Gay Man Who Went on Road Trip to Start a New Life Found Dead

In early March, 25-year-old Jordan Simeon embarked on a road trip from his home in Fargo, North Dakota, to Louisiana. He was planning on relocating to New Orleans to start a new life.

But Jordan went missing toward the end of his 1,400-mile journey after his vehicle, a green 2014 Kia Soul with a personalized license plate reading ALIEN, broke down in Arkansas. On March 6, his car trouble caused him to stop on I-40, just northwest of Little Rock. He was reported missing the next day after his family lost contact with him.

On Thursday, authorities announced that they’d positively identified Jordan’s body, which was recovered last month from Newton Creek, near the interstate. “Investigators searched the area several times without locating him,” the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office in Arkansas said in a press release, adding that “investigators used cadaver dogs to assist in the search” before finding a body in the creek. The autopsy results are pending.

In a Facebook post, Jordan’s grandmother, Linda Simeon, said his body was identified through DNA testing. “We have no further information at this time other than the body was found about 200 yards from the interstate and it appeared there was no trauma,” Linda wrote, adding, “We appreciate your understanding when we ask for privacy at this time as we process all that has happened. Arrangements will be announced at a later time. Miss you so much Jordan, RIP.”

Lt . Cody Burk of the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office told The Daily Beast that Jordan’s “case is still wide open and we’re working any lead we can.”

“We couldn’t find anything obvious at this point,” Burk added. “We’re hoping the autopsy will let us know how he died.”

How Jordan’s journey took a deadly turn remains unclear. Weeks after he vanished, Linda told NBC News that a friend spoke with him on FaceTime and he indicated he’d called roadside assistance and that a tow truck had arrived.

The friend he was driving to see, Adonia Daigle, who’d also left North Dakota for Louisiana in 2020, told the outlet she sent Simeon money on Venmo, purchased a motel room for him, and advised him to get on a Greyhound bus to New Orleans. She assured Jordan they would then return to Arkansas together to collect his belongings. Simeon, however, apparently never checked into the lodgings that Daigle reserved for him.

Daigle told NBC that she called Arkansas State Police that night to do a welfare check and see if he was in his vehicle. She then called his family to say she’d lost touch with him.

According to Burk, when Jordan called the towing company, he wasn’t familiar with the area and couldn’t provide an exact location of where he was.

Burk said the tow truck driver told police that when he was in the area the next day, he spotted Jordan’s vehicle on the exit ramp, with the keys on top of the car. Linda told NBC, “All of his valuables were in there, as far as, like, an expensive Xbox and a laptop. So you’d think that somebody would have noticed the keys on top?”

Jordan’s sister, Jayla, 27, told the news outlet that her brother was having a hard time and was upset that a friend backed out of becoming his roommate. He wanted to leave North Dakota. “Jordan didn't want to live here forever,” she said. “He actually didn’t, you know, tell me before he left because I think it was an impulsive sort of decision—something he’d been thinking about for a long time, but then when his friend said she could not move in with him any longer, I think that really pushed him to, ‘Well, I’m just going to go then,’ and packed up his whole car.”

Jordan’s loss isn’t the only tragedy to strike the Simeon family. Both Jordan and Jayla’s mother and aunt died from Huntington’s disease, a rare and inherited progressive brain disorder. Jordan had Huntington’s disease, too, and his friend Adonia told NBC she planned to find doctors for him in New Orleans.

Before Jordan was found, his family told reporters that he was particularly vulnerable because of this genetic disorder.

It's almost guaranteed that he was gay bashed and killed.

He wasn't good looking; thus we don't care.

by Anonymousreply 2May 14, 2022 12:42 AM

R1 grandma says in the article that there didn't seem to be any trauma to the body.

by Anonymousreply 3May 14, 2022 12:43 AM

Sad. He looks like he was a good person.

by Anonymousreply 4May 14, 2022 12:44 AM

It's Arkansas.

