Please someone explain how can you eat like this!
I did it a few years back and can say that it does work. My only issue is I am a reluctant meat eater so Keto is hard.

R1 what's the benefit? Were you trying to lose weight? there are no fruits and tons of fat
by Anonymous | reply 2 | May 31, 2022 12:36 AM |
Yes, I lost about 25 pounds in a few months. Once again eating all the meat required turned me off.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | May 31, 2022 12:38 AM |
I've done whole30 a couple months ago. I lost 20 pounds on that cycle. I'm doing it again and so far I've lost 5 pounds in a week. It sucks and I've been having dreams set in restaurants or fast food places like Popeyes, but it's worth it. Whole30 is better because you can have fruit and potatoes, but unlike keto, you can't have beans and seed oils. I just can't go on a diet without any rules or structure, because then I end up having cheat meals, which turn into cheat days, which turn into cheat weeks. It's easier when you have a planned end date as well. Whole30 is a little cultish though, that's the only negative.

OP, how can you eat like what? Cut the carb, up the fat and protein. This isn’t new information.

I was considering this, but I have high cholesterol and I can’t imagine this being a good diet for that particular condition.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | May 31, 2022 12:45 AM |
[quote] there are no fruits and tons of fat
Fruits are nothing but sugar, which makes you fat, and fats from meat are good for you. On Keto, you burn the fat you eat.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | May 31, 2022 12:45 AM |
You absolutely feel high from keto. Your mood soars, your skin clears, you drop weight like crazy. The body was not meant to handle all the processed carbs. They truly are the enemy of health. Im laying here like a fat whore thinking about how I have to start keto again. I was injured and immobilized and fell into a deep depression and started eating badly and gained some back. It is harder to do while living with someone if they are not doing it with you. I thrived on it, though, and Im going back to it this week. The key to staying within your macros is bulletproof coffee. Its almost essential for success with that lifestyle. You don’t have to eat a bunch of red meat and bacon and butter. Fatty fish such as salmon, avocado, nut butters, avocado oils, are all great sources of fat.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 31, 2022 12:48 AM |
R9 - fruits are not "nothing but sugar". There is fructose, but what the fuck did you learn THAT? Fruit is not unhealthy. Processed sugar and added sugars are obviously not good for you.
What a load of garbage. And limited fats from meat. You can't eat fatty meats all the time and expect to be healthy. It just doesn't work that way.
You sound really misinformed.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 31, 2022 12:51 AM |
I did paleo, which seems similar. It’s great because you drop weight fast - it took me two months to lose 30lbs. I felt much better, not sluggish. Slept a lot better. Really found it difficult some days to actually eat anything - you just didn’t feel hungry. But ultimately, it’s difficult to maintain long term if you’re not susceptible to cult-like influence and devotion, or if you don’t want to eat protein and fats all the time. Towards the end, I was eating nothing but chicken breasts, eggs, bacon, almonds and broccoli because it got boring, and time consuming, cooking anything else. I think one of the biggest keys to weight loss is trying to cut out refined sugars and breads. And fast/junk food, which is full of refined sugar and carbs.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 31, 2022 12:56 AM |
I cannot--do not--want to give up bread.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 31, 2022 12:58 AM |
R11 - when I did paleo, my blood sugars and cholesterol went down. I know it won’t be like that for everyone, but that was my experience. It could have also just been the effects of losing weight. One other thing that occurred is my psoriasis went into remission. Could have been coincidental, but 🤷🏻♂️
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 31, 2022 12:59 AM |
It’s ok short term but no one should eat like that permanently. Fruit is more than “just sugar.” It has fiber, vitamins, antioxidants. No one ever got fat from eating an apple for fucks sake.
Low carb is healthy but too much protein can damage your kidneys and too much fat can damage your heart and gallbladder. A healthy diet for a non diabetic person should be 30% fat, 30% protein and 40% complex carbohydrates (whole grains, oats, fruit and vegetables).

