"Worst Little Police Department In Texas"

Keystone Kopps, 2022, The Pride of Uvalde"

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 106June 1, 2022 1:16 AM

Watching another Uvalde press conference/fiasco, this time starring the Texas DPS Director who, like his predecessors, is tripping over his forked tongue. Oh, Lord, now he's squeezing out crocodile tears!

Thankfully MSNBC's reporters are there and pitching the hardball questions.

by Anonymousreply 1May 27, 2022 5:10 PM

I LOVE keystone cops!

by Anonymousreply 2May 27, 2022 5:12 PM

Listen, I'm pro-police to the max!...

...That was an embarrassing show. The vast majority wait until the shooting stops?

by Anonymousreply 3May 27, 2022 5:15 PM

Sorry for all caps, but its warranted here.

Mister police chief, soooooo nice of you to FUCKING BLAME THE TEACHERS for the propped open doors.

Bitch, maybe teachers propped them open because THEY THOUGHT THE GODDAMN RESOURCE OFFICER WAS ON CAMPUS, NOT AWOL.

by Anonymousreply 4May 27, 2022 5:17 PM

Thanks, OP. I'd been looking for that picture.

Equipped and fancy. Expensive equipment and maybe not so much training.

How are the politicians explaining the existence of all this power and the inability to act? Isn't this equipment and power what they are always claiming is needed to combat this epidemic of violence?

What good did their fancy SWAT team do in this situation? It's theater and games.

The police should be mortified. They won't be, but they should.

Resigning would be a nice touch, too.

by Anonymousreply 5May 27, 2022 5:23 PM

No excuse for not going in, except Texas is so backwards. The new procedure is to get in quickly.

by Anonymousreply 6May 27, 2022 5:27 PM

I'm starting to think that most cops are incompetent

by Anonymousreply 7May 27, 2022 5:29 PM

And after all the "Swat Team" bluster, it was Border Patrol officers who took the bastard out. We pay these people to play Dress Up Dolly.

by Anonymousreply 8May 27, 2022 6:04 PM

They could have defunded the police in Uvalde, saved some money and residents would NOT have been impeded from going into the school to try to save their own children.

by Anonymousreply 9May 27, 2022 6:13 PM

And it was only one person too.. You would’ve thought a small army was inside the school.

That is a damn disgrace not having proper protocols in place when dealing with an active shooter.

by Anonymousreply 10May 27, 2022 6:16 PM

They should all suicide.

by Anonymousreply 11May 27, 2022 6:21 PM

It makes no sense. They are saying (1) we didn’t know where he/ they were and officers would be in danger; and (2) we smartly barricaded him in one classroom so we could get others out safely. These two things cannot both be true.

by Anonymousreply 12May 27, 2022 7:08 PM

Agree with all of the above. However, this is the kind of deflection Repukes love because it takes the heat off their pro-gun mania. And yes, coppers, Repukes will throw you under the bus when it suits their purposes,

by Anonymousreply 13May 27, 2022 7:15 PM

Don’t mess with Texas, hahaha. Oh, the irony.

by Anonymousreply 14May 27, 2022 7:22 PM

Children need to be taught during their shooter drills that when they call 911 to specifically mention an open box of donuts by the door.

by Anonymousreply 15May 27, 2022 7:25 PM

R15, in the midst of this horror, I laughed!g

by Anonymousreply 16May 27, 2022 7:28 PM

Awful and terribly embarrassing

by Anonymousreply 17May 27, 2022 7:30 PM

My son was in the military and had this to say: “They should have ignored it, that's not a lawful order and goes against active shooter response protocol..m they base theirs off our security forces.” The should have gone in.

by Anonymousreply 18May 27, 2022 7:34 PM

So we are never supposed to criticize police, they get lauded with parades and mentions at every fucking sporting event in the country, we pay their salaries, we give them uniforms and sunglasses and belts and all their other accessories so they can stroll around trying to look cool...and when children are begging to be saved from a crazed gunman said police do nothing at all because it was scary and they might have gotten hurt.