Gay people should avoid that state at all cost.

by Anonymousreply 5May 14, 2022 12:44 AM

From the looks of things there was trauma to his body, but it was caused by him long before he died. What is that thing hanging from his nose?

by Anonymousreply 6May 14, 2022 12:44 AM

heartbreaking. why is the world so cruel. imagine how his life ended - he didn't deserve this - he seemed like a kind and gentle soul.

by Anonymousreply 7May 14, 2022 12:45 AM

He had Huntington's disease so he was doomed anyway.

by Anonymousreply 8May 14, 2022 12:46 AM

I'm very sad about this but I can't stop myself from commenting that his nose ring looks like a big hanging booger.

by Anonymousreply 9May 14, 2022 12:48 AM

Is that a man?

by Anonymousreply 10May 14, 2022 12:48 AM

As noted already that would show trauma damage. Looking at him drug OD seems more probable.

R11...

[quote] On March 6, his car trouble caused him to stop on I-40, just northwest of Little Rock. He was reported missing the next day after his family lost contact with him.

That's not an OD.

I was also wondering about this...

[quote] his vehicle, a green 2014 Kia Soul with a personalized license plate reading ALIEN

This kind of humor doesn't go over well in the Bible Belt.

You're basically putting a target on your back.

by Anonymousreply 12May 14, 2022 12:53 AM

The prospective roommate backing out of the agreement should have been a temporary setback. He probably wanted to get the hell out of his small town. Sad. One good thing about getting older is that you realize that this, too, shall pass. There can be a Plan B.

by Anonymousreply 13May 14, 2022 12:54 AM

Such a tragedy. Poor guy. I hope whatever happened to him comes to light.

by Anonymousreply 17May 14, 2022 12:59 AM

by Anonymousreply 18May 14, 2022 1:00 AM

That's really scary. So many stories of unexplained deaths in this country. Tons of missing people too.

by Anonymousreply 19May 14, 2022 1:02 AM

by Anonymousreply 22May 14, 2022 1:06 AM

Weird that his friend booked a motel room for him. He couldn't afford to pay for his own motel room on a cross country trip? Also the body was found very close to his abandoned car, but the police couldn't find his body for weeks? The tow truck driver couldn't find him that night and the company never called back and just left him there? He obviously had a smartphone and a good connection if he facetimed a friend, but he could not check his location on Google maps? If someone picked him up or he decided to walk to the next town/exit, why were his keys still on top of his car? Very weird story.

by Anonymousreply 23May 14, 2022 1:08 AM

Maybe he walked to the creek and fell in.Didnt the article say he was in the creek ? Maybe he couldnt swim,or maybe he just broke due to stress and drowned himself. Of course it being Arkansas I dont rule out gay bashing, but seems to me they would have stolen all his belongings if that were the case.

I'm so sorry -- I have a good idea of the area where he died. My Harley broke down on I-40 there in Little Rock while I was riding cross-country and I too had to call a tow truck. The tow truck driver took me and my bike to the Harley shop and then dropped me off at a sketchy Super 8 down the road because, according to him, there were (euphemism for AAs) in the other area hotels so I wouldn't be safe there. I had no idea where I was and no transportation, so I just stayed at the hotel where he dropped me. Cockroaches galore. Appalling.

Creepy people. They fixed my bike and I rode outta state the next day.

May young Jordan RIP.

by Anonymousreply 35May 14, 2022 1:29 AM

R33, Agreed. I'd say LE should investigate the tow tuck driver at least for bad business practices but I don't trust LE in AR either.

Small town AR is the opposite of NYC as far as how they treat different looking outsiders. KKK is still active and there are White Power signs above freeways bridges.

Sorry to say someone should have told him not to drive thru AR looking like he did and assuming he'd have to stop and buy gas.

by Anonymousreply 36May 14, 2022 1:29 AM

My 1st husband had a job that took him all over the country and Id go with him. We once stayed in Little Rock for 6 weeks. I couldnt wait to get the hell out of there. The people were odd,and everyone was so poor. We went to a few gay bars while there and they stared at us like we had 2 heads. Very unnerving.

by Anonymousreply 39May 14, 2022 1:37 AM

Sad. I don't know which is worse in this case, murder or suicide.

