The Dark Knight Rises was so bad.

How did a film with this many technical issues and plot holes make it past the studio? Don't they check?

^No way in hell was that Marion Cotillard'a best take. Sabotage!

by Anonymousreply 1May 20, 2022 8:24 PM

Loved that movie!

by Anonymousreply 2May 20, 2022 8:28 PM

It's high camp, just like Batman should be. People do the opening scene like drag divas.

It's liked Nolan trashed the film on purpose so he wouldn't have to make another Batman movie. Most of the problems with it draw back to him and his brother- weird dialogue, bad editing choices, plot holes.

by Anonymousreply 7May 20, 2022 8:41 PM

I thought it was a great film as did many others. I don't see why people hate it so much.

by Anonymousreply 8May 20, 2022 8:43 PM

I'm sure those guys that got shot by that Joker dude really didnt care.

R8 I think it's more that they love camping it. It is objectively poorly done, though.

Ugh, fuck off R9. Ghoul.

by Anonymousreply 11May 20, 2022 8:47 PM

It was definitely the weakest of the three movies in the trilogy, but it was also very enjoyable.

The person I saw it with cried during the Batman "death scene". Ten years later and I still think that was pathetic.

by Anonymousreply 15May 20, 2022 10:01 PM

I thought it was better than The Dark Knight.

R14 VPL.

by Anonymousreply 17May 21, 2022 2:18 AM

I know it is not popular, but I thought the last Batman movie (with Pattinson) was more "Batman" than anything Nolan and co. ever executed.

by Anonymousreply 18May 21, 2022 2:23 AM

The opening scene reminded me of that Will Ferrell character from SNL who couldn't control the volume of his voice.

Supposedly the actors couldn't hear themselves while filming on the plane and Nolan chose to just leave it that way. Except for Bane, who is obviously dubbed in and sounds like he's speaking on an intercom.

Nolan is a fraud.

Lol that's the truth.

by Anonymousreply 21May 21, 2022 11:41 AM

Bane’s voice immediately reminded me of Morla the Ancient One from The Neverending Story. Made me laugh the whole movie.

I quite liked the scene where they punished people to exile by walking across the frozen ice.

by Anonymousreply 30May 22, 2022 2:13 PM

NO superhero movie had has many holes in logic, common sense and plausibility as batman vs superman, the dawn of justice!

COUNTLESS holes one could see as they watched both DURING the movie and thinking about afterwards!

I truly think those who created that movie thought to themselves "we can put any piece of shit out there and people will see it!"...

by Anonymousreply 31May 22, 2022 2:20 PM

Nothing beat the original first two films (1989, 1992). Nothing. All the films that followed either regurgitated scenes from those films or like the latest, took dialogue from the original 1989 draft. Thank god Keaton is returning!

by Anonymousreply 32May 22, 2022 2:29 PM

r32 those films look dated now.

by Anonymousreply 33May 22, 2022 2:30 PM

Nolan hates comic books. He also said he couldn’t do countless villains because they would fit into his universe. If they don’t fit then it’s not Batman. Case closed. Don’t get me started on the atrocious Patterson film.

by Anonymousreply 34May 22, 2022 2:30 PM

They do not, r33.

by Anonymousreply 35May 22, 2022 2:30 PM

It figures that DLers would favor the campy Tim Burton Batman films over the gritty, modern Nolan films.

by Anonymousreply 36May 22, 2022 2:37 PM

R6

What makes you say that?

Marion and Anne shot two films with him.

by Anonymousreply 37May 22, 2022 2:43 PM

The entire Dark Knight franchise is overrated. The 90s batman are much better, yes even the one with Clooney's nipple batman and Mr. Freeze.

by Anonymousreply 38May 22, 2022 2:52 PM

Nolan loves a bag on a head. I think there's one scene with that in every film he makes.

The CIA agent can't figure out which bagged head is Bane's in the Dark Knight Rises either, even though he had only taken three men on board and already acknowledged two of them as being henchmen. That leaves one man, CIA agent, who has to be Bane.

by Anonymousreply 39May 22, 2022 2:52 PM

R36, Well you figured right. Now go eat Cheryl's pussy.

by Anonymousreply 40May 22, 2022 2:53 PM

R36 They're all campy. Some are self aware, some are hilariously not self aware.

by Anonymousreply 41May 22, 2022 2:54 PM

The cinematography was gorgeous. The film looked incredible.

by Anonymousreply 42May 22, 2022 2:55 PM

I loved this film when it came out, and even on repeated viewings, however over the years (cannot believe it's been ten already) I have come to think less of it and wouldn't really want to watch it again.

I hadn't even noticed Marion's death scene until it was pointed out to me... ever since I can't unsee...

Bane was the wrong choice, ultimately. I sympathise with Nolan trying to land on a villain for the third film, his Bane really is like a composite of Bane, Deacon Blackfyre and Penguin, with the underground cult aspects. I think it would have been better to just have Bane be the henchman of a mastermind villain.

Riddler, like in the Reeves film, would have been good in terms of someone leaking the truth about the Dent coverup to draw Batman out.

