by Anonymousreply 2June 12, 2022 10:53 PM

Who?

by Anonymousreply 3June 12, 2022 10:54 PM

I'm all aquiver!

by Anonymousreply 4June 12, 2022 10:56 PM

Raul Esparza, R2. A scenery chewer with a huge nose and terrible vibrato.

by Anonymousreply 5June 12, 2022 10:57 PM

I used to have such a thing for Darren Criss and now I just find him insufferable. Also, are they lip-synching?

by Anonymousreply 6June 12, 2022 11:04 PM

Very tired of the painted nails on men. Not sure why, but I find it a huge turnoff.

by Anonymousreply 7June 12, 2022 11:06 PM

Just to annoy - JTF and murderous husband

by Anonymousreply 8June 12, 2022 11:08 PM

I'm on the Paramount Plus page via Amazon Prime, but I can't seem to cue up the 7:00-8:00 portion. Any suggestions?

by Anonymousreply 9June 12, 2022 11:08 PM

Fucking SIX wins best score? Ugh….

by Anonymousreply 10June 12, 2022 11:09 PM

*queue up #ohdear

by Anonymousreply 11June 12, 2022 11:09 PM

Well, there goes A Strange Loop's momentum.

by Anonymousreply 12June 12, 2022 11:09 PM

Woof, R8.

by Anonymousreply 13June 12, 2022 11:09 PM

Wow. Six beats ASL right out of the gate (for score). Maybe ASL won’t sweep like expected.

by Anonymousreply 14June 12, 2022 11:10 PM

I am connecting directly through the Paramount Plus app with no issue.

by Anonymousreply 15June 12, 2022 11:10 PM

Jesus, r10 wasn't joking

by Anonymousreply 16June 12, 2022 11:10 PM

r9, you need to sign up directly for the P+ app unfortunately.

But it's free for one month.

by Anonymousreply 17June 12, 2022 11:11 PM

Judith Light is already speechifying

by Anonymousreply 18June 12, 2022 11:12 PM

AKB and husband continue to look way too much like father and son

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 19June 12, 2022 11:14 PM

Scotty Bixby is cute. I am jealous of Andrew

by Anonymousreply 20June 12, 2022 11:15 PM

Same here, R15. No issues.

by Anonymousreply 21June 12, 2022 11:16 PM

Costume Design of a Play:

Montana Levi Blanco “The Skin of Our Teeth."

by Anonymousreply 22June 12, 2022 11:16 PM

Andrew is 37 now - way beyond twink or twunk.

by Anonymousreply 23June 12, 2022 11:16 PM

Costume Design of a Musical: Gabriella Slade “Six: The Musical”

by Anonymousreply 24June 12, 2022 11:17 PM

Is AKB the bottom in that relationship?

by Anonymousreply 25June 12, 2022 11:17 PM

Skylar Astin's marriage to a woman lasted 2.5 years.

by Anonymousreply 26June 12, 2022 11:18 PM

If AKB is the bottom it's a total waste of that big cock. However, I really can't see him as anything but a bottom.

by Anonymousreply 27June 12, 2022 11:19 PM

Best Scenic Design of a Play:

Es Devlin, “The Lehman Trilogy"

by Anonymousreply 28June 12, 2022 11:21 PM

r25, yeah, I thought the word was that AKB is a total bottom, despite the big dick.

by Anonymousreply 29June 12, 2022 11:21 PM

Best Scenic Design of a Musical:

Bunny Christie, “Company”

by Anonymousreply 30June 12, 2022 11:22 PM

Jeremy Pope is so gorgeous and talented.

by Anonymousreply 31June 12, 2022 11:24 PM

Whoa, I can't believe Six won over ASL. I'm giggling.

by Anonymousreply 32June 12, 2022 11:24 PM

I wish Jeremy Pope would do a nude scene

by Anonymousreply 33June 12, 2022 11:26 PM

Best Lighting Design of a Play:

Jon Clark, “The Lehman Trilogy”

by Anonymousreply 34June 12, 2022 11:26 PM

so it's a UK sweep brewing tonight

by Anonymousreply 35June 12, 2022 11:26 PM

[quote] Is AKB the bottom in that relationship?

He's the bottom of EVERY relationship.

by Anonymousreply 36June 12, 2022 11:27 PM

Speaking of bottoms, what's the over/under for the number of cocks Darren Criss has taken in his ass?

by Anonymousreply 37June 12, 2022 11:28 PM

Best Lighting Design of a Musical:

Natasha Katz, “MJ”

by Anonymousreply 38June 12, 2022 11:28 PM

It will be glorious if JTF loses.

by Anonymousreply 39June 12, 2022 11:29 PM

I hear if JTF loses, Justin will hit someone with his car.

by Anonymousreply 40June 12, 2022 11:30 PM

I thought Len Cariou would get a standing O but nope.

by Anonymousreply 41June 12, 2022 11:31 PM

Wow, the CBS Broadcast is three hours and they don't have enough time for Angela Lansbury's lifetime aware during the main broadcast? Tacky.

by Anonymousreply 42June 12, 2022 11:32 PM

The Lansbury highlight reel skipped Anyone Can Whistle!

by Anonymousreply 43June 12, 2022 11:32 PM

^ *award

by Anonymousreply 44June 12, 2022 11:32 PM

I meant to upvote r39 but think I accidentally hit the ff instead. Sorry, r39. (If anyone wants to throw a WW his way for me...)

by Anonymousreply 45June 12, 2022 11:32 PM

[quote]Wow, the CBS Broadcast is three hours and they don't have enough time for Angela Lansbury's lifetime aware during the main broadcast? Tacky.

Especially after 100-years of Murder, She Wrote!

by Anonymousreply 46June 12, 2022 11:33 PM

Sad and pathetic, the whole thing. BIPOC, inclusion, diversity equals bad theater. Who is paying $200 to see this woke crap? Did Beanie go on today?

by Anonymousreply 47June 12, 2022 11:33 PM

hahahahahahaha

by Anonymousreply 48June 12, 2022 11:34 PM

Beanie has COVID!!!

by Anonymousreply 49June 12, 2022 11:34 PM

R40, That murdering SOB.

by Anonymousreply 50June 12, 2022 11:35 PM

I think Chuck Cooper will beat JTF.

by Anonymousreply 51June 12, 2022 11:35 PM

I mean, A Strange Loop and Paradise Square already aren't doing well ...

by Anonymousreply 52June 12, 2022 11:36 PM

I loved Bernadette singing along in the audience.

by Anonymousreply 53June 12, 2022 11:36 PM

They showed a still photo from Anyone Can Whistle

by Anonymousreply 54June 12, 2022 11:36 PM

MJ winning anything is gross.

by Anonymousreply 55June 12, 2022 11:37 PM

Thank you queens for watching so I don't have to.

by Anonymousreply 56June 12, 2022 11:37 PM

It's insulting that Angela's tribute was relegated to the Paramount+ hour.

by Anonymousreply 57June 12, 2022 11:39 PM

Skylar and Borle both out of Little Shop today.

by Anonymousreply 58June 12, 2022 11:40 PM

amateurs

by Anonymousreply 59June 12, 2022 11:41 PM

These lighting and sound designers winning tonight are hot (the men I mean).

by Anonymousreply 60June 12, 2022 11:41 PM

Best Sound Design of a Play:

