Academy Award for Best Actress
I was bored last night, so I went through the entire list of Best Actress winners, and the nominees.
Some things that stood out:
Rosalind Russell never won an Oscar! Neither has Glenn close, although she was nominated four times.
It's shocking that Frances McDormand has the second highest Oscar wins of any other woman besides Katherine Hepburn. WTF is up with that?
I've forgotten that Jodi Foster won two Oscars.
Julie Andrews should have won the Oscar for Maria Von Trapp in 1965, rather than for Mary Poppins in 1964. I guess they didn't want her to win twice in a row.
1958 was a good year. Roz Russell (Auntie Mame) or Elizabeth Taylor (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof) should have won the Oscar that year. NOT Susan Hayward. You never hear about that movie "I Want to Live," but you certainly hear about the other two movies.
Faye Dunaway should have won for "Bonnie and Clyde," rather than for "Network."
Oh, and did Dorothy Dandridge get to attend the Oscars in person, in 1954?

Rooney Mara deserved to win in 2011 for "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," over Meryl Streep.
She was amazing in that movie.

The only Oscar Meryl Streep ever deserved was for Julie and Julia in 2009.
And she never even won for that.

In 1955 the Oscar ceremony was held jointly at the RKO Pantages Theatre in Hollywood and the NBC Century Theatre in New York. Bob Hope hosted from Hollywood and Thelma Ritter hosted from NY.
Dandridge attended in NY and presented the award for best editing.

Did they do that just for Dandridge, R3?

No, several nominees and a large crowd were at the theater in NY.

One thing is for certain.
There is NO WAY on Earth that Gwyneth Paltrow deserved the Oscar for "Shakespeare in Love" over Cate Blanchett in "Elizabeth."
Blanchett was a million times better actress than Paltrow.

Katherine Hepburn was over rated.

R6 Blanchett just copied my performance from Elizabeth R. - she deserves scorn.

R1 Watch my performance in the original film! I'm the real deal!
Mara was pathetic as was the re-make.

It means she's better than anyone else except Hepburn, whom she's certain to one day surpass.

Then you've never seen Elizabeth R. Blanchett did it completely differently (although frankly Jackson's was even better--she played Elizabeth as a sour, cynical woman, embittered by her years of being bullied by her royal siblings and her guardians, and given to fits of rage).

Cate Blanchett is one of the best actresses of her generation.
To think that Gwyneth Paltrow won an Academy Award over Cate... it just boggles the mind.
Daddy must have bought that award for GOOP. No doubt about it.

Jessica Chastain was the most deserving Best Actress winner in decades.
