Jessica Lange says Coven is the worst AHS season she appeared on

Coven was terrible. Stevie Nicks was just the houseguest who wouldn't leave.

Coven is still their highest rated season.

I think that the fact Coven had THREE lead actresses (Lange, Bates and Bassett), four if you count Paulson, plus the whole coven of starlets AND Patti LuPone and Stevie Nicks, Jess might feel like the pie was cut in a few too many pieces for her liking. In Asylum and Freak Show she was the unmistakable lead, plus her “supporting” performance in Murder House ultimately became a leading one as the series went on. That said, Coven is certainly messy, though I would say Freak Show falls apart the most in the last few episodes of the four seasons mentioned.

Is this some niche show the rest of us missed?

How can they let that old woman use the same name as "Jessica Lange." Why hasn't the real Lange sued?

Where was the horror in Coven? I found it just laughable. Murder House and Asylum were much better.

Pretty much agree. Loved Asylum Best. While we're on the subject - Someone, for the sake of all sanity and rationality, please open the real ones back up for the MAGA Q nuts - our deeply sick nation needs a break. Murder House and Freak show were also amazing. Didn't love or hate Coven. Hotel was a complete mess and was more of a fashion show to distract from the horrible lead's acting and the absence of Miss Lange. The rest were hit or miss, but I did enjoy Apocalypse and even Roanoke.

It goes to show how everyone has extremely different tastes. Out of all the seasons, Coven is my favourite (probably because it is the first one I watched), alongside Hotel. The other seasons are too dark and extreme for my taste, even though I already found Coven and Hotel rather brutal in tone as it is. Curiosly enough, I reached my point of saturation with Roanoke and I haven't watched any of the subsequent seasons.

I think that maybe it's time for me to start rewatching, but to be honest I don't feel like putting myself through all the violence, morbidity and grusomeness that tends to come with AHS.

I liked the idea of Coven best, and loved the scenery but that storyline was just all over the place, like they could never figure out where to go with the various characters.

Murder House is the most authentic, interesting, and unforced. The "Birth" episode had me completely gripped in a way that not many shows have ever done. I also love the way the plot unwound quite gradually. The slow reveal was great for keeping up the suspense.

Asylum was probably the most entertaining, although I remember feeling like they were trying to throw in too much unnecessary shit. Like the 'aliens' theme, and the Anne Frank bullshit. Some of the writing felt a little forced.

Coven had promise but was ultimately unsatisfying. I remember feeling like either the writers got bored or they ran out of money. They blew past the 7 Wonders way too quickly. I remember feeling like Stevie lipsynch was an extended mix or something because it went on forever.

Freakshow I remember liking more than Coven but again, the writing seemed labored. I did like that guy who played the serial killer flouncing around in his tighty whities though. I saw him in a Broadway show, and he was fucking beautiful up close.

I haven't seen the rest, except for maybe a couple episodes of Hotel, and one of Roanoke.

Asylum lost me after the first couple episodes, I'm not sure why. Gotta go back and watch all these years later.

Like many, I lost interest with each new season (Roanoke, ugh) and have never seen the most recent one. Yet.

Coven is my favorite season. Jessica brought the cuntiness, Angela brought the fierceness, Kathy brought the humor (liiiiiiiiiiiiiies) and the New Orleans setting was breathtaking with some of its locations.

Coven started off really fun, but it become bad TV in the second half. People who defend it are remembering the fun bits and blocking out the rest.

I don't get it. I thought the whole show was awful. It was a great chance to do a Alfred Hitchcock Presents...but every season was awful. Maybe they should've tried a different story every week. A whole show was never gonna work. Nurse House was awful too lets not mess up a turd.

The only season that bored me was Roanoake. I loved "Coven".

I liked all of Lange's seasons but I would have to say Asylum is my least favorite. It's relentlessly grim. They completely forgot to have fun in that season (except for the name game).

Coven falsely claimed white women "stole" witchcraft from black slaves when witchcraft and druidism has been practised by Europeans for thousands of years. Long before a white man had ever stepped foot in America. It's what started off the bizarre spectacle of ignorant poc females, who had no interest in European witchcraft before AHS: Coven, accusing white witches of "cultural appropriation" because they don't understand that Coven is a work of fiction and that all cultures and races have dabbled in witchcraft or had nature based religions.

R37 Voodoo and witchcraft was a practice in Africa long before Europe.

The problem with Coven was that none of the younger witches were interesting. Why make us watch two skinny girls argue about a boy when everyone would rather watch Lange and Bassett and Bates duke it out.

The problem with "Coven" was that, even when a character would die, they would come back the next week-there were no stakes involved. The Stevie Nicks cameos were superfluous and embarrassing, the Lupone storyline was shoehorned in and seemed to be over as soon as it began and one mildly quotable line ("Balenciaga!") does not a season make. And let's not forget sending the only character you could root for to hell in the end.

I LOVED Coven. Yep. I thought it was incredibly fun tv. Never understood the hate for it. Freak Show was when I bowed out. Couldn't even finish it.

Coven is better than Freakshow.

Coven was fun until the last 3 or 4 episodes. The finale is atrocious

AHS was always trashy. It never was good or consistent like all of Ryan Murphy’s TV shows.