Mikhail Fiksel, “Dana H”

by Anonymousreply 61June 12, 2022 11:42 PM

Yeah Darren Criss has become super annoying and r37 at least Ryan Murphy's if the rumors are correct.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 62June 12, 2022 11:43 PM

Best Sound Design of a Musical:

Gareth Owen, “MJ”

by Anonymousreply 63June 12, 2022 11:43 PM

A Strange Loop is now zero for four ...

by Anonymousreply 64June 12, 2022 11:43 PM

STRANGE LOOP certainly not sweeping, but I predict a best "Book" win.

by Anonymousreply 65June 12, 2022 11:44 PM

Remember when the Tony Awards didn't split every fucking category up between Plays and Musicals and the tech awards actually meant something?

by Anonymousreply 66June 12, 2022 11:44 PM

Which wig is Charlotte St. Martin wearing?

by Anonymousreply 67June 12, 2022 11:45 PM

Did somebody say "wig"?

by Anonymousreply 68June 12, 2022 11:46 PM

R62, are you saying Ryan Murphy is a top?

by Anonymousreply 69June 12, 2022 11:47 PM

Of COURSE Darren is wearing nail polish.

by Anonymousreply 70June 12, 2022 11:47 PM

Best Orchestrations:

Simon Hale, “Girl From the North Country"

by Anonymousreply 71June 12, 2022 11:48 PM

And some sort of eye jewelry, unless he's just sweating, R70.

by Anonymousreply 72June 12, 2022 11:49 PM

MJ for best choreography?! Over Music Man!?! HAHA! These Tony's are a mess!

by Anonymousreply 73June 12, 2022 11:50 PM

Best Choreography:

Christopher Wheeldon, “MJ”

by Anonymousreply 74June 12, 2022 11:51 PM

R40 I love you.

by Anonymousreply 75June 12, 2022 11:53 PM

Nice that they recognized Girl from the North Country. That show had the cleanest, sharpest sound I have ever heard on Broadway.

by Anonymousreply 76June 12, 2022 11:53 PM

I thought MJ was the front runner for choreography? That's what everyone predicted.

by Anonymousreply 77June 12, 2022 11:53 PM

No it's eye jewelry.

by Anonymousreply 78June 12, 2022 11:53 PM

Wow, that hour went by fast. Off to CBS.

by Anonymousreply 79June 12, 2022 11:55 PM

Will Oprah come out during the telecast and acknowledge the alleged victims? Or are we to act like they do not exist?

by Anonymousreply 80June 12, 2022 11:56 PM

Ugh there are still three more hours of this?

by Anonymousreply 81June 12, 2022 11:56 PM

It's starting!!

by Anonymousreply 82June 13, 2022 12:00 AM

That memorial to Lansbury was pathetic! And is she too ill to make a video? Or Zoom in?

by Anonymousreply 83June 13, 2022 12:00 AM

What is she singing?

by Anonymousreply 84June 13, 2022 12:01 AM

DL fave Charlie Williams and Ryan Steele dancing in the opening.

by Anonymousreply 85June 13, 2022 12:01 AM

pitchy

by Anonymousreply 86June 13, 2022 12:01 AM

I hate lip synching.

by Anonymousreply 87June 13, 2022 12:02 AM

Love Radio City! So glad to be back!

by Anonymousreply 88June 13, 2022 12:02 AM

She was going to come to the ceremony but she couldn't get out of her house because all the OTHER Tonys she won were blocking the door.

by Anonymousreply 89June 13, 2022 12:02 AM

Oh, this number is AWFUL.

by Anonymousreply 90June 13, 2022 12:02 AM

Hugh Jackman

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 91June 13, 2022 12:03 AM

This isn't good.

by Anonymousreply 92June 13, 2022 12:03 AM

Is it too late to have NPH or Hugh Jackman host tonight’s show?

I’ll pay for the Uber.

by Anonymousreply 93June 13, 2022 12:04 AM

This has community theater energy.

by Anonymousreply 94June 13, 2022 12:04 AM

This prerecorded opening number is just a phrase from a bunch of musicals with no coherent transition or meaning. It sucks.

by Anonymousreply 95June 13, 2022 12:04 AM

Whoever decided to do this mash-up should be fired and never work in theatre again.

by Anonymousreply 96June 13, 2022 12:04 AM

She’s giving James Corden a run for his money, and that’s not a good thing.

by Anonymousreply 97June 13, 2022 12:05 AM

Oh, dear. The show, not any of the comments above.

by Anonymousreply 98June 13, 2022 12:05 AM

So, Patti will win, of course, but will Hugh pull it off. And, what about his beard in the show? Does she get love?

by Anonymousreply 99June 13, 2022 12:05 AM

I've seen better high school productions. Not kidding.

by Anonymousreply 100June 13, 2022 12:05 AM

Well that sucked

by Anonymousreply 101June 13, 2022 12:06 AM

Great opening!!!!

by Anonymousreply 102June 13, 2022 12:06 AM

This is what happens when you ask an Oscar winner to host and not an experienced emcee.

by Anonymousreply 103June 13, 2022 12:06 AM

So stunning. So brave. So trite.

by Anonymousreply 104June 13, 2022 12:06 AM

It must have come off better in the theatre if even Patti was standing ,,, and smiling!

by Anonymousreply 105June 13, 2022 12:06 AM

Apparently, they think the average age of the theatre audience is 12 years old. A pandering embarrassment.

by Anonymousreply 106June 13, 2022 12:07 AM

Was that Lin Manuel Miranda's bf with him?

by Anonymousreply 107June 13, 2022 12:07 AM

Oh jeez here we go.

by Anonymousreply 108June 13, 2022 12:07 AM

More, please. I love hearing DeBose bomb.

by Anonymousreply 109June 13, 2022 12:07 AM

Does Patti have a martini?

by Anonymousreply 110June 13, 2022 12:07 AM

R106, they're trying to pander to people who don't know Broadway.

by Anonymousreply 111June 13, 2022 12:08 AM

Heh she’s going on about diversity and the camera goes to JTF.

by Anonymousreply 112June 13, 2022 12:08 AM

She’s kind of obnoxious, isn’t she?

by Anonymousreply 113June 13, 2022 12:08 AM

LMAO, someone on BWW said the opening had a cruise ship feel.

by Anonymousreply 114June 13, 2022 12:09 AM

“My fellow Academy Award winner” Ugh

by Anonymousreply 115June 13, 2022 12:09 AM

White, heterosexual people are bad. That’s the message I’m getting.

by Anonymousreply 116June 13, 2022 12:09 AM

We interrupt this program to bring you this important message:

MARY!

