NBC News Promotes DL Favorite Queer Smarty Poster Boy Eric Cervini

He takes an unnecessary swipe at Power of the Dog.

Any nudes?

by Anonymousreply 1June 2, 2022 1:46 PM

He’s so exhausting.

by Anonymousreply 2June 2, 2022 1:56 PM
“Not all of queer history ends with a cowboy or a politician or a scientist dying,” Cervini said. “A lot of it involves stories of liberation and joy and family and humor and comedy and camp.”

Cervini is absolutely correct. Gay men need to look beyond gay martyr narratives.

The "cowboy" comment is as applicable to BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN as it is POWER OF THE DOG. I think POTD has even less cultural influence than BBM, frankly. A lot of people saw it, and discussed it, and it will be utterly forgotten this time next year.

by Anonymousreply 3June 2, 2022 2:02 PM

He's truly insufferable, but I would fuck him and his boyfriend nevertheless. *shrug*

"Everything I am is everything I need to be."

I can't believe Miss Thing has that as his Instagram header. That's a bitchslap right there. Did he get bum fucked by Oprah?

by Anonymousreply 5June 2, 2022 3:16 PM

He is stunning looking in that pic. No idea who he is.

by Anonymousreply 6June 2, 2022 3:18 PM

R4 More Queers in Speedos to add to that thread. BTW it made me declare my age before it would let me see that picture, that never happened to me on IG before. Is that something EC put on the picture?

by Anonymousreply 7June 2, 2022 3:20 PM

"Queer"

Cringe. Just say "I am desperate for attention" and be done with it.

by Anonymousreply 8June 2, 2022 3:22 PM
Not all of queer history ends with a cowboy or a politician or a scientist dying,

OP, this "swipe" could just as easily have been at Brokeback Mountain. However, neither Power of the Dog or Brokeback M. are history.

by Anonymousreply 9June 2, 2022 3:28 PM

Based on R4’s Instagram pic, the self-labeled Dr. Eric Cervini really should loose a few pounds and tone up before sporting that royal blue speedo.

by Anonymousreply 10June 2, 2022 3:36 PM

^ lose, fuck

by Anonymousreply 11June 2, 2022 3:36 PM

Start at 34:34 to listen to the Erics discussing whether Marsha and Sylvia really threw the first brick.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 12June 2, 2022 3:50 PM

Listen to what, R12? There's nothing at that link.

by Anonymousreply 13June 2, 2022 5:50 PM

I'm sorry, r13. It's one of ten conversations Eric Cervini had with other gay writers and book people when his book was released in 2020. In this one, he speaks with Eric Marcus, author of Making Gay History.

I signed up for these conversations at that time, and I guess that's why I can still access them. In it, the Erics come to the conclusion that it doesn't really matter that Marsha was not at Stonewall, but rather "uptown until around 2 am," or that Sylvia was "in Bryant Park all night." As long as we *believe* they threw the first two bricks, that's what matters.

It's amusing that NBC draped Cervini in the official trans colors of powder pink and baby blue (see OP).

by Anonymousreply 14June 4, 2022 2:53 AM

So he’s hosting, or trying on some level, to lend his historian’s credibility to this terrible looking show called The Book of Queer that looks like a cross between Drunk History and a high Camp SNL skit. He looks somewhat professorial here, but on his TikTok page he was wearing outrageous outfits and swishing it up with the rest of the cast. This is why they hate us.

It's QUEER QUEER QUEER 24/7. TQ has hitched itself onto gays like some kind of filthy, disease-carrying tick.

by Anonymousreply 16June 4, 2022 3:24 AM

The shoes/socks at R4's link are a crime against humanity.

by Anonymousreply 17June 4, 2022 3:47 AM

That's what it is, r17. That stupid feet outfit he's wearing. I couldn't figure out why he wasn't cute anymore. You caught it. It's the feet.

by Anonymousreply 18June 4, 2022 3:53 AM

I know Eric and he is certainly not "stunning looking." He is attractive (his boyfriend who's a drag queen is more so) and what's refreshing about him is that he doesn't take his writing career seriously, he's very funny about it. In fact, he has a great sense of humor.