Fuck these people. I was never on the all cops are bastards bandwagon but I'm thinking of jumping on soon.

by Anonymousreply 19May 27, 2022 7:34 PM

Perhaps after we as a society have passed through another couple of decades of police grossly abusing their power, making every situation to which they're called worse., terrorizing minorities, standing down when they're really needed, accruing military equipment, and murdering unarmed civilians, we'll be ready to reconsider 'Defund the Police' as part of a path to the solution to their bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 20May 27, 2022 7:39 PM

Most of them are fatties, the blubber should have been sufficient body armor.

by Anonymousreply 21May 27, 2022 7:50 PM

They’re a small town force which wasn’t used to something like this.

The Orlando department waited outside pulse for several hours before going in and they got nothing but praise. And they were much better suited to handle it than this small Texas town was!

by Anonymousreply 22May 27, 2022 7:56 PM

I hate linking to NY Post, but this is interesting to me.

It seems their department had a preparedness drill a couple of months ago. They knew the protocol; had practiced for just such an event, as every law enforcement agency does, but still screwed up.

They knew what to do. Line up, start firing, and continue advancing until the target is neutralized. It's scary and dangerous, but that's the job.

R22

Nothing against you but...that excuse isn't good enough. Why do they have that fucking equipment?

Perhaps they should learn to use it before they spend the taxpayer's money and pose for pictures.

Oh, and then protect and serve.

by Anonymousreply 24May 27, 2022 8:18 PM

I have a friend who was at Pulse and he went through hell during the ordeal. LE made the people who got out wait in the lot for hours while the fuckery unfolded.

by Anonymousreply 25May 27, 2022 8:22 PM

They are cowards. Plain and simple. Cowards.

by Anonymousreply 26May 27, 2022 8:24 PM

I’m a retired teacher from Michigan. The last training I went to was about five years ago. Even at that time we were told that as soon as sheriffs arrived they would enter the building and start looking and clearing it immediately. No waiting. I was stunned when I heard how they handled it there.

by Anonymousreply 27May 27, 2022 8:25 PM

Hell I bet the NRA sponsored the event.

by Anonymousreply 32May 27, 2022 8:32 PM

by Anonymousreply 35May 27, 2022 8:37 PM

Abbott is hawking his mental health helpline at his news conference now and soliciting donations for the community: it started at 4:30 EST. MSNBC

by Anonymousreply 36May 27, 2022 8:39 PM

Cosplay cops. No one is asking anyone to be a hero, these cops are being asked to do their job. Cops are posted at the entrance. How did that person bypass security ?

by Anonymousreply 37May 27, 2022 8:41 PM

Abbott's career is finished.

by Anonymousreply 38May 27, 2022 8:43 PM

I believe they said the Security Cop was MIA from his post, R37.

by Anonymousreply 39May 27, 2022 8:44 PM

This is what happens when only low IQ idiots are allowed into the police force. These Neanderthals get paid a lot of money to do fuckall. They should earn minimum wage because they are useless!

by Anonymousreply 40May 27, 2022 8:51 PM

That's a lot of expensive and high-powered gear they have. Too bad they are cowards. Seems the border control guy was the only one that had a set.

by Anonymousreply 41May 27, 2022 8:53 PM

These stupid dick-tripping cowards make Barney Fife look like Rambo.

by Anonymousreply 42May 27, 2022 8:55 PM

Meanwhile at his news conference: Abbott wants only to take questions about benefits available to the community (e.g. replacing someone's broken eyeglasses), then he claims he'll discuss other unrelated things.