We now return you to our regularly scheduled program.

by Anonymousreply 117June 13, 2022 12:10 AM

R99, at the rate things are going, it's looking like the star of MJ will take Lead Actor.

by Anonymousreply 118June 13, 2022 12:10 AM

The theater, particularly the musical theatre, has ALWAYS been the most inclusive of all populist entertainments.

by Anonymousreply 119June 13, 2022 12:11 AM

Ugh!!! JTF for Take Me Out.

by Anonymousreply 120June 13, 2022 12:11 AM

I'm surprised they didn't play the theme song to JTF's sitcom when he went up there.

by Anonymousreply 121June 13, 2022 12:11 AM

Ugh that filthy filthy ginger.

by Anonymousreply 122June 13, 2022 12:12 AM

A Caucasian won a TONY? Booooo

by Anonymousreply 123June 13, 2022 12:12 AM

It's the Lin-Manuel Miranda Show! He wrote the opening number and of course started the standing ovation.

by Anonymousreply 124June 13, 2022 12:13 AM

Did I hear correctly: "Best survivor of a musical?"

by Anonymousreply 125June 13, 2022 12:13 AM

Michael Oberholtzer looked upset/pissed/sad.

by Anonymousreply 126June 13, 2022 12:13 AM

God, I hate JTF so much.

by Anonymousreply 127June 13, 2022 12:14 AM

"It's not just for gays anymore! It's for liberal intellectuals though that group is only Jews and homosexuals!"

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 128June 13, 2022 12:14 AM

I need to take a monster shit

by Anonymousreply 129June 13, 2022 12:14 AM

That was a scary closeup on Hugh!

by Anonymousreply 130June 13, 2022 12:14 AM

Jesus Hugh looks old

by Anonymousreply 131June 13, 2022 12:14 AM

Hugh Jackman. Whoa! How far can you pull back?

by Anonymousreply 132June 13, 2022 12:14 AM

Tony voters love to play sychophantic to their tv-series "betters." They love feeling inferior and giving TV hacks like JTF awards.

by Anonymousreply 133June 13, 2022 12:14 AM

I thought the SIX team wrote the opening number.

by Anonymousreply 134June 13, 2022 12:14 AM

Peter Allen looks sickly

by Anonymousreply 135June 13, 2022 12:14 AM

Jackman looks horrible

by Anonymousreply 136June 13, 2022 12:14 AM

[quote] I need to take a monster shit

In JTF's mouth, I hope.

by Anonymousreply 137June 13, 2022 12:15 AM

Did that filthy filthy ginger thank the other guys from his cast who were nominated? I didn’t hear it.

by Anonymousreply 138June 13, 2022 12:15 AM

Cruise ship or Vegas schlock. Take your pick.

by Anonymousreply 139June 13, 2022 12:15 AM

Bring back Lunt and Fontanne!

by Anonymousreply 140June 13, 2022 12:16 AM

This is the guy you wanted to open the show instead?

He sucks.

by Anonymousreply 141June 13, 2022 12:16 AM

I'm happy for JTF. Three actors from the same play? Is Take Me Out worth seeing (not for the thrill of nudity on stage)?

by Anonymousreply 142June 13, 2022 12:16 AM

I thinks i saw Jack Haley and Alice Faye do this same tap routine in some Shirley Temple movie.

by Anonymousreply 143June 13, 2022 12:16 AM

This Music Man bit isn't good either. Very middle school.

by Anonymousreply 144June 13, 2022 12:17 AM

Look at that dancing fag.

by Anonymousreply 145June 13, 2022 12:17 AM

Somebody show those geriatric white people to the stage door.

by Anonymousreply 146June 13, 2022 12:17 AM

Fuck... close up is not kind to Hugh this year

by Anonymousreply 147June 13, 2022 12:17 AM

r142, the fact that you didn't see Take Me Out explains how you can be happy for JTF.

by Anonymousreply 148June 13, 2022 12:17 AM

This is awful, but I've never been a big Music Man fan.

by Anonymousreply 149June 13, 2022 12:18 AM

R142 Too late. I think yesterday was the closing show.

by Anonymousreply 150June 13, 2022 12:18 AM

That wasn't THE MUSIC MAN. It was something, but not THE MUSIC MAN.

by Anonymousreply 151June 13, 2022 12:19 AM

I loved Girl from the North Country. It was soulful and the acting was superb. The audience immediately jumped to its feet for a standing ovation.

by Anonymousreply 152June 13, 2022 12:20 AM

Robert Preston would roll over.

by Anonymousreply 153June 13, 2022 12:20 AM

HIV meds commercials during the Tonys. Hmmm.

by Anonymousreply 154June 13, 2022 12:20 AM

Not ready for a close up. Not. Ready.

by Anonymousreply 155June 13, 2022 12:20 AM

Why are all these award shows turning into the BET Awards?

by Anonymousreply 156June 13, 2022 12:21 AM

That extreme close up did Jackman no favors. Where's Lucy's Mame filter when you need it?

by Anonymousreply 157June 13, 2022 12:21 AM

Jeremy Pope is a mediocrity. And definitely not hot looking enough for his role in Ryan Murphy’s Hollywood. Jesse Williams should have played that role.

by Anonymousreply 158June 13, 2022 12:21 AM

[quote] HIV meds commercials during the Tonys.

They know their audience

by Anonymousreply 159June 13, 2022 12:21 AM

R152, I'm happy to read that. I'm going to see it on Tuesday. Thank you.

by Anonymousreply 160June 13, 2022 12:21 AM

I loved Girl from the North Country, too R152 and R160 — and my expectations were pretty low.

by Anonymousreply 161June 13, 2022 12:24 AM

Is our dear dyke host going to talk with that inflection all night?

by Anonymousreply 162June 13, 2022 12:24 AM

Is Tony Awards night a mini circuit event? LOTS of hooking up and some sex parties? I would expect that of every awards show night.

by Anonymousreply 163June 13, 2022 12:24 AM

PATTI!!!!

by Anonymousreply 164June 13, 2022 12:24 AM

Which one is trans? Patti?

by Anonymousreply 165June 13, 2022 12:24 AM

PATTI !!!

by Anonymousreply 166June 13, 2022 12:25 AM

Being Alive

by Anonymousreply 167June 13, 2022 12:25 AM

Pats, Pats, Pats!

by Anonymousreply 168June 13, 2022 12:25 AM

#TonysSoWhite

by Anonymousreply 169June 13, 2022 12:25 AM

Patti in a peplum!

by Anonymousreply 170June 13, 2022 12:25 AM

WHET Tommy Tune?

Now I know.

by Anonymousreply 171June 13, 2022 12:26 AM

Who was the hot young guy next to her husband?

by Anonymousreply 172June 13, 2022 12:26 AM

Glad Patti won

by Anonymousreply 173June 13, 2022 12:26 AM

But I was told on the theatre threads that Patti is too hated in the Broadway community to win!

by Anonymousreply 174June 13, 2022 12:26 AM

Patti deserves EVERYTHING.

by Anonymousreply 175June 13, 2022 12:26 AM

Well-deserved award for Patti.

by Anonymousreply 176June 13, 2022 12:26 AM

Someone said earlier that I could be happy for JTF because I haven't seen Take Me Out. I haven't seen anything this year. So I'm happy for everyone who wins.

Patti going full breathless drama.

by Anonymousreply 177June 13, 2022 12:27 AM

Hwr fuckable son, R171.

by Anonymousreply 178June 13, 2022 12:27 AM

Everybody gets a trophy tonight!

by Anonymousreply 179June 13, 2022 12:27 AM

Sorry, that was for R172.

by Anonymousreply 180June 13, 2022 12:27 AM

NO mention of SS from Patti??

by Anonymousreply 181June 13, 2022 12:27 AM

Patti is great.

