Gargantuan Party House Being Built Above Cielo Drive

Okay, so I love me some Sharon Tate. I admire who and what she was as a person. So sue me. Also, I have too much idle time.

Google searching Sharon's images brings up 10066 Cielo Drive images, too. In part, because the current residence is now on the market. Some images show a neighboring home being built, directly above at 10101 Angelo View Drive. At 21,000 sq. feet, Cielo is mega sized. Not to be outdone, the one above is 25,000 sq. ft., which was downsized two thirds, due to complaints . It HOVERS over the canyon hill like a "Close Encounters" spaceship. Nearly completed, the owner is developing it as a "party" house with an approximate annual attendance of 250,000 people. All of the potential, future partying may be why the Jeff Franklin Cielo home is being sold(the two structures are only 20 yards apart). Literally, one monstrosity atop another. And apparently, the guy building the new digs is a sleazy slum lord who preys on fixed income retirees. Nice.

It's funny and sad because the neighbor is basically mimicking what Jeff Franklin did to the Cielo property, only on a larger scale{hopefully, the neighbor won't be throwing Sharon Tate themed parties like Franklin did}.

Do you think these mansions are fitting or are they just eyesores? Are the owners high brow business men or are they low class, exploitative one percenters? Do the panoramic views justify the freakish amount of concrete needed to obtain them? Will the owners and partiers be buried alive in a quaky mudslide? Would that be a bad thing?

I thought they tore down the original house where the murders took place.

by Anonymousreply 3June 28, 2022 1:13 AM

Building a home to use as a business would seem to violate zoning restrictions.

by Anonymousreply 4June 28, 2022 1:13 AM

Who cares? It's LA.

by Anonymousreply 5June 28, 2022 1:15 AM

That location is near the sites of Sharon Tate murder house and Valentino's Falcon Lair. Hope their ghosts terrorize this tasteless pig.

The Big One is going to make for great TV - all these homes sliding down the hills, like a game of dominos, the first crushing the next, and so on and so forth...

by Anonymousreply 7June 28, 2022 1:21 AM

Aren't builders required to submit building plans in LA? I would think, particularly in those canyons, that the restrictions as to size of buildings would be examined closely. Particularly given the seemingly increasing fire concerns.

Not to mention, where would huge numbers of "party goers" park. And leaving such a place under the influence?

Ugly people doing ugly things.

by Anonymousreply 8June 28, 2022 1:24 AM

Is this near that Ever-Expanding house that someone's Nana bought on the 60's for like 5 dollars and had a prominent of the three stooges for a neighbor?

by Anonymousreply 9June 28, 2022 1:24 AM

Nana, the fucking mobile home retiree, grifter.

by Anonymousreply 10June 28, 2022 1:27 AM

R3 The Tate murder house was torn down years ago, only to be replaced with a hideous mega-mansion.

by Anonymousreply 11June 28, 2022 1:27 AM

The wealthy get away with EVERYTHING because WE LET THEM!

Blame yourselves!

by Anonymousreply 12June 28, 2022 1:28 AM

Reply 3, yes, in 1993 an investor bought and then tore down 10050 Cielo Drive. A gaudy, Godless mansion that overpowers the 3 acre lot was then erected. Now, just above the lot a neighbor is building an even larger, uglier mansion that he'll turn into a mega party house profit center. It's all about $$$

by Anonymousreply 13June 28, 2022 1:33 AM

Party at 10066 Cielo Drive house in very poor taste. Shame on Jeff Franklin. Assholes.

Since it's LA it'll be torn down in 20 years anyway.

by Anonymousreply 24June 28, 2022 2:48 AM

The present, trashy Cielo mansion has a parking structure on the lower level that enters to a full liquor bar. Rich, selfish, drunk drivers.

by Anonymousreply 25June 28, 2022 2:55 AM

R23, it's just a little over-the-top, isn't it?

by Anonymousreply 26June 28, 2022 4:13 AM

'Andalusian style' my ass. The original Melcher/Tate house had the misfortune to sit on a huge 3 acre view lot -- irresistible catnip to a trash LA 'mansion' builder...

by Anonymousreply 27June 28, 2022 4:21 AM

I'm confused by the Cielo style . Is it Moroccan or Asian? It doesn't jive for me. It could be smaller, as well. Plus I think it was mediterranean when the Full House-Not Full Deck guy bought it. Mishmash, hodgepodge. Even today, I'd sleep with one eye open and a loaded gun nearby in that place. I would be mentally haunted everyday there. If you weren't bothered, you'd be soulless.

by Anonymousreply 28June 28, 2022 4:27 AM

They better call Progressive. Slip, sliding away.

by Anonymousreply 29June 28, 2022 4:28 AM

R28 The owner is a creepy Hollywood TV producer: soulless is pretty much a given.

by Anonymousreply 30June 28, 2022 4:29 AM

That seems really trashy and awful. Like a harbinger if the apocalypse. What kind of sad loser needs to party on such a grand scale?

by Anonymousreply 31June 28, 2022 4:36 AM

Aren’t the other people in the area rich? I’m surprised there’s not more they can do about it.

by Anonymousreply 32June 28, 2022 4:40 AM

Gulf Arab "royalty", Persians, and all the East, and West Asians with money to burn will love that party place. That location will be the host to all sorts of ODs, rapes, and covered up scandals.

by Anonymousreply 36June 28, 2022 4:59 AM

I see Franklin floating in his meandering, haunted, blood money pool. Suddenly he feels a rain drop. Rain on a sunny day? No, it's just a neighbor's party customer, upchucking from above. And we thought bird shit was bad.

by Anonymousreply 37June 28, 2022 5:06 AM

I'm sure that many of the paying partiers will be looky lous. The real view is not the city. It's the infamous Cielo property.

