Kate got greedy, trying to win the Queen's approval.
She should have stopped at two.
This kid could be the death of the monarchy.
If he turns out to be a total fuckwad, the public won't stand for it.

On the HBO Max animated series THE PRINCE Louis was portrayed as a hooligan. Maybe Gary Janetti was on to something.

by Anonymous | reply 35 | June 5, 2022 6:57 PM |
More bad behavior...He's pulling his cousin's hair...I'm trying to find the clip where he kicks his sister Charlotte. There's a reason you never see this kid in public too often. Now we know why...
by Anonymous | reply 36 | June 5, 2022 6:57 PM |
It's a hard thing to sit though all of that pomp and circumstance, as an adult...can't imagine a small child...to be fair. Any venue is a challenge, even for a little while at that age. George and Charlotte are older and behave better. However, that needs to be nipped in the bud now.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | June 5, 2022 6:58 PM |
George has benefited from having William's attention on him constantly.
One thing I've noticed from when George was very young, was that William had always taken his hand, whenever they were out in public.
Look at this photo. George is more than old enough to be walking by himself, but he still takes William's hand.
It's almost like his father is literally guiding him on how to behave. After all, he will be King one day.
I don't think that Louis has had the same attention, and it clearly shows.

William was bratty when he was this age. I remember him acting up in public in the 80s. Ironically Harry seemed better behaved at the time.

Now we know why they stopped at 3.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | June 5, 2022 7:07 PM |
Fod god's sake he's four years old and bored out of his mind. He's probably tired and hungry and wants to run around and is sick to death of watching shit he doesn't care about for days on end. They need to nip the shushing his mother thing, but other than that what is the big deal? Do some of you not know any children? Or do you just so irrationally hate Kate you'll pick on anything?
by Anonymous | reply 51 | June 5, 2022 7:07 PM |
They were probably trying to stick it out so he could join the family on the balcony later. There were quite a few kids in the royal box and they all were pretty wiggly and bored.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | June 5, 2022 7:07 PM |
R46
Kate Middleton is not from a high born background, thus ways of latter are alien to her and likely seem cruel.
Royal and noble mothers would have summoned nanny or governess to take an unruly child away.

[quote] Would it be a "scandal" if Kate just took Louie out and away, under these circumstances, like most mothers would do?

I’m sorry but the image of him pulling his cousins hair makes me laugh hard. Not just because of her face as he does it, but his face. He was feeling some kind of way and MEANT to hurt her with that hair pull lmao
by Anonymous | reply 58 | June 5, 2022 7:12 PM |
Actually R44, it was George who tried to bring Louis under control.
Notice how George leans over to Charlotte and says something to her about Louis, then Charlotte takes care of business.
It's an interesting dynamic.
George is the boss and Charlotte is the enforcer.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | June 5, 2022 7:12 PM |
R57 seemed like all of them were trying to ignore him minus Kate who had no choice because he was next to her
by Anonymous | reply 60 | June 5, 2022 7:13 PM |
Lol...Charlotte is priming for the big sister roll. Even she tried to quiet Louie.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | June 5, 2022 7:13 PM |
R59 not necessarily. He told Charlotte because she’s right next to Louis. George isn’t. If he was he would have done it himself.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | June 5, 2022 7:13 PM |
" No one would have faulted her for that." In a private event no, no one certainly would, at least those from upper classes who still subscribe to old ways of children being seen and not heard.
OTOH at a public event recorded by media sight of a uniformed nanny, nursemaid or other servant arriving, bowing a curtesy (if HM was in room), and taking Prince Louis away would be flashed worldwide. Instantly there would be howls from middle and lower class fraus world over (and likely their more enlightened upper class sisters), over Kate Middleton's parenting.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | June 5, 2022 7:13 PM |
He's a total bratty kid - which is FINE - he will probably grow out of it and he might even just be going through a bad stage at the moment, but god, I would hate to deal with him. Kids are exhausting. George and Charlotte behave like little adults, which is why they are so appealing. This little guy acts like a typical hyperactive 4 year old boy - requires so much patience and redirection.
R51 - yes - we do know kids, which is why it is easy to spot a bratty one. There is nothing WRONG with it - kids are kids - but not every bored 4 year old puts his hand over his mother's mouth or does that gesture with his nose or pulls his cousin's hair or is all over the place like that.
Not the end of the world, but also fine to call it what it is.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | June 5, 2022 7:14 PM |

