Good.
Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, Pete Davidson out at SNL

Why Kate? Asked for too much money? She will do well in movies.

R1 and r2: Once is enough. Twice is indulgent.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | May 20, 2022 9:48 PM |
I didn't feel like Aidy did much this year, so I'm not surprised.

Keenan Thompson isn't getting booted? Good lord.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | May 20, 2022 10:02 PM |
Aidy is a big loss.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | May 20, 2022 10:03 PM |
Kyle Mooney and Pete Davidson annoyed the hell out of me. Good riddance.
When is Weekend Update going to have a woman reporter again? I’m sick of Che and Jost and their banter. They’ve done it for way too long.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | May 20, 2022 10:05 PM |
Are they ever going to give Aristotle Athari anything to do?
He is introduced each week, and then, a big fat nothin'.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | May 20, 2022 10:07 PM |
He’ll discreetly disappear.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 20, 2022 10:10 PM |
Yeah I forget that he's a cast member until I see the intro every week. Then I think "Oh right, the creepy-looking guy!"
Good riddance to Kyle and Pete. I'll miss Kate and Aidy, but it was probably time. Kate at least will land on her feet (or in some contorted position that's hilarious). I'm not sure if any of Aidy's efforts outside the show have been successful, but she's a real talent.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 20, 2022 10:18 PM |
Mooney should have been fired after his first season. He’s unbearable.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 20, 2022 10:19 PM |
Time for Bowen Yang to become a toothy “superstar” in the front row. Lorne wants him to be the new Kate McKinnon - Nothing but impressions. Only Bowen is a lot gayer and a lot less talented than Kate. Still, he’s SO BRAVE!
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 20, 2022 10:19 PM |
Andy was funny, but broke character too much. Can’t stand Pete Davidson or Kyle Mooney. Kate McKinnon was alright, but she’s been on too long. I really wish Kenan would go somewhere. I didn’t even like him on All That. I think Kel Mitchell was the funnier of the two.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 20, 2022 10:25 PM |
Good? Who do we have now?

Bowen isn’t funny at all to me. At all
by Anonymous | reply 17 | May 20, 2022 10:32 PM |
Yeah I'll miss Aidy the most.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 20, 2022 10:36 PM |
McKinnon is deeply unfunny and a pill. Remember her shitastic wank performance after the election? Shouldn’t have happened and she should have been fired directly afterwards. Lorne should have fired himself for allowing it.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 20, 2022 10:51 PM |
Time to make room for new talent and fresh faces...
by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 20, 2022 10:56 PM |
Kyle is one of the funnier cast members. Aidy is likeable and talented but doesn’t get many laughs out of me. McKinnon and Pete are ANNOYING.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 20, 2022 10:57 PM |
McKinnon will go on to become a D Lister. She’ll be the robber in Home Alone 9, the dognapper in Beethoven 17, and the town fortune teller in Air Bud 42. She’ll be on Pyramid and Celebrity Big Brother. She was too self conscious to play Carole Baskin with any gravitas. Her range is extremely limited and her breakout year of 2016 landed with a thud.
So glad Davidson is gone. The CEO of The Lucky Club act isn’t going to stretch much further now that he’s out of a job.

Thanks for joining us, Beck Bennett/R22.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 20, 2022 11:02 PM |
I’m shocked at all the love for Aidy. She’s a third-rate one-note performer. Plays the same gestures, delivery and facial expressions in every skit.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 20, 2022 11:03 PM |
I loved both McKinnon and Bryant their first few seasons on SNL. They both did some great work, I loved Bryant's 'Girlfriend's' talk show with Cecily Strong, they depicted that bizarre early teenage period when some teenagers become really adult really fast, while their friends remain children. Also loved her portrayal of the adolescent girl always hitting on her friends' dads. McKinnon did so much funny stuff early on, too. Loved the Whiskers are We commercials.
With that said, they both have run out of gas, which is totally understandable. I have no doubt that they both will work, however, whether or not they will get to showcase their gifts is another story. Look at Gilda and Jan Hooks post-SNL careers.

Save Aristotle.

