How can Democrats who just yesterday proposed regs to completely gut the meaning of Title IX and its protection of WOMEN in sports be respected as a protector of women's rights?
When clowns are given power this is what you get? More clowns just with a different political bent.
Now the ACLU and Planned Parenthood - both of whom have been throwing women under the bus and undermining our respect and power for years - will pretend they support women but in reality will just be using this and us to raise money. Will they even use the word WOMAN?

The Republican plan was not conceived of 50 years ago. It happened piecemeal, over the years, beginning with the success of Nixon pandering to racists and breaking quite a few laws to win the election, and a few after he won, as well. They got away with it relatively unscathed, so they expanded to using dim, feckless figureheads as a distraction while committing their crimes, and getting away with it on the rare occasion they were caught (see: Iran-Contra; Weapons of Mass Destruction).
The problem has always been that our system does not have the capability of stopping an entire political party's long-term criminal undertakings. The GOP's crimes and malfeasances are so vast that the system can't handle it, and no one has ever really tried that hard. When we did once manage to get the criminal Nixon out of the White House, people got fed up and checked out of politics altogether, tired of the corruption, but in doing so, they made it even easier for the corruption to flourish.
It's an enormous, systemic problem, and one that I don't think can be fixed. I think all the stories we learned in History about corruption back in the 1800s just gave us a false sense of "that was then, this is now," when the truth is that it's just as bad now as it was during, say, Teapot Dome.

It’s important to note that abortion has not been outlawed. It’s also important to note that had states like New York and women's clinics who constantly wanted to push the envelope not pushed for and made laws allowing elective abortions up to or beyond 8 months, which is ghoulish under any reasoning, perhaps this wouldn’t have been the outcome. Once again, wild eyed progressives have caused more discourse and heartache and in this case, the loss of rights for many in several states.

The sophistication of the voting mind here is totally lacking. Even Hillary warned you that the extremism being embraced by the party is killing us.
The rethugs are beyond saving. But the Dems are not and they are worth saving. But to save them it's going to take a visit to the woodshed. The Dems are not going to abandon the extreme nonsense they've been tolerating and enabling and promoting unless they are forced to. Biden and his fellow fools have become nothing but craven politicians afraid to speak truth. But maybe that craven trait will be useful. I am ready for more awful rethug things if it means bringing back the real Democratic party for the future. Just like the gay community needs to take back its movement and maybe even its organizations. it needs to use some tough love and that means no mercy for those who stole these things and helped others steal them.
Do you really think they would have dared to overturn Roe if there was real respect for and power within the women's movement - the real woman's movement? Hell if the Democrats had more support they probably wouldn't have dared but we know why the Dems have lost support. Hillary knows.

People act like the judiciary makes laws. It does not. It interprets.
The problem with Democrats is that they constantly punt to the judiciary rather than make the groundwork for legislative rights which is the CORRECT decision.
If Democrats worked on the state level, we would not have states that ban abortion on the books. If Democrats worked on the state level, we would not have same-sex marriage bans on the books.
How many states still have statutes or constitutional amendments that ban same-sex marriage POST Obergefell? Too fucking many. "The SC gave us our rights! No worries!" The work doesn't FUCKING STOP THERE. This needs to be done LEGISLATIVELY because there are no constitutional rights to abortion, gay marriage, and more. They are interpretations.

