Kirsten Dunst

What is your opinion of her as an actress?

Would you consider her A List at any point?

WHO?

by Anonymousreply 1May 25, 2022 7:15 AM

What's the dirt on her?

by Anonymousreply 2May 25, 2022 7:23 AM

I think having Jesse Plemmons as her romantic partner has her trying for better parts.

by Anonymousreply 3May 25, 2022 7:27 AM

I live in Amway country so I was really enjoying her Showtime series 'On Becoming A God In Central Florida' and was bummed it was canceled. She was great in Fargo, Drop Dead Gorgeous, and The Virgin Suicides.

by Anonymousreply 4May 25, 2022 7:30 AM

She was very close to A list, or we probably should say she was a solid A- for a few years in early 2000s. After the Spider-man took off, she rose to the top as the leading actress, but she didn't have huge box office success, I remember she also had some issues (substance/alcohol?) and had to take a break for acting, her star dimmed, others like Scarlett Johansson quickly took over.

by Anonymousreply 5May 25, 2022 8:03 AM

I think she is a top “A” level actress, but not on a box office level?

I love her.

by Anonymousreply 6May 25, 2022 8:07 AM

She deserved an Oscar for Melancholia. Magnificent. A revelation.

by Anonymousreply 7May 25, 2022 8:13 AM

Never heard of her.

by Anonymousreply 8May 25, 2022 9:56 AM

She's okay. Some movies she's been in made lots of money or won critical praise, so she's more than B list.

by Anonymousreply 9May 25, 2022 10:00 AM

Was wonderful in "Elizabethtown".

I think it was severe depression. She seems much happier now and has two young boys with Plemmons. Jesse Plemmons is a good actor, but I'm always worried about his health. He is heavily overweight and looks very unhealthy in candid pics. I just saw some shirtless pics of him on the beach and he's either not well or just doesn't take care of his body at all.

by Anonymousreply 11May 25, 2022 10:18 AM

Good actress often enough. B- list movie. A - List streaming quality series.

by Anonymousreply 12May 25, 2022 10:23 AM

I think she’s one of the best working today. She never turns in the same performance twice and since about 2010 she’s done so much interesting work. If there was any justice she’d have an Oscar for Melancholia and an Emmy for Fargo. I always thought she deserved a Supporting Actress nod for All Good Things as well.

by Anonymousreply 13May 25, 2022 10:23 AM

I really loved Kirsten in Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette.

by Anonymousreply 14May 25, 2022 10:25 AM

Drunkst.

by Anonymousreply 15May 25, 2022 10:52 AM

She's OK and at least an A-. Her looks are just too bland and forgettable

by Anonymousreply 16May 25, 2022 11:00 AM

D-list.

by Anonymousreply 17May 25, 2022 11:02 AM

She's a great actress.

One of the best child actors who's maintained a career as an adult.

Mona Lisa Smile wasn't the best movie but she was great in it as a WASP getting stung. THERE WILL BE CONSEQUENCES was delivered with such menace.

by Anonymousreply 18May 25, 2022 11:05 AM

She’s never been D-list. Probably B or as someone else posted, A-

I think she’s a great actress, and has been good since childhood. She certainly has the acting chops to carry a film.

by Anonymousreply 19May 25, 2022 11:08 AM

She is a totally ugly irrelevant fucking cuntbag. Just like you, OP.

by Anonymousreply 20May 25, 2022 11:19 AM

where's that amway series? dead?

by Anonymousreply 21May 25, 2022 11:39 AM

Love her as an actress, and she seems like a nice person to boot. I feel like I've grown up with her movies (she's around my age) and she's been around forever. It was nice to see her finally get an Oscar nod.

by Anonymousreply 22May 25, 2022 4:30 PM

She was great in Melancholia.

by Anonymousreply 23May 25, 2022 7:33 PM

She is probably considered B-list now.

by Anonymousreply 24May 26, 2022 3:40 AM

I mean, Jennifer Lawrence and that awful Mara thing are A List so does that distinction really matter anymore?

Dunst is a great actress with a handful of classics under her belt and there was a ton of goodwill around her Oscar nomination this year. She'll have a long career.

by Anonymousreply 25May 26, 2022 3:50 AM

R25 JLaw was an one-time red hot A list, but Mara never was, not even remotely close to A or A-, she might be a perfect Oscar bait actress, but she has no commercial blockbusters to elevate her to A list, which JLaw has with The Hunger Games etc, it's kinda strange you put these two names together.

by Anonymousreply 26May 26, 2022 4:00 AM

Surprise no one has mentioned "Interview with the vampire", she was a solid good actress even at a young tender age of 11.

by Anonymousreply 27May 26, 2022 4:25 AM

She was robbed of an Oscar I think.

