British lads

Do British boys generally have more difficulty showing or expressing affection and vulnerability? As compared to say American men. Been in a long term situation with one and wondering to what extent some of the issues I’ve been facing are cultural. I know there’s that whole “stiff upper lip” thing….

Would be curious to hear the experiences of any Americans on here that have dated / are dating British men.

by Anonymousreply 27June 17, 2022 11:02 PM

No. Maybe he only did it to spite you.

by Anonymousreply 1May 25, 2022 8:41 PM

Maybe, R1…

by Anonymousreply 2May 25, 2022 8:51 PM

Probably just you. OP. British men are much more self-aware and expressive / emotive than American men.

by Anonymousreply 3June 5, 2022 6:47 PM

Lol at R3’s obvious attempt at sarcasm.

by Anonymousreply 4June 5, 2022 6:57 PM

What's he like with other Brits?

by Anonymousreply 5June 5, 2022 7:10 PM

You’re better off sticking with an American from experience.

by Anonymousreply 6June 13, 2022 3:06 AM

A boy like that will give you sorrow. You'll meet another boy tomorrow. One of your own kind. Stick to your own kind.

by Anonymousreply 7June 13, 2022 3:09 AM

Smelly foreskins. That’s all.

by Anonymousreply 8June 17, 2022 12:15 AM

I don't think R3 was being sarcastic at all -That's been my experience with British men, too.

by Anonymousreply 9June 17, 2022 1:30 AM

I wish I could meet me an uncut British lad - move to England, live happily ever after.

by Anonymousreply 10June 17, 2022 1:36 AM

chavs don't seem to have that problem

^ the tears tat means he's killed someone, right?

by Anonymousreply 12June 17, 2022 9:10 AM

You’re talking nonsense OP. British men are in touch with their emotions. They don’t have to carry assault rifles to go to the supermarket.

by Anonymousreply 13June 17, 2022 9:14 AM

To be clear, OP, you want to hear from Americans who have dated both Brit and US men? Do you want British men to speak of themselves? Do you want to hear from Americans who want to date Brits, but haven't yet?

by Anonymousreply 14June 17, 2022 9:18 AM

I want to date an Englishman but only upper class, thank you. Oh and uncut, it goes without saying.

by Anonymousreply 15June 17, 2022 9:28 AM

I think it’s another stealth thread to get people to vent their prejudices against British people and the UK in general. There have been a few recently, and they always end up talking about the monarchy, foreskins and teeth. In no particular order.

by Anonymousreply 16June 17, 2022 10:12 AM

I like cute British men, conversational, sense of humor dry wit, affectionate, adorable English accent, I'd be all hands and cover them all over with a thousand sweet kisses, British men taste so good! I've had more than a few over the years...

by Anonymousreply 17June 17, 2022 10:33 AM

Yes, OP, they can be oddly picky about what they talk about and get nervous or slightly offended if you bring up something that crosses a line, like politics. You can be having a nice normal conversation with them, but if you go too far off the subject you quickly discover there are some things you just don't talk about.

R16 the OP is worded awkwardly, so you might be right. There's a few posters here who have clearly never been out of the US who always bring up the teeth thing. It's like how on Twitter now the trend among ignorant Zoomer teens is to say "Bri'ish" (in the most irritating manner possible) anytime they come across a British person saying anything with a different spelling or using a word they aren't familiar with.

They think they're making fun of the person, but they are really just showing how insulated and unsophisticated they are.

by Anonymousreply 18June 17, 2022 10:49 AM

you have to elaborate on the "issues" you're facing in your long-term "situation," OP. Does he refuse to watch Steel Magnolias with you? Does he roll his eyes when you start wailing over perceived slights from your mother or one of your co-workers?

by Anonymousreply 19June 17, 2022 10:58 AM

UK here. I was brought up to never discuss money, politics or religion with people I did not know. It’s sensible advice.

Unfortunately the effect of Thatcherism still brings out the worst in people when they want to brag about their earnings, property, etc. Add to that the toxic brew of Brexit, which has caused serious division and has unleashed people’s resentment about everything. Religion seems a pretty safe option by comparison.

by Anonymousreply 20June 17, 2022 2:26 PM

Vulgar new money is the same anywhere.

by Anonymousreply 21June 17, 2022 2:50 PM

R18, Glottal stops were not permitted when I was growing up. My very proper Irish granny would have held me to the fire. Politicians like Tony Blair began using them to appear “relatable”, even though he spoke like Princess Margaret otherwise. Now even Prince William uses them.

by Anonymousreply 22June 17, 2022 2:59 PM

Glottal Stops are so lame.

At least that Geezer Jamie Oliver doesn't use the Glottal Stops.

by Anonymousreply 23June 17, 2022 10:16 PM

A universal truth: When it comes to British lads, the best asses always are the dirtiest.

by Anonymousreply 24June 17, 2022 10:34 PM

British lads are really into sneakers.

by Anonymousreply 25June 17, 2022 10:38 PM

R20 Are the British welfare classes still moaning about Thatcher? That was 30 years ago, wasn't it?

by Anonymousreply 26June 17, 2022 10:52 PM

You left out that the stereotype that they’re all drunks r16. As such they can get more forthcoming and uninhabited after they’ve had a few.