R56
Lady Diana Spencer worked briefly as nanny to an American family, then nursery teacher's assistant at Young England Kindergarten. She was never a certified teacher of any sort.
However her obvious love of babies and small children was a feather in her cap far as potential bride for Prince of Wales. That sort of broody behaviour was just what HM and others wanted as coupled with Lady Diana's youth would seemingly make the breeding and raising of heirs a snap.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | June 5, 2022 7:19 PM |
Kate acts like she’s never seen him before. That is not normal behavior for a four year old. He must be terribly spoiled or on the spectrum.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | June 5, 2022 7:19 PM |
Is the child "special"?
by Anonymous | reply 70 | June 5, 2022 7:20 PM |
When I watch ducklings swim around with their mother, I notice that there's always one who takes off in a different direction from the rest of the crowd and gets lost or gets in trouble, so the mom has to go find him and urge him back into the group. Once, the odd man out was distracted by a turtle who was just quietly lying on a rock in the sun minding its own business, but the wayward duckling had to splash over and poke at the poor thing until mom arrived to nudge her stray charge away from the edge of the pond -- I wished the poor turtle had nipped the little blighter's tailfeathers to teach it a lesson.
With humans, birth order seems to matter. The oldest may feel superior to the younger kids, bigger and smarter and advanced, just more grown up and therefore "special", more inclined to show off its command of good manners than to act childishly. Whereas the parents may tend to either spoil or ignore the younger ones, who react by behaving badly because they can get away with it, or to gain attention.

Oh, FFS, people.
R5 here, who never, EVER saw a non-white person to the thumb to nose raspberry thing. Just like I never saw a black kid flip their eyelids inside out. The black kids I went to elem-school with had other ways to show their disgust/annoyance/brattiness.

But whatever.

by Anonymous | reply 82 | June 5, 2022 7:34 PM |
Anyone who has had children or watched them at a family event such as wedding or funeral knows the drill It is often impossible to get them to sit still through even say a long church service.
Since can remember at our church parents of infants or young children sat at end of pew nearest aisle, better to make a quick getaway when or if a child/infant just couldn't get it together.
Every family of young children usually has a debate about whether an event will be too long and taxing for them to keep still. Thus might it not be better to leave them home with a sitter or something rather than tempt fate.
For the Cambridge brood to sit out much of HM's Jubilee celebrations would have made them conspicuous by their absence. Victorians or Edwardians likely would have understood, but not today's cult of children being included in everything.
Thus the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had few good options no matter which why they turned.
Leaving their children largely out of events would have caused comment.
Having them there, but with servants visibly standing by just in case, also would have raised certain eyebrows.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | June 5, 2022 7:34 PM |
He’s probably had several days in a row where his schedule is off and he’s been expected to perform. So this could be an anomaly. But the physical stuff with Kate is pretty bratty. Sticking his hands in her face, that’s a no-go.
If it happens AGAIN, yeah, he’s a spoiled brat (or there is a problem). But I suspect it will be addressed and resolved going forward. One way or another.
My gut is that they just asked him to do too much and his parents are probably overtired and stressed out as well.

He's four. Charlotte can only do so much. The girl wanted to have a bit of a good time at some point and thought her mother would be up to the job for once.
I prefer a four year old just naturally acting their age as opposed to being so overly disciplined that they come across as robotic. I'm serious. He was probably tired and he was undoubtedly out of his element since that whole event would be sensory overload for most wee children. And, like how I said- Charlotte did need to have a bit of fun. Charlotte might look like The Queen of England but she has a bit of Princess Margaret in her a bit if you were to ask me.

R83 no one would have questioned why a 4 year old was at a boring (to a child) concert that was 3-4 hours long.
Especially after his performance at the Trooping of the Guard.
I think all the royal kids should be left out of public events till they are 13 and older.

