What is the best OTC teeth whitener?

Please add why you've found it to be the best over-the-counter product on the market.

What is the approximate cost?

It is easy to use?

What have you bought that you found to be a waste of money?

I bought professional strength Crest Whitening Strips on Amazon, they have a higher concentration of the peroxide solution than the ones you can buy at the drugstore. I got great results, my dentist asked if I went for a professional whitening. There’s a price to pay for it though, your teeth WILL be sensitive as fuck to temperature extremes.

Colgate Total with Whitening works for me.

My 49 yo husband who drinks black coffee all day every day has developed the most unsightly brown stains on his front teeth, just this past year.

Ugh! He doesn’t care!! But he said he would try a home whitener- for me.

Should I subject him to pro grade white strips? Or just accept him?

by Anonymousreply 4May 24, 2022 5:25 PM

What r1 said....100% true about the sensitivity

by Anonymousreply 5May 24, 2022 5:27 PM

I thought whitening/bleaching ate up tooth enamel. Is this untrue?

I've tried tons of whitening toothpastes but most don't seem to make much of a difference,

The Trader Joes Peppermint with Baking Soda, however, keeps my teeth white without the sensitivity

My dentist friend recommended a home brew.

In a medicine pill bottle (after you have finished an Rx), mix some baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Brush your front teeth (avoid the back teeth as this will cause some sensitivity).

This does an excellent job of whitening,

by Anonymousreply 9May 24, 2022 5:43 PM

What proportions, r9? One to four?

by Anonymousreply 10May 24, 2022 5:51 PM

Behr One-Coat Enamel.

by Anonymousreply 11May 24, 2022 5:56 PM

R10, a bit of each--since baking soda is a solid and hydrogen peroxide is a liquid. Just enough to dissolve some of the baking soda in the hydrogen peroxide, but with some still solid.

Act Whitening Rinse, Arm & Hammer Whitening Toothpaste daily, and these whitening pens for spot treatment if you notice darker hues like if you'd had a lot of coffee or cola:

Good thread. I want my teeth to be as white as my legs.

by Anonymousreply 14May 24, 2022 6:11 PM

I can't use baking soda to whiten my teeth. For some reason, it does something to the corners of my mouth. Maybe it's drying and that's what makes the corners of my mouth crack.

My Byte aligners came with a whitening agent but I haven't tried it yet. No sense in having white teeth until I get them straighter.

Smile Direct Club is now selling whitening strips. I believe you can get them from Amazon or possible WalMart. I have no idea who well they work, though. They did give me some samples that came with a device you plug into an outlet. Haven't tried that either but, since it's supposed to rain on Saturday in the mid-Atlantic states, I may try a vial.

None. Drink a lor of water and brush your teeth two to three times a day.

A lot of these OTC brands are worse for your teeth.

by Anonymousreply 17May 24, 2022 6:24 PM

Bleach. You'll have white teeth and be Covid-free!

by Anonymousreply 18May 24, 2022 6:27 PM

For the record, R3 is not the OP, I am. That's not nice R3. No one should need to show their personal comparisons.

by Anonymousreply 19May 24, 2022 11:43 PM

I use this SmileActives gel. You just add some to your regular toothpaste and brush like normal. I only use it once a day, and it has significantly whitened my tooth without any sensitivity issues or other side effects.

The strips never worked for me. I did zoom and it was better, but faded within a week on me. I might try the home remedy.

by Anonymousreply 21May 24, 2022 11:53 PM

Get the 32% dental bleach syringes from Amazon and cheap teeth strips(does not have to be crest). Lay a thin line of bleach on the upper half of the strip and apply to teeth. You don't want to lay it on thick because it'll get all over your gums and it might hurt. I've used this method for years and it works. The dental trays from the dentist are great but expensive. The bleach syringes available online are the same that your dentist would sell you at a huge markup.

by Anonymousreply 22May 25, 2022 12:15 AM

I will not be satisfied until my teeth can guide ships into safe harbor.

by Anonymousreply 23May 25, 2022 12:21 AM

Hahahaha r23! What's considered white for teeth has changed a bit in the past few years. My upper teeth are shot and I need a whole new set of implants and crowns. I was looking at the tooth color selection and it showed a new whiter selection of, I think, two new bleached shades. We've all gotten so used to the bleached look that they had to add new ultra white shades.

Use Rembrandt once daily in the morning before having coffee or food for and before bed for 2 weeks and you'll notice a dramatic difference.

Colgate Optic White toothpaste, this toothpaste comes in different types. Renewal, Charcoal, revitalizing for gums and enamel and a few others in both paste and gel.

A friend swears by an oral rinse by Crest, think it's called 3D White. He did say it burns, there's no alcohol, but it does have peroxide.

by Anonymousreply 28May 25, 2022 4:10 AM

This pre brush rinse followed by charcoal bamboo tooth powder. I can't find the exact brand of powder, but they all seem the same. The rinse is the best tho.

[quote]I thought whitening/bleaching ate up tooth enamel. Is this untrue?

You can buy a Japanese toothpaste that restores enamel.

by Anonymousreply 30May 25, 2022 4:58 AM

R29, do not use charcoal powder. The way it whitens is by polishing off your enamel.

by Anonymousreply 31May 25, 2022 4:59 AM

My dentist made a mold of my upper and lower teeth and made some sort of soft plastic guard thing that i put whitener in and leave it on for 15 or so minutes. The whitener comes in different brands on Amazon and is about $15-30 for a pack of syringes that are enough to make a significant difference (at least in my case).

by Anonymousreply 32May 25, 2022 5:08 AM

Just adding that the whitener is OTC. You just have to get the mold made. They probably have kits for that, too.

by Anonymousreply 33May 25, 2022 5:11 AM

Custom made molds for whitening your teeth are about $400. That's not what OP meant by OTC.

by Anonymousreply 34May 25, 2022 5:39 AM

I realized that, dear. Which is why I added that there may be a DIY kit to make a mold.

Y'all seemed to miss the point though, darlin R35. Any dentist can sell you a syringe of peroxide suspended in a gel. That's like buying gas if you don't own a car. Your post was old and silly, dear. You don't even know how much custom trays cost you - but you are SURE that a more disadvantaged or frugal person can get the same thing OTC?🤣🤣

by Anonymousreply 37May 25, 2022 6:17 AM

r37, please scroll through all of these options for OTV trays. some are less than $30.