What's not refreshing about him is his constant self-promotion. But maybe that's the only way someone can make a mark these days

by Anonymousreply 19June 4, 2022 3:54 AM
But even as a lifelong history buff and then a history major at Harvard University, the Texas native had never heard of Harvey Milk.

I'm sorry, if you're gay and seriously interested in history, you surely heard about Harvey Milk before getting to college. I knew about him when I was a teenager in the 80s. This and his comment about believing the myth of Stonewall rather than defending the truth of it make me doubt his seriousness as a historian.

by Anonymousreply 20June 4, 2022 4:04 AM

Awfully full of herself, no? Like so many loud and mouthy "Queer" types who insist on speaking for the larger group, so full of their own certainty and righteousness!

by Anonymousreply 21June 4, 2022 6:36 AM

Straight media types are drawn to these manqués like Eric Cervini...or rather DOCTOR Eric Cervini! That is why we get doused with them.

Hey, if you're a "historian" shouldn't you do research and you know, get the history part right?

by Anonymousreply 22June 4, 2022 6:41 AM

The observation about Bury Your Gays vs. liberation, joy, etc. is so prosaic and nothing any serious individual critiquing media portrayal of gays hasn't been saying for at least 20 years.

Why is this person and their bland observations supposed to be important? Oh, because he went to Harvard like Elise Stefanik and is conventionally attractive. Okay.

by Anonymousreply 23June 4, 2022 7:08 AM
the Erics come to the conclusion that it [bold]doesn't really matter that Marsha was not[/bold] at Stonewall, but rather "uptown until around 2 am," or that Sylvia was "in Bryant Park all night." It's amusing that NBC draped Cervini in the official trans colors of powder pink and baby blue (see OP).

r14 Just like it doesn't matter that Malcolm himself talked about himself as a gay man who also did drag; what matters is that LGBTQ+ and allies must unconditionally believe that that was a trailblazing trans woman of colour (or black trans woman or BIPOC trans woman or just a woman) to whom we gays all owe. Well, fitting for NBC, the most trans propaganda channel there is.
TQ has hitched itself onto gays like some kind of filthy, disease-carrying tick.

r16 Sure, but has it been just TQ+ invading resisting or powerless gays? Plenty of gays like this (or bis) have been zealous TQ+ warriors themselves, along with pushing the Marsha/Stonewall/gayrights fabrications all over.

by Anonymousreply 24June 4, 2022 7:25 AM

Queers are just retarded.

by Anonymousreply 25June 4, 2022 7:46 AM

Who is this guy?

by Anonymousreply 26June 4, 2022 8:10 AM
I signed up for these conversations at that time, and I guess that's why I can still access them. This is where I lose all respect. He's sacrificing his professional integrity on the altar of dubious ideology. How am I even supposed to take him seriously as a historian after statements like this.

Professional historians research and report the facts and, if none remain due to the passing of time, they present plausible scenarios of what likely happened. They are interested in getting as close to the truth as possible, not in presenting a politically opportune version of history. Mr Cervini is not a professional historian apparently.

by Anonymousreply 27June 4, 2022 9:02 AM

It does undermine any trust one has in the book. Does it mention Harry Hay and NAMBLA?

by Anonymousreply 28June 4, 2022 9:08 AM
Professional historians research and report the facts

Modern-day multi-media stars only care about feelings. Not facts.

by Anonymousreply 29June 4, 2022 9:17 AM

Nothing wrong with a hot stud wearing nothing but a cowboy hat and bouncing up and down on a huge cock.

by Anonymousreply 30June 4, 2022 9:23 AM

When I was in grad school, a straight white woman professor made some dismissive remark about how excessively "angry" Vito Russo was in writing The Celluloid Closet.

Before I could shut myself up, I snapped "perhaps he was ANGRY because he was watching his friends die off."

The relationship between she and I soured somewhat after that. It was worth it.

by Anonymousreply 31June 4, 2022 4:05 PM
The relationship between she and I soured somewhat after that.