This is an older article but it's still interesting.

[quote]The siblings have dealt with a lot of loss in their lives. Jayla and Linda both told Dateline that Jordan had been struggling recently. “He has the Huntington's gene -- for Huntington's disease. And symptoms of Huntington's were starting to show up,” Linda said. Jayla and Jordan’s mother, Starla, died from Huntington’s disease, as did their aunt. Jayla told Dateline that their mother died at the age of 44 – Jayla was only 19, and Jordan would have been 16 or 17 years old. “We didn’t get to know who she was genuinely,” Jayla said, “just who she was with this disease.”

[quote]“It's a brutal disease. It usually starts to hit people in about their 40s,” Linda told Dateline. “It's kind of like a combination of Lou Gehrig’s, Parkinson's, and Alzheimer's all in one. There is no cure, there is no treatment.”

[quote]Jordan’s friend, Adonia, told Dateline that she worked in healthcare and was going to get Jordan set up with some doctors nearby. “Working in healthcare most of my life, I've known about his disease and his disease progress,” Adonia said. “I wanted to help him along his journey.”

The world has always been a very treacherous place. A very horribly cruel place. Heartbreaking. The wonder is that there is any happiness at all.

by Anonymousreply 41May 14, 2022 1:40 AM

R2 - your stupidity needs to stop.

This idea of, “I’m going to make a really callous comment intended for this jaded and callous crowd on DL just to show how hilariously callous my callous self can be …” well, it’s just tired and pathetic. Half the people on this site have forgotten that they were JUST LIKE HIM, so long ago that your dementia won’t allow you to remember it anymore.

by Anonymousreply 42May 14, 2022 1:40 AM

Also from the link at R40, valuables inside the car, keys on the hood (or roof) but the catalytic converter was stolen:

[quote]She told Dateline that when she talked to the tow truck driver, he told her that when he towed Jordan’s car, the keys were sitting on top of the vehicle. “All of his valuables were in there, as far as, like, an expensive Xbox and a laptop,” Linda said. “So you’d think that somebody would have noticed the keys on top?”

[quote]Adonia told Dateline that an irreplaceable keepsake was also found in the car: a wooden box that had belonged to Jordan’s mother.

[quote]Linda said that Jordan’s car was in fairly good condition when they picked it up. They did notice, however, that the catalytic converter had been cut off of the car. “We were able to confirm he had an oil change before he left Fargo, and I talked to the manager there that remembered him and he said, ‘No. I'd have remembered if -- if it was loud like that,’” Linda said.

by Anonymousreply 43May 14, 2022 1:41 AM

^Well, maybe the sketchy tow truck driver stole the catalytic converter and sold it.

by Anonymousreply 44May 14, 2022 1:46 AM

R38 missing limbs? Are you serious? Like from accidents?

R37 there are multiple gay bars there?

by Anonymousreply 45May 14, 2022 1:49 AM

He's just a little corpse near Little Rock

The cops found his body down by the crick.

And the coroner's office that made the call

Depended upon cadaver dogs both big and small

His bloated overripe condition would've made you sick.

by Anonymousreply 46May 14, 2022 1:51 AM

I've done several road trips on the west side of the US (partial Route 66 & San Francisco to Vancouver BC). I still want to do a full cross-country (USA) but I'm concerned about driving through certain areas. I would definitely try to have a full tank of gas before going through certain areas.

by Anonymousreply 47May 14, 2022 1:52 AM

[quote] missing limbs? Are you serious? Like from accidents?

Yes, missing limbs. I asked about that and learned that there is a state program to give employment to those with missing limbs. Little Rock being the state capital and largest city, that was the center of the employment program for those missing limbs.

by Anonymousreply 48May 14, 2022 1:55 AM

[quote] Yes, missing limbs. I asked about that and learned that there is a state program to give employment to those with missing limbs.

There could be a lot of diabetics in Arkansas.

Same for West Virginia and Kentucky.

All of these states have poor access to healthcare and dentistry.

