CHARMED Drama: Round 666
Now an original writer of the show is attacking the just-cancelled remake.
I thought the remake was not-great, but I've never seen an original property attack like this. For YEARS.
And of course, the very angry writer was the scribe behind such classics as...Lucky Charmed, Charmed Noir, I Dream of Phoebe and Death Becomes Them.

At least it's not a feud between the actresses (for once).

I liked the last scene of the reboot, but I wished Shannen had been standing there.

Lol at the writer acting like the original Charmed was Shakespeare. It was not a well-written or well-acted show. It was a fun drama that had witches and magic and beautiful women and men. It took itself way too seriously at times. That's about it. The mythology was all over the place, the cat disappeared for no reason, it was clear the original producers didn't have a well-planned arc or had done much worldbuilding in advance. Allegedly immutable things got changed or ignored as they went and they ceased to be convenient.
And the new writers sound like they were all laid off from Fox News. Do these series not have press people handling anything?

OG Charmed was good until they killed the source. After that it was a mess.
Not shocking this guy worked on the later years.
No one is taking your money away. No one is pulled Charmed DVDs from shelves. The original exists.

Every time I think of Charmed I remember Rose McGowan "acting" as the sorceress from the past with her fake deep voice and fake gravitas. It was so bad it was hilarious.
I also remember how the series started out rooted in actual witchcraft and then just threw it all out the window and just kept adding bizarre shit with each new episode and season.
A show that did this much better was Eastwick, which was basically done as Charmed for thirty-somethings. But they had done the worldbuilding in advance and it seemed more rooted in something, rather than changing from episode to episode. Unfortunately not enough watched it (or had gotten their fill from Charmed) and it got cancelled after the first season, insultingly not even airing the last few episodes.

R7 once the original creator, Constance Burge, left the show, Charmed became a steaming mess. For the writers or the actresses to be offended is laughable.

Hahaha, I actually love this comment from Alyssa:
[quote]Asked for comment, Milano said in a statement to E! News, "Hurt people hurt people. Commenting any further doesn't align with my wellness plan."
I'm going to use that "commenting further doesn't align with my wellness plan" line.

Yeah that was just cleaning up loose ends at the end because everyone was wondering why the cat vanished 😂
They really made a lot of that up as they went along - and you can tell!

I still think that episode was an attempt at a spinoff.

Witches Of East End only lasted a season as did The Secret Circle. I can't imagine the possible spin-off with Billie would have lasted long either. Audiences we're over it.

R14 Those are three different shows - Eastwick and Witches of East End are not the same. East End lasted two seasons, btw.
And no one wanted to see a spin-off with Billie. She was never a good actress and I'm not sure why she keeps getting pushed on everyone.

R15 we were good writers and will NOT be disrespected. Justice for Billie!

Wasn't Shannen the only one who ever wished the new cast luck and was positive about a reboot. I think she worked with one of the new actresses father and he said how sweet and kind she was.
That was pretty hilarious.

R17 it's funny because the three remaining actresses seemed to be such cunts about it. I'm wondering what reputation they all got behind the scenes that no one wanted to include them. (Aside from the rumors)

The actress in the original Charmed were just about the worst actresses I've ever seen on TV. None of them had any range, none had any charisma, and they all relied on being pretty or making cutesy gestures to get through so many scenes where they seemed to have simply lost their way. (The writing didn't help much, I can't remember a single show that seemed well written.)
Compare it to Buffy, which had everything going for it -- good acting, great stories, a sense of momentum from one episode to the other.

I didn’t see all of the reboot, but from what I did see, I could already tell that the acting, writing and special effects were better than the original. If I were a writer on the original show, I might leave that off my resume…

r23 some of them even became worse actors as the series progressed, such as Holly Marie-Combs. She just got lazier and lazier.

r23 Buffy actually had well-done world building, they weren't adding new things here and there to justify bringing in some random guest star or explain something. It was only until the later seasons when Marti Noxon came in that the worldbuilding started to fall apart and she started breaking some of the established patterns and rules of the logic of the series - it's when the worldbuilding is ignored to fit the plot of the week or the season arc. But it still was better written than Charmed.

Charmed is a cheesy Frau mess. Witches with spell books getting in all kinds of shenanigans and having all sorts of hot love affairs. It's the FRAU glorification of witchcraft.

R17, Holly Marie Combs wished the new cast well. This story from the time of the reboot debuting didn’t mention Shannen.

Rose McGowan's "irreplaceable" - I love how she includes herself, considering she replaced Shannen Doherty.

[quote]"What’s old is new… and I think it’s wonderful a new generation can connect with three strong, powerful women, not to mention the many jobs the show provides," Doherty tells EW exclusively.
Doherty, who costarred with Combs in the original Charmed and was replaced by McGowan (playing a new character) after three seasons, has backed the reboot since its early days. When the new show was announced, she wrote on social media, "I'm intrigued by the idea that a new generation might be comforted, inspired like you all were. Charmed helped us all in some way."
"In other news, my dad met the lovely @DohertyShannen onset once whilst standing in," she said via Twitter. "He approached her saying his daughter was a new Charmed one (pre-covid!). He told me she was so kind, thrilled for us, and excited to take a picture. She sent her love."

I think the troublemaker was always Alyssa Milano. I do believe Doherty could be difficult to work with, too, it sounded like most of the beef Milano had with Doherty was that she would show up late to the set occasionally. Then Milano became queen of the series and had it to herself for the rest of the run.

He's STILL tweeting. Dude...you wrote LUCKY CHARMED and I DREAM OF PHOEBE. I wouldn't be bragging about the quality of your work. Most people agree that Charmed was good in Seasons 1-4. You worked on it Season 4+. Um....

Jesus, r39, you weren't kidding. Even his list of "alternative careers to being a writer" goes on for too long and is generic and unimaginative.
The one time in that rant, near the end, he seems like he might be wrapping up to a surprising moment of self-realization... Nope, he's just a dick.

I loved the OG one, but only the Shannen seasons, but the new one was unwatchable. I said upthread that the last scene of the new one is worth watching, only because it stars the Manor.
Of course Buffy is the superior show, and Angel is better than Buffy. Too bad Joss went cape shit and got #metoo'd.

R15 I never said they were the same show....the point is that audiences weren't interested in witches anymore. I don't see how Kaley was pushed on anyone. She was busy making millions thanks to Big Bang.
R24 the reboot was shit. The only improvement was the cgi.