Keto: How do you lose weight when you have to eat all that fat and very little vegetables? Aren't vegetables essential?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | May 31, 2022 1:04 AM |
I eat low carb most of the time but not religiously. People who do Keto but don’t eat LOTS of vegetables are doing it wrong. I eat mostly greens, and low carb vegetables which is most of them except beans, corn, onions, and tomatoes and I can have the last two in limited quantities and stay below 20 grams of carbs a day.
Eating Keto is not just eating low carb as R10 notes. If you eat all protein and not much fat you will likely be tired most of the time. Any more than 30% of your calories from protein and many people what’s known as the “keto flu.”
So far as the cholesterol link, my blood cholesterol went down when I started eating more fat but I don’t just eat any type of fat. Grass-fed animal fats are high in Omega-3 and 12. Vegetable oils, such as canola/soybean/and sunflower oils, are high in omega-6 which is the fat which raises bad cholesterol. Of the non-animal derived oils avocado and coconut are best. Grass-fed ghee is also very good.

Can someone explain to me how Keto is different than the previous low carb, high-protein/fat diets of 20-25 years ago?
Is it just a repackaging of an old idea? Seems like it.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 31, 2022 3:26 AM |
R19, Keto is specifically high fat. The Atkins diet is a higher protein, low carb diet. The increased fat consumption pushes the body into ketosis which Atkins does not, at least after you start adding carbs back in in third week.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 31, 2022 3:33 AM |
One upside of severe chronic depression is that you lose the desire to eat almost entirely, and the pounds just fly off!
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 31, 2022 4:24 AM |
It's stupid diet.
All carbs contain protein. Fruits have fibre and vitamins.
And who the fuck would banish bread completely from their diet?!
by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 31, 2022 4:36 AM |
I'm not on a keto diet (I just made chocolate buttercream from scratch, because I was REALLY craving chocolate & had none in the house, outside of unsweetened cocoa), but have cut carbs quite a bit. There's always room for improvement, but prepping large daily salads from fresh ingredients (on a weekly basis) really helps to set me up for success.
I'd LIKE to get to the point that I only reach for fruit when I have a sugar craving. But for now, I've made really good progress in the past six months, and can't wait to lose more weight over the summer.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 31, 2022 5:15 AM |
All carbs are NOT the same. People love to lump the carbs in together. Of course, the best thing is to not eat "empty" carbs. Eat whole grains, which have vitamins and protein. And MOVE YOUR ASS! Whole carbs are fuel, and we are meant to eat them, but when we do we need to be active, which is what we should be doing anyway. No one's going to convince me that eating lots of saturated animal fat as a staple diet is good for you.

When I worked in pediatric neurology in the late 1990s we fed many of the epileptics’ keto diets as a last ditch effort to keep them from seizing all the time. One of the big things was trying to get them interested in munching down on a big spoonful of mayonnaise. Just about one out three kids would respond and it would help them. So whatever it does, keto does something quite radical to the brain in the process of adopting the diet, so keep that in mind. For the kids who it didn’t work, the last next ditch effort was severing the lobes of their brain, this would contain a seizure to one lobe instead of zapping around the whole skull and was some relief to them. But they were also never quite the same, not lobotomy bad, but you saw it in their affect. Who knows what they do today?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | June 9, 2022 1:09 PM |
OP- There is nothing new here. It's the Atkins Diet. Eliminating entire food groups and saying it's more healthful is BULLSHIT.
Fruit has a lot of healthful nutrient. Keto like Atkins in NOT a balanced/healthful diet.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | June 9, 2022 1:10 PM |
It works. But then again literally most things where you're focusing on whole and better foods and restricting your diet works.
Even low-fat still works (surprise!) - even with the carbs from potatoes, bread, cereal, fruit - if you're focused on quality protein, mainly whole foods, fruits, veggies, and minimal processed foods.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | June 9, 2022 1:11 PM |
No way in hell am I eating that much meat and I'd die without my colourful fruit, about the only thing that makes me happy these days. My cute dentist is on keto and he has the most delightful acetone-like breath when he's near my mouth. Personally, I find it refreshing and not at all revolting.
Needless to say, you can be healthy and have an appealing body without any special diet, you just need to eat (and drink and sleep) healthy and exercise regularly. This really isn't rocket science, though you can earn a pretty penny by writing a book about the latest new diet craze and the masses will fall for it every single time.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | June 9, 2022 1:12 PM |
R34, Fruit is basically a vegetable full of sugar. Nature never intended humans to gorge on it year round. Sugar is toxic, and responsible for all metabolic illnesses in this country.
Fruit was supposed to be consumed once a year, and not gorged on like it is now. It is not as healthy as you have been told.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | June 9, 2022 1:13 PM |
R36- that breath goes away so you are lying. Also, it never emerges if one hydrates and uses electrolytes.

