Julee Cruise is DEAD to me!

Julee A. Cruise (born December 1, 1956, Creston, Iowa, died June 9, 2022) was an American singer, songwriter, actress and musician, best known for her collaborations with composer Angelo Badalamenti and film director David Lynch in the late 1980s and early 1990s. She released four albums and collaborated with a variety of other artists. She was known for her song "Falling", the theme song for the television series Twin Peaks. She was married to author and editor Edward Grinnan.

Very sad to hear this - I loved her work.

She trashed David Lynch.

She toured with the B-52s when Cindy Wilson left the band around "Good Stuff" in 1992.

RIP

Among all her songs for Twin Peaks, I like "Into the night" the most!

Personally, I never saw the appeal.

by Anonymousreply 8June 10, 2022 3:39 PM

sad.

R8 You were too busy giving them the ooh la la, bitch.

by Anonymousreply 10June 10, 2022 3:44 PM

I really didn't realize how much Julee had worked and/or toured with the B-52's.

by Anonymousreply 11June 10, 2022 3:48 PM

It looks like she died of complications from lupus.

by Anonymousreply 12June 10, 2022 3:52 PM

Very sad news to lose one of a kind. That voice was nothing like Blossom, dearie.

I met her once backstage at a B-52s concert. I asked her what it was like going from working with David Lynch to the B-52s and she replied "Its kind of the same thing, don't you think?" and walked off. I must have phrased it poorly because Kate Pierson looked like I had kicked her. That was back in the 90s and it still bothers me I may have inadvertently insulted two of my fave performers. I was super shy back then and probably on something so my social skills weren't always the best.

r14, I imagine a lot of fans were mad that The B-52s did Good Stuff and Interdimensional Tourgasm 1992 without Cindy, calling Julee a poor replacement for Cindy. Apparently Julee did more tours with the group until Cindy decided to come back for new songs (Debbie & Hallucinating Pluto) and the late aught's Funplex.

At the time I rolled my eyes at the news that Julee was replacing Cindy in The B-52's. But much later I saw some footage online of the band from that time and, while she was no Cindy, Julee sounded surprisingly good with the band. There was much more to her than the ethereal style we all know from Twin Peaks. She could belt it out when she wanted.

Aww, I'm sorry to hear this. She had some great songs. I loved her soft, innocent voice. I think my favorite song of hers might be The Mysteries of Love. That was part of the Blue Velvet soundtrack, btw. It's such a romantic piece. For me, it never gets old.

RIP Julee Cruise You'll never be truly dead to me.

I remember when she replaced sinead O’Connor at the last minute on SNL because O’Connor refused to perform on the show because Andrew dice clay was hosting. She was wonderful especially considering how very last minute it was

I wish she had been a bit more prolific. Loved her voice and her aura. Twin Peaks wouldn't have been the same without her.