It's nothing to do with trans people. Trans spokespeople are annoyingly deaf to the Zeitgeist, but it's such a tiny issue in the context of the concerns of state as a whole that it's plainly just a red herring thrown against progressives by the conservative media.
The reason Republicans are getting elected across the country is that there is a war going on between the educated and the uneducated, the clever and the stupid, scientific evidence and "gut feeling" (under which heading belong all religions). That is the real groundswell of this.
The conservative media don't want to say on behalf of their viewers, "We stupid people don't trust anyone who claims to know more than us", so they target the radical Left, who represent two-thirds of bugger-all. Look how Bernie did in the primaries. Sure, some of his supporters failed to vote for Hillary, but so did a whole lot more people who didn't support Trump but were too lazy to get to a polling booth. Silly. They won't overturn civil rights. Why would they have to? We will be LIVING IN A CHRISTOFASCIST state. If they control the media, the courts, the politicians, and make just the right laws to help them, they won.
So, religious freedom will stop gay pride, talking about gay stuff (already there), gay rights, the portrayal of gays in media, voting rights segregation by what is going on RIGHT NOW, such as closing voting locations, redistricting, and all manner of making voting difficult, and enabling the militarized police they don't need to get their hands dirty with trying to do a huge civil rights overturning.
They are winning. They know it. Look for "the LGBTQIA" hits and as all political discussion this fall, along with the economy. WE will be the enemy. WE are not the only ones left, we are just the next easy "other" for picking off and winning the next election cycle.

"Thomas constantly laments the lost of "traditional values." Myth or not, there's only one institution that's responsible for enforcing values, ethics, and it's religious institutions. All the 6 Supreme Court Justices that voted to overturn Roe vs. Wade were Catholic. Conservatives have relied on Reactionary Catholicism as the foundation of their legal movement, since despite their nonsensical talking point, because Protestantism, lacks the intellectual foundation in law to justify a theocracy.
So that's what we're seeing, increasingly a desire to force the Country's culture and institutions to be more religious in nature, and for people to assume roles and customs less rooted in rationality or self-interest, but on dogma. So yeah, once again: theocracy."

Quite aside from their feelings about the embryo, women don't LIKE having abortions, which are invasive, painful operations requiring anaesthetic and post-facto antibiotics. Of course, when abortions are illegal they often don't get the anaesthetic or the antibiotics.
But men like you have managed to persuade yourselves women are clamoring to abort instead of taking a pill or using the female equivalent of a condom. Talk about fantasists.

You can do a search for "Obergefell" in the opinion that OP posted. It's mentioned in the text and footnotes about 28 times.
Kavanagh, in a concurring opinion, says:
[quote] First is the question of how this decision will affect other precedents involving issues such as contraception and marriage—in particular, the decisions in Griswold v. Connecticut; Loving v. Virginia; and Obergefell v. Hodges.
[quote] I emphasize what the Court today states: Overruling Roe does not mean the overruling of those precedents, and does not threaten or cast doubt on those precedents.
Then this from the main opinion (this is NOT from the concurring opinion written by Justice Thomas):
[quote] And to ensure that our decision is not misunderstood or mischaracterized, we emphasize that our decision concerns the constitutional right to abortion and no other right. Nothing in this opinion should be understood to cast doubt on precedents that do not concern abortion.
Yeah, this all sounds good, but I believe that they could figure out a way to overrule gay marriage and the right to contraception without ever relying this this latest anti-Roe opinion. I trust what Clarence is saying about reexamining other cases more than I trust the other conservative who are trying to calm the masses with rhetoric and no promises.

R118 actually the Constitution is pretty much silent as to the role and power of the Supreme Court. The idea that the court could and should be this powerful with the ability to strike down laws as unconstitutional and be the final arbiter of what the Constitution does and doesn’t mean is something the court invented for itself in Marbury v Madison during the Jefferson Administration. And it wasn’t a legal move, but a political one. The Jeffersonians had taken control of the Congress and White House but the Federalists still controlled the courts, so the Federalists on the Supreme Court just decided to give themselves the power to veto anything that the Jeffersonians did. Congress could tell the Supreme Court to go fuck itself and strip them of this power if they wanted to; it’s not in the Constitution.