by Anonymous | reply 39 | June 9, 2022 1:15 PM |
I’ve done Whole 30 a couple of times and lost about 15 pounds each time. My cholesterol is a bit on the high side so I was worried all the eggs and meat would increase it more but it didn’t happen.
On the other hand, my neighbor did Keto and while he lost weight, his cholesterol went up like crazy.
Small sample size, obviously, but I think Keto is too meat heavy.

r37 You're wrong, all the beneficial nutrients in fruit far outweigh the sugar "problem". You're supposed to have five different pieces of fruit per day. I can't even imagine what my skin would look like if I only had it once per year, Jesus.
Also, please don't accuse strangers online of lying, dear. Unless you're twelve, it really is an awful look.

Do people really think the natural sugar from fruit is just like processed sugar?
All I know is people treat diets like religion. I'm not even talking about telling someone their diet doesn't work (anything can work), but even saying that something ELSE works gets people angry, defensive. Low-carb worshippers can get really upset if you tell them you lost weight eating moderately low-fat diet and ate bread and grains with plentiful carbs.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | June 9, 2022 1:17 PM |
R40, there are many meta studies debunking the cholesterol myth. As long as your ratio is good, you are good. Your body does not take cholesterol and turn it into cholesterol. In fact, many studies indicate a higher cholesterol will keep you alive longer. As long as the ratio is good.

by Anonymous | reply 47 | June 9, 2022 1:21 PM |
Thats a myth, R45. In fact, carbs will give you kidney issues and fatty liver disease.
Do carbs affect kidneys? Low carb diets, such as Atkins, which are popular for people who want to lose weight, have been found not to cause any noticeable harm to the kidneys, researchers from Indiana University School of Medicine reported in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology.Jun 2, 2012

Keto and Paleo are just modern day versions of Atkins, right?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | June 9, 2022 1:21 PM |
[quote] fruit from sugar is mainly fructose. Read about what it does to your body.
Pure fructose in large quantities may not be great for the body, but fruit has the fiber that prevents all the fructose from being released in your body at one time (unlike in a diet soft drink, for example).
This the biggest problem with nutrition science. It's not like I can take fructose and put it in a blender and it becomes a peach. There is so much more involved that we cannot measure--the interactions of all the vitamins with the fructose and fiber do different things to your body than just a bunch of fructose.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | June 9, 2022 1:24 PM |
Ancel Keys lied and brainwashed the country into believing low fat (sugar) is good and High fat bad. In fact, just the opposite is true.

While that is very true, it's hard to know exactly when to stop eating. Putting rules around it works better, at least temporarily. The problem is we break rules all the time.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | June 9, 2022 1:25 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 54 | June 9, 2022 1:28 PM |
Again, R50- Nature did not intend for humans to gorge on fruit. And the food pyramid includes it bc of the farmers. Before we insinuated ourselves, fruit was offered once a year. Annual fruits are not offered whenever you want them. Ppl throwing them into a smoothie etc is NOT healthy. At all. Sure, it has fiber. So do vegetables without the sugar. We are not supposed to eat the gross amount of fruit ppl believe. It is a "treat" given by nature, once a year.

