Sorry Nancy does it better.
George Clooney and Julia Roberts made a Nancy Meyers knockoff movie!

I haven't even seen the trailer, and I can already tell this movie is unnecessary and pointless. It's the kind of dull pap your mother-in-law rents from RedBox or watches on a long airplane ride.
But then again, most of the movies these two have made in the past few decades have fit that description.

I hate GC and JR, but this looks like a cute film (of its type) and they are good in it. Might see it if I'm bored.

another Lost City?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | June 29, 2022 3:13 PM |
My god, that looks horrendous and boring. These two are too much of celebrity entities now to do movies like this. In that trailer they have the chemistry of two CEOs hanging out at a week-long conference in Vegas.

An ancient carpet muncher and an elderly pole smoker.....how romantic!

Tina Fey once told Howard Stern that a lot of celebrities come to host "SNL" on the rumor/assumption that they're hilarious. Their entourage of buds and bros laughs constantly at their antics, and they all implore Lorne to bring this golden god onto the show. But few actually are very funny.
George Clooney is evidently one of those. She was pleased to meet him at first, because everyone said "Oh, you gotta meet George. He's HILARIOUS!"
She said he's not fucking funny in the least. He's just had decades of women and hangers-on doing fake laughter on his every word, and it's gone to his head. She actually wrote a storyline on "30 Rock" about living in this kind of bubble.

People are so stilted now and it carries over to acting, it makes things uncomfortable to watch. Too many homogeneous personalities now.

Wish it didn't look so forced but I'll stream it when available.

Awesome. First day, first show. Confirmed.

R13- the trailer says Only in Theaters.

It might be garbage, but I have to admit I miss these kinds of cheesy rom coms for adults. The last really great ones were Something's Gotta Give and It's Complicated. These days, I'll take anything that gives one less multiplex auditorium to a fucking superhero movie or cash grab reboot.

Nancy Meyers movies take place in and around the home, not in a tropical resort.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | June 29, 2022 6:01 PM |
I think there’s an audience for this type of movie. I have to point out that it’s crazy to see how much Clooney has aged.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | June 29, 2022 6:48 PM |
The trailer tells 99% of the movie. Does anyone care if the daughter actually marries the local?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | June 29, 2022 6:53 PM |
I never liked Julia as a romcom lead. She's just not very warm; I can't imagine with the male lead would want to be with her beyond sleeping with her maybe.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | June 29, 2022 8:55 PM |
This is just sad...Maybe with another actress, I don’t mind GC, but JR is a complete turnoff. Nobody told GC he isn’t funny? Well, then no one had the guts to tell JR she’s not pretty. Her ugly personality shines through now.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | June 29, 2022 10:01 PM |
The trailer shows the entire movie. Why the hell would they make this? It looks awful and completely predictable.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | June 29, 2022 10:19 PM |
They’re old and irrelevant now this isn’t 2002.

Julia's face looks so hard now. She really doesn't project warmth or humour.

I hate romcoms with the heat of a thousand suns.
Can't they make sophisticated, adult comedies anymore? Even Neil Simon put out better stuff than this shit.

R22 she was charming in Pretty Woman then she coasted from that role.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 3, 2022 3:31 PM |
So, I read a few posts and then watched the trailer.
1. George looks like shit.
2. At first glance Ghoulia doesn't look too bad until you realize that the long hair hides enough of her face so that you might be fooled into thinking she looks good. No. She looks harsh.
3. George is not funny.
4. Too bad for the 2 kids, they seemed OK.
5. The purpose of a rom-com is for the audience to want the pair to live happily ever after. Won't work in this case.
6. George looks like shit. Really.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 3, 2022 5:39 PM |
You're just jealous of Mr Clooney R32. he aain't a kid anymore and looks good for 61
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 3, 2022 7:49 PM |
R27 and R32 I agree, Julia looks terrible lately. She's gotten way too skinny (to prove she is still youthful) and her face looks gaunt and drawn. Also agree she has no warmth or humor, which makes her bitchiness towards GC such a turn off in this movie. Julia made the mistake, like so many celebrities, of believing her own hype. I remember reading an interview years ago and the writer said there was a framed embroidered saying on the wall of Julia's office that said: "Empress of the Universe". Conceited and self-obsessed much?
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 7, 2022 2:18 PM |
Kind of tone-deaf even as a comedy. I guess it is pure weird rich white people's problems and is like a cotton candy ball of fantasy of love and Hawaii.
But why? We have seen this in a hundred variations and could actually be based on the timing and delivery of a Letterkenny episode.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 7, 2022 3:00 PM |
As usual they show the whole movie in the trailer, unfortunately most people have such shitty taste they don't care.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 7, 2022 3:07 PM |
Lucas Bravo (from Emily in Paris) is hilarious as the goofball boyfriend of Roberts.
The actor who plays the fiancé is cute.
Spoiler:
In a scene, Robert's character receives a compliment. A guy tells her she reminds him of a beautiful horse. LOL.

Just saw this on Peacock. The daughter is a typical oblivious upper middle class girl. She can afford to just go off to Bali and marry a man who would be working poor, based on the size of their little seaweed farm, and not worry about her student loans from law school.
Her friend even stays at a five star hotel for a month. We all know the couple will end up together, but they never ask her the important question, "What's the rush?"
Lucas Bravo looks like a snack. I would have married him, surprises and all. Also, there was zero chemistry between the daughter and her parents. They had better chemistry with her best friend.
The movie is decent but the daughter and her stank attitude got on my nerves. Of course, her spoiled ass gets everything she wants.

Mostly dull, no real snap or spark or humor.
And to spend 75% of the movie yelling at each other in the least creative ways possible is not entertaining, either.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | December 27, 2022 3:53 AM |
Until watching this movie, I’ve never believed the rumor that Lucas Bravo is gay. But when he first shows up in the film, his hand gestures and the purse that falls out of his mouth when he talks had me mistaking his airline captain character for a male flight attendant. Lucas is a little fruity.

The actress who played their daughter was so good in Dopesick but didn't add much to this. This movie was predictable but it was something cute & light for me to have on in the background during the holidays.
