Why Kelly McGillis Isn’t in Top Gun: Maverick: “I’m Old and I’m Fat, and I Look Age-Appropriate”

Rene Russo is 68 and looks good.

Cheryl Ladd is 71 and looks good.

It is possible to be over 60 and look good. She does not look age appropriate. She looks old. She let herself go.

Linda Carter is 71 and looks good.

All those women spend time and thousands on upkeep. That's not her priority.

I mean, it's not like she looks like a bag lady or something.

And just because I feel like saying it, Linda is being held together by dying her hair and heavy makeup. She would look 85 if her hair was gray.

She could play his mother. That would have been a fun cameo.

Linda Hamilton was old and fat and looked her age, but she got In great shape for Terminator Dark Fate, and while it wasn’t a hit, it was an absolute joy to see her in that role one more time. But she looked old (probably made to look older and more haggard than she would if she had some make-up) and that was right for the role.

R3 Lynda Carter is frikkin beautiful now as she was in the late 70s and the 80s.

R15, Linda Hamilton had connections. She was once married to James Cameron. Kelly Mcgillis is off the radar completely.

She's not obsessed with maintaining her looks. After a certain age, women have to put a lot of effort and get surgery to look decent.

R28, that looks like it was caused by an overextended frenum which is attached all the way down to the teeth. It's not uncommon in people with gummy smiles. When you put gigantic choppers into a mouth like that (or in bad cases, even if you don’t) without also performing a frenectomy, it increases the tension on a frenum which is already too tight.

Looking at photos of her when she was young, she probably would have developed the crease anyway, but not nearly as exaggerated.

Witness was probably her best showcase. With Top Gun, more people remember the guys and the planes. With The Accused, Foster had the showier role.

She looks appropriate for her but the character would not look like that. Plus, the Maverick character would not have stayed with her anyway so it all makes sense.

She really did look amazing in the original.

Her frankness and attitude is very refreshing. You don't find many Hollywood stars (past or present) who will gladly speak the truth about themselves when the truth doesn't make them look good.

I saw a still of the movie and even Tom looks haggard and puffy faced from certain angles. He’s kept his body trim and I’m sure he’s had several procedures but sometimes the face just can’t hide from mother nature.

Before you know it, this whole Hollywood thing might turn out to be more dependent on good looking people than we realized!

When I see a reunion movie, I want to see all the actors come back. They could have found something for McGillis to do. Even a cameo at the end would have felt like an Easter egg.

At least they hired a love interest that was in her 50s. It would have been gross if they had hired some 20-something or 30-something to be his love interest.
