Really nice to see her doing so well at 86
Julie Andrews Receives AFI Life Achievement Award
by Anonymous | reply 107 | July 23, 2022 9:47 PM |
She really is a gorgeous, lovely woman.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | June 10, 2022 8:44 PM |
A treasure. Met her at a book signing about 10 years ago. She had a big head and (by then) a somewhat deep, low, resonant speaking voice.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | June 10, 2022 8:59 PM |
Poor Julie.
She had so much talent but America swallowed her.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | June 10, 2022 9:15 PM |
Should have got it 30 years ago.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | June 10, 2022 9:27 PM |
She looks fantastic.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | June 10, 2022 9:39 PM |
"It's a spin on The Sound of Music, but instead of Julie Andrews, I come to the door." (actual pitch to CBS)
This photo is making me insanely happy.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | June 10, 2022 9:58 PM |
I was looking at her dress. I guess the poor didn't want this one.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | June 10, 2022 10:01 PM |
[quote] She looks fantastic.
I thought she did . . . up until the last half decade. She's now looking her years.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | June 10, 2022 10:03 PM |
Carol and Julie are treasures.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | June 10, 2022 10:05 PM |
The AFI video edit from the famous Sound of Music spin into Julie ripping her top off in S.O.B. was unfortunate.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | June 10, 2022 10:24 PM |
R11 If you enlarge the photo you can see a large bandage on her left shoulder.
It's either that or a skin tag.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | June 10, 2022 11:05 PM |
WHO is her surgeon?
I want his number!
by Anonymous | reply 18 | June 11, 2022 2:49 AM |
I didnt realize Andrews singing career ended when a surgeon botched a surgery to remove polyps from her vocal cords.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | June 11, 2022 3:28 AM |
She’s had great work done over the years—but—I think she is too old to be showing so much bare shoulder and décolleté. Of course, she and her “chum” Carol Burnett have been lovers on and off for sixty years.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | June 11, 2022 4:04 AM |
If she gets one I get one, posthumously.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | June 11, 2022 4:30 AM |
R 21. You cunt. Really, you are a f@cling twat and I’m glad you are dead.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | June 11, 2022 5:43 AM |
AnnE (the correct DL spelling) Hathaway did not attend? That's some crazy scheduling conflict... right? Right?
If she did, she wasn't featured in all of those pics - but Jane (Irrelevant in 2022) certainly made her presence felt for the photographers.
I wonder if they showed the AnnE skit from SNL where she played Mary Poppins - that was very, very funny. Julie's a good sport and would have appreciated the humor.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | June 11, 2022 10:56 AM |
She really is practically perfect in every way.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | June 11, 2022 11:00 AM |
Probably my favorite Julie rendition. I had this concert taped on VHS when I was in first grade and I watch it endlessly.
Yes, MARY!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 26 | June 11, 2022 11:00 AM |
If LMM and Billy Porter weren't there to witness, the award is bogus.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | June 11, 2022 12:31 PM |
When she’s about to cum, I do the Tarzan yell into her clit.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | June 11, 2022 8:08 PM |
Have Daughters Of Bilitis given her an award yet?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | June 11, 2022 8:17 PM |
I remember hearing about this a while back and thinking how Audrey Hepburn never got a chance to receive as many life time achievement awards as she could have, dying as young as she did.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | June 11, 2022 10:41 PM |
No James Corden?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | June 12, 2022 11:20 PM |
R8 oh, please! She'd be a nobody without Hollywood. Same goes for every Brit, because the UK film/TV industry is quite small by comparison.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | June 12, 2022 11:25 PM |
Yes, you're right, R34.
I was merely expressing may private sadness that she made so many awful decisions from 1966 onwards.
1. She appeared in so many trash movies. 2. Her first marriage finished and then she married that LA vulgarian.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | June 12, 2022 11:41 PM |
Why is there so little information on her adopted Vietnamese daughters?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | June 13, 2022 12:09 AM |
R36 Because it was a foolish impetuous decision that demonstrated Virtue-Signalling but ended badly.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | June 13, 2022 12:12 AM |
LE JAZZ TWAT!
by Anonymous | reply 38 | June 13, 2022 4:10 AM |
That is a seriously C list group of people for an AFI event. Is she persona non grata these days?
by Anonymous | reply 39 | June 13, 2022 4:12 AM |
OmG, the show just started and I’m already crying. 😢🥲
by Anonymous | reply 40 | June 17, 2022 2:08 AM |
She’s looking more Victor and less Victoria these days. Blake seemed creepy. I follow Angela Cartwright on Instagram. She seems like a lovely person and is still very close to the surviving VT kids . It’s nice to know making that movie was such a happy experience for them.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | June 17, 2022 2:27 AM |
R41- Blake Edwards sounds like the name of a QUEEN 👸
by Anonymous | reply 42 | June 17, 2022 2:29 AM |
Bo Derek looks great. Doesn’t look like she’s had any work done and her outfit was simple and elegant.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | June 17, 2022 3:53 AM |
Mr. Andrews has a mighty stalwart set of shoulders sitting atop his physique.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | June 17, 2022 3:59 AM |
'The AFI video edit from the famous Sound of Music spin into Julie ripping her top off in S.O.B. was unfortunate.'
