The English-French actress has aged very gracefully.

Rossini!, La Cérémonie, Joan of Arc, Latter Days, Death in Love, and Birds of Paradise.

Now (thanks to the two threads) I just realized I never knew the difference between Jacqueline Bisset and Genevieve Bujold. Is there one?

by Anonymousreply 1July 3, 2022 9:36 PM

She broke my heart on Nip/Tuck. I couldn’t forgive her character for befriending the homeless guy on Christmas, only to murder him and sell his organs.

by Anonymousreply 2July 3, 2022 9:36 PM

I think she could use a much better hairstylist and color.

She hasn't aged very gracefully. She has aged badly. Maybe that's graceful to you.

by Anonymousreply 4July 3, 2022 9:48 PM

Yeah, she hasn't looked like the photo in at least 15 years. I don't think her face looks bad for a woman her age. At least she isn't a plastic surgery monstrosity. But she looks really unkempt and sloppy these days. She was gorgeous in her youth and very talented.

by Anonymousreply 5July 3, 2022 9:51 PM

Well perhaps she can throw herself in front of a bus, R5. Would that make you happy?

Seriously, you can't win.

by Anonymousreply 6July 3, 2022 10:01 PM

Nip/Tuck was where I first noticed she was allowing herself to age. And yet looked quite good.

by Anonymousreply 7July 3, 2022 10:02 PM

She looks great for 77 which is why it is so baffling that she won't use a comb and hair conditioner. Her hair has looked like shit for 10 years.

by Anonymousreply 8July 3, 2022 10:06 PM

R1, Jacqueline Bisset was an exquisite beauty in her day. Genevieve Bujold was a pouty, baby-faced gamine in the style of Leslie Caron. Cute if you're into that look.

I thought her acting improved a lot from the mid-80s, but maybe she just got some interesting roles.

She’s a very nice lady.

Love her. Always comes across well when interviewed. Seems pretty no nonsense. My favourite film of hers is “day for night” by Truffaut.

by Anonymousreply 13July 3, 2022 10:18 PM

Any dirt, R11? Or just anything at all, really.

She did a movie with Candice Bergen and there were rumors that they got it on off set. That's a Lesbian fantasy set up right there. My goodness.

She has always seemed alright to me. Had a nice long run as being just downright gorgeous. Never seemed to really harm anyone.

Hopefully she'll go in for a wash and set at some point since there's no shame in naturally aging and we don't know if she has arthritis in her hands or something. Hell, I'll wash and condition her hair even now.

by Anonymousreply 14July 3, 2022 10:21 PM

Great voice too…

by Anonymousreply 15July 3, 2022 10:23 PM

Didn't she have a long romance with a female acting coach? Some European.

by Anonymousreply 16July 4, 2022 2:52 AM

She had a long relationship with with the ballet dancer Alexander Godunov. He died from complications of alcoholism.

by Anonymousreply 17July 4, 2022 7:33 PM

sheesh he drank himself to death at age 45 after having the body and training of a world class dancer.

by Anonymousreply 18July 4, 2022 9:56 PM

He just didn't do godunov dealing with his problems

by Anonymousreply 19July 4, 2022 10:22 PM

OP- She's aged into Collen Dewhurst.

by Anonymousreply 20July 4, 2022 10:49 PM

Day for Night is such a good movie. I love the mess that her character is.

by Anonymousreply 21July 5, 2022 12:09 AM

R20 Better than Colleen Camp

by Anonymousreply 22July 5, 2022 5:19 PM

by Anonymousreply 23July 5, 2022 5:38 PM

I admire her for having the guts the age like a real human being. I did notice they attempted some of those de-aging filters on her during her season of Nip/Tuck, but they always looked like someone blurred the part of the frame with her face on it with a lot of vaseline and everything around her looked clear. I don't think they'd mastered that effect yet. Or maybe they couldn't afford it. They did something similar with Jessica Lange during a flashback in the first season of American Horror Story and it looked equally bizarre.

by Anonymousreply 26July 5, 2022 6:37 PM

She seems like a perfectly normal, albeit sophisticated, person.

Incredible natural beauty, but not a lot of personality onscreen until she aged out of the thinly written, “generic girlfriend” category. I guess she started showing more life in the early 80s with CLASS. And RICH & FAMOUS.

In this late in the 60s and 70s she was in a relationship with Michael Sarrazin

by Anonymousreply 28July 13, 2022 7:02 AM

Yes. A string of long term relationships. Never married - which is maybe smart for an actress with a demanding career and lots of travel.

She's lovely, but a woman. never a girl. Very beautiful and self possessed on the surface. Like Dixie Carter and Faye Dunaway - Bissett was never the ingenue. Funny that people don't take to her more. Her underplayed kind of acting and personal style doesn't stand out but doesn't date much either. I don't think she thought she was any good and her way to deal with that was to never go for big effects or too much emotion. Bissett was a great looking person - beautiful voice and body and movements.

Really fun interview with Joan Rivers. Joan of course tries to bait her as a wild slut or hedonistic sophisticated woman, but Jackie rises about all that and displays this lovely, kind of reticent, iconoclastic woman that everyone would like to know better. Charm.