I hope his wheels unlock.

by Anonymousreply 43May 27, 2022 8:56 PM

So tired of hearing excuses. We give police a lot of trust and leeway when it comes to tough decisions regarding whether someone is dangerous because of the benefit they provide to the public, but if they aren’t willing to take out baddies when they are killing people, then what is the point? There is a problem and it needs to be fixed.

by Anonymousreply 44May 27, 2022 9:02 PM

Hey, we did a hell of a great job hassling the parents; even cuffed some of them. Damn insurrectionists. We're heroes, dammit.

by Anonymousreply 45May 27, 2022 9:08 PM

Police manage to take at least 50% of most municipal budgets (scare tactics, OT + war gear), then often refuse to do their jobs if they're slighted in any way (in my town the cops were so butt-hurt by BLM they didn't do any regular street work for months and admitted as much).

Also since most cops are local kids with some sort of revenge agenda and they've all shown themselves as MAGA in the last few years, you know most of them hate the populace they're supposed to protect.

They're often the same population as someone who would buy an AR-15 and shoot up a school - aggrieved, angry men with small penises.

by Anonymousreply 46May 27, 2022 9:12 PM

Abbott just snapped his fingers and wheeled off. Exit, stage left. End of press conference (to groans of "Unbelievable!" from the shocked journalists).

Stick a fork in him ... and that foghorn/leghorn mayor - they're done.

by Anonymousreply 47May 27, 2022 9:16 PM

We'll only get gun reform when police unions come out in favor of semi/automatic rifle bans, proper background check and interview process, gun registries and gun insurance requirements, etc. Since cops are expected to stop gun-wielding lunatics and be in harms way (arguably), they're in a very good position to argue that for the wellbeing of THE COPS (and by extension, the public), we need to get these ridiculous firearms off the streets.

Nevermind red flag laws - if someone buys an AR-15, that's a red flag.

by Anonymousreply 48May 27, 2022 9:21 PM

Those Texas cops are pussies. The cops who laughed when the Biden bus was run off the road in Texas are disgusting. Sounds like along with their governor and senators, a lot of the police force in Tex-ass are lazy, garbage, opportunistic pieces of shit.

Vote for better, Texas. They won't become better people on their own. THEY WON'T.

by Anonymousreply 49May 27, 2022 9:35 PM

I agree, r48; and I say that as a gun owner. If I suddenly decided that I "needed" the kind of fire power an assault rifle provides, I would certainly be up to no good.

by Anonymousreply 50May 27, 2022 9:42 PM

Why is that idiot cop wearing night vision at 12 noon? That shit costs eight to twenty grand.

Does anyone have a problem with cops that are kitted out more than Seal Team 6. Or cops who look like they'd stroke out bending over to touch their toes like the front row left one. Like his ass would run into a school; he couldn't run period.

by Anonymousreply 51May 27, 2022 9:45 PM

r27, I'm a teacher, too, in Texas. My last training was two years ago, and the message was the same as what you heard. I was also surprised by the handling, but I am not so surprised that a door was left open (although that wouldn't happen in my school). It's Uvalde, not inner city Houston.

I don't mean to sound cynical or excuse the cops, but no one is more pleased with these revelations than Greg fucking Abbott. Having a clear villain in the cops means that people are going to stop talking about the GOP's culpability or the need for gun control.

by Anonymousreply 52May 27, 2022 11:10 PM

[quote]That's a lot of expensive and high-powered gear they have. Too bad they are cowards. Seems the border control guy was the only one that had a set.

I read that he was forty miles away and came running to the scene because he had a child in the school. They should have let the unarmed parents storm the building-- they would have at least been able to save some of the kids.

by Anonymousreply 53May 27, 2022 11:12 PM

The reason why they're terrible is because we, as a nation, have been shitting on cops-hard- for around 10 years now. There are certain communities that feel they are 'above policing'- (they're not). Because of the vitriol, it has become a really unpopular job. Even more so than it was before. It's one thing to put yourself in harms way if you know that there will be some level of gratitude/psychic income for it....but now they don't even get that. They get criticized and hated on, no matter what they do. So, the intelligent people that were drawn to the profession (there *were* some before) have gone elsewhere....and they've had to staff out entire forces with low IQ morons. It's like what has happened with teachers. We made it very clear that we didn't value them....so the smarter people, that wanted to be valued, went elsewhere.