Kate McKinnon needed to be out years ago. She’s obnoxious.
I actually like Aidy Bryant. She’s so charming.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | May 20, 2022 11:22 PM |
Kate McKinnon will follow the Kristen Wiig pathway to shitty movies - since she's gay, she won't even have the option of being paired with a shitty actor in a shitty rom com type thing. There is little use for her "Dr Fauci" or "Guiliani" impressions in Hollywood. I think Aidy Bryant may do OK, maybe even in indie films - she's a better actress. And thank GOD we won't have to suffer through any more Pete Davidson rap videos!!

Keenan is profoundly untalented. He does the same stupid voice for every character.
Lorne, however is the one who most needs to go. He’s kept Keenan and McKinnon on. In addition to any number of cast members and untalented writers.
I like Bryant.

I'm okay with all of those. I think they used up their time and will be fine on other shows.
On the other hand, Cecily Strong, who I think has been on just as long, only seems to now be hitting her stride. So glad she's staying!
by Anonymous | reply 44 | May 21, 2022 2:59 AM |
I've been a fan of Kate since the days of Big Gay Sketch Show. Fuck SNL, I wish we could bring back BGSS. Nowadays it would be the Big Queer/Trans Sketch Show though, and we all know trans people are incapable of satire.

Kate would have been a disaster as Elizabeth Holmes. I guess she became aware of her limitations as an actor and pulled out of The Dropout? Or was it another Elizabeth Holmes project? Maybe she can write and star in a lesbian version of Bros and call it Broads.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | May 21, 2022 3:21 AM |
Kenan is always gold. Glad he’s still there. Aidy was funny and it’s obvious she thinks she’s going to have more of a career because of that crappy Shrill show she did. She won’t. She’s good on SNL playing around with characters but watching her on her own, painful and reminds you she’s obese and looks like a 1960s throwback in her weird ass clothes. Kate will do movies. She had a good solid 7 years. Kyle had moments of funny but he wasn’t used enough and once his best friend left (Beck) he seemed to lose his passion. And his hair is gross. He seems like he has hair odor. Pete…well honestly they’ve blown his ego up so much , he will either stay in the spotlight long enough to get a decent gig or sadly with his mental health issues, he will spectacularly fall and it won’t be pretty. The Kuntrashian Fauxmance is not going to end well for him. It gives her “cred” and gave him a high profile girlfriend but they don’t have anything remotely in common nor do they have chemistry (watch Pete and Myley Cyrus, they are fire together) He’s been told he’s so talented that his fragile needy BPD ego believes the hype. He needs the security of SNL to keep ego in check but let him work continually. A new show that will bomb is going to be a bad thing.

My current faves are Mikey Day, Ego Nwodim, Chloe Fineman and Chris Redd. I really want to see more of that Aristotle guy. Andrew Dismukes and Sarah Sherman seem so bland to me but maybe they need more time.

Im guessing Pete and Kim do it doggystyle, because I cannot imagine being comfortable with those bug eyes and the ghost-sticking-his-tongue-out, skull tattoos staring at you in the missionary position.

Are the other girls like Heidi Gardener jealous of Chloe Fineman? She’s the new girl and already outshined them and is getting all this attention and is now the face of L’Oréal Paris.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | May 21, 2022 12:59 PM |
R82 Pete and Kim have kissed once, on the Aladdin sketch from October. They are in a KartrashianKontract to boost her street cred that she’s “cool” and not only down with brown (she’s only into black guys and honestly isn’t as into sex as her sisters but more into being sexual to gain fame) and Pete is in it to boost his profile as a cocksmith and not the crazy BPD dude we know he sadly struggles with. He got a new TV show and TV special, Fashion campaign and Met Ball Gala invite from this sham Fauxmance. I am scared for his fragile mental health, she can give zero fucks about it since the only men wiling to be in her vortex have mental health issues, as he can’t handle too much rejection. And what real mother would go from man to man flying all around while she has little kids who clearly don’t have stability? Their dad is a fuck but with bipolar disorder who won’t Medicare and truly thinks he’s JeausPart2 and their aunts are literally hoe bags. The only decent one is Rob who stays home and raises his daughter. The way Kim dresses those props I mean kids is abusive.

