NPR publishes a defense of Disney adults
For some adults who love Disney, it's like a religion

Clap if you believe in fairies. Those guys would be first on their feet.

Imbecilic child-men.

DeSantis lost these freaks when he declared war on Disney. I hope he's happy 😂

R3 It's like losing the Bronie vote...who cares?

Since it's NPR, I read the article aloud in my best vocal-fry voice.

Trekkies and Star Wars geeks I kinda understand, but adult males into Disney....... what happened in their past?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | June 12, 2022 9:03 PM |
So they like Disney, big deal. It's really no one else's business. If they are happy and aren't harming anybody, then more power to them. Most of the detractors seem as if they have never had a happy day in their life.

These people weren't exposed to enough good art as kids.

I knew three grown women who were Disney fanatics (all co-workers). They were condescending, bitchy, passive-aggressive frauen, trying to hide behind a flimsy façade of wholesomeness.

I'm with R7. The thing is, I can't understand this at all, Disney art is almost instinctively repellent to me. But there are things I love too that I'm sure others wouldn't get, so as long as no one's hurting anyone, I don't care. I just don't get it either. Also, in real life, most people have a sense of humour about their obsessions too, which doesn't always come through when the media report on people like this.
Sometimes I feel it's so sad, the idea that becoming an adult means people are expected to lose that childlike side of themselves too. Life's pretty hard, get joy where you can, I say.

That's my feeling too.

The Disboards are gold if you wish to see them chatting among themselves, semi-anonymously.
During Covid, one of my entertainments was reading the entitled whining, as the parks were closed, and the cruises docked.

There is a huge crossover between Disneyland people and tiki people, mostly because there is a great tiki bar at the Disneyland Hotel and of course the Enchanted Tiki Room. I mainly go and wander around Disneyland to sober up, so I can drive home.
There are definitely some freaks, but plenty of gay men. And bonus, they aren't sour bitchy queens.

Because single adults are the only ones who can afford it.
Did you read the Bloomberg article about how it now costs between $8,500 to $10,000 for a family of four to spend a week at Disney? The company is nickel and dining customers to death with the Genie+ app fees...and saying that’s why they’ve had such strong performance. It doesn’t seem wise to base your success on the revenue from app fees everyone hates and doesn’t truly have to purchase.

Male adults obsessed with Disney are weird. Do they still ride tricycles and collect stickers too?

I resemble that remark, R14, which is fine, I leave Disney to the rest of you- I am off to Florence, the real one, not the Epcot kiosk.

R17, then you are a fool traveling during a COVID uptick.

I have friends who are in their late 50s and go there several times a year, and also watch all the Disney/Pixar films.
I have no issues with it but it is soooooo not my aesthetic.

As with any fetish it is only of interest to them and their fellow travelers.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | June 13, 2022 1:06 AM |
It may depend on where you live also. I'm 20 minutes away- a week vacation for $10k? Bob Chapek can shove that, a $15 churro and Genie+ up his fat ass.

OP- The two queens in your photo remind me so much of Buttigieg and Chasen- they are totally the types to LOVE that Disney drivel
by Anonymous | reply 25 | June 13, 2022 2:49 AM |
Its creepy to me. Indication that they have some sort of weird arrested development that they couldn't move on from their childhood.

Probably incest survivors trying to reclaim their stolen childhood

R18, Covid is over. Cope.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | June 13, 2022 3:12 AM |
My coworker is a Disneyland fanatic. Her son died unexpectedly at the age of 16. I think collecting Disney mugs and compulsively shopping are her coping mechanisms.