Now we're in a clusterfuck and we can't get out- we're just going to keep spinning and spinning as a nation. The cops will get blamed for this (understandably- standing around and mouth breathing while an active shooter is just a few yards away from you is NOT acceptable) but they'll just dig in their heels more and want to do less for the cop hating public.

by Anonymousreply 54May 27, 2022 11:33 PM

by Anonymousreply 56May 27, 2022 11:51 PM

Hi there, R54 again. I'm actually not a MAGAT- I loathe Trump as much as the next (sane) person. As much as the woke brigade wants to turn it into a political football, the issue of policing in this country should be be bipartisan one. And also rooted in common sense, which it sadly isn't, anymore. People want to have their cake and eat it too- they want to defund when it suits them....and then when something like this happens, they're crying and saying they did a shit job.

It's just common sense that people with even a *basic* intelligence won't put up with being vilified all the time in a thankless job where they're also expected to risk their lives for others. And they're not even paid well. Hell, I wouldn't want to it...and I'm sure neither would you, 54. Only an idiot would want this job in 2022. Which brings us to the bottom-of-the-barrel guys standing around just watching the shooting unfold. Additionally, they won't even invest money to *train* them properly because of the idiotic cries to defund. There have been big budget cuts. So, like I said.....you're left with mouth breathers.

r54 defense attorney here. Cops aren’t willing to earn respect, they want it via fear of their authority.

In 20 years of practice and thousands of cases, I can honestly say I have never met a cop who won’t lie. Maybe a little white lie like forgetting some aspect of an arrest in a report or “remembering it differently” all the way to outright fabrication and perjury. And the shittier part is they all know it and will cover for each other.

by Anonymousreply 63May 28, 2022 12:55 AM

Obviously R54 hasn't been watching "We Own This City" on HBO.

by Anonymousreply 64May 28, 2022 1:02 AM

R15 The good ol' donut joke. Always a crowd pleaser.

In all this horror I needed that bit of gallows humor.

by Anonymousreply 65May 28, 2022 1:06 AM

Bet the shooter was surprised it took so long for the police to come in. Guess he just kept shooting as long as he was in there. In addition to the teachers and 19 students who died, there were 17 more children injured (shot). They didn’t even disclose that info until a couple of days after the shooting. Those students were found in 4 classrooms. Still not clear how many other students were in the school and how and when they got out.

by Anonymousreply 66May 28, 2022 1:08 AM

Thank you for sharing your experience.

I have fortunately have had little interaction with cops. However, Alex Villanueva has popped up on my radar screen. Only because I KNOW Tiger Woods was under the influence and should have been tested and charged for his driving accident last year.

Following Villanueva since this event, he has reportedly been a bully, gone after people, and supported “police gangs”. The guy is an absolute thug.

If the police who lied and allowed the slaughter of the children in Texas are anything like the LA County Sheriff (Villanueva), then they are corrupt as all get out.

by Anonymousreply 67May 28, 2022 1:23 AM

Even in the case of “minor” incidents, it’s always been my contention that calling the cops only makes things worse.

by Anonymousreply 68May 28, 2022 1:35 AM

R54 you make a lot of sense. There needs to be better recruitment and training for cops. But the job is so reviled it’s tough to get better quality people on board. No easy answers.