It works. Reduces inflammation, too. My nephew is on it and it has almost eliminated his seizures.
A perfectly acceptable way to eat if done well. Breakfast is a cheddar omelet and coffee. Lunch is a chicken patty made from ground chicken thighs on a bed of greens and a creamy dill mayo made from scratch. Strawberries for dessert. Dinner of cheese/olive/pepperoni/yellow pepper sliced. That’s what I eat. What’s wrong with that?
There is nothing in pasta or potatoes or bread or sugar that you can’t get from a low-carb food.

In the second month I started seeing abs and chest definition. My face shape changed. People kept asking me what I was doing. Once I hit my goal, I still do keto but don't follow it religiously. One or two days a week I just eat like everyone else. So far so good. I still avoid processed sugar, and processed foods but fruits, veg, and things I can't have on keto.

No alcohol which I told him was unacceptable, So he said I could have a few vodka/sodas or tequila/sodas one day a week. He based this on my body and bloodwork and numbers. Always better to work with your trusted physician and not some quack diet guru. My brother has been going to this doc for 10 years and following the docs recos he has lost and maintained his ideal body weight and all of his numbers are in the healthy range. Has been off and stayed off the high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes meds. So I'd say I have a pretty good incentive to follow that path. To each his own. Weight loss is so basic.
Limit your food portions, stop eating when you’re full, and don’t eat if you’re not hungry. For exercise, just walk. I ate what I wanted to except red meat. (You’d be surprised how fattening red meat is.) I lost 30 pounds. It took longer, but I wasn’t obsessing over it. Be patient. It took a long time to gain the weight, and it took a long time to lose it.

I tried Keto because I was having terrible bloating and GI issues. I'd read online that a low carb diet could help with that. I was skeptical, but after two days all my symptoms went away. I've stuck to it for over a year now because I don't want to go back to being miserable. I do mostly a Mediterranean diet version of Keto where healthy fats are my fat source (olive oil, avocado, fatty fish). I eat a lot of greens. I eat a lot of greens and some vegetables, but it can be limiting. For vegetables, it's mainly broccoli, cauliflower, Romanesco, fennel, zuchhini, summer squash, green beans, Brussels sprouts, red/orange/yellow peppers, etc. I still get a nice color variety.
For fruit, it's very limited. I eat mainly berries. I take a Keto-specific supplement to make sure I get all I need. I hit a plateau after about 9-10 months and hover around that weight. My numbers after being on the diet for a year were good. I had slightly elevated bad cholesterol from my prior physical, but I was still within normal range. My A1C, which was high end of normal at my prior physical, went down a lot and my doctor was super happy with that.
Overall, for the type of GI problems I was having, this diet was a good solution. I've adapted to it. I'm thinking of introducing more whole grains at some point, but we'll see if doing so makes the GI issues come back.

r85 not exactly true. There is a simple difference. Protein is broken down to be stored as fat. Fat cannot. The body will always choose, carbs, then fat, then protein. The theory is that if you limit carbs the body will switch to fats as a primary source due to carb starvation. Once the body goes to fat first, it will go to stored fat. Atkins focuses on protein in that protein is harder to break down to store as fat but eventually, the body will.

YOU CAN EAT FRUIT. You just have to keep your total carbs under a certain number. 20 for weight loss, more if you want to maintain. It’s individual, you figure it out.
Berries are the lowest in carbs. I like a fresh fig or some Granny Smith apple.
The whole goal is to use fat as your fuel.
There is nothing - no nutrient - in high-carb foods that can’t be found in low-carb foods. You can get vitamin A from a mango (high-carb) or spinach (low-carb). You can get vitamin C from broccoli or kale, not oranges.
Fiber from vegetables is just as good as fiber from grains. It’s

Best way to lose weight is to keep a daily diary of everything you eat and its caloric value.

