Lukas Gage Hits Back at LGBT+ Casting Criticism: 'You Don't Know My Alphabet'

I was just reading through all the White Lotus threads yesterday -- you bitches are funny and insightful -- and several posters there casually mentioned he was gay. You're telling me now that is not the case? Weird that someone his age would be closeted.

As an up-and-coming actor, I won't blame him for taking the roles that are available to him. If he were more established, then I'd find it weird.

Previously an actor who was assumed gay but not publicly out would be allowed to play all the gay or transgender roles he wanted without being asked about his sexuality or being allowed to brush off questions about it

That has changed extremely quickly, the most notable example being Lee Pace who was more or less forced to come out publicly after shutting down a question of his sexuality during a promotion for his role in Angels in America. Now actors in gay projects are expected to take ownership of their sexuality. I expect Lucas will when it comes time to promote his gay sex comedy Down Low which he wrote and stars in with Zachary Quinto, when he has to talk to the press. I don’t think he’s accountable to some rando on Twitter, but he will eventually have to come out if he doesn’t want a backlash when he promotes his movie.

He has been on Andy Cohen Live (Sirius) and Watch What Happens Live. On both shows, Lucas shamelessly flirted with Andy and all but asked him out. Andy was smitten and inferred there was subsequent contact and flirting. Not sure how Lucas is trying to now back peddle on his sexuality. He can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube after laying himself prostrate for Andy.

His appeal (such as it is) is a kind of blankness; he's good looking, but still passes for the kind of regular attractive guy hanging out at the coffee shop or the mall. He's no great thespian, but he's a reasonably talented utility player. I can see why he'd want to preserve that blankness so he'll continue to be cast since that appears to be his niche.
