Bell's palsy? I had a friend who had that, he was very immune compromised AIDS and very low t-cell count, circling the drain. Half of the face stays paralyzed for a very long time. Years. It does sometimes go away over time though. It's viral related and just seems to come out of nowhere.

Stroke
by Anonymous | reply 16 | June 10, 2022 8:39 PM |
I had Bell's Palsy ... 10 years ago?
I had a sore throat, and then the next day it happened. I didn't even really notice, but when I went to work, they noticed.
My boss freaked out (understandably I guess) and called an ambulance thinking I may have had a stroke.
It was not a stroke. Just a viral infection that irritates a nerve that runs from your neck up the side of your face. Half of my face was semi-paralyzed for about 1-2 months. It got better every day.
More of a scare than anything.

Shingles is on the rise among younger people. The pure fact is shingles is caused by immune stress and having 2 vaccines and 2 boosters, then having COVID multiple times over the last 2.5 years, coupled with the insane amount of stress of the world now is causing the uptick. Instead of trying to lie that there is no connection because a few laggard conspiracy theorists won’t get vaccinated for COVID is idiotic, these people should try to raise awareness of shingles and what to look out for.

by Anonymous | reply 109 | June 12, 2022 5:23 AM |
R94 Julie Andrews did not lose her voice due to having a stroke. A surgeon nicked her vocal cord during an operation and destroyed her voice. Andrews sued him.
The same surgeon destroyed the voice of opera singer Teresa Stratas during a botched operation. Teresa's injury was different than the one suffered by Julie. Teresa also sued the surgeon.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | June 12, 2022 5:42 AM |
Neither of those things are true R110. Yes, Dr. Kessler was sued by both Stratas and Julie did sue and settle with him but both had had serious vocal issues for years, most certainly Stratas whose career was basically over at that point. Stratas complained that work on her nose wrecked her career. Pretty much everyone in the classical industry rolled their eyes at that. The truth is, she had been singing for decades and had blown out her voice years before. Plus, she was a notorious canceler and had always had vocal troubles because she was singing repertoire much heavier than she should have. Stratas was also notoriously unstable and slightly nuts throughout her career. She was looking for any excuse to explain her career ending other than the reality that she was old for a lyric soprano, and her technique had failed her.
As far as Julie is concerned, she developed vocal nodes because she was also old, had lost what technique she had to age, and was attempting to sing eight shows a week in Victor/Victoria, a technically difficult show even though they pre taped parts of it to help her. It’s not clear what happened in the surgery, but her claim that they didn’t inform her that she could potentially always have issues with her voice post surgery is ridiculous. EVERY professional singer knows that there is a huge possibility of damage when vocal node surgery occurs. That’s why they work on technique to avoid it.
It speaks to the fact that Dr. Kessler continued to work with the most famous singers at the Met and in pop and musical theater that no one in the industry took those suits seriously. Disclosure, Kessler was my ENT for a good bit of my career, and everyone who had him as a doctor who had a vocal career trusted him implicitly.

His eyes aren’t tracking together. That’s bananas. Also he seems cognitively impaired, but maybe that’s just the way the young dudes want to act. It was painful waiting for his next word to come out.

That's my mediocre lane, bitch.

On the pic at OP, the right side of his mouth is drooping, but at R142, it's the left side of his mouth. I suspect he's faking all of this.

Yes, he is faking his heroin use. Millennials always want the easy way out, so they fake “illness” to get out of work. I’ve seen it before!
But he wants to get attention, so he fakes this ridiculous “heroin” angle to stay in the news. Millennials fake heroin “addiction” right and left.
Tale as old as time.

From NYT: What is Ramsay Hunt syndrome?
Ramsay Hunt syndrome is a neurological condition caused by varicella zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox in children and shingles in adults. The virus can linger in your body for your entire life, even long after you have recovered from chickenpox, and reawaken to irritate and inflame the nerves in your face.
The illness affects men and women equally and can result in paralysis on one side of the face and painful, blistering rashes. It is more common in older people, and some patients experience changes in their hearing, perhaps perceiving sounds louder in one ear than another or developing tinnitus (a chronic ringing in the ears) or even deafness in one ear. Ear and facial pain is commonly a part of the syndrome, and some patients may suffer from vertigo.
Only about five to 10 out of every 100,000 people will develop Ramsay Hunt syndrome each year. “It can happen to anyone,” said Dr. Waleed Javaid, director of infection prevention and control at Mount Sinai Downtown in New York. “But it’s not something that people should be afraid of.”
The syndrome is officially known as herpes zoster oticus; its more common name comes from the neurologist James Ramsay Hunt, who first described the illness.
It can take a long time for people with the syndrome to receive an accurate diagnosis, according to researchers. The term Ramsay Hunt is notoriously vague and the illness can have symptoms similar to Bell’s palsy, which can also induce facial paralysis. Doctors usually diagnose Ramsay Hunt syndrome by identifying small blisters that have appeared in a patient’s ear, said Dr. Wald.
Is there a link between the Covid vaccine and Ramsay Hunt?
After Mr. Bieber announced his diagnosis, a flurry of posts on social media speculated that receiving the Covid-19 vaccine had triggered his Ramsay Hunt Syndrome. Experts said these theories are misinformation.
“There is zero correlation that we have seen with any of the types of Covid vaccines with facial paralysis, whether it’s Ramsay Hunt or Bell’s palsy,” said Dr. Danielle Eytan, a clinical assistant professor of otolaryngology at NYU Lagone Health.
Ramsay Hunt was first described over one hundred years ago, Dr. Javaid said, and “Covid just recently came into our lives. It’s clearly not associated with Covid or Covid vaccines at all.”

Bell's palsy is a primary symptom of Lyme disease infection and he was diagnosed with Lyme years ago.
I don't know why people here don't believe Lyme is real. I guess I have to blame Bravo's Real Housewives disinformation narrative, but it is very real.
The CDC ups its estimate of how many people are infected every few years.
Before 2012, they estimated 30k infections per year in the US.
In 2012, they said more like 300k per year.
Then they estimated 350k.
And then it went up to 450-500k per year. Half a million people PER YEAR, which over a 10-year period is five million Americans with Lyme.
And this year, there's a new estimate that 22 percent of the population worldwide has had Lyme.
I care about this because I had acute Lyme in 1997 when I was 19 and I was so sick I don't even have any memory of it, but my mom always reminded me and she kept records of the diagnosis and treatment because she thought it was 'exotic.' In my early 30s, I was being investigated for likely MS, and after five years, it was finally discovered that I had Lyme in my central nervous system. I took antibiotics for a long time and all my neurological problems went away over time for good.
But it fucked up my immune system permanently. During my Lyme treatment, I was diagnosed with mast cell activation syndrome, a chronic immunological disease that makes me seriously allergic to all kinds of things, and I take three antihistamines, an antileukotriene drug and I get monthly biologic shots from my immunologist that out of pocket would cost about $60k a year, and it is most likely that this disorder was triggered by Lyme disease permanently fucking up my immune system.
When it gets into the CNS, it can cause severe mental illness just like syphilis can, and I don't doubt that this may have something to do with Bieber's behavioral problems.
You can't fake Bell's palsy. He's not doing it for attention.

I got Bells's Palsy a few years ago. Don't know how I got it but it hit during winter. The one-side facial paralysis went away after a month. The worst part was trying to drink something.
