Ted Lasso to end with Season 3

You cynical bitches who thought this would go for way more than three seasons can shut the fuck up now. Sudeikis knows this show can’t sustain its charm beyond S3 and isn’t the greedy bastard you assumed he was.

I hate, hate Jason Sudekis and I hate this cloying, overrated show!

by Anonymousreply 1June 6, 2022 5:55 PM

OP, you seem very angry.

by Anonymousreply 2June 6, 2022 6:00 PM

I'm glad that it's ending.

The wise thing is that maybe there will be something else with those characters, or some of them, down the line. But I think it's got to play out its story and not drag it out.

by Anonymousreply 3June 6, 2022 6:12 PM

Just a terrible show. I immediately question your senses of humor and taste if you love this tripe. I have many douchey coworkers who think it’s so funny and deep. 🙄

by Anonymousreply 4June 6, 2022 6:47 PM

^ And you're the supreme justice for all comedy, right?

by Anonymousreply 5June 6, 2022 6:50 PM

I love Ted Lasso. Don’t think I’m a douche. I hope not. I mean it’s not that deep but it’s charming & quite funny. I am British, maybe that makes a difference. Its been pretty popular here.

by Anonymousreply 6June 6, 2022 6:53 PM

We’ve had sufficient

by Anonymousreply 7June 6, 2022 6:55 PM

I can see why the unapologetically kind Ted Lasso offends so many Dataloungers. In a forum where you're expected to be as catty as possible it's hard to deal with an individual who is the complete opposite.

I love Ted Lasso though. He is a great role model in how to deal with difficult people. Reminds me a bit of a former boss I had.

by Anonymousreply 8June 6, 2022 7:09 PM

I've never seen the show to be honest but I admire the creators who know when to pull the plug.

by Anonymousreply 9June 6, 2022 7:19 PM

Yes, OP, but just how hairy is Brett Goldstein's lovely man-arse???

Our long transnational nightmare is over.

by Anonymousreply 11June 6, 2022 7:29 PM

It's a great show, and R4 swims in a festering cesspool of her own cuntiness, so she is not to be taken even the least bit seriously.

by Anonymousreply 12June 6, 2022 7:33 PM

I admire r4 and want to subscribe to his newsletter.

by Anonymousreply 13June 6, 2022 7:46 PM

If Brett Goldstein will go full-frontal in all his hairiness before the show ends, I will be content.

by Anonymousreply 14June 6, 2022 7:46 PM

Yes. Brett needs to be full-frontal and fully erect.

If not, a passionate kiss between Roy and Jamie will also suffice.

by Anonymousreply 15June 6, 2022 7:54 PM

Not exactly the perfect (or authentic) ass of a pro-soccer player. And yet, I could make myself at home in it.

I watched a few episodes, but it just seemed to be about bashing idiot Americans.

by Anonymousreply 18June 6, 2022 9:34 PM

It's not exactly Masterpiece Theatre.

by Anonymousreply 19June 6, 2022 10:30 PM

[quote] I watched a few episodes, but it just seemed to be about bashing idiot Americans.

Uh, nah, you didn't watch, since it has nothing to do with that.

by Anonymousreply 20June 7, 2022 4:32 AM

I expected to hate the show, but ended up loving it. I really like the turns it took in season 2. That proved it was more than just a one-premise light comedy. Although I would have enjoyed more, I think a 3 season run will be fine, as long as they bring it to a satisfying end, which given the quality of writing so far, should be the case.

by Anonymousreply 21June 7, 2022 5:23 AM

Great show, whose finale should strike a somber note to help bring the world to its senses, e.g. Manchester United, 1958.

My $.02.

by Anonymousreply 22June 7, 2022 6:18 AM

I binged the show bc I had a free trial of Apple TV, I wanted to see what all the fuss was about, & didn’t like the show. It’s like a less funny version of Schitt’s Creek (which is saying a lot). I did like Brett Goldstein & Juno Temple’s characters, but other than that, nothing held my interest. Will NOT be sticking around for S3.

by Anonymousreply 23June 7, 2022 7:43 AM

Only good thing this POS brought into the world was that bonkers pussy eating thread on Twitter. Forgive the BS link—the original thread is long-gone.

