Can anyone recommend a good decorator in the LA area?
My brother and I are now both single, and we’re in Act III of our lives. We’re now living together, spending part of the year in Malibu. Our house there was originally decorated for our grandparents by Frances Elkins. But changes were made over the years. Those of you who know design will probably know her style, and we want changes that will respect her aesthetic while simplifying the design to our taste. What’s needed is mainly just editing what furniture we have and doing lots of reupholstering. My brother and I are clueless about this kind of thing.

OP, I have a serious question. When you say Malibu, is it Malibu Beach. Because from what I've seen from pics, Hwy 101 is a two land road. Off to one side is cliff like rock, off to the other is just driveways to little houses that are really close together, then there's the beach. It's nothing terribly grand or fancy.
Am I right about this?

R2 No, PCH (Hwy 101) is generally three lanes wide in each direction. There’s a cliff on one side along much of PCH, but there are also level and sloping areas on the land side, too. PCH is dangerous because of speeding and careless drivers. Head-on collisions are an area specialty. Our house is in an older area called the Colony. Not too far along PCH from Santa Monica and safer-driving parts of LA. And there’s a traffic light at the intersection of PCH and the Colony entrance, making driving home less scary.

Thanks, R8. I've always wondered about how celebs deal with the open area because the beach isn't private. It seems you can swim up to their front yards. Like I said, I've never been there. But if I ever am, I'll stand at that intersection with a sandwich board wh. will read: "LOOKING FOR VAPID DL HOMO/STR8 BROTHER CALL MY BURNER PHONE 213-XXX-XXXX."