I'm so glad I didn't see that. That scene was such a desperate move to give her some sort of contemporary relevance. As Vincent Canby said about her need to take off her clothes in public 'when you take the clothes off the girl guide you've got a very naked girl guide.' And this girl guide had to have her breasts surgically enhanced to be made presentable for her millions of adoring fans. Her professional career took a header when she hooked up with Edwards in the late 60s. The death of movie musicals in the late 60s was so unfortunate as we may have had a She Loves Me with her and Van Dyke which is one of the great movie musical might have beens. She also should have returned to Broadway much sooner when her voice was still in its full glory and she still had the stamina for 8 performances a week.
And what did happen to those virtue signaling Vietnamese children of theirs?
by Anonymous | reply 45 | June 17, 2022 4:21 AM |
I know most of her co stars are dead but where was Lesley Ann Warren?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | June 17, 2022 4:22 AM |
Jane Seymour looked fantastic as well.
They really made her look bad in that dumb B Positive show.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | June 17, 2022 4:25 AM |
I'm going to show my boobies!
by Anonymous | reply 48 | June 17, 2022 5:14 AM |
The bitch seemed to think she was the star in "Thoroughly Modern Millie".
by Anonymous | reply 49 | June 17, 2022 6:30 AM |
You were both bitches.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | June 17, 2022 6:34 AM |
She is such a cunt face.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | June 17, 2022 6:56 AM |
Carol and Julie make a nice couple.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | June 17, 2022 7:32 AM |
R53 Quickly, before of them dies: “Julie and Carol at The Dinah”
by Anonymous | reply 54 | June 17, 2022 8:54 AM |
I liked her work in Victor/Victoria.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | June 17, 2022 8:57 AM |
My chum and I have been hiding in plain sight all these years.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | June 17, 2022 2:48 PM |
Julie’s heartfelt thank you speech proves why she’s a class act and people love her.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | June 17, 2022 3:06 PM |
Someday someone will write the definitive book about Julie and Carol's more than 60-year relationship and it will be inspiring, if truthful. Everyone in the industry has known about it and respected their wish for privacy. Julie solidified it when she married Blake Edwards, a deeply closeted man who reputedly slept with a regular Who's Who of Hollywood males. Julie and Blake enjoyed a solid friendship and similar sense of humor. Carol, however, was the true love of Julie's life and vice versa. The fact that it has been sustained over the decades is a testament to the depth of their love and devotion and should be revered.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | June 17, 2022 8:04 PM |
Burnett is Emma Walton's godmother.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | June 17, 2022 9:14 PM |
Carol fumbled on the word relationship last night and quickly explained it was a friendship. Good for them if it is a relationship. They clearly adore eachother. And funny how Carol came back to NYC and broadway around the same time Julie opened in Victor/Victoria.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | June 17, 2022 9:19 PM |
Was that Carol's first time back on Broadway since she practically estranged the entire community with her lack of professionalism(for that time anyway)?
by Anonymous | reply 61 | June 17, 2022 9:27 PM |
MARY! 😭
by Anonymous | reply 62 | June 17, 2022 9:35 PM |
No wonder Carol loved Jim Nabors, they both hid in plain sight for many years.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | June 17, 2022 9:35 PM |
[quote] she practically estranged the entire community with her lack of professionalism
Are you referring to this behavior, R61?
"The producers of 'Fade Out – Fade' In sued her for breach of contract after her absences from the popular show caused its failure, but the suit was later dropped. "
by Anonymous | reply 64 | June 17, 2022 10:01 PM |
I'm sorry, but what exactly has the widow Edwards done that merits a "life achievement award" in film? Has she ever appeared in a truly great movie? And even if you do think that, say, MARY POPPINS and/or THE SOUND OF MUSIC qualify . . . what about after them?
Skimming over the list of past honorees, I'd say they've chosen pretty well in previous years. (Only Kirk Douglas stood out to me as a questionable candidate.) But to honor Julie Andrews before Sally Field or Faye Dunaway or Ellen Burstyn or Jessica Lange seems perverse to me. Several of Andrews' fellow Englishwomen -- Maggie Smith, say, or Judi Dench or Vanessa Redgrave or even Glenda Jackson -- would have been far worthier choices.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | June 17, 2022 10:15 PM |
Blake never much cared for my ladyparts.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | June 18, 2022 10:04 PM |
If Carol Burnett likes women, why did she go after a married man and break up his marriage? The least path of resistance would have been a nice lavender marriage. Maybe with Jim Nabors.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | June 18, 2022 11:41 PM |
Wasn't the married man a powerful TV producer?
by Anonymous | reply 68 | June 18, 2022 11:49 PM |
Mary Poppins and SOM were such huge successes and continue to exert such a powerful hold in the American cultural landscape that they figured those two were enough to justify an AFI. And My Fair Lady and Camelot should be enough to get her an honorary Tony but leave it to the Tony committee to be petty enough to deny her one just because she told them decades ago to go to hell.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | June 18, 2022 11:56 PM |
[quote] Mary Poppins and SOM … a powerful hold in the American cultural landscape
Mary Poppins = English characters in an English story.
