Ryan was in England filming the movie Barry Lyndon, and would have been in bed during the ceremony. Tatum called him later that night and said, "Guess what I have in my hand, Daddy?" Ryan replied, "Guess what I have in MY hand?", and hung up. The general consensus is that he was angry over not getting nominated for Paper Moon and jealous of his 10 year old daughter's nomination. Makes you sick, doesn't it?
Hollywood is full of sick and evil people. I hate to break it to you. Only morons still unironically venerate these dreadful people.

Sylvia Sydney deserved that Oscar, for "Summer Wishes, Winter Dreams."

Tatum was non-binary when being non-binary wasn't cool.

OP this might have been more interesting without all of your obnoxious moralising and commentary.

R1 there's jerks everywhere, not just in Hollywood.

Out of her fellow nominees, she was the weakest link.
Candy Clark or Madeline would have been my choice.

r4, I bet you thought it was cute didn't you asshole.

I agree Madeline Khan should have won, but to be fair, Tatum O'Neal was not bad, she actually delivered an outstanding performance at such a young age.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | June 22, 2022 12:10 PM |
Ryan knew Tatum was going to win and he chose not to request off from the film for x2 days to attend the Oscars with her. Hence he still has her on the hook for his approval all these decades later. Clearly he was jealous of his own child for getting a nomination instead of him. He's scum, plain and simple.

According to people on location, Tatum's performance was cobbled together line-by-line in post. She was constantly flubbing/forgetting lines.
But her performance is still better than her dad's.

C’mon, you gotta admit that was a good comeback!

What did he have in his hand?

A nickel, Rose.

Leaving everything else aside, that was a waay inappropriate thing to say to a child. If Children's Services heard that they'd be looking into him. (Well, they would if they had any brains.)

In her book, Tatum said that he punched her at home right after she got her Oscar. So which story is it?

R3, STFU with your imaginary bullshit put on earlier generations.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | June 22, 2022 1:27 PM |
Tatum was a tomboy, not nonbinary.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | June 22, 2022 1:33 PM |
r8 this is why they hate gay people, because cruelty such as Ryan's is the kind of behaviour you aspire to.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | June 22, 2022 1:41 PM |
R16 Tatum is famously troubled, over-medicated, and on and off of the cocaine. It's hard to tell if even she knows what actually happened anymore.

Oh, honey . . . that was probably the LEAST problematic thing Ryan ever did to Tatum.

My point exactly. It's a red flag.

Tatum is gay. Her papa is gay.

If anyone gives off creepy incest vibes, it's Ryan and Tatum O'Neal.

I'm seeing a screening of "Barry Lyndon" in 35mm this evening (never seen it), and now I suppose I'll be thinking about this phone call during the film.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | June 22, 2022 3:36 PM |
I saw Barry Lyndon as a kid. And even at that age, I thought Ryan O'Neal was a lightweight actor for the role.
I don't remember liking the movie, but I do remember a gay scene, which embarrassed me because I was with my dad.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | June 22, 2022 4:14 PM |
R25 well, he's gay and so was Farrah. And ,no, none of them are bisexual.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | June 22, 2022 8:25 PM |
O'Neal was terrible in Barry Lyndon. I didn't blame the stepson for hating him.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | June 22, 2022 8:36 PM |
Ryan O'Neal isn't gay. You are thinking about Lee Majors, who Farrah was with first.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | June 22, 2022 8:49 PM |
Ryan was fantastic in Barry Lyndon, and gorgeous too. And Tatum absolutely deserved that Oscar, although her place was really somewhere in between best supporting and best actress.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | June 23, 2022 4:26 AM |
R33: I remember seeing "Tough Guys Don't Dance", instead of getting popcorn at concessions, I should gotten the plot.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | June 23, 2022 4:49 AM |
R31 Farrah spent too long with gay majors to be straight.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | June 23, 2022 10:15 AM |
Ryan dated lesbian actresses year after year. Publicity dating is one thing but if you never date a straight person it's not normal. I've researched actresses and most are lesbians. A straight actor would fall in love with a civilian at some point. Farrah dated lee too long to be straight. She was hot and could have any guy she wanted. It takes a lot of research but you can tell who is gay. You can tell by dating history and friends.