It’s a wonderful show about being nice, something that goes way over r4’s head. I feel sorry for r4. What a horrible existence.

by Anonymousreply 25June 7, 2022 8:44 AM

Also- OP, don’t brag too soon. This article you linked doesn’t confirm from someone in the know that this will absolutely be the last season. It’s just that right now they’re approaching it that way.

by Anonymousreply 26June 7, 2022 8:47 AM

Haven’t seen a single episode and I fucking hate it

by Anonymousreply 27June 7, 2022 11:51 AM

I don’t like it because it reminds me of Ellen’s “niceness” - I don’t buy it.

Sudeikis’s process server stunt was his Dakota Johnson moment.

by Anonymousreply 28June 7, 2022 12:04 PM

If I wanted to watch a “kind” show I’d watch Touched By an Angel.

🙄

by Anonymousreply 29June 7, 2022 12:48 PM

Really, they were barely able to sustain it during season 1. Season 2 flopped. No one wants to watch another show centered around a straight middle aged divorced white guy no matter how current or politically correct they try to make it. And a lot of the dad jokey humor is regarded as hostile.

by Anonymousreply 30June 7, 2022 12:49 PM

This thread is proof that the vast majority of DL'ers are deeply unhappy, broken people, stewing in a cesspool of their own acidic shit.

by Anonymousreply 31June 7, 2022 2:42 PM

[quote] No one wants to watch ...

Evidently that's not true in this case. It got renewed twice, received awards and posters right in this thread just confirmed to you that they want to watch the show. Why don't you simply start your statement with "I don't want to watch" and be done with it.

by Anonymousreply 32June 7, 2022 6:55 PM

It's never enough to just say "pass" for those types, R32. They have to also climb on the table and take the biggest, smelliest dump in the punchbowl so that everyone pays attention to them.

by Anonymousreply 33June 7, 2022 9:49 PM

[quote] This thread is proof that the vast majority of DL'ers are deeply unhappy, broken people, stewing in a cesspool of their own acidic shit.

Yes, but if it weren't for us, the world would be terribly boring.

by Anonymousreply 34June 8, 2022 12:10 AM

He needs to go back to Kansas , then he and Rebecca realize they’re meant to be together but she comes to America instead since she’s always had her way. And Jamie Tartt and Roy Kent finally get it on in the locker room, cementing their hate as secret sexual desire and come out together as Roy’s made coach of the team. That double crossing troll commits murder / suicide because of his overbearing father and wimpy mother getting in his head making him think he’s shit and never good enough.

by Anonymousreply 35June 8, 2022 12:18 AM

LOL I'm here for Jamie and Roy flip fucking for a whole episode.

But seriously, I think the least surprising thing that could happen is that Ted needs to go home and be with his son. He's doing to his son (in some ways) what his dad did to him, and he needs to break that cycle. He has the choice to go back, where his dad made a choice where he could NOT go back.

by Anonymousreply 36June 8, 2022 2:50 PM

Thoroughly enjoyed S1, but S2 was largely a mess. I fully realize that the show is not a soccer documentary, but the entire team canNOT put black tape over the sponsor's logo on their jersey without being majorly fined. I doubt very much that Arlo White calls Championship matches these days, but if he does he does not do it from a two card table pushed together at pitchside. (Does the show not have an English Football consultant on staff?) Rebecca + Sam: Why? Why make a female owner's major plotline romantic (and with a player? That's all kinds of No) when she's far more interesting as a club owner navigating English soccer? (And when Sam is offered a spot on the African team she said some nonsense about how she can't tell him what to do or where to go. Lady, you own his contract, you absolutely can.) And don't even get me started on the Coach Beard In Nighttown episode. The hell...?