by Anonymous | reply 119 | June 10, 2022 7:40 AM |
R15, you are way off. Diabetics should NOT eat those carbs. At all. That is old timey brainwashed thinking.
Grains are not healthy. No man made processed carbs are. Even fruit ---more than one a day is not healthy. It is full of fructose. Guess where that goes? The liver. Nowhere else. And, the liver then turns it into fat for energy. If you don't burn it. Fat.
Eating too frequently is a killer too. Each time, your insulin shoots up.
All of these old timey thoughts is brainwashing.
Try watching Dr, Robert Lustig or Dr. Jamnadas.
The reason why America is full of diabetes and obesity is due to stupid theories started by Ancel Keys.

by Anonymous | reply 122 | June 10, 2022 10:17 AM |
R115, you are wrong. It still has fructose, and the only way it is handled is via the liver. The amount of fiber does not matter. The liver handles it, turns it into fat for energy. So, if you eat too much of it, not only do you get FAT...but you can also get fatty liver disease, and the pancreas is effected.
Steve Jobs died of pancreatic cancer. That is not a coincidence.

You don 't necessary need to ingest fruit regularly. Most vegetables can provide you with even better nutrients that fruits can with little to none of the sugar. R145 I recommend Dave's Killer Bread, but only the red labelled "Powerseed" one, which is low in carbs and sugar (carbs 18 - fiber 4 = 14 net carbs per slice). It's a bit pricey but it's tasty and it should last at least one week unless you freeze it. Most supermarkets carry it now.

R149, nope. I don’t get any gas on keto. When I fell off the wagon and ate bread and sugars, my belly swelled up and I had terrible gas. That stuff ferments in your belly and the biome in your gut is in shock. The beasties that live off sugar and carbs die off after a while and you get a whole new set of beasties.
After a week away from that stuff and my belly is flatter, and no more flatulence.

Another benefit of keto is YOUR TEETH.
If you’re not eating carbs, there’s no sugar stuck to your teeth. There’s no starch that turns to sugars. The chemical composition of your saliva changes. Is spinach or cheddar cheese going to give you cavities?
My teeth never have that furry film or plaque on them. And gum inflammation is gone.

If you are doing keto with whole foods, it’s very healthful; leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, salmon, avocados, etc. No doctor would look at that diet and say “you have to add some bread to that diet!”
Lots of people get hung up on making substitute desserts and breads and it gets cultish and expensive.
It’s a way of eating that helped control blood sugar before injectable insulin. My great grandmother was a Type 1 diabetic who lived to be 86, born in the 1880s. My mother remembers that she allowed herself one piece of chocolate on Christmas Day, but otherwise followed an extremely spartan diet. This is how people had to eat if they wanted to survive. It’s not some newfangled fad.

Went back to the gym instead put back 10 lbs but it was muscle and I can have my rye toast at breakfast and I'm regular.

I've always had horrible triglycerides (like 500 to 600) and the last fasting blood sugar test I took was 112 and I freaked out.
So I'm keto. To figure out how the fuck to make it work, I buy those Libre sensors you stick in your arm and monitor my blood sugar almost all the time.
Maybe when I learn, I'll quit with the sensor - $200 per month, and about 20% of the time, I'll inject one and it will quit working before the full 14 days.
Anyway, I really believe in very low carbs. (My weakness is buying crap synthetic mess like Atkins chocolate shakes, Lily candy bars, Quest keto cookies and no-sugar ice cream.). When I'm not being lazy, I love chef salads and beef/veg soup. Add some plain cheese or nuts or even Fairlife lo-sugar milk, and I'm set.
Oh and like the Atkins mess, I found this company called Netrition and they have small melba toast things that are like crackers - taste like crap but I can tolerate them with something spread on top - mayo, cream cheese, peanut butter.
Oh and I found a recipe for very low carb cheesecake -- you crush almonds for the crust (mixed with butter), blend two packs of cream cheese with four eggs plus stevia & lemon juice, bake in a glass pie plate for 30 minutes at 350 degrees and that is HEAVEN. (if you're sugar's ok, you can make a fruit topping with berries & stevia cooked together)
Sorry to go on and on - this has really become an obsession for me, but I believe in it for health reasons.

