The rumors popped up off and on during Fear Factor but that show's been off the air for 16 years. I lived in Boston, and these statements conflate several things.

Ramrod was a bar licensed by the city, not a gay sex club- and had an enclosed back room about a quarter of the size of the club with a bouncer at both entrances to the room- only on Sunday nights, where there was a strict dress code for leather men, some guys would play around, but never an orgy or full on sex. There were biker, alternative and S&M groups that frequented the club in the public side, and yes, I recall women as well. They had specific meetup nights and I recall straight guys at the bar with women and regular leather purist guys “upset” about it.

This was no different than DV8, Venus De Milo, 1270 which was on the same block as Ramrod a few doors down. There was also Sporter’s and another Cambridge dance club that was straight the rest of the week but mixed on Thursdays. Boston is a huge college town and I met plenty of guys experimenting, but also because of the Puritan nature of Boston and the AIDS crisis, many men kept their sexuality secret or noncommittal to either side. More than a few guys I fell for decided they wanted the wife and kids instead, and there’s NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS unless you’re a jilted lover with an axe to grind.

There were fabulous after hours parties, one we called “The Concrete Palace” and of course the Loft, but Boston is extremely conservative. I once went to a Boston Jacks (jerk off) party that got raided by the police and that pretty much killed the scene. It to was hardly an orgy but a few guys jerking off and everyone clothed.
