I switched to linen sheets and it is a revelation!

I have been considering linen sheets because I get warm easily.

Ugh. The wrinkles. Unless you have "linen," not linen.
I use cotton flannel year round. Warm in winter, cool in summer. Wonderful.

R2 It sure does wrinkle which is why I won't wear linen clothing.

I just made linen sheets in an interesting pale mint shade, to coordinate with a summer coverlet, and don't have a wrinkling problem.

Linen is vastly overrated. There is a lot of misinformation about linen online. Let's tell the truth about linen:
Linen is soft. Linen CAN be soft, but it isn't very smooth, the feel of linen on your skin will be rougher than cotton. Linen takes quite a while to soften up, unless you buy it stonewashed. If you buy linen that hasn't been stonewashed, it will feel like a tablecloth.
Linen is lightweight. It can be, but it is heavier than a lot of cottons, and again, the individual threads are thicker because it is a bast fiber
Linen is cooling. Kind of. Yes it breathes, but so does cotton. A smooth lightweight single ply cotton, especially a batiste, or a lightweight poplin will feel lighter, breathe extremely well, and be more cooling than a thicker linen sheet. In addition, linen doesn't give you a nice, cold to the touch feeling like cotton. There isn't a cool side of the pillow with linen
Linen lasts forever. It can, but you have to be careful with it. Over drying it will cause it to become less absorbent, and when ironing, you need to be careful to not iron creases in the same spots, or you can cause the fibers to break.
Linen also creates an enormous amount of lint, and you can expect to find drifts of linen lint on, and under the furniture. You may also find balls of lint under the bottom sheet, so prepare to have to vacuum your mattress between sheet changes.
Linen is a nice fiber, but it isn't the miracle that people online want you to believe it is. There is a reason that cotton is the most popular fabric for sheeting.

R6, who paid you to write that? The flannel sheet lobby?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | May 28, 2022 3:23 AM |
I tried satin sheets once and slid out of bed. No, I mean I literally landed on the floor with a loud thump.

If r6 had a blog I'd read it.

Ok, I bought into the whole Oprahs favorite things and ordered sheets and towels from cozy earth and she was telling the truth. I bought them during a sale but they were still pricey and worth every penny. Now as I can afford it I throw out my old sheet sets and replace them with cozy earth.

Percale for summer, sateen for the cooler months.

Target's Casaluna brand has 100% linen sheeting. For about 200 bucks I bought similar quality sheeting to the 400 dollar set I purchased elsewhere.

R6 no one paid me to write it. Just sharing my experience. I wouldn't take money to promote flannel sheets - I hate flannel sheets.
My favorite sheets are batiste. Very soft, very lightweight, I used them year round. When some were damaged I replaced them with Rachel Ashwell poplin, which are almost as light and smooth, but half the price.
I don't care for sateen, too clingy, I like a nice lightweight plain weave in long staple single ply cotton.

The lint would be a dealbreaker for me.

If you can, dry your linen sheets on an outdoor clothes line -you will probably love the crisp texture and the fresh scent -good quality linen sheets , cared for properly, are the best !

Just purchased some linen sheets, OP, and can’t wait to try them out!
Will do linen for summer, batiste cotton for autumn/spring and flannel cotton for winter.
Hang all my sheets out (year round) to dry, so no worries on the issues with over drying. (Thanks KansasBoy!)
It is a luxury to bask in nice sheets!
Wishing everyone a pleasant and happy summer on the eve of the holiday that (unofficially) heralds summer in N. America! Enjoy those sheets!
