When housing costs, tuition costs, cost-of-living in general, and inflation rises and wages stagnate, people have less money. Also, "free trade" incentivized all of the capitalists to move nearly all of the manufacturing sector to less 'developed' nations and many of the service jobs. Basically any job that they could outsource to nations without environmental and labor protections. Also, "at-will" employment laws decimated job security.

I went to a 'quarters' game in college and ended up passing out in my bed and waking up to vomit all over the top bed spread.
