I was thinking about this story the other day. So sad.
Is this the guy Michael Keaton’s character was based on in Dopesick?

I had a doctor (supposedly in recovery) in Miami Beach about 15 years ago. I remember that one day as I was ushered into his office, he casually mentioned that the patient exiting was the biggest meth dealer on the Beach.
Well, I found out later he wasn't so clean and sober - in fact, he had been using meth regularly and paying for his habit by bilking the Medicaid system. One day I showed up for an appointment and there were chains on the office doors and he had been carted off to jail.
I've always been afraid to google him because I'm sure he had some horrible end.

R7 I will google him.

Meth must be amazing to micro-dose. Adderall is good if you get the real thing or a good generic. I imagine most people would probably feel great on small amounts of meth. Its just keeping it in check…

Dumb fuck got himself convicted!
"Three and a half weeks after that sale to the middleman working with investigators, Cash sent the man a panicked text message:
“I was just paid a VERY uncomfortable visit by the drug task force investigators of the Broward County Sheriff Dept. They told me they knew enough to present a case to get a search warrant and probably arrest me if I didn’t immediately voluntarily cease my illegal activities that would probably result in confiscation of my house and at least 5-10 years in prison BEFORE parole!
“So, needless to say, my ass is SCARED and will do EXACTLY what they said to get them off my case!!! Therefore, I’m completely finished!! So, you know what that means. Good luck!”
When will people ever learn not to put self incriminating things in writing and or even speak about them?

Disability is based upon one's income, thus those with higher annual household incomes will get more in payments.
Taken as a whole however, if someone was earning $30k or more per month, then $15k would be living on reduced circumstances.

Good doctor is a good ole boy from rural Alabama; why is this end somehow not shocking...

If anyone is feeling sorry for Dr. Cash, I'd say don't. He was one of those who supplied local Fort Lauderdale gay scene with crystal meth. Who knows how many gay men he harmed.
From above linked article...
"Like many retirees of any age, Cash found himself at loose ends in Florida. He had enough disability income to pay for necessities, but he was without the activities to which he had once attached his identity. Perhaps in an attempt to become as beloved on South Florida’s gay club scene as he had once been in the medical community of the rural South, Cash bought $100,000 of methamphetamine pills and began hosting lavish parties at his Fort Lauderdale home, with drugs for all the guests."

For people like this they've had a lucky escape only dealing with DEA. IRS can (and has in past) gone after criminals for not reporting illicit or income otherwise made illegally. For all the horrible crimes Al Capone committed he was put away for tax evasion.

Private disability/temporary disability insurance, R18 and R20.
The firm I worked for had a physician group for a client that had a wayward partner who was collecting $15K or so in disability a month while in rehab. The premiums are sky high, but physicians always make sure to take care of themselves in the event of any kind of income interruption.

Michael Hutchence and Paula Yates.
The cops investigating Hutchence's death came out and said in an interview years later that he was strung out from running out of drugs ( he had cocaine prozac, ecstacy and a tonne of alcohol in his system when he died) and a friend made a documentary pointing to a severe, long-term head injury and the fact that he'd been up for several days straight without sleep. He'd also been a frequent user of heroin.
Yates had used methadone to get off heroin and been mostly clean* for a year before her death from heroin, but took the amount she had been used to taking and no longer had the same tolerance. Choked on her own vomit and was found by her toddler daughter. *She'd also been visiting a local liquor shop in the weeks before her death, buying multiple mini vodka bottles several times a day.

I find stories like that doctor's terribly tragic. These people spent a lot of money for an education and threw it away.

I had a close friend who was. He went from top of his field, owning a beautiful home, and having a wonderful husband and friends to a shell of his former self. I don’t think he acknowledges how far he fell. I cut him off after giving him about a hundred chances, But he had become relentlessly abusive toward me, his closest friend. He occasionally asks mutual friends if I’d be open to being friends again. He’s never apologized for anything he did to me when he was on drugs, and frankly I just would never put up with that kind of abuse again.
A mutual friend sent me an email he sent to her, trying to persuade her to dump me as a friend, because I wasn’t willing to befriend him again. He cited the fact that I had cut out a couple of other people who had been abusive toward me and framed it as some sort of personality flaw.
That was the end for me, when he came out and said the problem with me was I wouldn’t tolerate abuse. He’s about to enter into his third marriage, which will no doubt end in bitterness and failure like the others.
Good freaking riddance!