Jackson's son is fug.

by Anonymousreply 182June 13, 2022 12:27 AM

Sorry, I can't get over the idea that MJ was a child molester. Is that part of the story?

by Anonymousreply 183June 13, 2022 12:27 AM

Anyone who voted for JTF did not see him in Take Me Out.

by Anonymousreply 184June 13, 2022 12:28 AM

Look at her tattoos

by Anonymousreply 185June 13, 2022 12:28 AM

Give Patti an award for that speech.

by Anonymousreply 186June 13, 2022 12:28 AM

There's no way those are Michael Jackson's kids!

by Anonymousreply 187June 13, 2022 12:28 AM

This is the only Tony thread I care about. Something tells me that the Broadway world thread is oh so geeky and annoying.

by Anonymousreply 188June 13, 2022 12:28 AM

Thinking the same thing, R183.

by Anonymousreply 189June 13, 2022 12:28 AM

That's an acceptance speech. Lol. Totally fits the actor.

by Anonymousreply 190June 13, 2022 12:28 AM

The Jackson daughter looks like she stepped out of Game of Thrones.

by Anonymousreply 191June 13, 2022 12:29 AM

[quote]God, I hate JTF so much.

Living your life, huh?

by Anonymousreply 192June 13, 2022 12:29 AM

Seriously?

Okay, I had no idea about this MJ play. His son should have presented alone - he has good energy unlike Paris.

by Anonymousreply 193June 13, 2022 12:29 AM

Now I miss Michael Jackson.

by Anonymousreply 194June 13, 2022 12:29 AM

R157, Indeed. Hugh as aged tremendously.

by Anonymousreply 195June 13, 2022 12:30 AM

This Jackson routine is almost as campy as DIANA The Musical.

by Anonymousreply 196June 13, 2022 12:30 AM

[quote]Anyone who voted for JTF did not see him in Take Me Out.

Because no one could disagree with your opinion?

by Anonymousreply 197June 13, 2022 12:30 AM

Who in their right mind would go see this Michael Jackson shit?

by Anonymousreply 198June 13, 2022 12:30 AM

[quote] Give Patti an award for that speech.

Maybe she could win a Daytime Emmy for it to get her close to an EGOT.

by Anonymousreply 199June 13, 2022 12:30 AM

Poor Hugh. I don't think I wanna suck him anymore.

by Anonymousreply 200June 13, 2022 12:31 AM

Hugh is 53 but looks 73. Sad.

by Anonymousreply 201June 13, 2022 12:31 AM

I sound more like MJ when I sing in the shower.

by Anonymousreply 202June 13, 2022 12:31 AM

Smooth Criminal? I'll say!

by Anonymousreply 203June 13, 2022 12:31 AM

Does the show MJ deal with the molestation at all?

by Anonymousreply 204June 13, 2022 12:31 AM

one of the white dancers in the MJ performance is hot

by Anonymousreply 205June 13, 2022 12:31 AM

I LOVED MJ's music (well, up through Dangerous), but I never took to him personally - and not because of all the later stuff. He just seemed distant and almost too big of celeb.

by Anonymousreply 206June 13, 2022 12:32 AM

Is anyone in the MJ performance actually singing? Sounded like all backing track.

by Anonymousreply 207June 13, 2022 12:32 AM

We’re inclusive! We’re liberal!”

Then a number from a musical about a pedophile.

#TonyAwards2022

by Anonymousreply 208June 13, 2022 12:33 AM

They're inclusive of pedophiles - that's high level inclusiveness.

by Anonymousreply 209June 13, 2022 12:34 AM

Australians look great when they're young. Like the women, men's skin turns leathery when they're still young due to early childhood sun exposure.

by Anonymousreply 210June 13, 2022 12:34 AM

Have they revoked Ariana's Oscar yet?

by Anonymousreply 211June 13, 2022 12:34 AM

"We’re inclusive! We’re liberal!”

Then a number from a musical about a pedophile.

#TonyAwards2022"

We don't see the problem.

by Anonymousreply 212June 13, 2022 12:35 AM

If only Diana The Musical was nominated, then Mehgan Markel would make an appearance, like MJ;s kids

by Anonymousreply 213June 13, 2022 12:35 AM

[quote] If only Diana The Musical was nominated,

The fuck you mean "IF," bitch?

by Anonymousreply 214June 13, 2022 12:36 AM

MJ! I guess next year we'll have The Duggar Family Musical.

by Anonymousreply 215June 13, 2022 12:36 AM

I can’t believe they rewarded a gross elderly ginger with a murdering husband and denied that beautiful Jesse Williams and his big thick cock. Remember how he shook that cock directly at the camera in the “leaked” footage. Gave us all a gift.

Robbery.

by Anonymousreply 216June 13, 2022 12:37 AM

The MJ musical completely ignores that he was a pedophile. .

by Anonymousreply 217June 13, 2022 12:37 AM

Am I the only one who likes Ari ... *ducks*

by Anonymousreply 218June 13, 2022 12:37 AM

My love of the Jackson 5 and so many Michael Jackson solo hits was pure, true and made me deliriously happy.

I hate it that that's gone from my life forever.

by Anonymousreply 219June 13, 2022 12:37 AM

Don't give people ideas, r115.

by Anonymousreply 220June 13, 2022 12:37 AM

Dean Winters is hot.

by Anonymousreply 221June 13, 2022 12:37 AM

Thank you, R212. I was just about to post the same thing. The Academy handed a Best Director Oscar to Roman Polanski in 2003, so this is clearly not the first time sexual predators have been recognized at award shows. And at least in this case, these awards are going to the people who just worked on the show, not to the predator himself unlike with Polanski.

by Anonymousreply 222June 13, 2022 12:37 AM

Also, MJ takes place in 1992, long after Michael stopped looking black.

by Anonymousreply 223June 13, 2022 12:38 AM

Diana the Musical is DEAD TO ME.

by Anonymousreply 226June 13, 2022 12:40 AM

Josh Lucas has beautiful eyes

by Anonymousreply 227June 13, 2022 12:42 AM

All the winners so far have been predictable.

by Anonymousreply 228June 13, 2022 12:42 AM

that dress is very evil stepsisters "Cinderella" 1965, with Leslie Anne Warren.

And so is this one on Marianne Elliot

by Anonymousreply 229June 13, 2022 12:42 AM

Does Josh Lukas have gay voice? Is he a friend of Dorothy?

by Anonymousreply 230June 13, 2022 12:42 AM

Josh Lucas always sounds like that.

by Anonymousreply 231June 13, 2022 12:42 AM

Yes, he definitely does have gay voice, especially carrying on about Paulsen's dress.

by Anonymousreply 232June 13, 2022 12:43 AM

I think Josh Lucas has a pleasant gay voice.

by Anonymousreply 233June 13, 2022 12:43 AM

This awards show sounds like a woke-festival

unfortunately the nominees who are trans, lost

by Anonymousreply 234June 13, 2022 12:43 AM

R230, He's a definite pussy hound.

Gold dress is a bore.

by Anonymousreply 237June 13, 2022 12:44 AM

You mean fortunately

by Anonymousreply 238June 13, 2022 12:45 AM

Josh Lucas is a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF to raise awareness about AIDS in developing countries

by Anonymousreply 239June 13, 2022 12:45 AM

Love Shoshana Bean. She was great in Waitress.

by Anonymousreply 240June 13, 2022 12:45 AM

"Robert Preston would roll over."

So would Hugh, given half a chance .

by Anonymousreply 241June 13, 2022 12:45 AM

Beautiful, r208 and r209!

