What Blender do you use?
And what would you recommend?
I needed a new blender and didn't wanna spend a lot because I rarely use it, so I ended up going with a hand blender this time because the reviews are terrific on every site I checked. I use it mostly for drinks and smoothies, so this would be perfect, but I hear it does blend ice very well too.

I use the Vitamix but it's too powerful for regular blending

This is a new low, even for Datalounge.

My sister uses the Ninja r1 and lives by their products. Everything they make she will buy. I considered buying the lowest Ninja blender ($100 still) but I don’t need that. I hardly use a blender to spend $100 on it. Something small and simple but that will work.
R1 I saw those online.

Immersion blender? I now use a Cuisinart, which I bought several years ago. Nothing fancy, but a reliable workhorse. I make a lot of soups and other things that require immersion blending. The hoity-toity one I bought at Williams Sonoma before the Cuisinart one didn't work well and fell apart quickly, despite being expensive. Lesson learned. Sorry I do not remember what I paid for the Cuisinart, but I know it was under $100 at the time.

I'd have to ask Cook and she would wonder why I suddenly showed an interest in the how rather than the what.
My job is to approve menus and judge the "what" the appears. And she is excellent.
Of course I avoid cream soups, usually, and I am known for preferring not to have the ladies'-tiny-mouthed-mince made of every vegetable and fruit.

I have a commercial Vitamix Vitaprep 3.
I like it when the lights dim.

How the hell do you use a hand blender to crush ice and make smoothies?

I bought something called a Scozer blender on Amazon and it’s the worst piece of crap. It’s a hot and cold blender with two different vessels. It smells like it’s burning when I use it and the controls are confusing.

Vitamix. It is a must for a serious kitchen. I also use a Waring immersion blender by the stove for soups, gravy, etc. R7... I would answer but you apparently have spent no time in a kitchen.

I have a KitchenAid cordless immersion blender (multiple speeds) and love it.

Blendtec blender, which was life-changing, and a Breville immersion blender with attachments.

I have an ancient Oster blender that I rarely use, but it still comes in handy when you need that kind of a machine. Primarily I use a Cuisinart immersion blender that works fine for making purees and smoothies.

Vitamix, don't know the model. Love it.

Mine was a work gift- I don't know if I'd spend that much on a blender otherwise.

Another vote for Vitamix.
When we had a hurricane last year, the Vitamix and a large Le Creuset pot were the first household items I rushed to safety when the water started coming in.

1000 W cheapo bullet blender. Best purchase I ever made. Smoothies, frozen fruit/iced drinks, crushed ice, grind oats/nuts for flour and coffee beans.

My Blendtec was refurbished and cost 180 six years ago. It has a1560 watt motor with 3 hp peak horsepower. You can get jars in various sizes. At the time, Vitamix was the only alternative among high speed blenders. Now there are many. If I were to buy one now, I'd buy a Vitamix, particularly since they now make smaller ones, but I'm completely happy with Blendtec.
I'm sure Ninja, Waring, Cuisinart, Kitchenaid and Breville's high speed models are fine, too.

I have a 20 year-old Oster beehive that I bought for a boyfriend who said he wanted one but then never used it, a Nutri-Bullet (gift), and an immersion blender with a small food processor attachment (gift).
The immersion blender is great for making mayonnaise or blending things that are already cooking. For a shake with frozen fruit, a regular blender is easier to use as you don't have to physically and repeatedly attack the frozen fruit like you do with a stick blender. I don't know how you'd chop ice with a stick blender unless you also have a food processor attachment.
Nothing compares to a Vitamix or Blendtek, but I have enough stuff and don't need to turn stones into talcum powder.

I hire former piss porn actors to chew it with their dentures and spit it into a glass so I can feed it to my dogs.

The beehive is cool. Waring has always had good blenders because it makes commercial models for bars. Most restaurants have Vitamixes, and a lot of smoothie bars have Blendtecs.
I would get a bullet blender, not an immersion model, if I was not a cook and only wanted a blender for smoothies. The immersion blender is an extra toy for cooks who want to puree a soup in a stock pot or use the attachments for an electric whisk or mini-food processor. One drawback is that they cansuction themselves to the bottom of pans rather than gliding through a soup or sauce.
For the cooks among us, both Vitamix and Blendtec and possibly others offer bullet blender-type jars for making smoothies. Vitamix also offers a food processor attachmment and a jar for the Ascent models that lets you knead dough. An unaffiliated company sells tampers with lids for Blendtecs and a mason jar adapter for both models.
I have had no problem with my refurbished model, which I've used over 600 times according to the counter.