Really, there's just far too many characters. Talia winds up being really boring. Robin is dull, too, I know he's traditionally a righteous sort of character but he needed a rough edge. I hate to say it but Catwoman serves no real purpose. This is a small thing, but I wish Anne's Catwoman costume was made of woven cloth rather than leather. I loved her cat ears, though.

by Anonymousreply 43May 22, 2022 3:04 PM

Catwoman isn't much fun if she's just a rogue prancing around making trouble and being sassy. She only really works as an actual villain.

Michelle Pfeiffer, Julie Newmar, and Eartha Kitt are memorable Catwomans. Anne Hathaway and Zoe Kravitz were not.

(I never saw the movies with Lee Meriweather or Halle Berry so I can't comment on them.)

by Anonymousreply 44May 22, 2022 3:20 PM

R43 I laughed, I couldn't believe it.... ack!

by Anonymousreply 45May 22, 2022 4:13 PM

CIA and Bane are the Betty and Joan of Millennial straight men.

by Anonymousreply 46May 22, 2022 7:24 PM

R34 Why was he directing comic book movies, then? What a cunt.

by Anonymousreply 47May 23, 2022 4:37 AM

That movie was so bad that the only thing people remember from it is that death scene, so it overlooks how bad the movie actually was. Even Catwoman was forgettable. All the hate that Marion got for this scene from Nolan's fanboys and comic book nerds was unproportional and mysoginistic (just like Marvel fans are doing now to that 16-year-old girl who played America Chavez in the last Dr. Strange movie, to the point of sending her death threats... she's just a kid!). It was obviously Nolan's and the editor's fault. Marion has said that she filmed multiple takes for that scene and she doesn't know why they picked that one. It's like they did that shit intentionally just to hurt her. The fact that Nolan has never said a word to defend Marion after all the humiliation she went through because of that scene is quite telling... that same year he was quite fast to defend his psycho fanboys who were sending death threats to critics who didn't like the movie.

by Anonymousreply 48May 24, 2022 4:25 AM

[quote]psycho fanboys who were sending death threats to critics who didn't like the movie.

It is unnerving how seriously some fans take this shit.

by Anonymousreply 49May 24, 2022 4:33 AM

Oh it was bad alright. But its worst sin was that it was boring.

by Anonymousreply 52May 24, 2022 4:43 AM

R52 It's beloved by all, not sure where people get the idea that's it's a widely hated film. It's so bad it's good.

by Anonymousreply 53May 24, 2022 9:38 AM

If Nolan was stuck in a contract or something and he really did throw the movie as some kind of grand artistic statement, the least he could have done is warn the other people involved.

He had an obligation to let his cast and crew decide if they wanted to be involved in that- although it's basically guaranteed they'd all have said no, which is why I'm sure he kept it to himself.

by Anonymousreply 54May 24, 2022 9:41 AM

R48 Can't think of another film that has ever generated the types of psychotic reactions from the public that this one did.

by Anonymousreply 55May 24, 2022 10:18 AM

I can see Nolan being guarded and paranoid after what happened to Heath Ledger, no wonder he wasn't invested in another movie.

by Anonymousreply 56May 25, 2022 1:41 AM

So we're never going to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt take over as Batman? Or "Robin"? I also thought the Robert Pattinson film was a hot mess. I honestly do NOT get all the love for it. Blech.

Nothing tops the first two Burton Batman movies which were heavily inspired by Frank Miller.

by Anonymousreply 59May 26, 2022 3:07 AM

The Burton Batman films look dated and campy now. Of course DLers would think they're superior to the Nolan films.

by Anonymousreply 60May 26, 2022 3:25 AM

The Nolan films are slick empty spectacles that do not withstand scrutiny.

by Anonymousreply 61May 26, 2022 10:11 AM

What was the point of filming them?

by Anonymousreply 62May 26, 2022 10:28 AM

[quote] How did a film with this many technical issues and plot holes make it past the studio?

1. It's a comic book movie. That's all Hollywood studios want to make these days.

2. It's a recycled superhero story. That's the best of the best kind of comic book movie from studios' perspective because the original raked in cash and so they know the new version of the same movie automatically will profit, too. Old reliable.

3. If there's reliable profit regardless of story or acting or direction, then no one cares about quality.

4. Moviegoers don't really care anymore whether a movie is worth watching. They're indoctrinated to automatically buy the latest products from Marvel, Disney and DC. Quality doesn't matter.

by Anonymousreply 63May 26, 2022 10:41 AM

Nobody thinks hard enough to care. Mostly they are happy not to have been shot to death at the theater.

by Anonymousreply 64May 26, 2022 10:56 AM

Yeah about that...

by Anonymousreply 65May 26, 2022 12:16 PM

That shooting wasn't Dark Knight Rises, was it?

by Anonymousreply 66May 26, 2022 12:27 PM

The Burton films are perfect because comic books ARE campy and ridiculous and fun. This need to make men in tights fighting crime some kind of gritty and deep social commentary has ruined the genre.

by Anonymousreply 67May 26, 2022 1:31 PM