George Firth waves from the Great Beyond: MY play, REMEMBER?

by Anonymousreply 242June 13, 2022 12:45 AM

Soshana can't sing. Waaa?

by Anonymousreply 243June 13, 2022 12:45 AM

Sarah Silverman is dressed like a hooker in 1969. Or Streisand at the Oscars.

by Anonymousreply 244June 13, 2022 12:46 AM

Why is Sarah Silverman there?

by Anonymousreply 245June 13, 2022 12:46 AM

Sorry, FURTH. That darn keyboard!

by Anonymousreply 246June 13, 2022 12:46 AM

by Anonymousreply 247June 13, 2022 12:46 AM

by Anonymousreply 251June 13, 2022 12:47 AM

by Anonymousreply 252June 13, 2022 12:47 AM

This is painful

by Anonymousreply 253June 13, 2022 12:47 AM

Sitting thru this Billy Crystal show would be hell.

by Anonymousreply 254June 13, 2022 12:48 AM

I can't believe that ginger Muppet won that Tony.

by Anonymousreply 255June 13, 2022 12:48 AM

So far all the winners have been mostly white and for shows that aren't particularly "woke," yet there are some people on here still screeching about how WOKE these awards are. You people really are unhinged.

by Anonymousreply 256June 13, 2022 12:48 AM

Is Mr. Saturday Night trying to keep people from attending?

by Anonymousreply 257June 13, 2022 12:48 AM

The sound you hear are remotes changing channels across the globe.

by Anonymousreply 258June 13, 2022 12:49 AM

"The ratings are going to be dreadful. "

I think that would be the case no matter the plays/actors/musicals being awarded or how they produced the show. Declining awards show viewership isn't a blip.

by Anonymousreply 259June 13, 2022 12:49 AM

Andrew Garfield brought a male date with him.

by Anonymousreply 260June 13, 2022 12:49 AM

by Anonymousreply 269June 13, 2022 12:51 AM

by Anonymousreply 270June 13, 2022 12:51 AM

by Anonymousreply 283June 13, 2022 12:55 AM

by Anonymousreply 285June 13, 2022 12:55 AM

Daffy Duck - ha!!

by Anonymousreply 286June 13, 2022 12:56 AM

I hope so

by Anonymousreply 287June 13, 2022 12:56 AM

Where's Will Smith when we need him?

by Anonymousreply 288June 13, 2022 12:56 AM

I get the vibe that there's genuine joy and happiness at awards show, but there's underlying bitterness and resentment. That's probably the least hot of hot takes.

by Anonymousreply 289June 13, 2022 12:56 AM

She said "Bob Flosse."

by Anonymousreply 290June 13, 2022 12:57 AM

Yes, duBose is bad. Trying oh so hard.

by Anonymousreply 292June 13, 2022 12:57 AM

why, r274? So they can base awards on gender and race?

by Anonymousreply 293June 13, 2022 12:57 AM

Marcia Gay Harden looks tremendous.

I want the number of her face-tightener.

by Anonymousreply 294June 13, 2022 12:57 AM

by Anonymousreply 302June 13, 2022 12:58 AM

by Anonymousreply 306June 13, 2022 12:58 AM

by Anonymousreply 334June 13, 2022 1:02 AM

I'd forgotten how tedious Company is.

by Anonymousreply 335June 13, 2022 1:03 AM

No, it was that they couldn't stomach giving it to anyone from POTUS

by Anonymousreply 339June 13, 2022 1:03 AM

Who is the long haired dude with the slutty Vneck and chest tattoo in Company? I want him in me deeply.

by Anonymousreply 340June 13, 2022 1:04 AM

So nice of Patina Miller to dress as Neely O'Hara and give the DL an indirect shout out.

by Anonymousreply 341June 13, 2022 1:04 AM

Company has gotta win. It is old school nostalgia.

by Anonymousreply 342June 13, 2022 1:04 AM

r336, according to Wikipedia she graduated from college in 1997, so...most likely she's a decade older than the character.

by Anonymousreply 343June 13, 2022 1:04 AM

This title song is too low-energy

R327, FUN FACT

Sidney DuPont talks publicly for the first time about his inability to hear in one ear, telling PEOPLE that starring in Broadway's Paradise Square has been a “gift”

by Anonymousreply 347June 13, 2022 1:05 AM

Something off on the COMPANY orchestrations. I've avoided seeing this for a reason, I guess.

by Anonymousreply 348June 13, 2022 1:05 AM

by Anonymousreply 356June 13, 2022 1:08 AM

While this awards show seems to be a woke-festival

The voters have said otherwise with their votes - snubbing trans & black nominees, and awarding mostly white actors (with the exception so far of Phylicia Rashad)

by Anonymousreply 357June 13, 2022 1:08 AM

Was there no one the appropriate age to play Bobbie cause that lady looks ancient.

by Anonymousreply 358June 13, 2022 1:08 AM

To be fair, R356, I'm sure she has told it to plenty of men as well even though that particular time it was indeed a woman.

by Anonymousreply 359June 13, 2022 1:09 AM

Supposedly they wanted Anne Hathaway, which would have been good, but she couldn't do it. Benanti turned it down. If a bigger name had been available, they surely would have taken it.

by Anonymousreply 360June 13, 2022 1:09 AM

And thank god for that r357 white people have historically been underappreciated.

by Anonymousreply 367June 13, 2022 1:11 AM

R363, Is thar Matt Bomer?

by Anonymousreply 368June 13, 2022 1:12 AM

Isabelle Stevenson, come back, all is forgiven...

by Anonymousreply 369June 13, 2022 1:12 AM

r364, did he really want her, or did he want her out of who was available?

(I believe what kept Hathaway out was pregnancy. Her second kid was born in the fall of 2019 when they were starting rehearsals.)

by Anonymousreply 370June 13, 2022 1:12 AM

They really need NPH to host again.

by Anonymousreply 371June 13, 2022 1:13 AM

I like Latonya's outfit.

by Anonymousreply 372June 13, 2022 1:13 AM

Look how JTF accidentally wound up behind the mike like that.

by Anonymousreply 373June 13, 2022 1:14 AM

For R368 who should check his eyesight -- it's Jordan Roth

by Anonymousreply 374June 13, 2022 1:14 AM

Thank you, Jesse Williams!

by Anonymousreply 375June 13, 2022 1:14 AM

And he looks like SHIT. Whoever told him he should get fillers hates him.

by Anonymousreply 376June 13, 2022 1:14 AM

That time he allegedly was r69.

Skylar Astin looks good here compared to Darren Criss who looks a mess.

by Anonymousreply 377June 13, 2022 1:15 AM

Take It Out, I mean, Take Me Out for the win.

by Anonymousreply 378June 13, 2022 1:15 AM

Is there a role I can take away from a winner for a film?

by Anonymousreply 379June 13, 2022 1:15 AM

Anthony Edwards looks old.

by Anonymousreply 380June 13, 2022 1:16 AM

I hated the opening, but I’m really enjoying the rest.

by Anonymousreply 381June 13, 2022 1:17 AM

Anthony Edwards looks great.

by Anonymousreply 382June 13, 2022 1:17 AM

In terms of the poster who is still outraged Jesse Tyler Ferguson won

He won for playing the same role Denis O'Hare won the Tony Award for - so they both won for playing the same role 20 years apart

Maybe it is the role that garners the acclaim for whatever actor plays it. for

by Anonymousreply 383June 13, 2022 1:17 AM

Okay, this number is not good. Her voice is very aggravating. She shouldn't try and mimic Dylan's vocals.

by Anonymousreply 384June 13, 2022 1:18 AM

WTF am I watching.

by Anonymousreply 385June 13, 2022 1:18 AM

r380....he IS old

by Anonymousreply 386June 13, 2022 1:18 AM

NO, R371.