Keto diet is very hard on your kidneys. And you know what, I am fucking sick of all these "magic " diets. Just watch your portions and be sensible. Eat chicken and fish, beans, whole grains, use olive oil, 0% fat plain yogurt and put your own fruit in it. Eat some oatmeal and stop drinking too much alcohol. Drink more water, and try to get in at least 30 minutes of aerobics, every other day, and free weights and resistance training every other day. (alternate.) It is not difficult. Eat more vegetables and less fruit. When you're trying to lose weight orange juice is not your BFF. Eat health snacks. Did I mention portion control? I'd rather eat four or five times a day than gorge myself. And I definitely don't eat meals after 7 PM. Tonight I had a bowl of Lentil Soup. When I know I'm going to eat late, I try to eat my biggest meal for breakfast or lunch. Once you get in the habit, you will be pleasantly surprised at how good your feeling. And BTW: If Nancy Pelosi could raise five kids, 9 grandchildren, run for COngress, serve as Speaker for 20 years, and still manage to exercise 45 a d ay every day, do not tell me you don't have time.

People just need to have some common sense. If you don't like eating a lot of meat, then don't. But also don't shovel mashed potatoes and potato chips into your gob. Eat plenty of vegetables and salads. Beware of avocado--it's healthy but super-fattening. Low-fat cottage cheese is an excellent between-meals snack. If you like your wine, whiskey, etc., you'll have to be disciplined and cut back. Don't eat heavily late in the evening. Goat cheese is healthier and less caloric than cow's milk cheese,

There may be genetic differences in the way people's bodies process foods - and also genetic tendencies to be leaner or fatter. Which may mean that keto is the perfect diet for one person but not a good idea for another. Maybe we'll learn to "type" people with a blood test, but in the meantime, you can keep track of your blood pressure, blood sugar, and lipids and if they're good, you're ok. And avoid obesity - though there's controversy about whether "overweight" (bmi 25-30) is actually harmful. Some studies suggest the "overweight" live longer than the normal (19-24 bmi) and a good bit longer than the underweight (bmi less than 19)

Using the blood sugar sensor in my arm, I've learned that I do ok with very green bananas (which I happen to prefer anyway) - and also strawberries, especially if they're just barely ripe. One raw apple or pear (and maybe peach if not overripe) is ok, as well.
Forget grapes, melons, tropical fruit - but I can do all berries, if I keep it to a half cup max (well, I can eat a lot of semi-ripe strawberries and do fine)

R190, I'm right there with you. The 'fun' of starting a new eating plan (never say diet!) is lost for me. I used to have fun tracking my food (WW app or FitBit app) as it kept me accountable. Somewhere in 2020, I stopped tracking my actual portion sizes but still tracked the food. As the weight crept up, I stopped tracking altogether.
The only thing keeping me mindful is a looming doctor's appointment in May or June of this year. I have got to lose 30 -35 pounds by then. Not for her, but for me. I know I can do it.

A year ago I decided do a change of lifestyle and go on Healthy Keto diet. I went from 185 lbs to 157 lbs. I feel better than I have in over 20 years.

I’m nearly 70 and have followed a kind of keto diet for many years. I eat meat, fish, full fat dairy, large quantities of green and leafy vegetables, and fruit—but try to limit them to lower glycemic kinds like berries. I lost nearly 70 pounds and am now slender, My lipid levels are exceptional. I don’t consume so-call keto junk foods or fat bombs, because I find they put on weight. I also avoid artificial sweeteners for the same reason. I do consume stevia in the mct creamer I put in my coffee. I recognize metabolism varies, but grains and flours even whole grain, almost immediately impact my appetite and weight. R193 and R194, thank you, seriously, for the information and encouragement. I'm going to try to get back to on a healthy Keto plan.

The keto diet is miraculous for a friend of mine, he's diabetic and when he sticks to keto his blood sugar normalizes, his cholesterol drops, he loses weight, he looks 10 years younger, etc.
When I do the keto diet nothing happens! I don't lose weight, my labs stay where they were, and I crave bread all day. I honestly think that people have varied responses to the keto diet, that it works wonders for some metabolisms and not others, that some even need it to be healthy.

