Brandon Woodruff, convicted of killing parents in 2009, fighting for his freedom

Brandon Woodruff had appeared to live the normal life of a 19-year-old, small-town Texas kid - but that changed in 2005, when both of his parents were brutally murdered. After an investigation, Woodruff was charged with capital murder, found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.

Now, Woodruff has served 13 years of his life sentence and said he’s finally ready to share his story in the first interview after his conviction.

“I’m innocent. I did not kill my parents at all,” Woodruff told “20/20” in an interview. “I think that you should look at the totality of the evidence.”

Woodruff grew up in a community outside of Dallas with his mother Norma Woodruff, father Dennis Woodruff and older sister Charla Woodruff.

Watch the full story on "20/20" FRIDAY at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.

This is why we need swift capital punishment. These fuckers sit around for years scheming how to get out. They tie up the courts with appeals. Make victims and loved ones go through hell all over again and why? Because they came up with better excuses and alibis to fit states evidence. Like hitting replay on a game.

No, we don’t want to execute innocent people. “I’m innocent. I did not kill my parents at all.”

by Anonymousreply 2May 20, 2022 4:47 AM

Was he the one who did gay porn?

Not even a little? He didn’t even slightly kill them?

At least he didn’t say “literally.”

I just watched last night's episode on Hulu. The circumstantial case against him was compelling, but how were eight openly homophobic jurors allowed to determine his fate?

His sister seems to have lied about his mom's truck being off-limits to him, but it also appeared that Brandon conveyed to a friend that the truck was permanently his. And why wasn't the hair found clutched in his mother's hand tested? The biggest mystery of all was how the girlfriend and her family ever thought he was straight.

by Anonymousreply 9May 21, 2022 8:20 PM

Shit, there's going to be a murder trial next week for Isi Etute , and if the jury is half as homophobic as his lawyer (who is arguing that the judge should allow them to ignore the law VA passed forbidding use of the gay panic defense, because it was passed after the killing), well....

He could teach Amber Heard something about weepy-face.

[quote]Prosecution made out that Mr. Woodruff murdered his parents to get proceeds of life insurance, that money would be used to fund his "gay lifestyle".

Can I just say that when people talk about systemic biases in institutions like the justice system, like racism and homophobia, it is real and this is exactly what we’re talking about?

The PROSECUTION said he killed his parents to fund his “gay lifestyle”?!!

I’ve been living the “gay lifestyle” for a very long time and it’s really no more expensive than a “straight lifestyle”. Maybe even a little cost-saving because I don’t have kids. But to say “gay lifestyle” means they’re using homophobia to persuade a jury that he was a deviant and wanted money for a “bad” reason. That reason being “gay stuff”.

Fuck this country. It was damned from the inception.

Shocking.

Sure, Brandon. It’s not a lie if you believe it’s true.

Official Trailer for "Texas Justice: Brandon Woodruff"

“Texas Justice: Brandon Woodruff” takes a hard-hitting look at the case of Brandon Woodruff. In October 2005, Texas prosecutors charged Brandon Dale Woodruff — then a 19-year-old freshman at Abilene Christian University — with murdering his parents Dennis and Norma. Unable to make the $1 million bail he sat in Hunt County Jail for more than three years awaiting trial. When the case finally was presented to a Greenville jury in northeast Texas the prosecution essentially posited during the 12-day trial that Brandon Woodruff was living a double life based on lies who ditched classes at ACU for gay adventures in wild Dallas. Faced with flunking out and returning home to a hick town the prosecutors argued that Brandon killed his disappointed parents for their life insurance so he would be free to pursue his gay life with carefree abandon. On March 20, 2009, the jury convicted Brandon Woodruff after only five hours of deliberation. The state earlier had waived the death penalty, and he automatically was sentenced to a life term behind bars. This film raises one question: Is Brandon guilty? Find out for yourself.

If only he were better looking, like #HotTopPop, there would be a surge of DL support petitioning to get him freed.

But sadly, as things stand now, his rabbit face can rot behind bars.

A question I forgot to ask: Was his former friend Mike, who badmouthed him to investigators and told a lie that factored into the case against Brandon, possibly a spurned lover?

The animus between them was chalked up to "Brandon got new friends and became a snob." Which could be the case, but it also presented at least two gay possibilities "20/20" never mentioned. One being an affair gone sour, the second being jealousy that Brandon was starting to live more openly.

The killings occurred in Royse City, which is about 25 miles from Wylie (where the murder depicted in Hulu’s “Candy” took place).

John Quinones is a clown.

Without looking into this, who else could have done it? The sad truth is that your not interesting enough for someone you don't know to murder you. It's almost always someone you know.

The police talking to the sister about Brandon’s secret life sounded like a Seinfeld episode:

“So all this time he was telling everyone he had a girlfriend but he was actually GAY! (Not that there’s anything wrong with that)”.

by Anonymousreply 25May 22, 2022 1:36 AM

He has a "girlfriend".

Then again maybe Brandon Woodruff created ersatz homosexual relationships to satisfy his need for intimacy.
