Gargantuan Party House Being Built Above Cielo Drive
Okay, so I love me some Sharon Tate. I admire who and what she was as a person. So sue me. Also, I have too much idle time.
Google searching Sharon's images brings up 10066 Cielo Drive images, too. In part, because the current residence is now on the market. Some images show a neighboring home being built, directly above at 10101 Angelo View Drive. At 21,000 sq. feet, Cielo is mega sized. Not to be outdone, the one above is 25,000 sq. ft., which was downsized two thirds, due to complaints . It HOVERS over the canyon hill like a "Close Encounters" spaceship. Nearly completed, the owner is developing it as a "party" house with an approximate annual attendance of 250,000 people. All of the potential, future partying may be why the Jeff Franklin Cielo home is being sold(the two structures are only 20 yards apart). Literally, one monstrosity atop another. And apparently, the guy building the new digs is a sleazy slum lord who preys on fixed income retirees. Nice.
It's funny and sad because the neighbor is basically mimicking what Jeff Franklin did to the Cielo property, only on a larger scale{hopefully, the neighbor won't be throwing Sharon Tate themed parties like Franklin did}.
Do you think these mansions are fitting or are they just eyesores? Are the owners high brow business men or are they low class, exploitative one percenters? Do the panoramic views justify the freakish amount of concrete needed to obtain them? Will the owners and partiers be buried alive in a quaky mudslide? Would that be a bad thing?

Aren't builders required to submit building plans in LA? I would think, particularly in those canyons, that the restrictions as to size of buildings would be examined closely. Particularly given the seemingly increasing fire concerns.
Not to mention, where would huge numbers of "party goers" park. And leaving such a place under the influence?
Ugly people doing ugly things.

Reply 3, yes, in 1993 an investor bought and then tore down 10050 Cielo Drive. A gaudy, Godless mansion that overpowers the 3 acre lot was then erected. Now, just above the lot a neighbor is building an even larger, uglier mansion that he'll turn into a mega party house profit center. It's all about $$$

I'm confused by the Cielo style . Is it Moroccan or Asian? It doesn't jive for me. It could be smaller, as well. Plus I think it was mediterranean when the Full House-Not Full Deck guy bought it. Mishmash, hodgepodge. Even today, I'd sleep with one eye open and a loaded gun nearby in that place. I would be mentally haunted everyday there. If you weren't bothered, you'd be soulless.

It seems like no matter what city you're talking about (and it's moving to the small towns and even the trailer parks now - at least in the US and Canada), capitalism has so many more ways to render the basic necessities of life unreachable to anyone but the rich than Marx himself could have imagined. Housing itself, as a concept and not just a market, is screwed up in ways unique to each location. I'm almost impressed, in a totally depressing way. It's everythingisshitception.

LA has a lot of new money from all over the world, and sadly, it's not a city that appreciates its historical architecture very much. Buildings with actual character are bulldozed to make way for new eyesores. It's not a quality I like about this city.

I worked on that house for a *very* short time, years ago. Got out of the situation as quickly as I could. It really is a monstrosity now that you can see it from below taking form. As is Bono’s house that’s also going up as another poster mentioned. Interestingly John Lautners Sheats Goldstein house (one of his best) is right next door on Angelo view drive. And you can’t see it at all from below.

I honestly don't see how these party houses can turn a profit. They cost many tens of million dollars to make, and then they're rented piecemeal, probably not every night or weekend, and the owner has to bear the costs of cleaning up after all these parties and whatever legal liabilities happen on the property.
So what's the real story with these places - drug distribution or sales? Money laundering? Human trafficking?

For neighbors, the consequences are real and serious. An “unruly gathering” can result in:
increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic (including Uber and Lyft pickups and deliveries); parking congestion (on public and private property); noise from guests, vehicles, music, fireworks, etc.; public intoxication; trespassing (including unwanted visits from disoriented guests); sanitation problems (trash, bottles and cans, drug paraphernalia, human waste, etc.); and, in some reported cases, indecent exposure.
It's not a party for the poor neighbors.