Now *those* kids are raised by nannies! All of these people don't have a help - probably a lot of help - but I think at least part of the reason those kids seem so weird (aside from the Children of the Damned looks) is the kids seem to have no rapport with their parents. Charlene at least hugs them, but they're standing aloof, like "get this bitch!"

She seemed helpless several times and ignored her, yet he listened to his sister when she reprimanded him. Putting his hands in his mother and thumping at her head is not normal 4 yr old behavior.

R151 this sounds correct as fuck but all three are cute kids. George looked funny but is growing into his looks a bit more. I can tell all three will have a moment to shine before it comes crashing down. Charlotte will have it best because the biggest issue with Windsors is hair loss. She can always get tracks or a wig if needed (doubt she’ll need it).
The boys will be treated like the most attractive men to grace the British isles before their looks fade like Williams, Harry’s, Andrew’s, and Edward’s. Charles and Anne always looked too much like their mother to be considered good looking.

Most of it was a normal tantrum except for putting his hand over her mouth. That is telling about her parenting skills and his lack of respect. Children know perfectly well who to mess with and what the limits are.
Also he probably understood fully well that being in public gave him powers to act like that without immediate consequences. But even in such case he wouldn’t do the mouth thing if she was an actual authority figure.

Anytime anyone has trouble with a 4 year-old being a bit rambunctious, just remember what we witnessed the last four years with Lurch Trump and hold your tongue.
by Anonymous | reply 191 | June 5, 2022 10:23 PM |
It was definitely poor behavior. He put his hands on his mom’s mouth to shut her up. That’s bad. Bad. That said, every kid has bad moments and it is extremely plausible that Louis has had a rough several days.
If it repeats, then a lot more criticism is warranted. Either because he isn’t being parented properly or because his parents should have a better idea of his limitations.
What I’m trying to say is that “typical four year-old” and “unacceptable behavior” are not mutually exclusive. Mistakes happen. Now they have to learn from it.
I don’t think Benedryl would always be a good tactic in this situation. First off, it’s effects are not entirely predictable, even if you do a trial run. Second, it wouldn’t look good if he actually fell asleep. Benedryl is ideal for plane rides when you have also carefully timed the child’s sleep so that a nap would be a realistic expectation even without the Benedryl. I’m sure it works great for some people in situations. Like this, I’m just saying it’s not a panacea.

R188, the defenders of this behavior are the same ones who slag Harry now, but used to love him. If I recall correctly, he wasn’t that well behaved as a kid, and now they tell us all the stories about how horrible he was as a teen and beyond. At the time, not a bad word about him, it was just juvenile antics. I’m no fan of Meghan, but if this was her kid, they’d be having a field day.
by Anonymous | reply 193 | June 5, 2022 10:29 PM |
One of the things I love about gay men is that most of us are such control freaks deep down. That's why "Mommie Dearest" is such a resonant text for us: you cannot entirely control a child, no matter how determined and uptight you are, without becoming a monster yourself.
Louis is not likely autistic, nor is he necessarily a terrible brat. He is a typical 4 year-old acting up at an occasion which for him is long and boring and pointless.

Kids need and thrive on routine. It makes their days predictable and they know what to expect each day, especially in the evening. For example: Dinner is 5pm, bath at 6pm, stories at 6:45pm, lights out at 7pm. Or whatever (this is only an example). The point isn't what time of day, but the predictable sequence of events.
When a kid is taken out of that for multiple days in a row, in highly sensory overloaded environments, with the normally attentive parents fully otherwise engaged, it's a lot. ANY kid would misbehave, The hands over the mouth thing was not good, but other than that I can completely understand his misbehavior given the disruption in his probably otherwise predictable routine.
by Anonymous | reply 200 | June 5, 2022 10:43 PM |
I think the adult Windsors make a mockery of everything and anything simply by inhaling and exhaling air.
They don't need any damn kids to show them the way.