Someone mentioned poor women unable to travel out of state where abortions are illegal. California is drafting legislation to help these women by paying travel expensives and support. It's hardly a solution but it's necessary though not sufficient. From the SF Chronicle:
After the leak of the draft opinion, Gov. Gavin Newsom and Democratic leaders in the Legislature announced plans to add a constitutional amendment enshrining a right to abortion. The state Senate approved the amendment this week, and it now heads to the state Assembly, where it will likely also pass (Democrats have large majorities in both chambers). Once it clears the Assembly, it will appear on the November general election as a ballot measure.
Beyond serving as a way to juice turnout among Democratic voters, the amendment has two practical purposes: 1. A failsafe in case future leaders of California decide to restrict abortion access (it's highly unlikely Republicans win enough power at the state level to do that in a deep-blue state). 2. A way to stop conservative California localities from implementing anti-abortion policy (municipal abortion bans are on the rise across the country).
In addition to the constitutional amendment, Newsom has also proposed $125 million in new funds for a "Reproductive Health Package" that would, according to the governor's office, "maintain and improve availability of safe and accessible reproductive health care services and prepare for a potential influx of people from other states seeking reproductive health care and abortion services."
Furthermore, the California Future of Abortion Council has thrown its support behind 13 different bills in the Legislature. Among the most publicized bills are a California abortion "travel fund" that would aid patients in Republican-led states where the procedure could soon be banned, as well as a separate bill that would provide enhanced legal protections for those who end a pregnancy early.

Here's the breakdown, from the SCOTUS opinion at OP:
[quote] ALITO , J., delivered the opinion of the Court, in which THOMAS , GORSUCH, KAVANAUGH, and BARRETT, JJ., joined. THOMAS , J., and KAVANAUGH, J., filed concurring opinions. ROBERTS , C. J., filed an opinion concurring in the judgment. BREYER, SOTOMAYOR, and KAGAN, JJ., filed a dissenting opinion
So, it's 6-3. Thomas and Kavanaugh wrote concurring opinions as well as being part of the majority.

Clarence is without doubt the most considerate Justice on our court. He's the first one to open a door for a lady or a disabled person (same difference), and the first one to wish you a happy birthday or remember an anniversary. And he'll be the first one to send a "Sorry You're In Prison" card to you after he votes to recriminalize homosexual sodomy. He's just that considerate.

R199, when your father or grandfather is raping you I question if you have access to or even if you’re of age to take birth control
Regardless, birth control is generally taken by women who anticipate being sexually active. Many people who are raped are either not of age or aren’t sexually active.

So the court has set the precedent that any of its rulings can be overruled by a court of a different political persuasion.
That will save time when the pendulum swings to the left. Just imagine the liberal policies which can be rammed through (affirmed). Abortion, gun control, election law, gerrymandering, that weird shit about a corporation being a person: this can all be addressed fairly quickly by a left-leaning court just saying “nuh-uh, those drunks, bozos, god-botherers and rapists got it wrong.”

I cut the grass in my yard yesterday. It was hot and I was a typical sweaty mess as usual. Just as I began on the one side of the yard, I saw via my mind's eye myself picking up a baby bird. I'm going up and down the yard, and by the time I get to the largest of my small trees on the other side, I spot a tiny fledgling laying on the grass about 1.5 feet from the trunk. I ran the mower right up to it which is when I saw it. At first I thought it was dead until it opened it's mouth wide for feeding. If I'd have run my hand over my face to wipe away the sweat at that moment, then it'd have been a goner. I knew the nest was there, but I hadn't bothered to see exactly where until that point. I didn't even have to think. I grabbed a hand spade, scooped it up, and used a step stool to put it back in the nest with it's mate. I took a lot of shit from the parents- Robins - but I felt a great good satisfaction in having done it. Look at me! I'm a bonafide life saver!
Babies, baby. They're BABIES.

Yes, a federal law would, indeed, stop this Court. An explicit law would trump (sorry) the SCOTUS decision.
by Anonymous | reply 309 | June 25, 2022 12:17 AM |
I think what they’re suggesting R309 is that the Court would simply strike down any such law as an unconstitutional exercise of congressional power, the way that the 5 conservatives were prepared to do with the ACA before Roberts switched his vote at the last minute. I agree we should definitely pass such laws, but I share the concern that these right wing nuts on the Court pine for a pre-1930s era where SCOTUS told the Congress that they couldn’t do much of anything that the Constitution didn’t explicitly give Congress the power to do.
by Anonymous | reply 310 | June 25, 2022 12:22 AM |

