The Harvard thing did seem pretentious years ago and now it seems inconsequential. I don't know how others feel, but post-Varsity Blues, all that an Ivy League degree means to me now, unless the person who holds it was poor when they were admitted, is that they had the money to buy their way into an Ivy-League university.

I'm not impressed by the credential, and Portman doesn't seem particularly brilliant to me in interviews. She seems a little bit superficial, actually, even for an actor.

I also think there's a mismatch between her stellar reputation as an actor and the work she has actually done. She does a lot of throwaway movies that don't require dynamic or particularly emotionally evocative performances.

I think she lucked out with The Professional. She may have great talent, but if she does, she hasn't found a great vehicle to demonstrate it.

She's genuinely beautiful and can be captivating in the right role. Her film choices are a bit hit or miss. She'll make one good film and then follow it up with a couple of duds. Lather, rinse, repeat. For as long as she's been around and for all the success she's experienced, it still feels like she hasn't fully reached her peak yet or found the right role to really take her to the next level. V for Vendetta, Black Swan, and Jackie came close, but I wouldn't be surprised if she had another great film role or two in her that hasn't happened yet.