George is boring af. Which is fine – it’s sort of his role, given his probable future, even though they could at least encourage him to smile a bit more.
But thank god Louis was there to be a little bit entertaining in the way 4 years olds normally are – it was a total delight to see the public sharing amusing Louis memes rather than bothering with the Sussex shitshow.
by Anonymous | reply 202 | June 5, 2022 10:47 PM |
Just to clarify (for the people claiming this is normal 4-year-old behavior); The person Louis is forcefully trying to quiet…the one he repeatedly mocks with a known sign of contempt…that’s his mother.
Not his sister.
Not his cousin.
Not a friend from nursery school.
Those of us raised in a proper manner would’ve never gotten away with similar behavior, even if it had happened in private. I don’t think Kate is a bad mother and her son hates her, but I now feel confident he’s autistic.
by Anonymous | reply 203 | June 5, 2022 10:55 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 205 | June 5, 2022 11:01 PM |
I don’t think so, R203. Many kids with autism can’t tolerate loud sounds. I doubt they would’ve taken him to a concert or on the balcony if that was the case. The entire family seems to be aware of his behavior, like his siblings, the cousins etc.. and try to placate him, so it doesn’t seem like isolated. I think he’s hyperactive or just a brat. It was cute until I saw his behavior with his mother. I work with kids and that was not typical behavior towards a parent.
by Anonymous | reply 206 | June 5, 2022 11:07 PM |

I clean the cages of autistic children and I have done so for ten years. I can assure you that the way he carries himself is indicative of the caged lifestyle of a mongoloid. Long and or big hair makes a better anchor for tiaras, not that Kate Middleton wears them that often. But she will as Pss of Wales and certainly queen.
A bob or too short hair wouldn't suit Duchess of Cambridge, at least not now anyway.
Kate Middleton's problem nearly from day one has been lack of a thoroughly experienced lady's maid, and or ladies-in-waiting in general.
It took Diana a while to sort herself out looks wise, but she she finally did results were smashing. KM often looks like some housewife and mother you'd see at Tesco's pushing a trolley. HRH is getting better wardrobe wise, especially at events. But hair and make-up could use bit more work.

If any sorting out of her children was required, the woman did not need assistance in that area. Several minutes later problem was solved....

Methinks William and Kate are trying very much to be and show they are modern parents. Coming from two such vastly different backgrounds means a meeting of minds on how to raise their children must have occurred.
Prince William and Prince Harry in turn were brought up differently than their father, uncles and aunt.
William and Kat have a nanny (real one, Norland graduate), but so do others in their set. However unlike Princess Margaret neither Will nor Kate were jetting off on holiday leaving their few months old child in care of servants.
In preparation for a much smaller and slimed down BRF that Prince Charles is planning, and Prince William seems to agree with, the Cambridge lot seem to be growing up more as upper middle class than royals.
by Anonymous | reply 228 | June 6, 2022 12:15 AM |
The behavior for the most part was that of a tired and bored 4 year old who had his normal routine disrupted.
The troubling part to me is the hands on mom’s face and mouth that is absolutely not typical kid behavior it’s indicative of a lack of parental boundaries, kids will try it with siblings or peers but not mom or dad. I would hate to see how he behaves with the nanny’s and help.

I don't know guys, I just see a typical hyperactive four year old. Not all four year olds are the same. Some are well-behaved in public and others throw a tantrum. Louis is obviously a handful but it's nice to see a kid in that family - especially in the direct line - behave like a real kid. Sometimes I see Charlotte and particularly George in public and find it a little sad how they conduct themselves like little grown ups because of the position and institution they were born into (it's also weird to see them dressed like children from the 1950s). I think Louis is fine. He reminds me of his distant cousin Princess Leonor of Sweden. Leonor was also a handful at that age, a super energetic and hyperactive four year old. Here she is rolling around on the floor at her little sister's christening four years ago. I think we even had a thread about it:

Developmentally disabled children/adults. My particular interest is/was children with autism and children with developmental disabilities and emotional disturbance.
Louis traveled to Wales and back. He rode in a carriage in front of the public. He’s attended numerous Jubilee events. Light show, music, performers, drummers, parades and I’m sure I’ve missed some. He recently turned four. I’d expect overstimulation and behaviors amid these circumstances.

