"I Love New York" - Madonna
I think most of us agree this song is pretty embarrassing, right? But it's solely to do with the lyrics, would you agree? I was just listening to it and the music itself is really fun, up there with the best on the album. I think if she'd written this song in her 20s people would've been a bit more forgiving, but as it is...
Still, the music reminds me of all that darkly melodic club music at that time when I was first going out to clubs. I actually really like this. Just gotta take the words out of it, haha.

I thought the song was her kind of oblique homage to Blondie. The lyrics are deliberately stupid, like Blondie's were. I love the song. One of Madonna's best.

That's a really interesting theory, R1! I like it!
I actually don't dislike this song as much as others seem to, either. Musically it's one of my favourites from the album.

The lyrics are dumb, but sonically perfect, capturing the energy of the city. I like her live Confessions tour performance, where she throws in some Stooges' "I Wanna Be Your Dog" guitar riffs.

A shoutout to her fellow Detroit native, Iggy Pop.
Blondie's lyrics could be dumb, repetitive nonsense. But there was a catchy beauty in them. And the hooks were like sugar. Madonna's song catches that idea and updates it. At least updated it to 2005.

I was listening to this on Apple Music and noticed this song starts and ends with street noise which it doesn't on my album. I don't know why I'd forgotten that the album was released in two versions - a mixed and an unmixed version. To me the mixed version is THE album, so it was interesting hearing this song in a slightly different way.