A federal law codifying abortion as a right nationwide will not stand when Scotus eventually says that the right to life in the womb is a fundamental right. Don’t you realize that conservatives have been claiming that abortion violates the Constitution’s guarantee of life for decades? They continue to explicitly work toward having SCOTUS adopt that view and some justices have indicated they are prone to agree

R313 did you somehow miss the part of my post where I said “I agree we should definitely pass such laws”? But we’re going to have to do something about the Court if we want to restore the rights it has eliminated and safeguard the rights it is coming after in future years. Expand it. Strip it if its power of ultimate judicial review. Something. Otherwise they will likely just strike down any legislative fixes passed by a Democratic Congress.

Sure, but R354 asked, "Why are so many women dumbasses that vote against their own interests?" They didn't ask why each individual woman holds a particular stance.
Educational level and religiosity are the strongest demographic predictors of anti-abortion stance (and homophobia, incidentally). I can't explain each individual's values. R410 Since "literally" the issue is using an unprecedented religious standard to take away rights and to erode the Constitutional divisions between Church and State. (Already last week the Court ruled that public governments will fund private, religious schools.) The foundational principles that Roe was built on are erased. Birth control, same sex relations, private relations among heterosexuals, same sex marriage are in the cross hairs. Paranoia? Pay attention, this is what was specified in Thomas' concurrence.
This is just a silly social media platform, and trolls come and people try to talk smack to each other (some focused, intentional efforts to disrupt, some just cranky, some angry, some playing the clown). But it's time to get off social media and to work to win the next cycle of elections, and the next cycle, and figure out how to preserve a Constitutional Republic.
Fight like hell. it's serious.

by Anonymous | reply 430 | June 26, 2022 6:36 PM |
If we want to finally get real about fighting back, focus on which states fail to put money into the federal kitty and SQUEEZE them for more. Expose it all, pull their pants down. All blue state governments need to literally cancel transfers of tax dollars to the Fed, NOW. Revolt.
Women not fucking men won’t work because only the women/men who already care will participate. Money and power is what this is, and if we can’t answer, it will continue to escalate. What if Newsom halted all tax revenue transfers to the Fed? Is that even possible or no? Not to secede to the union, it is a moral objection and expansion of free speech to refuse to pay the government. All consumers should do the same. Do NOT file your taxes next year — if enough of us refuse to file income taxes, they are fuuuuuuucked though they will punish the most vulnerable. We have to create private safety nets for legal aide for the poor who participate. Go beyond boycotting red states, go right over them and hit the fucking Fed.
Also, maybe it’s time for criminal charges Merrick? Take your sweet-ass time mother fucker. Every one of them must be criminally charged, especially on SCOTUS, and of course Congress and of course Trump.
Shut this entire country down. Dox the fuck out of them. Spread protesters across major highways leading to all government buildings making access almost impossible. Make access from their homes impossible. TORTURE their children, if they think we were bad before, they’ve seen nothing yet.
Boycotts do work, but the problem now is fatigue. And that is by design. Finally, I want to see as many women (and men!) arrested for violating abortion policies as possible. If you don’t need an abortion, act like you do and purposely get yourself thrown in jail. Overwhelm the system.

Also, 4th of July is our BIGGEST opportunity to make impact. Do we go to festivals in our locality? Do we protest our fellow citizens who are good but aren’t activists (like young families)? I think what we should do is organize a separate celebration WITH many wonderful, beautiful pieces like great live music, fireworks, food, drinks, and we call it something about Hope. Hope Fest? Celebration of Hope? Hope for All? Or how about just ALL?
We need to pull as many as possible away from normal 4th if July plans and disrupt it in a way that is highly aggressive but still peaceful and respectful. Where is the women’s March on all this, is it formally gearing up or did it this weekend? I saw protestor shots but didn’t pay attention.

The problem with the Marist poll is that it was taken Friday and Saturday, when emotions were at their highest. The later polls, after a cool down, will be more indicative. Plus, in May it was at the high end of polls showing a Democratic lead. Most other polls that month had the Republicans ahead or the Democrats with a smaller lead, suggesting a built-in lean to Democrats currently with Marist.