Coping With Sensory Issues In some cases, children "act out" because of unrecognized sensory issues such as sensory processing disorder, that may be unrecognized. For example, many children with autism (and quite a few without a specific diagnosis) may have sensory challenges that make ordinary sights and sounds physically painful.4
Imagine spending the day coping with constant discomfort in the form of blinking lights, squeaking chairs, and uncomfortable clothes. In such a situation, almost anyone would find it hard to stay calm. Talk to your child's doctor if you suspect your child has sensory issues.

The balcony faces were cute and funny, but Louis physically putting his hand over Kate's mouth not once but twice, then repeatedly doing that Little Rascals thumb to nose gesture makes it crystal clear he doesn't see her as any sort of authority figure.
Makes you wonder who, if anyone, is actually disciplining him. Kids do need to be corrected in their behavior while growing up. You can't just let them spring up like weeds; they need guidance and boundaries or they grow up to be egotistical monsters.
by Anonymous | reply 262 | June 6, 2022 11:17 AM |
Kate is not old in the elderly sense, but she is 40. Every parent I know who’s in their late 30’s or early 40’s is overly permissive because they get tired more easily. George and Charlotte benefitted from the fact their parents were young when they were born, and because Kate had difficult pregnancies she was given time to ease into motherhood. Also, they came pre-Meghan, and a lot of William and Kate’s royal responsibilities were shared with William.
Louis came at a bad time. Between COVID, Megxit, and Season 4 of The Crown reviving hatred of Charles, William and Kate (easily the most popular royals after Her Majesty) were heavily leaned upon as part of “The Firm’s” PR strategy. They didn’t have time to give Louis attention and discipline like they did George and Charlotte.

The biggest issue is the hand over the mouth and the hitting his mother. Your child should know at this stage of development that behavior is unacceptable. The 1st time it happens you shut it down immediately. He looks very comfortable putting his hands on his mother. He may think it's playful, but it's not! It's just bad behavior that needs to be corrected.

That is not typical 4 year old behavior, that’s more 2 year old behavior. A 4 four year old is attending a proper prekindergarten program that runs the length of the school day. They are following directions from a teacher, they’ve been taught quiet time and indoor voices and can apply them to situations, with promoting and reminders. This kid seems like he’s never been exposed to these concepts. A teacher or parent should be able to say, quiet fingers up, quiet feet and hands and have the kids respond. Sure there are times when kids become overwhelmed, but a teacher or parent knows to look for the signs that it’s coming and redirect, if possible or move the child to a place where he or she can gather composure. Bottom line, the mother or father should have stepped out with the kid; either take him somewhere else to get it together or hand him over to the nanny. The boy is fine; he just has shiite parents; for not anticipating his behavior and not having a plan should it happen and then just sitting there while he ran havoc and ruined his cousins time and disrupted everyone around them. Even poor kids in average rated schools are exposed to these simple behavior directions. Time to look for new nannies v

Plus, it isn't just that Louis is (allegedly) acting up because he is bored (everything seems to "bore" him, then); it is how he expresses the feeling. What does Louis do to amuse himself?
He pulls another child's hair to hurt her. He shuts his mother's mouth with his hand, thumbs his nose at her, makes faces at her. He scowls. He grimaces. He sticks out his tongue.
When he's being "good," Louis is gesticulating wildly, turning his head, being "boisterous."
Prince Charles seemed able to calm the boy down a bit, holding him around the chest with Charles's meaty mitts.

[quote]Sure there are times when kids become overwhelmed, but a teacher or parent knows to look for the signs that it’s coming and redirect, if possible or move the child to a place where he or she can gather composure.
Except that in this situation, where was Kate going to move him to? What they should have done was post on social media before the celebrations began that they intended to bring the children to several of the events, but because of their young age they would be allowed to go home if at any point they started to flag. The public would have understood that and just been happy to see them at all. A nanny or two should have been standing by in texting range to swoop if needed. It's possible they didn't intend to bring them to so many things in the first place, but that the absences of the Queen meant the popular Cambridges were asked to make a bigger showing.
When our dear Charlotte was the same age she was a bit of a holy terror too, though she didn't publicly stretch to physical assault. Lots of tongue-poking, giving cheek to the press, flouncing away from proferred parental hands, etc. Louis has been less on show than she was, maybe because he's worse or maybe because the parents learned from her that it was better to leave them at home rather than fight it. She has settled back into her habitual demeanour now, though, ie a cross between HM and Princess Anne. So it doesn't matter how bad the little one grows up, because even if something happened to George the succession is NEVER getting to Louis.