Andrew McCarthy never mentioned Kim Cattrall's name when talking about "Mannequin" in his new autobiography, but he did talk about making his first move "Class" and having his co-star Miss Bissett inviting him to move to LA from NY and live with her and Godunov.

by Anonymousreply 33July 13, 2022 9:09 AM

Jacqueline had gorgeous thick wavy hair, her now thin crispy looking hair is, of course, due to aging. This doesn't always happen to all women, an aunt is 88, she still has a full head of thick hair, her hairline hasn't even receded. Of course, my aunt now keeps her hair short, but her hair is still thick and healthy.

by Anonymousreply 34July 13, 2022 9:33 AM

I just watched The Mephisto Waltz where she looks gorgeous.

by Anonymousreply 35August 12, 2022 12:57 AM

She's tremendous in Francois Ozon's fairly recent thriller DOUBLE LOVER.

by Anonymousreply 36August 12, 2022 1:08 AM

by Anonymousreply 41August 12, 2022 10:50 AM

Candice Bergen was terrible in that rich and famous movie. So annoying playing that southern belle. She made Jacqueline look like meryl Streep by comparison.

by Anonymousreply 42August 12, 2022 1:49 PM

She was meant to be annoying.

by Anonymousreply 43August 12, 2022 2:52 PM

Class act. Is there anyone like her in Hollywood anymore?

by Anonymousreply 44August 12, 2022 3:12 PM

She's due for a resurgence of popularity, like Diana Rigg had on Game of Thrones playing the badass Olenna Tyrell.

by Anonymousreply 45August 12, 2022 3:41 PM

R43 I don’t know why she’d accept such an annoying character. Aren’t actors supposed to bring some like-ability to their roles… I mean she played it like a cartoon person. I like her in other things but in this she completely put me off. Okay so she’s annoying but she didn’t have to play it full annoying.

by Anonymousreply 46August 12, 2022 7:48 PM

Yes her hair is fue to aging , probably trying to make it look fuller. Its either that or wear a wig.(gross) aging steals from all of us, our looks , our hearing our minds . I think she looks great for her age.

by Anonymousreply 47August 12, 2022 8:37 PM

Did she get Andrew McCarthy in his prime?

by Anonymousreply 48August 12, 2022 8:47 PM

R46 - you have to put the blame on George Cukor for her performance. He sometimes enjoyed having characters go over the top , especially in comic roles. See Rosalind Russell in The Women. Plus Candice seemed interested in playing more comedy after Starting Over.

by Anonymousreply 49August 13, 2022 12:22 AM

R49 But that part is kind of comedic - see Miriam Hopkins in Old Acquaintance.

by Anonymousreply 50August 13, 2022 2:45 AM

Pauline Kael wrote that Bergen tried too hard to be funny in the film. "Overdressed in the manner of a younger American version of Barbara Cartland, she heaves in sight like a ship in full sail. Bergen is a good sport rather than an actress, though she probably does as much for the role as anybody could. .. Cukor uses her almost as if she were a big goosey female impersonator."

One hot Saturday afternoon, I was having a pitcher of sangria with my husband (then boyfriend) at a restaurant off Park Ave South. The place had these huge windows and we were seated at the bar right near them.

We were just shooting the shit, people watching. After a bit, two women walked up arm in arm. They stopped in front of the restaurant to look at the menu, as if deciding whether or not to come in. They looked very nondescript but it dawned on me after a second that one of them was Jacqueline Bisset.

I kinda freaked out and so did my husband. We are both movie geeks and we were so excited. We just stared at her with these huge (probably dumb) smiles on our faces until she looked up and noticed us. Her and her friend started walking away but as she passed outside, she looked right at us and flashed the most BEAUTIFUL radiant smile. OMG - it totally made our day.

I know, lame story. But just the way she met our adoring gaze and smiled right back so sincerely - you could tell she was a super-cool, appreciative person.

I think Jackie Bisset had sexual tension with everybody.

by Anonymousreply 81August 14, 2022 8:05 PM

r80 it felt more like whatever tension there was, was coming from Steve Edwards the interviewer than from Bisset.

Edwards is a creep and was working at KTLA in Los Angeles until 2017 when he was "me too'd" out of his job. Not surprising to anyone that had watched him on Good Day LA, at least it wasn't to me.

A real beauty, but in such a natural way. Even to this day, you get the idea that, if someone were to mention her looks, she'd just shrug them off. She never made a big deal about them and appears to have aged into a well adjusted, beautiful, mature woman.

by Anonymousreply 89August 16, 2022 1:05 AM

Yes she is modest about her looks in the interviews.

by Anonymousreply 90August 17, 2022 11:06 AM

Just watched her arc on Nip/Tuck season 4. Unusual role for her playing a kidney harvester and she gets to slam a girl in the face, nearly have operation goo get on her that is in her car, and has her face bashed by thugs. But still looks beautiful.

by Anonymousreply 91August 31, 2022 2:41 AM

My introduction to her was opposite Rob Lowe and Andrew McCarthy - and Cliff Robertson - in Class.

by Anonymousreply 92August 31, 2022 3:32 AM

She still possesses a very sexy aura to me as a gay bloke. Same with Jane Seymour. I don't know how they do it, but I suspect it's much more than appearance. They both have a particular grace in how they move, and how they look at people when they're having a conversation. They both have beautiful smiles as well.