In this Cut for Time sketch Pete Davidson pays tribute to Lorne Michaels.
Also, Eminem makes an appearance.
Don't understand why they cut this sketch from the show. There were several clunker sketches they could have cut to fit this one in.

Goodburger pure gold? Well he’s definitely a nugget. That I’ll give you. Jim Carey circa 1990 wasn’t good enough to even be considered for the second tier cast yet here we have Goodburger pretty much a poor man’s Rerun 2.0, on his 200th season being groomed to take over the entire show when Lorne retires???
by Anonymous | reply 91 | May 23, 2022 4:11 AM |
R91, I don't think Kenan is being groomed for anything. Most likely Steve Higgins will get the job.

by Anonymous | reply 96 | May 23, 2022 4:25 AM |
R96, Pete started doing standup at 16.
He eventually got cast on Wild N Out, a show that was created and hosted by Nick Cannon.
Through doing standup, he met Amy Schumer. That's how he got cast in Trainwreck.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | May 23, 2022 4:38 AM |
Those are literally the only ones I knew the names of on SNL. I also knew Mikey Day. Is he still on there? Why don't they cancel this piece of shit show? They are going to wait until Lorne dies, right?
I wonder if McKinnon has it in her to do some kind of breakout dramatic role that no one saw coming? That would be interesting.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | May 23, 2022 4:39 AM |
R98 McKinnon probably did some dramatic acting training at Columbia. It would be interesting to see her attempt a dramatic role. I still find her to be overrated.

So Amy Schumer created Pete Davidson?
by Anonymous | reply 100 | May 23, 2022 4:48 AM |

I love that Mikey Day had the biggest hit of the year amongst the cast with "Is it Cake?" on Netflix. That show was not only fun and entertaining, but it was also a huge success on Netflix. I wouldn't be surprised if Mikey doesn't win an Emmy for his hosting duties next year. It must give Mikey a lot of satisfaction knowing that he's the one with the breakthrough hit, especially since Lorne ignores him on SNL.
None of the other cast members have had much success outside of the show. Pete gets a lot of media attention, but none of his projects have been successful thus far.

Kyle Mooney is a weird flavor, like green tea cream. It's not wrong to like it, but it's understandable if you don't.
How he ended up on SNL: Mooney and Beck Bennett were comic partners who met in college. They had some funny, quirky stuff going on on their YouTube channels several years ago. Kyle had his own channel, and then there was the Good Neighbors sketch troupe, featuring Kyle, Beck, Dave McCrary (who filmed the skits), and this other guy Nick whose last name escapes me. All of them ended up finding success at SNL except for Nick whats-his-name. He was the least funny of the four.
Kyle's brand of cringe humor was popular with the millennials and Zs. He is adept at channeling the most annoying and cringe aspects of of YouTube culture, pot culture and hipster culture. Of people who completely lack self-awareness. He created several characters, and all of them were awkward in their own ways. (My favorite character that made it's way over to SNL was the pitiful, tragic stand-up comedian Bruce Chandling).
The only time I've ever seen Mooney play a confident character was in his turn as Don Atari in Zoolander 2 -- arguably the funniest scene/character in an otherwise embarrassing film. He was seriously hilarious in that scene.
Anyhoo, I believe that Kyle's role in the SNL cast was to create digital content and/or appeal to the Millenials and Z's. Most of Kyle's contributions are notorious for being "Cut For Time" sketches and digital shorts. He and Beck's parodies of cheesy 90s sit-coms are truly funny. Kyle's fans stan his parodying of wooden sit-com acting. Look up any "Cut For Time" Mooney sketch and you will see how many fans he actually has.
It feels like after Beck's departure, Kyle lost his not only his writing partner, but his sense of belonging. I don't think he and SNL were a good match but you know....it's not nothing to sniff at. Being a cast member on SNL for eight years is an achievement. Hope he finds projects that are more in sync with who he is. He seems like a good guy.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | May 23, 2022 5:45 AM |
Mooney's Don Atari was the best (only good) thing in Zoolander 2

Pete will continue to be a media fixture, make one off appearances in movies and stick to his comedy.
Aidy will become a supporting comedic actress on a TV show and have a solid career. She won't be a star, and that's okay.
Kate will do a dramatic role, surprise everyone, and get critical acclaim for it or she'll get her own TV series and do the same.
Kyle will stick to writing.