SOM = Austrian characters in an Austrian story.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | June 19, 2022 12:11 AM |
Mary Poppins and Sound of Music were both made by American studios and have huge followings in America.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | June 19, 2022 1:29 AM |
R70, your "logic" escapes us.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | June 19, 2022 1:46 AM |
Julie Andrews is a much beloved star from the tail end of the golden age of Hollywood and also seems like a genuinely nice person. And she's still with us, which can't be said of the vast majority of golden age stars. If the AFI saw fit to honor her, so be it. Apparently whoever made the decision didn't bother to consult with the bitchy old queens of DL who carp over every fucking thing.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | June 19, 2022 2:18 AM |
The next AFI will go to Julia Roberts or Jodie Foster. They need to go younger not older.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | June 19, 2022 2:20 AM |
[quote] Mary Poppins and Sound of Music ... have huge followings in America.
So does Shakespeare but that doesn't make him American.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | June 19, 2022 2:21 AM |
Anyone who would question whether Julie Andrews deserved the AFI award based on her body of work doesn't understand that it's not always about quantity. Arguably, MARY POPPINS and THE SOUND OF MUSIC were such massive hits, so beloved, and have become such indelible classics that she would deserve the award based only on those two movies, but in addition to that she had THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE -- not quite so massive a hit, but it was one of the biggest movies of that year -- and VICTOR/VICTORIA, another winner.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | June 19, 2022 3:38 AM |
V/V was not a hit. It's a popular gay cult movie. As someone said Leslie Ann Warren is the best thing about it.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | June 19, 2022 5:49 AM |
T'was a hit, twat.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | June 19, 2022 6:03 AM |
I can see them awarding Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio, David Fincher, Ridley Scott. Will Smith blew his chance.
For ladies, Jodie, Julia, Cate. I wish Sigourney, she is so underrated.
I doubt Sally, Jessica or Sissy.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | June 19, 2022 6:18 AM |
Who did Diane Keaton fuck to get one?
by Anonymous | reply 81 | June 19, 2022 7:00 AM |
Perhaps it's the gesture that counts, but (just like the Tony) the trophy itself is very underwhelming.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | June 19, 2022 7:20 AM |
R67 Because everyone is gay and closeted according to DL.

Keaton had a great career. Oscar nominations over 4 decades. Few can say that.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | June 19, 2022 8:56 AM |
I was surprised AnnE didn't attend in person.
Also it would have been cool to have Lesly Ann Warren talk about V/V and Cinderella.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | June 19, 2022 8:57 AM |
[quote]V/V was not a hit.
Yes, it was. What's your purpose in typing false information like that?
by Anonymous | reply 88 | June 19, 2022 7:03 PM |
How was it a hit? It didn't even gross twice its budget. It was lucky if it broke even.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | June 19, 2022 7:27 PM |
Do you suppose she and Carol Burnett were lezzing out with their fingers underneath that long bower of flowers?
by Anonymous | reply 91 | June 19, 2022 7:39 PM |
[quote] How was it a hit? It didn't even gross twice its budget. It was lucky if it broke even.
It cost $15 million to make, and made $28.2 million at the box office. But then it made even more through video rentals--it was quite successful on home video.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | June 19, 2022 7:51 PM |
OK I'll give you that. But we're not talking Annie rentals.

You call that "well" OP? Yes, I'm six years younger, but can she do THIS?
by Anonymous | reply 96 | July 23, 2022 5:06 AM |
Julie was one of the most talented singers ever. She also had a lot of pain and struggle throughout her life. Despite that, she had a good heart, which is hard to encounter in Hollywood. At a time when gay people were oppressed beyond belief, they identified with her struggles and she theirs.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | July 23, 2022 5:18 AM |
They're scraping the bottom of the barrel with this recipient. What in the fuck did Julie Andrews do on film except make people nauseous? She's a grotesques presence in every way. Homely, can't act, has no comedic skills and her singing was never award worthy.
Next year, give the AFI to Miss Kay Lenz!
by Anonymous | reply 98 | July 23, 2022 6:23 AM |
Does Julie have a wife or girlfriend?
by Anonymous | reply 99 | July 23, 2022 6:41 AM |
Julie has a nurse.

What a terrible thing to lose one's mind.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | July 23, 2022 6:48 AM |
While I agree she didn't really deserve a 'Lifetime Acheivement' award, she clearly didn't make everyone nauseous R98. Most, but not everyone.
And her husband was ill for more than 2 decades -- ending up in a wheelchair. Did she ever bring that up? No. It was all about her tonsils, her vocal cords...HER.

Well she did make two of the biggest most popular films of all time which to this day keep raking in the dough. They are forgotten by no one. She is an American cultural icon whether you like it or not.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | July 23, 2022 12:51 PM |
She maybe a cultural icon for her two cornball films of 60 years ago. What she is NOT - is deserving of any lifetime achievement award from the American Film Institute. That award has been a joke for years now. But handing it to Julie Andrews is a new low.