And severe cases of diabetes can lead to amputation of limbs.

So it would make sense.

I moved from New England to LA a long time ago but I was fortunate in that I could FLY out here. My mom came with me. She got me set up. She made sure I didn't take the first cockroach-infected apartment I saw.

This poor kid. I hope it was quick.

by Anonymousreply 56May 14, 2022 2:46 AM

There are tons of gay men who look exactly like this in Little Rock and nearby town Conway(the area he was near). Lesbians, too. He wouldn’t stick out at all. This won’t be gay bashing.

by Anonymousreply 59May 14, 2022 6:43 AM

Not being a troll; this is a serious question. Was he a transman? Face was very feminine. The green hair and nose ring are standard bio-female uniforms in that whole scene, much less so with gay men.

by Anonymousreply 60May 14, 2022 6:51 AM

Ftm gay man?

by Anonymousreply 61May 14, 2022 6:51 AM

What a short sad life, I hope they find out what happened to him.

by Anonymousreply 62May 14, 2022 7:07 AM

Not sure it wasn't gay bashing if done at night on a dark road. Those green haired gay men of Little Rock probably don't want to be caught in that situation either although they may be safe downtown.

What R41 said. And I am old enough to remember when the world was really dangerous for gays and lesbians. Despite our surface acceptance I suspect it still is.

by Anonymousreply 63May 14, 2022 7:13 AM

[quote]Half the people on this site have forgotten that they were JUST LIKE HIM, so long ago that your dementia won’t allow you to remember it anymore.

Not even half of DLers are gay these days, come on now. It's patently obvious by all the trans-obsessed comments on this thread. Those are straight people. Not that we don't have a handful of gays who are in their 60s and older and starting to have cognitive decline and are becoming conservative and angry, like a lot of old Americans do, but I'd say most of the people in this thread don't sympathize with this kid because they aren't gay, they're ladies from Websleuths or anti-trans trolls.

by Anonymousreply 64May 14, 2022 7:22 AM

r60 based on his Twitter posted at r27, he was born a male.

by Anonymousreply 65May 14, 2022 8:30 AM

Depression, despair? My SM is full of post from families of young men who have gone missing, usually near water. Organised searches follow with no news until finally bodies are found. In the water.

by Anonymousreply 66May 14, 2022 8:41 AM

Dirty cops, dirty investigation, dirty tow truck driver. All trash, all in on the grift. Gay people are still hated in certain parts of the country, it's just not talked about anymore because the news is only focused on race or trans these day.

If he was trying to get out of the town, he had a goal, suicidal people are not like that. Keys on the car? Couldn't find the body so close to the car? Stealing the catalytic converter AKA evidence tampering no big deal to the local cops? They were all in on it, each taking a bit because they felt it was no big loss, no one would miss him and no one wild say a thing.

by Anonymousreply 67May 14, 2022 9:13 AM

[quote] Stealing the catalytic converter AKA evidence tampering

Evidence of what? Was the converter stuffed with drugs or diamonds?

In all the crime coverage I've seen I can't think of a single case where a catalytic converter thief has harmed the auto owner. They just kill themselves when the jack slips.

by Anonymousreply 68May 14, 2022 9:47 AM

I feel bad for the guy and his family, he's attempting to start a new life for himself, and something tragic like this happens, all so mysterious and suspicious, unfortunately life is just not fair. He had a nice pleasant face, I'm sure he was a decent guy just trying to make his way in the world in an honest sincere manner, but some numbskull characters don't want to see other people be happy and content, they are the destroyers, they just live and breathe and exist to destroy other people's lives, create chaos and havoc and heartbreak, they value the shit of the earth, the ugly and the crass, because that's all they know, it makes them feel special to be a vile vulgar vicious venomous snake in the grass upon society, and they don't care who they put the poisonous bite on, and corrode lives and families, because everything and everyone to them is disposable, all that matters to them is their insular self-centered fecal infested narrow-minded world view, and if you don't fit into their little box of what's "right" in their twisted mind, they impose their diabolical will on you like you deserve it, even if it's violence or death. He would have loved New Orleans, he'd fit right in, he wouldn't be alone, a vibrant music and Art scene, the right to be your individual self among the masses, he would have been gladly embraced. Nola has its problems too, but people live life freely and with gusto, relish and verve, it's awesome. I know he is in a better place, and at peace, but he was a young man and deserved to live a full complete long happy life with no conditions, and it is a sad tragic loss. RIP buddy...

by Anonymousreply 69May 14, 2022 10:26 AM

I agree that his mysterious death had to do with his being gay.

