Yes. I've seen a few like Peep Show, Coupling, Chewing Gum, The Office, IT Crowd, Being Human, etc. Some of the actors are downright unattractive with bad teeth, bad hair, wrinkles, etc. But I think it works for the dry humor and understatement. That's also why British remakes of American shows like Married... with Children and That 70's Show sucked so badly. The American Office worked because they localized the humor but also the cast still looked average people who would work in an office. Compare US Office to something Spin City which had very attractive cast members like Heather Locklear and Charlie Sheen.

The exceptions seem to be historical costume dramas where they cast pretty people to be royals or upper-class. Or a teen drama like Skins, though the kids on that were far more realistic looking (and actual teenagers) than say on American teen shows where they'll cast 25-year-old Abercrombie models.

Britain superior to the US? I can think of a lot of places superior but Britain isn't one of them. It's ugly, overcrowded,depressing, full of homophobic Muslims and truly unattractive looking people. I'd say the US is quite equal to Britain.