Guessing she wasn't your English prof.

by Anonymousreply 32June 4, 2022 4:07 PM
Based on [R4]’s Instagram pic, the self-labeled Dr. Eric Cervini really should loose a few pounds

We guessed you would think that, Natalia Dyer (aka Nancy from "Stranger Things").

by Anonymousreply 33June 4, 2022 4:21 PM
Dr. Eric Cervini really should loose a few pounds

And you should gainn a few grammars.

by Anonymousreply 34June 4, 2022 4:26 PM

Cervini is of the "Marsha and Sylvia started the Stonewall riots" school of thought. Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 35June 4, 2022 5:01 PM

I want his jawline.

by Anonymousreply 36June 4, 2022 5:08 PM

R14, Well, that's just stupid. We can't just pretend they were there because it looks good for history, and whose history is it supposed to look good for? Certainly not gay history, or the hard working gay activists that actually did the leg work who are now forgotten and replaced by trans who weren't actually involved in gay rights. That's insulting to the gay activists who fought for our rights.

I like Eric and I follow him on Instagram, a lot of his posts are educational, but I wish he would be a little more honest when it comes to trans involvement in gay rights, or should I say lack of. I don't think it's right to mislead the younger generation of gay people into thinking that they owe somebody else their rights.

by Anonymousreply 37June 4, 2022 5:35 PM

The final product may not be as bombastic as the preview at R15 but I am glad the show is being made.

No one will watch it If it stays behind a paywall like Discovery+. I really hate that even cable channels are jumping on the streaming train.

by Anonymousreply 38June 4, 2022 5:49 PM

He's from Texas. He has to do something!

by Anonymousreply 39June 4, 2022 6:03 PM

by Anonymousreply 41June 5, 2022 11:33 PM

R41 He is a plagiarist.

by Anonymousreply 42June 5, 2022 11:35 PM

I remember him from my IG days. He basically accused a bunch of historical figures of being gay. His posts were quite click-baity.

by Anonymousreply 43June 5, 2022 11:37 PM
He basically accused

I hope he's not one of those idiots who accused Queen Charlotte of being such and such

by Anonymousreply 44June 5, 2022 11:40 PM

r40 that was AWFUL

by Anonymousreply 45June 5, 2022 11:43 PM

Book of Queer is shredded in the comments section. And not by homophobes, by actual gay people.

I would find him more sexworthy if he'd say "gay" instead of the Q word. I'd suck his gay dick and let him suck my gay dick. Whoever has the bigger gay dick gets to choose top or bottom.

by Anonymousreply 51June 6, 2022 12:30 AM

R40 that was fucking horrendous in so many ways. The horrible production. The consistent use of black actors in all roles to suggest that Egyptians were Black African. The queer over the top acting. The anachronistic statement at the end that if Akhenaton were alive today maybe he would identify as non-binary.

by Anonymousreply 52June 6, 2022 1:33 AM

They non-binaried Joan of Arc in this as well.

by Anonymousreply 53June 6, 2022 1:41 AM
The consistent use of black actors in all roles to suggest that Egyptians were Black African.

This is a thing now in America and it's absolutely ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 54June 6, 2022 1:42 AM
The anachronistic statement at the end that if Akhenaton were alive today maybe he would identify as non-binary.

r52 Well, that's the most toned-down statement I've ever heard from the TQ+ crowd. For years, all I've heard is the absolute: "If _ were alive today absolutely _ would identify as trans." regarding... historical figures.

by Anonymousreply 55June 6, 2022 2:09 AM

When I was a gayling in a small Southern town, I was a history buff who devoured anything he could find at the local libraries about gay men and women in the past. I was also hearing "queer" hurled as slur in school and in mass entertainment. Those gay men who flourished in the past gave me hope for the future, and inspired me to major in history when I got to college.

So I'm of two minds on this show. If it gives hope to a young person growing up in a difficult situation, that's an absolute positive thing. But must it be such a cartoonish, stereotypical, anachronistic, myth-filled presentation?

Not sure if I would watch it, but I'm not the target consumer for this: I'm an eldergay. I want my gay history reasonably accurate and maturely presented.