Just goes to show how much he’s softened from the guy who fired Sarah Silverman after one season, banned Chevy and Sinead for life and berated Larry David in the famous “showing up after quitting” bit made into a Seinfeld classic. When you get invested in personal lives and play favorites it affects the show and brings it to a screeching halt. That Jim Carey doing the Biden bit than both Goldbloom AND the Fly when Jeff couldn’t make it was blooming gold. An Emmy award deserving one man performance. Than who shows up to just absolutely decimate everything poor Carey just did, Goodburger 🙄 That very moment if you didn’t already know how Lorne liked to play favorites you realized it than and there. The entire tone and charm of the sketch was just tossed just out to give Lornes little pet his precious bone. If that’s how he’s gonna play it out from here on out both need to go and asap.

Kyle thrives off of the nerdy reject type and doesn’t do anything else really, and it just gets old really fast. And I HATE his baby yoda gag on Weekend Update. He just isn’t funny. It’s very one-note and something about him just irritates me.
Pete Davidson annoys me too and I don’t think he has nearly as much talent as people act like he does, but at least his dark humor occasionally resonates. Not Kyle’s.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | May 23, 2022 6:45 PM |
Pete and Kyle are a photo finish for last place in the funniness race for me, but at least Kyle doesn't seem insufferable OUT of character. I hope he finds his niche and does well in some project that I never feel compelled to watch. Now that I'll never have his Baby Yoda inflicted on me again, I can forgive and forget.
As for Pete, I expect to get much more entertainment out of any mental health meltdowns the Kardashian clan enables than anything he's done in front of the camera.

[quote]Keenan Thompson isn't getting booted? Good lord.
They'll, at minimum, let him hit 20 years since he's so close. Otherwise, he's well liked by Lorne, the writers and everyone else at the show. He's a fixture.
[quote]I’m shocked at all the love for Aidy. She’s a third-rate one-note performer. Plays the same gestures, delivery and facial expressions in every skit.
There's something about her I've always liked. It has nothing to do with her sketches on the show. She just always seems to come across as pleasantly funny. She never insists upon herself, she's just there and you're happy she's there.

Lorne had left the show and NBC appointed Jean Doumanian as his replacement.

I know they are both writers who probably contribute to the show in other ways, but Colin Jost and Michael Che on Weekend Update offer nothing to the roles, other than that they are familiar. I wondered if Che even knows how to deliver a joke. After seeing clips of his standup, I guess he might, but he sure doesn't bring it on the show.

Being well liked and beloved doesn’t make you a fixture. Hire a freakin boy scout if that’s the case. When Goodburger is making box office records and you have people reciting his greatest National Lampoon one liners, than you can have your fixture status. As it is Chevy Chase himself, considered one of their all time best discoveries is also notoriously a despised prick. Does it matter? Yeah he may be banned from the show but him and Bill Murray and the legions of legit actual stars that have heat behind the scenes, their work speaks for themselves. In the end that loyalty is meaningless if you can’t get yourself over that family friendly cutsie Amanda Bines’ sidekick persona. You can’t turn Rerun or Buffalo Butt from Good Times into the next Richard Prior or Eddie Murphy no matter how much you want the person to succeed. Clifford was a success because they played on Goodburgers wholesome, sweet, cutsie kid friendly approach that he’s yet to get past. SNL trying to be edgy and risqué, never gonna fit this guy into that format even if he loses that hefty Rerun like weight. The weight of him being a Nickelodeon long hall leftover he’ll never lose.

