I never tried any of her dumps specifically, but I did make an apple dump cake one night just to see what they were like. I happened to have all the ingredients in the pantry so I threw it together in just a few minutes. It wasn't something I would make again, but it was tasty. Frankly it was more like a cobbler than a cake. If you're desperate for a quick dessert I guess it wouldn't be so bad.

This is the recipe for the dump cake I made. You can use whatever type of pie filling you like. It's actually quite good with ice cream.
2 21 oz cans pie filling of your choice
1 16 1/4 oz white box cake mix
12 Tbs salted butter cut into 12 pieces
1/4 cup chopped pecans
Preheat oven to 350°.
Spread the pie filling out evenly into a 9x13" casserole dish
Sprinkle the cake mix evenly over the pie filling
Spread the 12 Tbs. of butter evenly all over the mix
Sprinkle pecans evenly on the top
Bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly around the edges
