Do you still have a landline phone?

I’m thinking about cutting off my line.

It’s weird because I’ve had this number for 20 years. Now, it’s only spam calls.

by Anonymousreply 26May 26, 2022 6:33 AM

You make up a lot of really stupid posts, OP. I wonder what makes you so desperate for pathetic attention?

by Anonymousreply 1May 26, 2022 2:32 AM

No. I haven't for years.

by Anonymousreply 2May 26, 2022 2:33 AM

I can’t give it up because I love it when my tricks choke me out with the cord.

by Anonymousreply 3May 26, 2022 2:36 AM

I really should but I don’t fully trust my cell phone to always work.

by Anonymousreply 4May 26, 2022 2:38 AM

Yes. The main reason being that I don't want to give out my mobile phone number to every business and online retailer that asks for one so that when they have their big data leak (and they will, statistically speaking) all those spam/vishing calls get redirected to my mobile phone.

Our pencil maker group has agreed to underwrite some of the costs of you landline Princess phone owners.

Yes, I have a landline phone but I get too many solicitors phone calls!!!

by Anonymousreply 7May 26, 2022 2:44 AM

Of course not…haven’t had one for 20 years, at least

by Anonymousreply 8May 26, 2022 2:46 AM

I inherited my parents' phone number after they died, and have kept the same number, in preference to calling everyone I know for them to update it. It dates back to 1963.

by Anonymousreply 9May 26, 2022 2:47 AM

I moved my landline number to an Ooma, an internet-based phone.

It was so cheap—like a few dollars per month. But then it started being taxed by the government so baud to start paying a yearly tax of over $100.

Now, I only give the number out to businesses so it’s just spam. It’s a 212 number. It’ll hurt to give it up

by Anonymousreply 10May 26, 2022 2:51 AM

Yes. I have 2 phone numbers/lines. One has been used as both work & personal for over 30 years. The 2d is an unlisted and unpublished number that I am thinking of getting rid of. When I did a recent audit with Verizon to see about reducing my rates we took off all kinds of charges fir services I didn't need or use, I considered dropping the 2d line. Still considering it.

I've refused to let it go in case of emergency. You do know your landlines work without electricity or being charged, right?

by Anonymousreply 11May 26, 2022 2:52 AM

I still have my landline for emergency use. Once I started remote work, I realized that I was getting nothing but constant spam calls during the weekday, so I learned to keep my phone off the hook until the evening.

by Anonymousreply 12May 26, 2022 3:02 AM

Disconnected it 2 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 13May 26, 2022 3:04 AM

I retired from AT&T and I get a landline at a discounted price, it would save me a few bucks to ditch it but not that much. The main reason I have considered quitting it is all the spam calls I get on it, way more than my cell. I don't even answer it unless I recognize the number or the business shows up on the caller ID.

It nice to have another number to give out to businesses, few people have my cell #.

by Anonymousreply 14May 26, 2022 3:05 AM

I’ve learned to make up a number when businesses ask for one

by Anonymousreply 15May 26, 2022 3:07 AM

I haven't had a landline since 2006, and I remember thinking at the time that everyone had ditched theirs except me.

by Anonymousreply 16May 26, 2022 3:08 AM

How much is your monthly mobile phone bill? Who’s your carrier?

by Anonymousreply 17May 26, 2022 3:09 AM

R12 What would the emergency be?

by Anonymousreply 18May 26, 2022 3:32 AM

^^^ Power outages.

by Anonymousreply 19May 26, 2022 3:37 AM

Yes. Do portable house phones count as landlines?

by Anonymousreply 20May 26, 2022 3:53 AM

^^^ They still have to be charged - so in power outages you could be out of luck - but otherwise yes.

by Anonymousreply 21May 26, 2022 3:55 AM

Got rid of mine 11 years ago. It got to the point t where only one person was calling me on it sporadically so I never listened to the voicemails. I just migrated them to my cell.

Have not missed it at all.

by Anonymousreply 22May 26, 2022 3:55 AM

Yes. And no smartphone. Never. Ever.

by Anonymousreply 23May 26, 2022 3:57 AM

I miss landline phones. Hate being connected 24/7. Spam calls are the worst so now I mute everything. Don't bother adding your number to the national do not call list. What a joke.

by Anonymousreply 24May 26, 2022 4:11 AM

Still have one. They will work in power outages during emergencies. Plus, the sound quality is much better on landlines than cell, esp for international calls. Although the quality is starting to deteriorate, it’s still superior. Both parties can talk at the same time. You don’t get the same interruptions during conversations that you do on cell phones.

The spam calls are ridiculous though. Just keep the phone off the hook during the day, as someone said earlier.

by Anonymousreply 25May 26, 2022 5:08 AM

R3 made me laugh.