That was traumatic to watch, R444. I didn't make it past the 2nd trimester abortion procedure. Horrific. This needs to be shared. People really don't know what this abortion is.
The irony is that there are probably a lot of women who are animal rights activists and vegans who have had abortions. These people hold very strong beliefs about protecting animals from harm, yet they don't have any qualms about a procedure that tears a 7" developing human apart limb from limb. A fully formed baby--- with arms, legs, ten fingers and toes, heart, lungs, brain and nervous system plus a fully formed skeleton.
by Anonymous | reply 451 | June 29, 2022 11:38 PM |
I agree R451 that the video should be seen en masse. You should watch the segment detailing abortion procedure during the final trimester. A syringe filled with some lethal substance is injected through the "mother's" abdomen, into the uterus, and then directly into the baby itself. The drug stops the heart, and the child is killed. The pregnant woman will then go into labor and deliver the dead baby. Many of these babies would survive is birthed prematurely.

While you're at it, show a video of women imprisoned for miscarrying while law enforcement decides whether they were responsible for the miscarriage. Show them in prison pondering both the loss of their baby and the possibility of a long prison sentence. Show all the consequences of outlawing abortion.

R459, that would YOUR opposing burden. There is absolutely no disputing the fact that abortion is used by many women as a form of birth control. Reference Sherri Shepherd, for example. My stance was simply to present the realities of abortion as pertains to the baby. I argue in favor of the living child. I never once posted anything which condemned a woman for aborting as a necessary medical emergency to preserve her own life.

Nonsense, R460, you explicitly tell us to "watch the segment detailing abortion procedure during the final trimester"—when, under Roe v. Wade, there's there's no question of abortion except to ensure the life of the mother or her ability to bear children in the future. You're not arguing "in favor of the living child," you're arguing against permitting a woman to make a choice about bearing a child even when her own life is in danger. As for the earlier stages, your use of language like "baby" and "a form of birth control" is tendentious: an embryo is not a baby, and abortion because of the failure of birth control—let alone rape—isn't itself birth control.

Brothers and sisters, let's consult the Lord's word. Open your bibles to the book of Numbers. Numbers 5:
11 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 12 “Speak to the people of Israel, If any man’s wife goes astray and breaks faith with him, 13 if a man rlies with her sexually, and it is hidden from the eyes of her husband, and she is undetected though she has defiled herself, and there is no witness against her, ssince she was not taken in the act, 14 and if the spirit of jealousy comes over him and he is jealous of his wife who has defiled herself, or if the spirit of jealousy comes over him and he is jealous of his wife, though she has not defiled herself, 15 then the man shall bring his wife to the priest and bring the offering required of her, a tenth of an ephah3 of barley flour. tHe shall pour no oil on it and put no frankincense on it, for it is a grain offering of jealousy, a grain offering of remembrance, ubringing iniquity to remembrance.
16 “And the priest shall bring her near and set her before the Lord. 17 And the priest shall take holy water in an earthenware vessel and take some of the dust that is on the floor of the tabernacle and put it into the water. 18 And the priest shall set the woman before the Lord and vunbind the hair of the woman’s head and place in her hands the grain offering of remembrance, which is the grain offering of jealousy. And in his hand the priest shall have the water of bitterness that brings the curse. 19 Then the priest shall make her take an oath, saying, ‘If no man has lain with you, and if you have not turned aside to uncleanness while you were under your husband’s authority, be free from this water of bitterness that brings the curse. 20 But if you have gone astray, though you are under your husband’s authority, and if you have defiled yourself, and some man other than your husband has lain with you, 21 then’ (let the priest make the woman take the oath of the curse, and say to the woman) w‘the Lord make you a curse and an oath among your people, when the Lord makes your thigh fall away and your body swell. 22 May this water that brings the curse xpass into your bowels and make your womb swell and your thigh fall away.’ And the woman shall say, y‘Amen, Amen.’
23 “Then the priest shall write these curses in a book and wash them off into the water of bitterness. 24 And he shall make the woman drink the water of bitterness that brings the curse, and the water that brings the curse shall enter into her and cause bitter pain. 25 And the priest shall take the grain offering of jealousy out of the woman’s hand zand shall wave the grain offering before the Lord and bring it to the altar. 26 And the priest ashall take a handful of the grain offering, as its memorial portion, and burn it on the altar, and afterward shall make the woman drink the water. 27 And when he has made her drink the water, then, if she has defiled herself and has broken faith with her husband, the water that brings the curse shall enter into her and cause bitter pain, and her womb shall swell, and her thigh shall fall away, and the woman bshall become a curse among her people. 28 But if the woman has not defiled herself and is clean, then she shall be free and shall conceive children.
29 “This is the law in cases of jealousy, when a wife, cthough under her husband’s authority, goes astray and defiles herself, 30 or when the spirit of jealousy comes over a man and he is jealous of his wife. Then he shall set the woman before the Lord, and the priest shall carry out for her all this law. 31 The man shall be free from iniquity, but the woman dshall bear her iniquity.”