R308, exactly. It’s such a tired argument, you haven’t been around kids, you are gay man, as a defense by these dummies. These are the same people who probably dismissed a swastika wearer at 20 as just being young. I said on the other thread, this kid isn’t your run of the mill 4 yr old. He’s the kid who grows up with enormous wealth and privilege his entire life and becomes that bully teenager/young adult where rules don’t apply. He’s going to want attention because he’s inconsequential and will act out and be reckless. Parents will indulge him because of that fact. All you have to do is look at Harry and Andrew to predict the future.

Look at all the homophobic fraus who come here to prohibit "childless fags" to talk about children. First of all, as if the fact that you contributed to world overpopulation with few spawns make you expert in pedagogy. You haven’t worked in kindergarten or some other children’s institution that gave you insight in behavior of substantial number of kids, so that you can talk with authority about the possibilities of four year’s old socialization. Based on your home manners shown here and your bigotry your children were socialized badly too and probably traumatized by the obtuse mother.
Second, this is a forum for gay men where they can speak about whatever the hell they want to and no expertise is required. For God’s sake, we all discussed Covid and perhaps only few here are medical experts.

It was one burst of brattiness that Kate stomped out with patience and words; otherwise, Louis spent the three hours cuddling with family members, eating snacks, talking to his cousins and mum, and actively watching the pageant.
This "outrage" has been astroturfed by Sussex stans who are pissed of that this weekend was a humiliation for Meghan and a triumph for the Royal Family they foolishly said needed her. Of course, they are only making the Cambridges more endearing to the world by calling attention to it. They are as good at making own goals as their dear Madame Duchess.

This isn’t about Harry & Meghan or even about the recalled items they were likely presented as gifts for their kids…this is about the fruit of the Cambridges “hands-on parenting” being on full display.

I don’t take much interest but they seem like quite plain and annoying kids to me. Of course young kids don’t always know how to behave. But the difference seems to be that they simply ignore what their parents tell them even when they repeatedly tell them - or often request them - to stop it. I might have got up to stuff behind my parents’ back but if they told us to do something or stop doing something we generally did. And no, they didn’t hit us or punish us severely in any way. It didn’t really occur to us we had a choice.

R312, for fucks sake, no one would. That’s exactly what she should have done. He was adversely affecting others enjoyment and he was aggressive with his sister and cousin; take him outside. Either to a waiting nanny or take him home. Many parents do this; kids acting uncivilized at the grocery store, well home and time out. Just leave! Moms in church leave all the time. It’s not the fucking rapture; your kid is too young for this venue; take him for how long he can behave, then leave when he starts getting rowdy. Geez. If the citizens of the UK don’t get that, then fuck them, it’s your child and your call.

Four year old kids are bored easily. They like attention. And they act up. He is too young to be brought out for anything more than a brief appearance. He should have been left in the care of his nanny at Kensington Palace while the rest of his family faced the public exposure.

by Anonymous | reply 332 | June 7, 2022 12:11 AM |
Ffs, he's four years old and was bored. That said, he might indeed be the spoilt kid. Remember he was the baby/toddler who had this very rare disposition of being able to make everyone smile and happy around him. These kids often end up being spoilt since they can get away with quite a lot. Plus, he's the youngest out of three which makes it also likely he can get away with stuff his older siblings can't.

If Archie misbehaved, the Klan Grannies would say that Meghan was the worst mother in the world, she should be executed, and her children are black trash.
But because this involved the lily white Kate and Louis, the Klan Grannies are perfectly fine with it, and Kate is "doing the best she can."
This is the Klan Granny viewpoint IN A NUTSHELL.