Aidy Bryant was funny on SNL but I don’t see her having the same success. Shrill was on HULU only because she was on SNL which made fans want to see more. It’s been cancelled and I’ve never known one person whose watched it past the first two episodes. Kate will be successful and I feel she’ll come back like Tina and Fred and Maya do because they know it’s where they popped off big time and they still feel allegiance to Lorne and the SNL fam. Kyle is funny in the right settings, he wasn’t used as well as he could’ve been but who wants too much Mooney anyhow? His Saturday Morning Cartoons goofball show on Netflix was oddly fun and harkened back to the time before socials and phones so we had to eat up anything on TV. I don’t know how many more he can do before the concept repeats or just gets stale. Pete…well he’s been half off the show for years anyhow between mental health issues, drug addiction and doing other projects. The Kartrashian Kontract has propelled him into a new world which I am worried he isn’t going to be able to handle without daddy Lorne holding his hand. Pete’s fragile and a Kartrashian circus isn’t for someone like him. Once the BIG DICK ENERGY mantra fades , he won’t be the huge star he is now. KimKunt will terminate their “relationship” for an NBA star and Pete will see how life outside the safety of SNL isn’t as easy. Keenan is the smartest dude there. He knows to “keep his day job” while perusing passion projects. But SNL is a steady paycheck and gives him enough fame to get into A List parties but not too much where he can’t bring his kids to the park without being papped or harassed. Keenan is smart and hysterical, I am so glad he’s still there.

To be fair, Lorne picks and chooses who he grants that power to.
Taran Killam was fired when he wanted to work on a passion project, even after trying to adjust the schedule to appease Lorne. Leslie Jones quit when she had other projects booked because Lorne wouldn't let her stay on the show and work on other things. Meanwhile, Pete Davidson was fine to do so.

R150 the difference between Keenan and Taran & Leslie is Keenan is easy going. Those two were hard to deal with behind the scenes. Taran has an ego and snobby demeanor , none of the cast or crew cared that he left and notice he’s not been back. Leslie is gruff and I’ll prepared. She was talked to by a former SNL vet about being able to prepare and handle lines but she clearly didn’t take to it. She wanted the whole “just laugh because I’m a loud black woman” applause yet she couldn’t back it up with anything funny. Keenan is professional, decent to everyone, has no ego and is a great guy all around. Don’t get it twisted, Lorne has his hands in outside stuff but he knows talent and hates talentless with egos so he won’t bend over to help them.
by Anonymous | reply 151 | May 28, 2022 11:52 PM |

Lorne knows talent? Is that why he wouldn’t even hire a young Jim Carey circa 1990 to so much as even be in the supporting cast? Meanwhile what number season is Goodburger on? Now one of my the most praised skits of there’s in recent memory was the ALMOST all one man performance by Jim Carey when portraying Joe Biden, Jeff Goldbloom and the Fly itself. It was going absolutely brilliant until Lorne just had to throw in his precious teachers pet with KeenBurger himself and that skit feel to utter crap the moment he got his Rerun wannabe, kid friendly, cutesy Nickelodeon snooze fest appearance on. He’s out of place and proof that Lorne is indeed in need of stepping down but guess who’s probably gonna be up for that very task if Lorne has his way? Point is the man he passed up on in Carey vs the longest member in SNL history and who was the one who made that sketch and who’s the one brought it to a screeching halt faster than a handicap cousin on the Facts of Life? Keenan will always be that kiddie cutesy Amanda Bines second tier Goodburger sidekick and that’s a fact of life.

R154 Lorne knew Jim Carey was so much bigger than SNL even then. He knew he would outshine every other cast member and completely make it the Jim Carey Show. JC is a powerhouse who can hold his own to the point he would suffer as a regular on an ensemble cast (he only thrived on In Living Color because he was a token white male in a predominantly black cast so it worked) Lorne has a good thing with Keenan. Keenan is solid and doesn’t need to hog the sketch but when he’s in it, it just adds to it.