R466, where did I say I hadn't watched the vid or that it didn't deal with all three trimesters? Of course it does; I was responding to R460's last sentence. Briefly, she is urging the brutality of abortion in the last trimester as an argument to ban it in then, at a stage when even under Roe it would be used only to save the mother's life/health: let the mother die rather than give her an abortion. Maybe *you* should read more carefully and not make ignorant comments. In any case, it's clear that R460/R444 etc. is probably the same right-wing troll who clogs up various threads with long-winded, circular, back-pedaling—and in this case inflammatory—nonsense and is not worth responding to except as R465 suggests.

When you post a video about abortion in all stages of pregnancy, and explicitly recommend watching the later ones, you're telling us to ban abortion in those late stages—precisely when women need them to save their health or even life. It's the opposite of a rare situation in those stages (when abortions "for birth control," as you phrase it, is exceedingly rare). Okay. Last post. Abortion as birth control vs Abortion as life saving emergency for the expecting mother who would never have considered abortion otherwise. See the difference? No. It's not murder in the latter scenario, but a life-saving sacrifice. The circumstances dictate the terms. Contrasting, a promiscuous and irresponsible woman who doesn't take care to protect herself from becomming pregnant is another issue.
Okay. I'll even go here: Sherri Shepherd vs Any woman who's going to die by carrying her child to term or before.
Okay. Final comparison: A circle and an oval appear to be quite similar, yet they are not the same. There's a distinct difference.
Women should not retain the right to kill their own living babies legally and at will.
Finished.

Hefner and abortion advocates dedicated their life to make it so men had NO responsibility. Maybe the boys needed this slap to wake them up.

R484 and if you watched a woman slowly die a torturous death of sepsis because doctors refused to remove a miscarried infectious fetus from her body for fear of arrest, you'd see the reality of policing women's healthcare.
Then again YOU might not care. There are plenty of so=called pro lifers who'd give no second thought to that woman while crying over the fetus.

R486, you can try, but there's no reasoning with this troll. They post a video where the abortions get more and more graphic, saying it will turn us against abortion. In the early stages it's just extracting an embryo—the troll says ban it! No abortion as birth control! In the later stages (when Roe, btw, was not at issue) it involves injections, dismemberment, etc.—the troll says (R472) they think that should be legal if it saves the mother. I.e. the more graphic the video gets, the more concessions the troll makes to legal abortion—and yet tells us the opposite.
Yes, I'm aware I've just tee'd up another pretzel-like diatribe from the troll. Sorry.

I think abortion is just the start, as eventually the same people screaming for abortions to be banned, will immediately set their sights on the LGBT community. They see abortions as just the start of on an ongoing war, which will eventually encompass gay marriage and all the progress that the gay community has made in the past three decades.