by Anonymousreply 28June 1, 2022 8:30 PM

Moderately talented. Seems nice. I would've given her the Oscar over DeBose.

by Anonymousreply 29June 1, 2022 8:34 PM

She's a great actress, and she picks interesting projects. What more do you want?

by Anonymousreply 30June 1, 2022 8:38 PM

Isn't she on Sex and the City?

by Anonymousreply 31June 1, 2022 9:38 PM

I love her!

by Anonymousreply 32June 1, 2022 9:41 PM

I expect her to continue to contend for some of the best roles for years to come. Always delivers.

by Anonymousreply 33June 1, 2022 9:43 PM

Dumpst.

by Anonymousreply 34June 1, 2022 9:44 PM

Claire Danes > Kirsten Dunst > Reese Witherspoon

But I believe Kirsten has the best personality of the group, and is the one I could most imagine having as a friend.

by Anonymousreply 35June 1, 2022 10:01 PM

CHECK OUT ESSEX SERPENT, NWV.

by Anonymousreply 36June 1, 2022 10:03 PM

[quote] Jennifer Lawrence

I like that Dunst carries herself with more class and less vulgarity than a Jennifer Lawrence.

by Anonymousreply 37June 1, 2022 10:05 PM

Major talent and unique beauty.

by Anonymousreply 38June 3, 2022 3:30 AM

Has she been in anything lately?

by Anonymousreply 39June 3, 2022 9:32 PM

A-list celebrity, C-list actress

by Anonymousreply 40June 3, 2022 9:32 PM

A lot of people on here think she is nice....I saw in another celebrity run-ins thread that she was rude when they saw her in person. Any more gossip?

Loved her in The Virgin Suicides, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Mona Lisa Smile, and thought she was great as a racist-but-trying-to-grow supporting actor in Hidden Figures.

by Anonymousreply 41June 3, 2022 11:51 PM

Solidly A. Blockbusters, cult classics, weepy dramas. Oscar nominated. She doesn’t strike me as the attention-starved, paparazzi-phoning type, so there’s not a lot of interest in her personal life (probably what she wants) but I bet she’s at the top of a lot of casting director’s dream lists. She’s certainly chosen more interesting projects than just being the girlfriend role in most of her movies.

by Anonymousreply 42June 4, 2022 12:02 AM

I listened to the Awards Chatter podcast with her. I knew nothing about her. But she came across as very pleasant, smart, and level-headed.

She admitted, "I did the Spiderman movies so I would have enough money to do all the movies I want to do that don't pay and are difficult to finance."

by Anonymousreply 43June 4, 2022 12:05 AM

She has to be the most successful child star-turned-adult actress of her generation. Oddly, there were a lot of them in her era.

by Anonymousreply 44June 4, 2022 12:08 AM

[quote]She has to be the most successful child star-turned-adult actress of her generation. Oddly, there were a lot of them in her era.

I dunno, ScarJo and Michelle Williams are pretty close in age to her and were also child stars.

by Anonymousreply 45June 4, 2022 12:18 AM

Love Kiki.

by Anonymousreply 46June 4, 2022 12:24 AM

Ugly

by Anonymousreply 47June 4, 2022 12:25 AM

She should have been nominated for an Oscar for her role in "Melancholia."

by Anonymousreply 48June 4, 2022 12:28 AM

had coke fueled threesomes with franko per her cousin on here. it was quicky deleted.

therefore truth.

but we were all 20 something at some time.

by Anonymousreply 49June 4, 2022 12:29 AM

She had her wild days, it was somewhat documented. But she’s a former child and teen actress who made it through and is now highly respected and sought after.

I would have done drug fueled three ways with James Franco back then too.

by Anonymousreply 50June 4, 2022 12:37 AM

[quote]I would have done drug fueled three ways with James Franco back then too.

Sad. For all the tarnish on his reputation, I’d have them with him today. I’m sad.

by Anonymousreply 51June 4, 2022 12:40 AM

well, that makes sense, r51.

by Anonymousreply 52June 4, 2022 12:41 AM

Ok R51….same

by Anonymousreply 53June 4, 2022 12:42 AM

Absolutely love her. She’s highly underrated.

by Anonymousreply 54June 4, 2022 12:43 AM

at the beginning of the clip at R27 there's a mirror shot of Brad as he walks into the room, and it reflects his image

by Anonymousreply 55June 4, 2022 12:59 AM

^ Have you not seen the whole movie? Anne Rice's vampires cast reflections in mirrors and are not affected by crucifixes, holy water, garlic, and stakes through the heart. Sunlight, however, can kill them.

by Anonymousreply 56June 4, 2022 1:15 AM

I love Kiki D. I thought she was a great child actress, mediocre in her teen and young adult years, and a phenomenal actress since the early 2010’s. Also, Marie-Antoinette has become one of my favorite films of all time.

by Anonymousreply 57June 4, 2022 1:28 AM

[quote]mediocre in her teen and young adult years

I disagree. Drop Dead Gorgeous, Dick, and Bring it on were all pretty phenomenal performances in movies that she carried. Proved she can do comedy (extremely well) as well as drama.