Stranger from out of state, stranded on an Arkansas highway, green hair, ALIEN on his license plate.

This just reeks of foul play, but it's also no surprise that the Arkansas police are just pretending that it was an "accidental" death.

by Anonymousreply 81May 14, 2022 8:29 PM

He was on an exit ramp on an interstate highway. How come there is no one stating they saw the car sitting there? Did it become invisible?

by Anonymousreply 82May 15, 2022 12:12 AM

R67 I live in this part of the country and all my senses work, so don’t need the news to shape my worldview or tell me what I should be afraid of. Last year I ran out of gas in this same area. I got my gay black ass out of my jeep and walked to a nearby (get this) mobile home sales super center, where the no doubt maga-man sales manager gave me a ride back to my vehicle and gassed it up for me. He seemed happy to be able to help me. Tv has most of you afraid of the world.

by Anonymousreply 83May 15, 2022 12:39 AM

It’s a different would out there r93 than it was even 5 years ago. Sorry but you got lucky af. But you are right it was that way at one time. Most country people were pretty harmless but that’s not the case anymore. They are ginned up and armed to the teeth. The air is so think you can cut it.

by Anonymousreply 84May 15, 2022 12:44 AM

R84 I said last year, 2021. You’re right, it’s a different world on tv, but as far as my experiences tell me, it’s exactly the same. What have you personally experienced that brings you to this conclusion besides media consumption?

by Anonymousreply 85May 15, 2022 12:48 AM

This is not the country where this happened. Interstate? There are plenty of Arkansans who live hours from an interstate highway. This was right outside the capital city.

by Anonymousreply 86May 15, 2022 12:50 AM

And also r84 air thickness is subjective. Just because you walk around paranoid and afraid doesn’t mean that everyone is the same.

Like the one at the Special Olympics.

[quote] I have not experienced anything that makes me think that would or even COULD happen in my world.

I'm sure the people who were murdered in that grocery store today, probably thought the same thing.

Until it happened to them.

ALWAYS be aware of your surroundings.

The converter was missing off his car. I guess he ripped it off and threw it in the river before he killed himself.

[quote] I'd say LE should investigate

Leave astrology out of this!

by Anonymousreply 97May 15, 2022 1:44 AM

Looked like he was in mid-transition.

by Anonymousreply 98May 15, 2022 1:45 AM

[quote] The converter was missing off his car.

Could have been taken at any time. The car runs fine without one.

[quote] The converter was missing off his car.

But was the tranny still working?

by Anonymousreply 100May 15, 2022 1:49 AM

Maybe he went to take a piss, crossing the creek he slipped on a wet rock and hit his head which could have killed him or knocked him unconscious and drowned.

by Anonymousreply 101May 15, 2022 1:49 AM

My first thought, seeing the green hair and nose ring was “suicide”. I’m very sorry for him, and his family, too. May he rest peacefully now.

He may have left town so his family or people he knew wouldn’t have to find him.

by Anonymousreply 102May 15, 2022 1:51 AM

R101 is Barney Fife of the Mayberry Police Department.

Noticing that someone doesn't appear to be the sex they were born as is not anti-trans hate.

As long as humans have been alive, they have been trying to determine each other's age and biological sex. Noticing details is not "hate" except in the minds of the most unhinged histrionic.

Something is terribly, terribly wrong with this situation. Being a New Orleans area resident, I can promise you all it wasn’t because this is an accepting place for gay people. Sure, we have the Decadence festival and the incredibly gay Lakeview/Warehouse district, but I could guarantee you he was probably not going to live anywhere near there. Maybe he has friends in a suburb or perhaps wanted to work on the streets of the French Quarter.

