One of the absolute worst casting choices in movie history. It needed a Jessica Lange or Kim Basinger or Michelle Pfeiffer. Instead, they got Midler.

Years ago i read a Vanity fair profile of this movie. When it was made, Midler had just finished "The Rose," and p[laying that part had taken an enormous strain on her mental health. She would have panic attacks on the ste of this one and start hysterically screaming, "I'M BECOMING THE ROSE! I'M BECOMING THE ROSE!" Eventually she had some sort of breakdown.
Adding to the problems were the fact that she and Ken Wahl couldn't stand each other.

Bette did alright with Jinxed in that she took scenes from the movie and spoofed them in her act. It was hilarious how much she hated that movie and Ken Wahl