NO they do not.

by Anonymousreply 387June 13, 2022 1:18 AM

Has an entire bootleg recording of this production 'Take Me Out To The Big Sclongs' hit the interwebs yet? If not tonight would be a good day to hit the send button.

by Anonymousreply 388June 13, 2022 1:18 AM

Is it fair to say only Bob Dylan should sing Bob Dylan?

by Anonymousreply 389June 13, 2022 1:18 AM

Love Mare Winningham -- so underappreciated. And how did I not know she and Anthony Edwards were married?

by Anonymousreply 390June 13, 2022 1:18 AM

[quote]—M.

Can you play a chubby effeminate black man, M? Some people are saying you can’t, but I think you should very publicly lobby for the role. I believe in you!

by Anonymousreply 391June 13, 2022 1:18 AM

Oh dear. I'm so embarrassed for Mare Winingham.

by Anonymousreply 392June 13, 2022 1:19 AM

No, R383. They just love to award hack TV stars.

by Anonymousreply 393June 13, 2022 1:19 AM

I have always liked Mare Winningham. She does a lovely version of Forever Young in this show.

by Anonymousreply 394June 13, 2022 1:19 AM

Oh, my ears!

by Anonymousreply 395June 13, 2022 1:19 AM

She makes Courtney Love seem like Adele

by Anonymousreply 396June 13, 2022 1:19 AM

Andrew McCarthy wrote in his book, he was desperately in love with Mare Winningham during the filming of St, Elmo's Fire

But alas she was married and pregnant during the filming

by Anonymousreply 397June 13, 2022 1:19 AM

Mare looks like a scarecrow.

by Anonymousreply 398June 13, 2022 1:19 AM

Another musical wants to stop people from attending.

by Anonymousreply 399June 13, 2022 1:20 AM

by Anonymousreply 400June 13, 2022 1:20 AM

Denis O'Hare wasn't a TV star when he won the Tony for playing the same role JTF is playing now

by Anonymousreply 401June 13, 2022 1:20 AM

Soup to nuts, dreadful.

by Anonymousreply 402June 13, 2022 1:20 AM

If this is what's offered on Broadway, I'm not missing much out here in Flyoverstan.

I saw "An American in Paris" during its Broadway run. It was amazing, just thrilling.

None of this is in the same league.

by Anonymousreply 403June 13, 2022 1:20 AM

You beat me to it, r398!

by Anonymousreply 407June 13, 2022 1:22 AM

He's also not a hack, R401.

by Anonymousreply 408June 13, 2022 1:22 AM

I'm no JTF fan but how exactly is he a "hack" TV star? His sitcom only left the air two years ago.

by Anonymousreply 409June 13, 2022 1:22 AM

Denis O'Hare became a hack. You can thank Ryan Murphy for that.

by Anonymousreply 410June 13, 2022 1:23 AM

R403, I'm going to visit my aunt in a flyover part of Canada and we're going to see a regional theatre production. I've been before and everything I've ever seen there is better than tonight's performances.

by Anonymousreply 411June 13, 2022 1:23 AM

Not sure what that has to do with anything, R409.

by Anonymousreply 412June 13, 2022 1:23 AM

[quote]Is it fair to say only Bob Dylan should sing Bob Dylan?

Not for me. I think his songs are genius but are almost always better interpreted by other artists.

by Anonymousreply 413June 13, 2022 1:23 AM

[quote] I'm no JTF fan but how exactly is he a "hack" TV star? His sitcom only left the air two years ago.

Sweetie, I'm not sure you understand the meaning of the word. Trot along and look it up.

by Anonymousreply 414June 13, 2022 1:24 AM

Yeah if AN AMERICAN IN PARIS is your high bar r403 then you are no authority.

Oh, my God...

by Anonymousreply 417June 13, 2022 1:24 AM

This bitch host is truly an abomination.

by Anonymousreply 418June 13, 2022 1:25 AM

Garfield will submit this as an Emmy bid for best featured actor.

by Anonymousreply 419June 13, 2022 1:25 AM

In the wide shots of the auditorium it looks like there's barely anyone in the topmost balcony. Didn't the Tonys used to be such a sought after ticket they were nearly impossible to get?

by Anonymousreply 420June 13, 2022 1:26 AM

Of course not, R416. What does that have to do with anything?

by Anonymousreply 421June 13, 2022 1:26 AM

Garfield's bashfulness is the best part of this.

by Anonymousreply 422June 13, 2022 1:26 AM

Is that Andrew Garfield? He looked embarrassed.

by Anonymousreply 423June 13, 2022 1:26 AM

Stop fucking looking at the monitor, Espadrille.

by Anonymousreply 424June 13, 2022 1:26 AM

by Anonymousreply 428June 13, 2022 1:27 AM

Andrew sexually harassed, now really.

by Anonymousreply 429June 13, 2022 1:27 AM

Pocket gay Matt Doyle for the win! <3

by Anonymousreply 430June 13, 2022 1:27 AM

Is Zac Posen getting Andrew Garfield's cock tonight?

by Anonymousreply 431June 13, 2022 1:27 AM

I loved the opening and hated the rest.

by Anonymousreply 432June 13, 2022 1:27 AM

Raul and his bisexual cock shooting copious creamy ropes of cum!

by Anonymousreply 433June 13, 2022 1:28 AM

R421 then you can't say Tony Voters awarded Denis O'Hare a Tony Award because they thought he'd be a hack

It doesn't work that way

by Anonymousreply 434June 13, 2022 1:28 AM

These two look good.

by Anonymousreply 438June 13, 2022 1:28 AM

Strange that a show DL’s theatre queens hate keeps winning.

by Anonymousreply 439June 13, 2022 1:28 AM

I bow to your deeper, more rarefied tastes, r407 and r415, but this hay shaker was entertained as all get out by AAIP.

by Anonymousreply 440June 13, 2022 1:28 AM

People in the balcony were still going to be required to wear masks. Maybe people didn't want to deal with the weird two-class system (tests and no masks for audience in the orchestra; masks and no tests for people in the mezz and balcony).

by Anonymousreply 441June 13, 2022 1:29 AM

R414, I looked it up and there was your picture right next to it. Imagine that!

by Anonymousreply 442June 13, 2022 1:29 AM

Another white guy beats three Black guys in his category

again the telecast is Woke Festival - but Tony Voters are saying otherwise - with their vote

No one said that, dear. You cooked that up in your fevered little brain. I said he didn't become a hack until after American Horror Story. He was fine in Take Me Out and deserved the Tony.

