R2- I had a house share in Fire Island Pines from 2001 to 2005. I've been going to Provincetown since 1995- not every year of course- I definitely like Provincetown more- I always have. It's very expensive ( accommodations) nowadays.

R6- I loath scene queens. When I went to Fire Island Pines I just did my own thing and hardly ever took my shirt off. I was never into drugs and don't drink plus I never liked GAY music or aesthetics so that made me an oddball there.

R9- The reason I kept going back after my first summer there - I was hoping to meet the right people, connect with people there, make some friends there. None of that ever happened. I got so bored of the whole scene- I didn't bother going for all of the weekends in my house share my last year there - which was 2005.

Traveling was much more fun. I went to San Francisco for my first real time in 2005- I had a wonderful time .

I kind of get the theoretical appeal of FI circa 1970-90 when gays were more marginalized, though the few times I went out there I found it cliquish and pretentious. I don’t get the appeal Of a ghetto sized experience today though.

R12- I'm not and never was a SCENE QUEEN and I was never attracted to those types. I only like guys who are civilians- who don't feel the need to conform to the prevailing gay aesthetic who are uninitiated- don't have big build with tattoos and wear tank tops in the summer and drool over Beyonce

R16- How do I sound like a clone? I'm hairy and I don't wax anything. I do try to keep in shape by walking seven days a week and l lift weights twice a week. I do sit ups and eat a lot of produce- I do fall off the wagon and binge on sweets and frozen pizza every so often- that's my only addiction. I'm not into unsafe sex but I have slipped a few times over the years- I'm a top. I had my doctor test me for hiv and other sti's recently and everything tested negative.

The older ones are the only ones who can afford it in Fire Island and Provincetown. The prices are not just pricey but out-of-control insane.

That whole thing never appealed to me. I don't enjoy vacations with crowds of gay men. Too much drama. Give me a quiet beach house somewhere easier to get to without the bad music and speedo crowd. It did play a big role in gay history as a safe place for creative gays and lesbians to get out of the city. So many stories about that era sound amazing. But these days? With those queens? Lord, I'd rather just hang out at a friend's pool.

DL queens will be happy about one thing- I got sea 🌊 sick 🤕 on most of them.

It’s beautiful and a great place to meet men IRL - especially in your 30s. Glad it still exists. Like NYC, it’s always been expensive and complicated - but it’s a great place to visit.

Not to switch the subject, OP. Please describe your gay cruise experience. I haven't been on one. My friends that have only went once and said never again. They say they went on a "nice" one and not some massive budget friendly one. But I'm not sure what a "nice" gay cruise is.

R45- Just make sure you don’t have a tendency to get sea sick 🤕. There are a LOT of scene queens 👸 on these cruises 🚢 but NOT everyone is that. There are plenty of nice low key 🔑 types you can meet- like me.
