Marvel just unveiled a gay Spider-Man with a ‘fearlessly femme identity’

Web-Weaver is described as a “not-so-mild mannered fashion designer at Van Dyne [industries]”, the company owned by Janet Van Dyne aka The Wasp.

After he gets his spider powers, he “shows us a different kind of Spider-Slayer”, according to a description of the comic posted to Twitter.

Eisner-nominated writer and editor Steve Fox, who helped co-create the character, expressed his excitement on Twitter, saying: “Surprise: I had the huge gay honour of helping to co-create Web-Weaver, who’ll make his debut in Edge of the Spider-verse this September!”

Fox was extra vigilant in ensuring that Web-Weaver felt uniquely identifiable and not just a generalisation of the queer community, he explained.

“Something I realised immediately when conceiving Web-Weaver is that he can’t – and shouldn’t – represent ALL gay men,” Fox said. “No single character cant.

“𝑯𝒊𝒔 𝒇𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒍𝒚 𝒇𝒆𝒎𝒎𝒆 𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒊𝒔 𝒄𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝒕𝒐 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒉𝒆 is, but it’s not the STORY… Which you can experience for yourself in September!”

Capping off an eventful Pride month for fans, costume designer Krisanka shared the design for the character on June 23, explaining: “From the jump, I looked at a lot of McQueen and Mugler for this as inspiration.”

Web-Weaver’s costume features flared sleeves, a ruff, yellow detailing and lashes on the spider lenses.

This is like making black panther an angry black woman who works the cash register at the local Safeway.

Looks more like "deranged Adrian on a weekend bender" to me, but okay.

They forgot to include the folding fan to be employed while he’s throwing shade. And where are the high heels? A fabulous superhero wouldn’t be caught dead wearing flats.

That bitch should be wearing a webbed caftan.

Of course the gay superhero has to be a mincing queen who would be right at home answering the door for Roger DeBris in The Producers.

Let me guess- their superpowers are doxxing, dilating, breast mutilation, and guilting women into having sex with their shenis.

by Anonymousreply 8July 2, 2022 2:38 AM

At least he's not trans.

by Anonymousreply 9July 2, 2022 2:39 AM

Are we sure the sticky stuff he’s flinging around is webbing?

by Anonymousreply 12July 2, 2022 6:53 AM

What, he was bitten by a radioactive trans spider?

by Anonymousreply 13July 2, 2022 7:05 AM

You saw femme, I say pre-Trans.

by Anonymousreply 14July 2, 2022 8:55 AM

At least he has slim legs.

by Anonymousreply 15July 2, 2022 9:01 AM

Bump for original thread.

by Anonymousreply 16July 2, 2022 10:23 PM

Does he vomit purses as projectiles ???

This is so offensive and plays to every old stereotype of a gay man. Why not make it a femme straight character? but then again that would emasculate straight guys and we can't have that...

by Anonymousreply 17July 2, 2022 10:33 PM

So many gay characters of every variety but Marvel makes one feminine and DL turns into mindless bigots.

The fact that a fictional character can trigger many to condemn before even reading shows we need heroes like this.

There's only room for one gay superhero in my world.

R18, is a woke asshole

by Anonymousreply 20July 4, 2022 4:03 AM

I feel like those sleeves are going to get in the way of his webs. It would suck to be swinging from a web far above the city, and have your stupid sleeve block your web and go plummeting to the pavement as a result.

An ignominious end to the Spider-Gay.

[quote]So many gay characters of every variety

Yet no actual warriors / big brutish Thor types which is what everyone wants.