Christ, some people.

by Anonymousreply 448June 13, 2022 1:30 AM

The balcony is full of Monkeypox.

by Anonymousreply 452June 13, 2022 1:31 AM

"Another white guy beats three Black guys in his category again the telecast is Woke Festival - but Tony Voters are saying otherwise - with their vote"

So any non-white noms/wins can only be due to "wokeness?".

by Anonymousreply 453June 13, 2022 1:31 AM

I LOVE Bernadette.

by Anonymousreply 454June 13, 2022 1:31 AM

Bernadette finally started to age.

by Anonymousreply 455June 13, 2022 1:31 AM

Elegant Bernadette.

by Anonymousreply 456June 13, 2022 1:31 AM

So Matt Doyle is no longer available as a personal trainer, then?

by Anonymousreply 457June 13, 2022 1:32 AM

I don't think Sondheim would have liked this arrangement of "Children Will Listen."

by Anonymousreply 458June 13, 2022 1:32 AM

r453, that's exactly what he's saying. That poster really is showing his whole ass tonight.

[quote] Bernadette finally started to age.

Oh dear.....that key is NOT Bernadette's friend. She's got NO mix left.

by Anonymousreply 461June 13, 2022 1:33 AM

Bernadette singing Sondheim makes up for having to sit through the dreck that is this year’s Tony Awards.

by Anonymousreply 462June 13, 2022 1:33 AM

All the armature and fly strings from Spiderman Turn Off The Dark is being re-used to hold up Bernadette's face tonight.

by Anonymousreply 463June 13, 2022 1:33 AM

So basically nobody can sing here tonight, right? My Lord!

by Anonymousreply 464June 13, 2022 1:33 AM

Finally. The elegance of Broadway makes an appearance.

by Anonymousreply 465June 13, 2022 1:33 AM

Wow, Peters has a great neck, shoulders and rack.

by Anonymousreply 466June 13, 2022 1:33 AM

Random: She is truly awful; just unequipped as a host. So much talent, and yet this is all they can get?

Peters is the real thing.

Doyle is a joke.

Rashad obnoxious as always.

by Anonymousreply 467June 13, 2022 1:33 AM

R448 your exact words were

[quote] They just love to award hack TV stars.

and Denis O'Hare WAS NOT a TV star when he won

Get your facts straight

by Anonymousreply 468June 13, 2022 1:33 AM

She was off key, but she's old and still elegant, R464.

by Anonymousreply 469June 13, 2022 1:33 AM

That was a rather underwhelming tribute.

by Anonymousreply 470June 13, 2022 1:34 AM

Is Bernadette well regarded on Broadway?

by Anonymousreply 471June 13, 2022 1:34 AM

Why are you calling Matt Doyle's win a blow against "wokeness?" Everyone and their mother predicted his win. He was one of the surest things for the evening. It's not like the voters decided to send a message by choosing him.

by Anonymousreply 472June 13, 2022 1:34 AM

Not the strongest vocally, but glad she did it.

by Anonymousreply 473June 13, 2022 1:34 AM

r465 Class and talent

by Anonymousreply 474June 13, 2022 1:34 AM

The Ferguson and Doyle wins can go right next to the Tveit one from last year. A lot of mediocrity being rewarded of late.

by Anonymousreply 475June 13, 2022 1:35 AM

That was lovely. Just perfect to have had Bernadette alone and not a mish-mash of people singing a bunch of stuff. Just the right note.

by Anonymousreply 476June 13, 2022 1:35 AM

Matt Doyle having a Tony before Raul Esparza is truly a sign of the end times.

by Anonymousreply 477June 13, 2022 1:35 AM

Did y'all notice Rashad didn't even deign to TOUCH the award, even as she was walking backstage?

by Anonymousreply 478June 13, 2022 1:35 AM

That’s all they have for Sondheim? One song??

by Anonymousreply 483June 13, 2022 1:36 AM

r480, not really. Mostly noted as the best part of a bad production. Doyle won all the early awards.

by Anonymousreply 492June 13, 2022 1:38 AM

I want to see Andrew Garfield naked. That is all.

by Anonymousreply 493June 13, 2022 1:38 AM

They need to leave time for Ariana DeBose to work the audience again and/or remind us that she won an Academy Award R479.

by Anonymousreply 494June 13, 2022 1:38 AM

“Children Will Listen” and “No One Is Alone” are both utter lies but “Someone in a Tree” is a masterpiece so I forgive Steve.

And they were undeserved, IMO. Charmless, in a word.

Audra is a proper star, elegant and talented.

by Anonymousreply 503June 13, 2022 1:41 AM

Yet another musical that evidently wants to stop an audience from attending.

by Anonymousreply 540June 13, 2022 1:50 AM

Where’s Evan Todd?

by Anonymousreply 541June 13, 2022 1:50 AM

A Strange Loop is Rent part 2?

by Anonymousreply 542June 13, 2022 1:50 AM

This is the show everyone’s making a big deal about?

by Anonymousreply 543June 13, 2022 1:50 AM

Why is Company hated so much?

by Anonymousreply 544June 13, 2022 1:50 AM

Strange Loops seems like a Gay Black version of Company

Down to the soundtrack

by Anonymousreply 545June 13, 2022 1:51 AM

Strange Loop=God Awful!

by Anonymousreply 546June 13, 2022 1:51 AM

How many people will get Covid tomorrow from tonight's super spreader event?

by Anonymousreply 547June 13, 2022 1:51 AM

"No One Is Alone is not a lie. You are insane."

Reach out to me when you're on your deathbed and we'll talk.

by Anonymousreply 548June 13, 2022 1:52 AM

Oh wow. This is bad. I don't need to see Strange Loop or Company. But in all fairness, I'm watching snippets. Did anyone here see either of these productions? Were they good in full.

by Anonymousreply 549June 13, 2022 1:52 AM

SOUNDTRACK?!

by Anonymousreply 550June 13, 2022 1:52 AM

The Music Man revival isn't terrible. It even has a few moments. But it's just over all disappointing and undistinguished. I've seen more involving productions in summer stock.

by Anonymousreply 551June 13, 2022 1:52 AM

A Strange Loop was awful!

by Anonymousreply 552June 13, 2022 1:52 AM

I enjoyed Company even though it didn’t really work. It should have been set in 970 not updated.

by Anonymousreply 553June 13, 2022 1:52 AM

Let's face it - this telecast is a trainwreck

There is not a single poster here who is raving about this telecast.

Appalling considering this is the 75th anniversary - you;d think they would more thought and care in the 75th anniversary show

by Anonymousreply 554June 13, 2022 1:53 AM

Which peformance did you like better tonight - "Bobby Bobby Bobby Bobby Bobby Bobby Bobby" or "Usher Usher Usher Usher Usher Usher Usher?"

by Anonymousreply 555June 13, 2022 1:53 AM

1970 not 970!!!

by Anonymousreply 556June 13, 2022 1:53 AM

Welcome to the 4th Annual White Guilt TONY Awards!

by Anonymousreply 557June 13, 2022 1:54 AM

Literally only watching this shitshow for the Spring Awakening reunion.

by Anonymousreply 558June 13, 2022 1:54 AM

Any naked BBC in A Strange Loop?

by Anonymousreply 559June 13, 2022 1:54 AM

By the way, with ASL - was it ever determined what the one word was that so offended the NY Post (I think) reviewer? He said something like he hopes we never hear that word on Broadway again

by Anonymousreply 560June 13, 2022 1:54 AM

Wow, the number from A Strange Loop was derivative and pretentious as hell. And will sell zero tickets,

by Anonymousreply 561June 13, 2022 1:54 AM

I don't necessarily agree Company shouldn't have been updated, but I'll agree with 553 otherwise. It was very entertaining--I saw it three times--even if it didn't entirely work (some elements of the gender switch simply didn't work).