by Anonymousreply 38June 28, 2022 5:09 AM

R31 it could be a modern-day version of Poe's the masque of the Red Death

by Anonymousreply 39June 28, 2022 5:21 AM

Knowledgeable Hollywood Lesbyterian sources informed us that the victims had been buying and doing drugs and having sex with the Manson hippies. It is believed the murders were a drug hit for non-payment of bills

by Anonymousreply 40June 28, 2022 5:32 AM

It seems like no matter what city you're talking about (and it's moving to the small towns and even the trailer parks now - at least in the US and Canada), capitalism has so many more ways to render the basic necessities of life unreachable to anyone but the rich than Marx himself could have imagined. Housing itself, as a concept and not just a market, is screwed up in ways unique to each location. I'm almost impressed, in a totally depressing way. It's everythingisshitception.

by Anonymousreply 41June 28, 2022 5:37 AM

What a hideous home.

Imagine having so much money to erect any home you want, and this is what you come up with.

It’s so true. Money buys you almost anything but it cannot buy you good judgement or good taste.

by Anonymousreply 42June 28, 2022 5:38 AM

Franklin's rain gutters will jamb from all the spent condoms and iv needles.

by Anonymousreply 43June 28, 2022 5:44 AM

by Anonymousreply 45June 28, 2022 6:16 AM

The views and the wraparound pool are incredible.

by Anonymousreply 46June 28, 2022 6:22 AM

I have a fear of pools and heights. I would like to throw a Baby Ruth in that pool, though. Just for shits and giggles.

by Anonymousreply 47June 28, 2022 6:25 AM

Just when you thought things couldn't get douchier, Josh Altman comes along to scream:

Multiple fish tanks!

That fish I have a crush on!

Shark tank!

Richard Landry, starchitect!

Waterfalls everywhere!

Lazy river!

Serious pizza oven!

Koi pond! With fishes!

Photo booth!

Waterslide!

Flaming hot-tub grotto!

And at 3:13, just for R40 and R47, "stools in the pool; if you want to eat."

by Anonymousreply 50June 28, 2022 9:37 AM

What an abomination: of architecture, of zoning, of neighborliness, of taste...

The big pile that is there now is ghastly, but compared to this "party house" scheme, it somehow seems almost refined.

How is this even vaguely considered feasible? Legal?

by Anonymousreply 51June 28, 2022 9:51 AM

Creep must know the legal loopholes and whose palms to grease. Still, you'd think the surrounding neighbors would have some power. There are no poor people living in Beverly Hills.

by Anonymousreply 52June 29, 2022 3:14 AM

It's not Beverly Hills, different building codes.

by Anonymousreply 53June 29, 2022 3:18 AM

[quote] Money buys you almost anything but it cannot buy you good judgement or good taste.

LA has a lot of new money from all over the world, and sadly, it's not a city that appreciates its historical architecture very much. Buildings with actual character are bulldozed to make way for new eyesores. It's not a quality I like about this city.

He fucks two fish at the same time!

by Anonymousreply 60June 29, 2022 6:59 AM

He's the sleazy property owner. He is hot. If you can get around the sleaze. I'll pass unless he signs over his money first. He a major slum lord.

by Anonymousreply 61June 29, 2022 7:46 AM

He probably has a trap door for all his unsuspecting lays.

by Anonymousreply 62June 29, 2022 7:48 AM

I worked on that house for a *very* short time, years ago. Got out of the situation as quickly as I could. It really is a monstrosity now that you can see it from below taking form. As is Bono’s house that’s also going up as another poster mentioned. Interestingly John Lautners Sheats Goldstein house (one of his best) is right next door on Angelo view drive. And you can’t see it at all from below.

by Anonymousreply 63June 29, 2022 8:41 AM

[quote]Nearly completed, the owner is developing it as a "party" house with an approximate annual attendance of 250,000 people.

How can this be?!?! Daily parties with 700 attendees? How much of that land is going to be turned into a parking lot. Are those canyon roads able to accommodate the traffic? It sounds poorly thought through.

by Anonymousreply 64June 29, 2022 2:13 PM

The decking alone, holds 500 people.

by Anonymousreply 65June 29, 2022 10:22 PM

What exactly is a party house. Do companies rent the house for employee parties or what?

by Anonymousreply 66July 1, 2022 3:01 AM

Good way to spread Monkey Pox.

by Anonymousreply 67July 1, 2022 3:04 AM

I take Benedict Canyon to Sherman Oaks every day after work. Great...this was the only canyon not a full parking lot at rush hour.

by Anonymousreply 68July 1, 2022 3:53 AM

They won't be having parties that early. No worries.

by Anonymousreply 69July 1, 2022 5:10 AM

I honestly don't see how these party houses can turn a profit. They cost many tens of million dollars to make, and then they're rented piecemeal, probably not every night or weekend, and the owner has to bear the costs of cleaning up after all these parties and whatever legal liabilities happen on the property.

So what's the real story with these places - drug distribution or sales? Money laundering? Human trafficking?

by Anonymousreply 70July 1, 2022 6:23 AM

I'm 56 and still naive. Wow! You're probably right. Maybe that's why the guy got past the neighbors complaints. Dirty.

For neighbors, the consequences are real and serious. An “unruly gathering” can result in:

increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic (including Uber and Lyft pickups and deliveries); parking congestion (on public and private property); noise from guests, vehicles, music, fireworks, etc.; public intoxication; trespassing (including unwanted visits from disoriented guests); sanitation problems (trash, bottles and cans, drug paraphernalia, human waste, etc.); and, in some reported cases, indecent exposure.

It's not a party for the poor neighbors.