How much does a cop make in a little town in Texas? I’m sure the border cops make more with lots of benefits. So who wants to be a small town cop?

by Anonymousreply 69May 28, 2022 1:36 AM

R62 thinks all cops were Albert Einsteins before 2022. Hysterical. Claims not to be a Trumpster but uses "woke" as a pejorative like Republicans do

This is the talking point Republicans are using to avoid blaming the cops and gun culture. Just blame "defund the police" (even though the police department was well-funded) or "woke" culture or lack of religion (even though European countries with liberal laws and tons of atheists don't seem to have a new mass shooting every week)

by Anonymousreply 70May 28, 2022 1:37 AM

R69, being a small town a cop is a hell of a lot easier than being a cop in a big city with lots of crime. I bet a lot of people would like to be small town cops, just hand out parking tickets all day then collect a nice pension

by Anonymousreply 71May 28, 2022 1:38 AM

The police are a bunch of smug assholes. I've never wanted to reach into a television screen and smack someone as much as I did today watching a recent press conference. You should not be patting yourself on the back and praising the bravery of your fellow police officers when they stood outside the classrooms for 40 minutes. Half of the children died WHILE the police were standing outside the door. Even if they didn't screw up royally, take a break from patting yourself on the back for "bravery" while families are grieving the deaths of their children. Are police officers in some sort of cult or something? Low IQ? Mentally ill from having a somewhat stressful job? Some cops went into the school to save their own children and didn't come back for others. Then they attacked parents who tried to do the same.

by Anonymousreply 72May 28, 2022 1:49 AM

Some cops went into the school to save their own children and didn't come back for others. Then they attacked parents who tried to do the same.

Not only that, didn’t they prohibit and physically restrain (via handcuffs/tasers/etc.) parents who were desperately urging them to do something during their “waiting period”? One parent was handcuffed and when they released her, she snuck into the school and retrieved her child herself. She did more than the cops!

Then Greg Abbott has the audacity to squawk about the heroism of the cops while releasing few details of the massacre. Now he blames others for misinforming the public while he was at fundraisers and blowing off the ordeal only to step in and feed the populace untrue pablum. The man is a sociopathic ghoul, and I hope this comes back to haunt him in multiple ways.

This is outrageous, and I would imagine the parents (especially of those children who died or were injured) are incandescent with rage. I’m livid just hearing about it.

by Anonymousreply 73May 28, 2022 2:00 AM

I'm hoping a big bunch of these cowards blow their own heads off with their service weapons as soon as possible. I think it would help.

Greg Abbott should be thrown into a river still strapped into his wheelchair. Maybe if he's holding a loaded gun it can save him, right?

They're all so filthy and degraded and still the evil monsters are lining up to re-elect him. They deserve this in a way, they voted for him, they got him.

by Anonymousreply 74May 28, 2022 2:02 AM

I would love to think that these poor kids and teachers didn’t die in vain; that this horror starts a chain of events where good overcomes evil; Abbott resigns and Cruz’s political career is over . . . but not a damn thing will happen in the end. Nothing will change, I’m very sorry to say.

I was booking a trip to Las Vegas, and was reminded on some website about the guy who killed 60 people and wounded over 400 while in his suite at the Mandalay Bay, and I thought, holy shit, I’ve completely forgotten about that. This was a couple of days before this latest nightmare.

This afternoon, I was watching Nicole Wallace's coverage of the Houston protests outside the convention center in which the NRA was holding its annual meeting, and noting the body language of the police covering the protestors. They were at heightened alert, uptight and rigid, as though they clearly believed that anti-gun protestors were the greater danger. For a hot moment at the beginning of the coverage, it looked a bit like a couple of them were trying to intimidate correspondent Shaquille Brewster by proximity. Lots of 'respect mah authoritah' posturing where they were hanging around in groups.

Like R31, I'm not a fan.

The Orlando police department received great praise for their standing down during the massacre by democratic officials such as Hillary Clinton. Their inaction caused so many unnecessary deaths.

It’s times like this that it’s obviously how little the Democratic Party cares about LGBT people and Latinos when only gays and Latinos are the target. If trans were specifically targeted dens wouldn’t have celebrated the outrageously inactive Orlando PD.

