It would be pronounced VLAHSH i HAH in German. Most likely originally some sort of Czech name, but "Germanized" in spelling. He was born in what was formerly East Germany, and not far from the Czech border.

r27 Slightly easier to learn maybe, but definitely not when it comes to intelligibility. I speak one of the South Slavic languages as my mother tongue and I can barely understand the other languages in my immediate region. I'm as clueless as you are when it comes to Czech or Russian or any of the others.
