London Covid
A friend is vacationing in London. He went to the theater maskless three times and out in about to restaurants and museums. Of course he now has Covid.
He said there are no quarantine requirements in the UK. He could go out and about as much as he likes.
Is that true and if so what in the world are they thinking?

They are so over it. They may be the most over it place on earth. I'm not quite sure why. I am in Canada (Toronto) and we're still quite heavily masked in public, it always surprises me, with some yet very few restrictions and no effort at any level of government to provide any useful guidance. I'm not quite sure why. We're over it too, yet we're still reasonably masked (or unreasonably in the view of some.) No idea why.

Remember freedom day? Well that was last July I believe. When they said restrictions were over they meant it.

Most of Europe has lifted all restrictions. Hell I think I heard Spain is lifting the requirement for tourists to be vaccinated later in the summer. Unless the death toll really ramps up its business as it was pre 2020 at this point

The infection rate in the UK has been falling for months, coupled with the fact that omicron is now the prevalent strain and relatively mild.

Yes it’s true OP. We in the U.K. haven’t had to quarantine if we test positive for covid for a couple of months now. I had it but was mostly too poorly to go out and about spreading it. I got it in a nightclub.

The success of the vaccination and booster programme means that if you do contract Covid and don't have any obvious health issues then it's no worse than a bad cold.
Vaccinations were always the way out of it.

Mask mandates are deliberately flouted by the deliberately anti-social and the contrarians.
This has been the case before vaccination and effective treatment for covid was available.
The only thing to be done is avoid crowded indoor activity and avoid all confrontation.

Mask mandates have been in place for passengers using public transportation. The mandate has never been lifted for public transportation. Announcements are made during the duration of your commute. These announcements are intrusive and obnoxiously constant. Signage is posted in public areas reminding everyone of the mandate.
40% of commuters will not comply with the mandate.

Like R1, I am also in Toronto, and still choose to mask up when I go to the stores. I was in London a month ago, also went to the theatre, but we were asked to wear our mask to protect the cast (it was the Donmar, so small and intimate) and at least half the audience complied. I would slip on my mask in the most crowded areas, but otherwise, it was mostly tourists wearing them. My mother is in the south of England and in her 80s and its a miracle she's never had Covid.

Yes it's true there is no quarantine and no restrictions - very few people wear masks in public places. I don't use public transport but that's perhaps one exception where I would still wear a mask at this point.
I've already had Covid, I know you can get it again but I'm also double vaccinated and boosted, and although I don't particularly want to catch it again, much like anything similar e.g. flu have just accepted that I will probably get it once or twice a year.

R8 where are you getting your info from? You're wrong, there is no mask mandate in place.
