He was showing that we put these vacuous imbeciles like Twiggy on a pedestal when they have absolutely nothing to contribute to our culture.

Or was he showing the power of a 32 year old self-proclaimed intellectual to scold a 17 year old who, I don't believe, ever held herself out as a great thinker?

He asked her a question meant to embarrass and she answered honestly that she didn't have a favorite philosopher. After answering, she turned the same question around to him. Instead of honesty, he danced around the question eventually saying, "well, all of them."

Who comes off badly?

r3 We now live in a culture of Twiggys and the Woody Allens of the world are few and far between.

Twiggy was culturally relevant in fashion. No one, absolutely no one, was asking Twiggy about philosophical questions, and there was no reason to try to humiliate her like this, because no one had been holding her up as a great thinker or the kind of intellect one should aspire to.

There is no such thing as culturally relevant models. Just ideas.

This clip reminds me of a line from Woody's movie Interiors where they are snarking about the vacuous younger sister Flynn who is a Hollywood starlet. "She suffers from the same problem my last book had: a perfect example of form and no content."

Who would ever have imagine that Woody Allan – of all people – would be a total condescending cunt to a 17 year old.

Reminded me a bit of an American reporter trying to embarrass Sarah Palin a few years ago. SP was asked what newspapers and magazines she read and it stumped SP. “Well all of them”. Wasn’t able to name any. But the reporter wouldn’t let go.

Unfortunately Sarah Palin wasn’t that sharp and quick and couldn’t come back with anything to counter.
