Birth control can fail even when used perfectly, R53. (The number of people who wear masks with their noses hanging out should suggest the rate of user error.) Additionally, many states seeking to ban abortion also want to ban or restrict access to birth control while simultaneously mandating abstinence-only sex education which correlates with higher levels of unplanned pregnancies.

Imagine you wanted a baby but later found out that your partner was the scum of the Earth and you didn't want to be tied to that person for the next 18 years of your life and beyond. People make mistakes. They get drunk and forget to use a condom. They get sick, and they take antibiotics without reading the paperwork that says antibiotics can counter the effects of the BC pill. They use the rhythm method incorrectly or the pull-out method because they haven't been educated properly. Should the penalty for a 15-mistake be 9 months of body discomfort, a long and painful delivery that might cause permanent damage, and an obligation to meet a child's every need for 18 years?
And some women follow all the rules with birth control and still get knocked up. No birth control is 100 percent effective. Except abstinence. That's what the religious zealots want: abstinence. They want people to stop having sex outside of (straight) marriage. That's not reasonable for any adult, though.

TBH, not much will change. I live in a conservative state, and it was already nearly impossible to get an abortion. There were only 3 or 4 clinics in the entire state, and the one near me constantly had protestors hanging outside. Will they take away gay marriage or other protections next? They absolutely wouldn't.

You need to read Clarence Thomas' concurring opinion. He says the rulings to legalize same-sex relationships and same-sex marriage now need to be reconsidered.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | June 24, 2022 2:52 PM |
R130, they absolutely will. Clarence Thomas has said so.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | June 24, 2022 3:01 PM |
I think Clarence and his hag wife are likely to spend the rest of their lives in unofficial "house arrest." Teehee.

R140, Iām astounded that you donāt think theyāre coming after gay rights. They absolutely are.

Oops, obv. I meant r130 at my post at r134.

So RBG's retirement didn't matter. Had she gone earlier it would have still been revoked with a 5-4 vote, no?
by Anonymous | reply 136 | June 24, 2022 7:11 PM |
Exactly r136.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | June 24, 2022 7:19 PM |
So much misinformation out there.
Yes, RBG's replacement made the difference. Roberts was NOT on board with overruling Roe. He voted to uphold the Mississippi ban, but specifically called out the five-justices who did decide to overrule Roe for eliminating the abortion right altogether, so yes, it made a difference.
Clarence Thomas is one man. Kavanaugh, who was crucial to the five justice anti-Roe bloc, said in his concurrence that he does not see this decision as casting contraception or same-sex marriage decisions into doubt. Believe him or not, but if you're going to bring up one, bring up the other.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | June 24, 2022 7:56 PM |
R138, Kavanaugh is not the leader of the conservatives, Thomas is. Both Thomas and Alito are fanatics who have criticized the decisions recognizing the basic rights of gay people. It is also worth noting that Kavanaugh is a liar. He lied about treating Roe as settled precedent. Thereās no reason to believe what he says.

I believe him!

Soā¦..what can Congress and Biden DO now to stop it from being implemented?
Can Biden issue an Executive Order or a stay by the DOJ?
Can individual Governors refuse to implement it?

[quote]Can individual Governors refuse to implement it?
Refuse to implement what?
Do keep up. Today's decision leaves abortion rights up to the individual states.
In states such as New York and California, for instance, abortion is and will remain legal.
by Anonymous | reply 142 | June 24, 2022 9:52 PM |
Refuse to implement the SC ruling to maintain R v. W by placing a STAY on the states courts. Iām not a lawyer, but thereās been instances take a court ruling can be stayed until further moving parts are in place.
Ex: a woman is raped and pregnant, but she canāt afford to leave her job to go another state to get an abortion. What if she has childcare obligations? Whoās going to pay for these extra costs? So you can implement a new law withou addressing these issue.
Those dumb ass judges didnāt think it through because they donāt give a shit and want all us to be Christian only.

All you pregnant ladies about to pop, head to the Senate floor and hand any unable to care for newborn babies to those 5 Justices! DO IT. So far, it isnāt a crimeā¦yet. Let them take care of and provide a place for the innocent child to live

You do know the SC justices are not seated in the Senate, um, right?

There will just be more cock for gay guys, as men become afraid of becoming fathers.
by Anonymous | reply 146 | June 24, 2022 11:34 PM |
R146, Iād like to be optimistic, but I do not think that ever worked.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | June 24, 2022 11:42 PM |
So if had been 4-4 Roberts would have voted the other way?
I'm so confused as to his vote.
by Anonymous | reply 148 | June 24, 2022 11:55 PM |
R148, the Roberts opinion is a disgrace. He says, in essence, that the Court should go slowly in overturning Roe. He thinks Roe is wrong, but he thought it would be alarming to just pull the rug out from under it. It was a purely political, even cosmetic, matter to him.

Asked this on the other thread, but seriously as a gay man living in North Carolina should I move to a blue state as soon as possible? It's beginning to feel we've entered a Handmaid's Tale type of situation...

Weāre in Atlanta and had this conversation today. We can easily sell up and relocate to RI. It feels like the clock is ticking now and weāll be Texas shortly because the Republican government here always jumps onboard sooner or later. Iāve been out for 30 years and Iāve never felt so unsettled being in America than now. They are coming for us and it will be worse in the South for now.

R150 If you can afford it I think it would be wise to move to a blue state. Otherwise, you might be living in a state that basically has sharia law. come join us in a blue state.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | June 25, 2022 7:41 AM |
Prophetic poster ā agree 119. The abortion decision will drop tomorrow (Friday), to allow for mass protests to clog the streets, highways, etc.. The rest will come next week.ā

If you as a gay man are concerned that you will be unable to get an abortion, you definitely should go somewhere.

We are in the middle of the Second Civil War.
When, Texas said it was going to empower third person bounty hunters and the SCOTUS Shadow Docket validated the violation if all civil rights, Republicans had attained the Holy Grail, of ignoring laws and enforcing others against their enemies.