To just have a car, an Xbox and a laptop as your only valuable possessions is pretty say. The guy obviously had very little in the way of hobbies. RIP.

by Anonymousreply 105May 15, 2022 2:09 AM

Theres some kid on a show that I genuinely cant tell if its a girl or a boy. They never say and it has some name gender neutral name like Jordan . No,I cant remember the show or Id tell yall so you could find out for me!

by Anonymousreply 106May 15, 2022 2:11 AM

Fuck you R [2]. You POS.

by Anonymousreply 107May 15, 2022 2:23 AM

R95 well if they thought that then good on them. Better to have lived enjoying the earth and their lives, than having had lived being afraid of everyone and everything around them.

[quote]it has seriously run its course.

All the WWs say otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 109May 15, 2022 2:57 AM

Some people can't cope with disappointments, setbacks, betrayal, new challenges... He doesn't seem to me like the type who could just pack up, move and hit the ground running in a new place.

by Anonymousreply 110May 15, 2022 2:59 AM

There's no arguing with stupid, R108.

And you sound like a complete idiot.

by Anonymousreply 111May 15, 2022 3:07 AM

[quote]Evidence of what? Was the converter stuffed with drugs or diamonds?

They are worth a lot of money, Platinum, Rhodium and Palladium are prime reason for catalytic converter theft. Yeah, the same stuff they make fine jewelry with.

It's disturbing a crime scene Dipshit. If someone is murdered in a house and the cleaning person steals something like a watch, it can affect the investigation even if that person never had anything to do with the murder.

My hobby is organizing my porn collection on my PC, so having a laptop is sufficient for engaging in a hobby.

by Anonymousreply 113May 15, 2022 7:30 AM

I think he died by suicide. The catalytic converter was probably stolen later. Somebody just saw an abandoned car and took the converter.

by Anonymousreply 114May 15, 2022 11:55 AM

^Steal the converter but leave the Xbox, laptop and other valuables in the car? The car keys were on top of the car. It's ridiculous someone would steal the converter but not the rest of his stuff or the car. Sounds more like the towing company removed and sold it.

by Anonymousreply 115May 15, 2022 12:13 PM

Probably murdered by a bunch of good ol' boy Christian rednecks.

by Anonymousreply 116May 15, 2022 12:29 PM

Poor guy.

Those Kia Souls are like fire piñatas.

Nothing involved with them has a good outcome.

by Anonymousreply 117May 15, 2022 12:37 PM

They didn't have that hard core like me. They never learned to roll with the punches. And, believe me, in this world they come left, right and below the belt.

by Anonymousreply 118May 15, 2022 12:44 PM

[quote]Steal the converter but leave the Xbox, laptop

Easy to sell the converter, laptops, cell phones and computers have traceable serial numbers and often too hard to unlock and wipe if it's password protected. No one will buy them. Stealing a converter just takes minutes, car does not need to be on jacks or anything. Look at what the neighborhood was like, it's the perfect low brow crime. Not everyone lives in a city with sophisticated criminals.

by Anonymousreply 119May 17, 2022 6:58 AM

[quote] but I could guarantee you he was probably not going

You don’t “guarantee” that someone “probably” wasn’t going to do something. Assume or guess? Sure. Guarantee? No.

[quote]Gay people, black people, and women are no longer safe in this country.

I'm basically all three of these and wholly disagree with this statement. I don't walk around with a constant fear that the whole world is out to get me and I'm an eternal target/victim. How miserable is it to be this paranoid every single day of your life? I can't imagine.

I swear it's mainly the older generations who've "seen some shit" that are like this. It's some cPTSD type mess. Talk to someone, please.

by Anonymousreply 121May 17, 2022 7:29 AM

Looking at him, you can tell he's always made bad choices. Look at his nosering and his colored hair. Poor judgment. But rip.

by Anonymousreply 122May 17, 2022 8:03 AM

Did they ever determine what happened to this guy?
