The Great American Recipe on PBS
Who's caught the first few episodes?
The idea of celebrating American home cooks and cuisine is delightful. The flawed attempt to mimic "The Great British Bake-off" is less so.
Typically American, everyone smiles, smiles, smiles til their gums bleed. The vibe is so overly-chipper, it's at odds with the trainwreck that is America right now. The no-name hosts come off as extraordinarily condescending. Hostess Alejandra Ramos pushes the cheer so hard the speakers blow out. The hugs and tears at when someone is "sent back to their home kitchen" feel awkwardly forced.
But the contestants' recipes are awesome and roundly look delish. Plus, it's a good cross section of America. If only they would dispense with the generic competition format and just talk about food.

Are you stupid? This is reality TV not exactly quality viewing.

LOL, R1. Then it should be on Bravo, not PBS.

I'm happy to see a cooking show that copies the The Great British Baking show and not the super charged nasty USA versions.
I've only seen the first episode, it is missing the wit and candor of the British show. While the uk show wasn't hells kitchen, the judges were candid if a recipe didn't work. And I enjoyed the banter by the two comedians who acted as presenters and cheer support. The US show just went with the saccharine. I'm still going to watch. The recipes were great and I like format.

I was really looking forward to this show, but it's pretty boring. There are no cute guys and Demi Lovato is a terrible host.