by Anonymousreply 562June 13, 2022 1:54 AM

A 970 Company would be fascinating.

by Anonymousreply 563June 13, 2022 1:54 AM

Company is absolutely worth seeing, despite some flaws. Better see it soon. Patti is departing and then…

by Anonymousreply 564June 13, 2022 1:54 AM

RuPaul's "facial expressions" don't work without the tons of makeup.

by Anonymousreply 565June 13, 2022 1:55 AM

R549, I saw the Off-Broadway production of "A Strange Loop" back in 2019 and enjoyed it quite a lot. There was one scene towards the end that just went on way too long but other than that, it was very good. Jaquel wasn't the star, though, it was the first guy to play the part.

by Anonymousreply 566June 13, 2022 1:55 AM

A Strange Loop is so derivative and so awful!

by Anonymousreply 567June 13, 2022 1:55 AM

I loved COMPANY, though saw it when Lenk was out. Nikki Renee Daniels was in for her and amazing.

ASL is not without its interesting moments, but it is also loaded with insulting takes as well. All in all, I was glad I saw it, but would never sit through it again.

by Anonymousreply 568June 13, 2022 1:55 AM

They should have sprung for a big name host considering it's the 75th anniversary.

by Anonymousreply 569June 13, 2022 1:55 AM

"970" Oh, I don't know, a Game of Thrones take on Company might be as interesting as what's on Broadway now.

by Anonymousreply 570June 13, 2022 1:56 AM

I hated A Strange Loop. It was fucking horrible and self indulgent. It felt like a first draft of a dramatic writing thesis.

by Anonymousreply 571June 13, 2022 1:56 AM

[quote]Why is Company hated so much?

Doesn’t seem to be hated by Tony voters.

Agreed on Nikki Renee Daniels (the reason I saw Company a 2nd and 3rd time). If she ever gets to go on again for Lenk, I'd recommend seeing it then.

by Anonymousreply 574June 13, 2022 1:57 AM

r554 you need to have a mind of your own and not count on the people in this thread who it seems just want to bitch and complain about everything.

by Anonymousreply 575June 13, 2022 1:57 AM

Be surprised if Loop wins, they always take in if it winner will make money touring, "Six" seems the best bet.

by Anonymousreply 576June 13, 2022 1:57 AM

I’ve seen many productions of Company, and this was the closest to how I see the piece. I’d love to see a sharp edged version set decisively in the 70s, but I doubt many others would. It certainly is far superior to both Broadway revivals.

by Anonymousreply 577June 13, 2022 1:57 AM

An Oscar win just ain't what it used to be, R569. Also, I'm so proud that we're going to need a second thread.

by Anonymousreply 578June 13, 2022 1:57 AM

[quote]It was very entertaining-

Root Canal is more entertaining.

by Anonymousreply 579June 13, 2022 1:58 AM

[quote] Be surprised if Loop wins, they always take in if it winner will make money touring

Ummm....

by Anonymousreply 580June 13, 2022 1:58 AM

Second thread here, R578.

If Rent was the beginning of the decline of the Broadway musical, it was Spring Awakening that helped to nail the coffin shut.

by Anonymousreply 582June 13, 2022 1:59 AM

You told us already

by Anonymousreply 583June 13, 2022 1:59 AM

DAFUQ Lea Michele her blackface!!!

WOW.

by Anonymousreply 584June 13, 2022 1:59 AM

This Asian guy is cute/handsome.

by Anonymousreply 585June 13, 2022 1:59 AM

Agree, R582.

by Anonymousreply 586June 13, 2022 2:00 AM

[quote] Be surprised if Loop wins, they always take in if it winner will make money touring Ummm.... Fosca's everchanging mole size

That was forty years ago. Times have changed.

by Anonymousreply 587June 13, 2022 2:00 AM

Leah was like "Get the fuck off stage now Zach, I'll take it from here."

by Anonymousreply 588June 13, 2022 2:00 AM

Wow, awful.

by Anonymousreply 589June 13, 2022 2:00 AM

Oh my god, Lea Michelle turned Black.

by Anonymousreply 590June 13, 2022 2:00 AM

The fuck is up with Lea Michelle? So much spray tan

by Anonymousreply 591June 13, 2022 2:01 AM

When did Zach Braff become middle aged Zach Braff. I know he is actually middle aged, I just haven't seen him in a while. Time flies.

by Anonymousreply 592June 13, 2022 2:01 AM

The sound mix on the Spring Awakening song is for shit. It's just as well, it's a forgettable song.

by Anonymousreply 593June 13, 2022 2:01 AM

These are the most convincing teenagers I've seen since the films of West side Story and Grease.

by Anonymousreply 594June 13, 2022 2:01 AM

Is the audio feed of the entire show being piped through some filter that makes everything sound off key?

by Anonymousreply 595June 13, 2022 2:01 AM

They really thought they were doing something with this "Spring Awakening".

by Anonymousreply 596June 13, 2022 2:02 AM

Remember the whatever-anniversary tribute to Rent a few years ago on the Tonys? It was about as good as this. And are we all clamoring to re-experience SPRING AWAKENING?

by Anonymousreply 597June 13, 2022 2:03 AM

[quote] you need to have a mind of your own and not count on the people in this thread who it seems just want to bitch and complain about everything.

Past telecasts of the Tony Awards have been nominated for the Emmy for "Outstanding Variety or Music Special" - and Tony Awards producers actually won the Emmy award in 1987 in that category

This telecast is a far cry from past Tony Awards presentations.

by Anonymousreply 598June 13, 2022 2:03 AM

R595 No, it's just marginal talent that's accepted as the norm on Broadway now.

by Anonymousreply 599June 13, 2022 2:03 AM

Bajour!

by Anonymousreply 600June 13, 2022 2:04 AM

Like JTF, R599. Hack.

by Anonymousreply 601June 13, 2022 2:04 AM

I thought Broadway was known for good singing and that it's very difficult to make it. I've seen high school kids from fly-over parts of Canada with more talent.

by Anonymousreply 602June 13, 2022 2:04 AM

They should have had Jessica Lange stomp across the stage and ignore Lea Michele again.

by Anonymousreply 603June 13, 2022 2:04 AM

The Glee girls tried to erase Leah and she wasn't having it.

by Anonymousreply 604June 13, 2022 2:04 AM

Just awful, and I regret having to say this> WHY? So much great talent, and we get this crap?

by Anonymousreply 605June 13, 2022 2:05 AM

[quote]They really thought they were doing something with this "Spring Awakening".

They were clearly the only ones, R596.

by Anonymousreply 606June 13, 2022 2:05 AM

[quote]Is the audio feed of the entire show being piped through some filter that makes everything sound off key?

There's something off about the sound mix, because every performer is making my ears bleed.

by Anonymousreply 607June 13, 2022 2:05 AM

Is Mike Doyle the one the Newly Negro Lea Michele showed her cooch to?

by Anonymousreply 608June 13, 2022 2:06 AM

OMG Lea Michele's gonna try to ooze her way into the A Strange Loop production.