This thread makes me more grateful than ever that I'll never be a parent. Even without the complications of your kids being in line to inherit a throne, any and all parenthood just seems so fraught!

But it's not about Meghan and Archie, it's about Kate and Louis and people are saying those things. That's something you can actually condemn right now, instead of creating a false victimhood for your favorite.

I hope that history shall not repeat itself, but it struck me while watching the Royal Box, that George and Charlotte, in their interactions, looked a lot like childhood versions of Charles and Anne. Which would sadly place Louis in the Andrew position.

This could be a normally well behaved child acting out at an event that is unusual and maybe a little overwhelming for him, or he could just be a creepy little kid (he looks a little possessed in that short video). And that is a strange old-fashioned gesture of disrespect, curious about where he learned it.
In any case, he’s 4, not 2. Old enough to understand that his behavior is not appropriate. Whether he can control it is another matter altogether.
Sheesh this whole family is whackadoo aren’t they?
by Anonymous | reply 351 | June 7, 2022 11:10 AM |
Kids are different. One of my sons at 4 couldn’t sit still and would have challenged me, particularly in public where he knew my options of discipline were limited. The other was very calm and could have sat calmly. Both are now grown and successful.
I had a cousin that makes Louis look positively angelic. He was like that until 12. Yet he grew up to be very personable, and extremely successful in his career.
I give Catherine a pass on this one, and it’s nice to have a spirited child.

Btw, what happened to poor Archie? You know, the one that Meghan described as a 'hobby'. The one that DID NOT make Harry and Meghan a family. Already entirely forgotten now that the golden child Lilibet is here?

by Anonymous | reply 358 | June 7, 2022 12:27 PM |
George and Charlotte seem to be very close while Louis looks rather left out of their fun. Maybe that's why he acts up. That and being the youngest, resulting in getting away with improper behavior much easier than his older siblings.

Kate should have just pointed at Louis and said, "Charlotte--kill!"
He was bloody lucky Aunt Anne was too far away to deal with him. (She and Tim were on Charles's left.)
I did enjoy the emoji Kate used to signify him in her summation of the day.

R367, probably the thumb-nose-waggling-fingers thing. I think I first saw it done by the Three Stooges, but maybe earlier than that. I'm surprised that a child raised in Louis' environment would ever see it.

When Louis crawled over to sit on Charles' lap he behaved better. Yet I noticed Great-Aunt Anne shot him a few looks, he knew better than to misbehave down there. I noticed Mike Tindall tried to talk to and get Louis to behave, with the I'm watching you sign, at one point. He is a very ugly man physically, but he really seems like a good guy and a great father. Really watching the familial interactions in the royal box made them all really look like a normal family.
by Anonymous | reply 371 | June 7, 2022 3:57 PM |
He's too young to be threatened with being sent to stay with Aunt Anne, and learning how to much out stables. But George and Charlotte aren't!
Seriously, though, they're rich kids, and working with horses is great for rich kids. Taking care of a horse, and bonding with an animal and learning to understand its needs, and the reality of vet care and mucking out stables, and meeting the various sorts of people one meets at stables including the grooms and sensible old Aunt Anne, is a great way for spoiled rich kids to get in touch with reality. It's an interest where their money both matters and doesn't matter; they need money to have a horse so they'll be around peers, but money doesn't buy success, the rider still has to do the work and accept the horse on its own terms. That's why there are private schools with equestrian departments, for troubled rich kids that need straightening out.

Comment from Daily Mail piece linked above...
"IMO the most disturbing comment on social media was by an American who suggested they needed to give Louis a pill to calm him down. The idea that the only way to control a lively 4 year old is to drug them sums up everything that is wrong about a society that assumes that being naughty means that a child has some sort of medical/behavioural problem."
by Anonymous | reply 375 | June 8, 2022 9:50 AM |
It is particularly ironic that anyone on the DL would make such an assumption.
by Anonymous | reply 376 | June 8, 2022 11:35 AM |
Have 4-year-olds changed since oh, 1950?
I think that what too many think is "normal" behavior is actually just what is these days allowed as "acceptable" behavior. IOW, nurture, not nature.
Can anyone seriously argue that Louis would dare clap his hand over his FATHER'S mouth, make rude gestures towards his FATHER, slap his hands around his FATHER'S face, angrily stick his tongue out at his FATHER?
My bet is that Louis would neither dare nor care to. And that would put the lie to his behavior towards his mother as somehow developmentally expected and "normal."
Well, tempus fugit. Let's hope we're all around in 2024 to comment on how well-behaved the 6-year-old Louis is.