If police want to look better to the public they should start ousting the bad cops within their own orgs instead of covering for them. These craven fucks in Texas need to be made to turn in their badges and given the job of keeping the graves of the slain clean and mowed (if they can even handle THAT job). LE need to root out the white supremacists and cosplayers in their ranks and kick them the fuck out. No excuses on them not knowing who they are because THE PUBLIC knows which cops are good cops and which are bad ones.

Think about where you grew up: you knew which law enforcement officers were ones who were there to do the job, make the busts, and which ones would let the rich people or their buddies slide. You knew some of the people who the bad ones let off, "lost" evidence, etc. Yet, they kept their jobs and their pensions right along with the cops who would go into a burning building to rescue a pewpaw and his six cats or take a bullet to protect a woman who was being threatened by her exBF.

When people say a problem is "too big" to change or "too complex" to fix they are lazy and cowardly. Change happens slowly, then quickly, then you've done it. But it won't happen if you don't get up off of your ass and start.

by Anonymousreply 87May 28, 2022 11:47 AM

Bankrupting their own city/county will just destroy the entire community. So not only will the children and their families have suffered, so will everyone else. That’s probably the next likely outcome in this nightmare.

SO...is our consensus just plain cowardice OR being completely unprepared for anything other than a traffic stop? I would LOVE to assume that if they had ballistic vests and ARs, they would've run into the building without hesitation.

Did they ever say where the onsite security person was instead of being where he should've been? I figure they're looking for him and the teacher who left that door open maybe to prosecute.

The keystone kops had recently been trained on an active shooter situation. Read more, with proof, here.

R79, that must be why most Latinos and gay people are Dems.

All the openly gay members of the House and the Senate are Democrats. Every. Single. One.

It's your fellow Republicans who can't stand gay people or Latinos. Look at the freepers who started calling the shooter "an illegal" when they heard his name. Turns out he was born in the US. Oops.

Those assholes know people are pissed off, and now they are afraid.

by Anonymousreply 95May 28, 2022 7:02 PM

THEY need protection? From who, the grieving parents of the kids they let get massacred? Un-fucking-believeable to anyone NOT Republican!

STFU ABOUT BEING PROLIFE ASSHOLES

They should retire. Immediately. No pensions.

by Anonymousreply 97May 29, 2022 2:39 AM

Good ole fashion town pitchfork time. Fuck these cowardly pigs

by Anonymousreply 98May 29, 2022 2:41 AM

I don't think it was just cowardice, I think they purposely held back because they falsely believed the shooter was "an illegal" and wanted him to kill lots of people so they could score some political points against "illegals"

There, I said it!

by Anonymousreply 99May 29, 2022 3:06 AM

100!

by Anonymousreply 100May 29, 2022 3:25 AM

R99 Well, that's dark...

by Anonymousreply 101May 29, 2022 10:08 AM

Agree with R99. I'll also throw these two remarks into the ring: the more school shooting there are, the easier it is for Republicans to convince parents to go the homeschooling/charter route this further destroying public education and conservatives care more about guns than living kids or they would propose laws to protect them, like fetuses.

by Anonymousreply 102May 29, 2022 11:52 AM

Do we really expect this police force to protect Biden and Dr Jill in Uvalde right now? For god’s sake!

by Anonymousreply 103May 29, 2022 5:04 PM

Kudos to MSNBC's Yasmin Vossoughian, Morgan Chesty and Tom Winter for their solid coverage of the slaughter in Texas. They took a hard news sensibility to the small town of Uvalde, but related to the townspeople and their disaster with unmistakably genuine concern. Unpretentious, just the right tone of professionalism and unabashed empathy.

by Anonymousreply 104June 1, 2022 12:59 AM

No, they have their own security. Worlds above some local yokels and cowards.

by Anonymousreply 105June 1, 2022 1:11 AM

The Secret Service protects the President.

More good guys with guns, huh?

Kill yourselves. All of you. Fucking pathetic excuses for humans.