R490, Clarence Thomas made that clear in his concurrence to the Dobbs decision, where he said that the Court should reconsider (i.e. overturn) the decisions in Lawrence, Obergefell, and Griswold—they established a constitutional right to private consenting sex, gay marriage, and birth control.

R487 it is happening, has happened, and will keep happening. Thank you for giving me an excuse to highlight the story of Savita Halappanavar, the woman's whose death after a string of many similar ones is the reason abortion is now legal in majority-Catholic Ireland.
[quote]On 21 October 2012, Halappanavar, then 17 weeks pregnant, was examined at University Hospital Galway after complaining of back pain, but was soon discharged without a diagnosis. She returned to the hospital later that day, this time complaining of lower pressure, a sensation she described as feeling "something coming down", and a subsequent examination found that the gestational sac was protruding from her body. She was admitted to hospital, as it was determined that miscarriage was unavoidable, and several hours later, just after midnight on 22 October, her water broke but did not expel the fetus. The following day, on 23 October, Halappanavar discussed abortion with her consulting physician but her request was promptly refused, as Irish law at that time forbade abortion if a fetal heartbeat was still present. Afterwards, Halappanavar developed sepsis and, despite doctors' efforts to treat her, had a cardiac arrest at 1:09 AM on 28 October, at the age of 31, and died.
If you have the stomach, also look up Sheila Hodgers. Another martyr to the cause in Ireland although slightly different circumstances. Death by torture when doctors stopped treating her cancer to protect her fetus, refused an abortion despite knowing the fetus would not survive, and then refused to administer her painkillers during delivery despite her cancer ravaged body being in debilitating pain. The baby died immediately after birth and she shortly followed.

^ Those are "has happened." Here is a now-happening:
[quote]Doctors have denied an American woman on holiday in Malta a potentially life-saving abortion, despite saying her baby had a “zero chance” of survival after she was admitted to hospital with severe bleeding in her 16th week of pregnancy. Despite an “extreme risk” of haemorrhage and infection, doctors at the Mater Dei hospital in Msida told Andrea Prudente that they would not perform a termination because of the country’s total ban on abortion. Prudente and her husband are seeking a medical transfer from Malta to the UK, which the couple say is their only option due to the risk to her life. They claim medical staff were uncooperative in their attempts to leave and in sharing medical records with the couple’s insurance company.

Another recent easily preventable maternal death:
[quote]A Polish hospital said Tuesday that doctors and midwives did everything they could to save the lives of a pregnant woman and her fetus in a case that has put the spotlight on a new restriction on Poland’s abortion law. The 30-year-old woman died of septic shock in her 22nd week of pregnancy. Doctors did not perform an abortion, even though her fetus was lacking amniotic fluid, according to a lawyer for the family.

In MO this is how OB-GYNs have responded to the AG's overt threat re enforcement of the newly triggered abortion ban. And they still are not guaranteed protection from prosecution. "Medical emergency" is an affirmative defense--meaning the defendant doctor has to prove it was an emergency, the prosecutor does not have to prove there wasn't one.

[quote] C'mon. This is not happening, never happened and will never happen
It happens seldom in the U.S. because abortion has been legal. Now that the law prioritizes even an univable fetus's life over the woman's, it will start happening a lot more. Get your head out of your ass.

Why don’t women use that instead of home pregnancy tests?

That would backfire big time. Women would be fucking pissed at having a dog sniffing them up to see if they’re pregnant before boarding a plane. Even more so at seeing their daughters subjected to that.

Looking into it the dog story seems to be a "joke" from this guy.
Chip Franklin is an American talk show host, writer, producer, filmmaker, comedian and musician. He's hosted radio talk shows for 25+ years,{1994-2021} from Washington DC to San Francisco, on WMAL, WBAL, KOGO and most recently on KGO San Francisco. The Washington Post's Marc Fisher says "Franklin adds a rare dose of irony to a medium that rarely trusts its audience to get the joke."

Pretty soon they’ll also ban gay marriage and pass a religious freedom law, where some fat sow will refuse to serve you at the checking counter because your gayness is offensive to her religious belief system.