I don’t know if many folks saw Bachelorette. It was a dreadfully unfunny play. No version of it should have worked. But as a movie, it was darkly, deeply funny. And it had Lizzy Caplan and Isla Fisher, so standing out as funny in the bitch role was especially impressive. She more than held her own against some of the best funny actresses their age.

by Anonymousreply 58June 4, 2022 2:08 AM

Ok actress. Not great. Has a touch of Down’s syndrome in her face.

by Anonymousreply 59June 4, 2022 2:25 AM

R45, re: ScarJo, true, although I must've slept through Michelle Williams as a child star. Natalie Portman and Christina Ricci are other ones who successfully bridged that gap I suppose.

by Anonymousreply 60June 4, 2022 2:30 AM

How did she end up with Jesse Plemons?

by Anonymousreply 61June 4, 2022 7:25 AM

I like her a lot and was so pissed that Covid essentially got her show On Becoming a God in Central Florida cancelled after it had already been renewed. It was very good and she was great in it both comedically and dramatically. Also, her season of Fargo with Jean Smart (who was excellent) was the best season so far. Melancholia and Drop Dead Gorgeous are also favorites.

by Anonymousreply 62June 4, 2022 7:36 AM

^^Yes R61, she ended up with Fat Damon but they seem happy.

by Anonymousreply 63June 4, 2022 7:39 AM

She is one of my favorite actresses. The only movie I disliked her in was the Power of the Dog but it was because of the movie not because of her. She was good in it, but I don't like Cumberbatch. There is something about him that bothers me.

by Anonymousreply 64June 4, 2022 7:43 AM

She is one of the best actresses of her generation, bar none. I grew up watching her in films for my entire childhood through my teens and into adulthood, so I feel a weird closeness to her. She has been in so many movies that I love, and her range in projects really runs the gamut. She seems very much at home in darker material (Interview with the Vampire, The Virgin Suicides, The Cat's Meow, All Good Things, Melancholia, Woodshock), but she is also a really great comedic actress—All I Wanna Do, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Dick, Bring It On—she's funny as hell in all of those movies. Her comedy chops also showed quite a bit in Fargo, which had a nice edge of dark humor running through it.

by Anonymousreply 65June 4, 2022 7:58 AM

R58 I have also seen Bachelorette. If I remember correctly, it was written off at the time it came out as a Bridesmaids ripoff (which it's really not). I've heard mixed things about the play. I don't think the film is a masterpiece by any means, but I do enjoy it. Kirsten is great in it playing the uptight, bitchy character, but Isla Fisher is the show stealer in that film—she is hilarious in it. I usually like Lizzy Caplan, but her performance never impressed me in it.

by Anonymousreply 66June 4, 2022 8:11 AM

I've never understood the comments about Plemons! I think they're an incredibly well matched couple, and he obviously adores her.

by Anonymousreply 67June 4, 2022 8:32 AM

Jesse wouldn't be bad looking if he shed the weight.

by Anonymousreply 68June 4, 2022 10:05 AM

Jesse and Kirsten seem like a fairly normal couple who possess very little Hollywood pretense—they are not Brad and Angelina or Will and Jada, and thank God for that.

by Anonymousreply 69June 4, 2022 10:36 AM

R67: they must have birthed the world's blondest babies.

by Anonymousreply 70June 4, 2022 10:40 AM

r64, I know what you mean about Benedict Cumberbatch, I haven't been able to connect with him in anything I've seen him in so far, he's a well respected, good actor, there's just a block there

by Anonymousreply 71June 4, 2022 10:42 AM

Kirsten Dunst, B-list? D-list?? Oh, please. She's had multiple Golden Globe nominations, and now an Oscar nomination. Granted, she hasn't won, but she's still gotten the recognition. She's also been around for a long time, and has worked with some major directors over the course of her career: Brian De Palma, Peter Bogdanovich, Sofia Coppola, Sam Raimi, Cameron Crowe, Michel Gondry, Lars von Trier, Jeff Nichols, Jane Campion... She's definitely not a Marvel movie darling and tends to gravitate toward artier movies, but she's had enough major commercial and critical successes that place her an A-list actress.

by Anonymousreply 72June 4, 2022 10:48 AM

[quote]She should have been nominated for an Oscar for her role in "Melancholia."

She deservedly won Best Actress at Cannes.

by Anonymousreply 73June 4, 2022 12:15 PM

Love her. One of my favorite actresses today.