Keto isn't right for everyone. That being said, my brother had the same problem and it was because he didn't track the food he was eating, so although he was eating keto-friendly food - his portion sizes meant he was eating too many carbs and calories. He didn't want to try tracking, so he just gave up. If you decide to try again, maybe use an app and see how much of each category you are eating. I did it for the first month when I was starting out but now I don't need to.

R197, then he wasn't eating keto friendly if he was consuming too much carbs. First of all that phrase is relative, if you decide to eat a keto friendly alternative to something heavy in carbs with EVERY meal how are you reducing carbs. I'm guessing, he isn't slow? In the beginning you can eat as much as you like, as long as it's fat and not carbs. You will lose weight. It may cap and for you to reduce more, you have to reduce calories. Something is missing here. And eating as much as you like doesn't mean eating 3 steaks for breakfast, lunch, and dinner unless you are a highly physical person. I think that should be common sense. Going on keto doesn't mean being a fkin gluten and eating double the amount you ate before.. it means you can still eat a whole lot, like most Americans do, as long as it's in fat and protein, not sugar and carbs. Your body starts to burn it so fast because of ketosis.

If you are going to have bread on Keto, don't do it more than twice a week. Avoid the common processed breads including those from bakeries. Buy only whole grain bread that have minimal added sugar and are high in fiber. The two best breads on the market that fit that description are mainly two brands; Dave's Killer Bread and Ezekial. The below linked Powerseed is the best on the best for sandwiches.
Avoid potatoes, pasta, rice, and all baked goods. Avoid sugars and processed sweeteners. Monk fruit and Stevia and the best natural sweeteners. Use extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil which are high in Omega 3 fats and avoid canola and all other vegetable and seed oils which are high in Omega 6 fats with are very inflammatory and increase bad cholesterol.

No, he's not slow - i think he's just a bit of a glutton and wants an excuse to overeat. He saw my results (I'm on year 3 now) and kind of kids himself that he can do it, but some people just can't. He would also do "cheat days" every week and think it was fine even though I never do that.
I don't think he'll be successful at any diet/improved way of eating.

Mary! I didn't know Nancy Pelosi raised 9 grandchildren. A role model for us all.

I did it to lose weight for an event for a little over a month about a year ago. It absolutely worked, and I felt/looked great while I was on it, and have kept most of the weight off. However, every time I try to get back on, I find myself unable to stick to it for more than two days.

Use your heads. Eating lots of red meat, especially processed meats like bacon, is extremely unhealthy. You might be able to lose weight, but you’re doing damage to your cardiovascular system, organs, and increasing your cancer risk.

Any diet that decreases fruit and vegetable consumption and increases red meat consumption is dangerous

A real ketogenic diet that can be effective in treating refractory epilepsy in children is pretty much no carbohydrate, requires urine monitoring to demonstrate ketosis and is very hard to to follow without training by dietitians and nurses who specialize in the treatment.
The “keto diet” most of you are familiar with is really a low carbohydrate diet- more or less a hybrid of the low carb Atkins diet that has been around since the 1960s.
All fad diets like keto induce weight loss by cutting out a large food group leading to lower calorie intake. When it is stopped the person returns to their former eating habits and gains back lost weight.
The real solution is to take a hard look at the reasons/behaviors for over eating and try to modify them. It’s incredibly difficult for most people to do this- easier to use a trick for while- but only a short term solution for most.

It absolutely works but with some caveats.
Pros: weigh loss, never feeling hungry, more energy, clearer thinking.
Cons: requires commitment, requires judicious planning, it's almost impossible to be flexible with eating (so no spontaneous eating out).
My major negative was that it can be really hard to come back to if you get thrown off track. I was doing really well, seeing major progress but one family visit and I'm thrown off track for a few days and found it nearly impossible to get back on track again. a few months later all my gains were gone and I'm back where I started. So, upshot is IT WORKS BUT IT IS NOT SUSTAINABLE LONGTERM* and there's the rub.
*without laser focused commitment.