If Rebecca + Ted is the S3 endgame (which apparently a lot of fans seem to want) I will throw my Roku remote through the screen. All the players? Can stay. (And I'm guessing, based on not very much, that the Welsh player Colin Hughes -- the one who can't handle his fancy sports car -- will be the one who comes out.)

by Anonymousreply 37June 8, 2022 6:41 PM

I think they've been very clear that Ted/Rebecca is never going to happen.

by Anonymousreply 38June 8, 2022 7:22 PM

I want Roy Kent to hate fuck me into next year.

by Anonymousreply 39June 9, 2022 1:15 AM

[quote]This thread is proof that the vast majority of DL'ers are deeply unhappy, broken people, stewing in a cesspool of their own acidic shit.

Because we don't want to watch a show, R31? Maybe you should look inside and figure out where your acidic shitpost came from.

by Anonymousreply 40July 17, 2022 9:36 PM

I'm so conflicted about Brett Goldstein. He's incredibly attractive -- those hairy tits are to die for -- but the way he deepens his voice on purpose like Elizabeth fucking Holmes is so off-putting to me. I've always been super sensitive to voices and I can immediately clock the strain of someone pulling that shit.

I want to hear his real squeaky femmy voice, warts and all. Of course, he's in a Marvel movie now, so the fakery is pretty much cemented until his death.

by Anonymousreply 41July 17, 2022 9:50 PM

R1/R3/R4 yeah, the syrupy perky tone of it really grates on me, too, and I think the premise was never explored in any depth or realism. Respect to R6, but I'm British too and a football fan all my life, and I can't stand the programme, mostly because it's not what I expect or want from a dramedy about football.

Mind you, to cater to my tastes it would have to be much blacker comedy and much more niche, Statto wink-nudge type of stuff. The dry, acerbic, downbeat tone of say, PEOPLE JUST DO NOTHING. Maybe such a preference does make me miserable and sour, R31, I don't really know. British people are raised on more melancholy and quiet and sharper comedy, so perhaps it's just a cultural thing? TED LASSO feels so unbearably American and cringey to me, and I always feel like I want to rescue Roy Kent from the world of it (almost everyone character the show should act and sound like more him, for it to be realistic to the football world).

[quote] Why make a female owner's major plotline romantic (and with a player? That's all kinds of No) when she's far more interesting as a club owner navigating English soccer? This annoyed me, as well. So much more could have been done with that character and storyline, and not just from a feministic point of view before someone says it. The romance just seems like boring, Hallmark, fanfic Reader Imagine dreck the way they've chosen to do it. IRL, middle-aged tycoon Amanda Staveley has just taken over Newcastle United with the help of 0il money--why not write something based off that? Or something to do with womens' football, which is taking off massively in the U.K. at the moment.

by Anonymousreply 42July 17, 2022 9:56 PM

Ah, but they couldn't do that, could they. It's quite obvious who these characters are Expies of, and to make that kind of insinuation would make a lot of agents & PR people quite aggy.

Not to mention the writers can't be into that, I absolutely refuse to believe anyone ever has actually wanted Keane/Grealish fanfic. For Gods' sakes, you have to have a look at yourselves.

Returning to gloat that I was right and you cynics who assumed Ted Lasso was going to go on and on way past its sell-by date were wrong.

And by the way don’t be surprised if the next season of Succcession is also its last no matter how much you (and HBO) wishes it wasn’t so.

by Anonymousreply 44July 18, 2022 7:18 PM

Succession is probably my favorite show ever but ending it next season is fine. The plot of father versus kids can’t go on for much longer or it’ll jump the shark. One season of Lasso was sufficient for me.

by Anonymousreply 45July 18, 2022 7:39 PM

r28, what is a Dakota Johnson moment?

by Anonymousreply 46July 18, 2022 8:02 PM

S3 drops today. Happy viewing! (For those who enjoy the series, I mean.)

One episode each Wednesday until the end of May.
