Question about the rising gas prices

Can someone super-knowledgeable about the economy tell me if gas prices are rising "legitimately" OR is it price gouging in many cases?

I know this happens when there's international conflict but why do three gas stations catty-corner from each other have three different gas prices?

It's both!

It's just a market. You may go to different stores and they have different prices for food as well. Buying grocery or drug store items at 7-11 is going to be more expensive than at an actual grocery or drug store. You have a choice.

Oil companies' reasons for hiking prices even when supplies are high are about as ludicrous as the old "wrong kind of snow" and "leaves on the line" excuses of British rail.

No, multi-national oil companies periodically need money to donate for political purposes in order to buy elected officials' support on legislation that favors them.

An oil company may be headquartered one country but they sell a product whose price is determined by a global market place. In effect, they are stateless because they will certainly sell their oil where it can generate the most profit for them, in their home country or not.

Texas and Oklahoma, for example, have been bought and paid for over a century.

So, buy an electric car next time.

Or vote GOP, they love the hydrocarbon industry.