I thought it was hilarious. What a little asshole! Jesus, he's 4, he's bored af, and not taking 'stop it' for an answer. If anything, it probably made Kate even more relatable having to deal with such an unruly sprog.
Also like that it that the coverage completely torpedoed the Harkles lame baby photo. How sad that only royal-adjacent kiddies attended the partay. No wonder Harry looked pissed when he got back. lol

I think that even DLers can be more objective than mothers who think that the fact that they procreated make them think they are Anne Freud. I would respect the opinion of some expert working in children's institution (not even an expert, but someone of the stuff who spend lots of time time with different kids). But parents know only one of few children that are product of their own imperfect, unknowledgeable upbringing, largely helped by phones and TV as nannies. Mothers are dismissive even of the people who professionally care of children even as experts: teachers, psychologists, nurses if no child ever dropped out of their vagina. Not to mention the mentioned maiden aunts who often in patriarchal societies brought out a number of their younger siblings, their nephews, nieces etc. But parents, especially mothers are the group of people that tends to be the most convinced of their superiority in the matter. You never see house owners pretending to be architects or car owners to be engineers. I guess this is why DLers call them fraus.

Back in Developmental Psych I was told that you can't diagnose ADHD in kids under 5 or 6, because it's completely normal for 4-year-olds to buzz around like a manic on bath salts.

I watched the whole pageant and noticed there were several times when Louis's seat was empty, and Kate's seat was sometimes empty as well. Obviously Kate (and someone else) took him away for breaks. There was at least one occasion when Louis sat on William's lap, not just Charles'. And that's just what Sky News chose to air. We never get a totally accurate representation of anything from media. I'm not saying he didn't act like a brat at times, but I think he did pretty well for a four-year-old trying to pay attention to three hours of nonstop motion/noise.
by Anonymous | reply 383 | June 9, 2022 3:10 PM |
I noticed on the balcony and the pageant that when he was quietly watching, Kate kept talking to him, then he would act out. What’s up with that? As far as the events, the balcony was not that long and he still couldn’t control himself. The 3 yr old cousin, Zara’s daughter, was sitting right behind at the pageant and seemed to be much better behaved.
by Anonymous | reply 384 | June 9, 2022 3:15 PM |
R384 Key word: daughter. Boys are far more hyper than girls.
by Anonymous | reply 385 | June 9, 2022 4:04 PM |
That’s an interesting point, R384. Maybe the problem isn’t the kids are being raised by nannies…maybe Kate is smothering Louis and causing him to act out as a resort.
George is the future king, so Kate can’t raise him however she’d like. Charlotte is the spare and she seems independent (plus, mothers and daughters don’t always get along too well).
If Kate had left Louis alone he might’ve made it the whole program without acting out. But he’s her project.
by Anonymous | reply 386 | June 9, 2022 5:41 PM |
Why on earth would anyone watch this shit on tv?
by Anonymous | reply 387 | June 9, 2022 6:03 PM |
"If Kate had left Louis alone he might’ve made it the whole program without acting out."
Sweetie, that's not how four-year-olds work!
Ask a typical four-year-old to sit through a three hour pageant that didn't include a single cartoon character or live dinosaur, and they'd be bored beyond endurance in 1-5 minutes, and either start whining to watch some stupid cartoon, or get up and start grabbing hats and throwing them off the balcony like frisbees. Kate kept the little bastard in his seat for almost the whole show, AND she did it without a tablet full of cartoons or the usual bag of games and snacks, OR visible intervention from the nanny. In the fiercely competitive world of parenting, that's Olympic-level work.