[quote]Lorne knew Jim Carey was so much bigger than SNL even then. He knew he would outshine every other cast member and completely make it the Jim Carey Show.
His auditions weren't even good enough to get to Lorne's desk the three times he auditioned. Lorne talked about this a few times.
He also had no problem with Eddie Murphy, Mike Meyers, Dana Carvey, Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, Amy Poehler or Will Ferrell dominating during their time on the show.
[quote] JC is a powerhouse who can hold his own to the point he would suffer as a regular on an ensemble cast (he only thrived on In Living Color because he was a token white male in a predominantly black cast so it worked)
He thrived on In Living Color because by then he had already had years of standup experience, had made multiple film and tv appearances and had a failed network television series. He knew his "rubberface" schtick was gold. He still had the same amount of popularity as Damon Wayans (who got his first #1 movie with "Mo Money" in 91) until he hit it big when Ace Ventura, The Mask and Dumb and Dumber all came out in 1994; the year In Living Color ended. Then in 1996, he hosted SNL.
Jim was also 1/4 cast members that stayed the entire run of the series. He was in no hurry to go anywhere.
[quote] Keenan is solid and doesn’t need to hog the sketch but when he’s in it, it just adds to it.
But this I'll give you.

R150, Taran should have known better. He was on SNL several years back, long before Lorne eventually changed his opinion on SNLers having outside projects during the season.
Also, Taran was at SNL long enough to know Lorne has favorites and Taran wasn't one of them. Also, Lorne was not involved with Taran's project so Taran had no reason to expect Lorne would care about it.

Goodburger doing his family friendly cutesy Rerun 2.0 schtick on All That, ok. In fact Kenan in Clifford the Big Red Dog the movie, same thing. He’s totally in his pre adolescent demographic element. On SNL? No. Might has well have added Screech and Urkel to soften the cringe factor of how out of place he is on a show meant to be adult satire sketch comedy. At best it’s Jerry Mathers on Married with Children, we’re laughing AT him, not with him. Teeny bopper long hall is how most see him at best.

R154, I think Lorne prefers talented people who are inexperienced and undeveloped because he wants to be able to say that he turned this person into a household name. He wants a reputation as a star maker. The people who do become stars then continue to look up to Lorne. It's how he grows his comedy power base.

Didn't Rachel Bloom claim that sent in audition tapes for SNL? There were some rumors that Donald Glover and Aubrey Plaza auditioned for SNL, but were rejected. Ellie Kemper auditioned for the audition, but admitted that screwed up her auditions and that she can't really do celeb impersonations.
Lauren Lapkus was rumored to have auditioned for SNL around the time Kate McKinnon auditioned. I know Lapkus is a very odd looking woman, but she is hilarious as fuck on podcasts. She also owns up to the fact that she's odd looking and she doesn't try shove herself down other people's throats like McKinnon does.

R166 Casey Wilson was on SNL for one season and said it was miserable. Not sure what she thought of Lorne, but I don’t think she got many skits when she was there.
Now she runs the hilarious Bitch Sesh podcast with Danielle Schneider that makes fun of the real housewives shows, and also acts (I think she is in an Apple+ show right now?).
I think some people just don’t work well with the SNL format, and I think some never get a chance to show their talent and are barely featured and then dumped. Jon Rudnitsky was on SNL for a few seasons but I never saw him in skits that whole time, so it was weird to see him in a movie with Reese Witherspoon a few years ago.

Kate is a victim (within SNL) of her own talent, just like Kristen Wiig was. They're both so unique and funny that they stole every scene they were in early on and then the producers made them the central figures of the ensembles, which made viewers resent them on the show. It's a bummer. I loved both and tired of both and I don't think it was the fault of either. Same thing happened with Alanis Morissette, who was such a legitimate phenomenon she was overplayed and overpromoted to the point no one wanted to look at her or hear from her for decades afterward.
Wiig is *really* talented, but the hype machine overpromoted her contribution to the very bad movie Wonder Woman 1984, and Wiig ended up being a disappointment because her role was small and uninteresting. Robin Wright made a much greater contribution to the first movie and she was totally overlooked. Wiig played an underdevelopled and standard-issue supervillain with about 10 minutes of screen time in a movie that ran approximately 146 hours, or felt like it.
I hope McKinnon can maybe develop a smart streaming series that isn't a standard SNL extended skit that's unwatchable.
