It seems like 99% of my feed is pix of white gays taking shirtless selfies or speedo pix on the beach.
I see entire feeds of guys who's accounts contain nothing but half naked pix of themselves.
It's unoriginal and underwhelming. And boring!

R1 wants to do some research!

That's completely your own fault for following all those thirst trap accounts. What the fuck did you expect? I don't share your IG experience at all, because I don't fall for those silly "look at me, look at me" tactics. Put a little more thought into the accounts you choose to follow.

most of my IG content is crafting shit so, constantly flooded with all the frau DIY and flippers/upcycler recommendations.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | May 11, 2022 3:57 PM |
IG has gone the way of FB. I rarely see posts from people I know, it’s now mostly ads and random accounts.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | May 11, 2022 3:57 PM |
And Reels of Tik Tok videos.

That's true. My Instagram is full of lovely black and latino men in the same sexy poses as those white guys OP mentioned.

OP's definition of soft pr0n is a throwback to the Victorian era or what people in the convent think of pr0n when they talk about it.

r6 that I would agree with.
Every niche has it's "stars" and hook.
but from the start insta appealed to the would be influencers and socialites.
IG saw that and made it easier for them earn a passive income.
so, the advent of onlyfans did increase the thirst traps. certainly less accusations of virtue signaling and hating the rich - basically anyone that ever went anywhere and did touristy things.
there's a lot of resellers there - which IG saw and made it easier to earn an active income, and there are a few thrid party apps that officially are allowed to integrate with IG for retail.
IG basically became pininterest because pinterest failed to evolve.

^ and we can also blame tumblr after the great purge.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 11, 2022 4:07 PM |
It’s a social media platform so GIGO applies. Want a better feed? Follow better accounts.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 11, 2022 4:08 PM |
OP, people who start threads to post the term "my feed" complaining about "pix" need to shuffle off to whatever corner of the internet deals with ornamental curtain tassels and park on those hemorrhoids for a long while perusing.
Because they are Frauen cunts. As you said about others, "unoriginal, underwhelming and boring."

Anyone whose first 9/9 posts are selfies… I’m out. #narcissisticpsycho
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 11, 2022 4:16 PM |
"now"? It's been that way for a while. People want followers and thirst traps are a reliable way to build followers.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 11, 2022 4:18 PM |
I don't follow a lot of thirst-trap accounts, but Insta became very stale regardless. I follow a lot of wellness- and fitness-oriented accounts and they've all started recycling old posts. One gal who I used to really like is shuffling around the same black bean brownies recipe and avocado shakes from 8 years ago. I used to follow that Vin Sant guy who was popular for a little while but unfollowed him after I realized he was recycling the same 50 posts over and over. I suppose it gets to a point where you really do exhaust the things you can realistically post (or at least that are in line with your "brand"). Even for my own account, it's just pics of the dogs, my BF, the cabin, family outings, etc.. No one is so interesting that they're doing something different everyday.

R15, that's just it though, and I think it's a big flaw in the whole Insta/photo journal platform. It suffers from repetition that induces boredom in its users. There's only so many photos of your ass in a speedo you can post before it gets old. I enjoy the near-nude content just as much as anyone, but I don't need to see Alam Wernick in another pink thong, or the repurposed barrel table the local artisan made.

I looked at a picture of a kangaroo. And within a few hours the search function on my Instagram was filled with kangaroo pictures. Their algorithms are hyperactive.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 11, 2022 7:47 PM |
I don't follow Instahoes anymore. It gets boring after a while. Plus I'm tired of the same poses, filters, thirst traps and dead, cold narcissistic eyes and always hawking some shitty product or diet regime. They are walking brands. And too many have overpriced OnlyFans that offer little sex, nudity or creativity. Many are straight too and like to gaybait. My memo is if I have no chance with these guys in real life then why follow and have them on my social media to list after them?

I think all social media is pretty toxic, but I think Instagram is the least toxic of them since there's less interaction. That said, I'm hating the TikTok-ification of Instagram -- I can't stand all the short video clips. I just want to look at pictures of hot guys from around the world, like Konstantin Kostin from Russia.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | June 15, 2022 3:41 PM |
Hi Konstantin!
by Anonymous | reply 23 | June 15, 2022 4:07 PM |
TikTok is so boring to me. But I don't think it's that toxic. Just a Vine clone which was already a dumbed down YouTube. Combined with the youthful narcissism of MySpace where every teen thinks they're special. It's really a fad and I think people exaggerate it's toxicity. Kids have always been annoying.
YouTube when it started was mostly dumb amateur content less than five minutes. Now YouTube is my favorite social media site because at least it has stuff I care about like podcasts, documentaries, music, old TV and movies, anime, etc. A lot of YouTube creators are informative and hardworking.
Instagram is sterile, boring and depressing. It's addicting because you get bored and keep trying to find ways to alleviate it but it's all shallow and futile. Even when I follow talented people, I don't have a strong desire to stay on too long. The sterile Facebook lite design combined now with the stupid TikTok reels. I use it mainly for messaging. I have friends worldwide.
Twitter and Facebook are the most toxic to me. And I don't think I need to explain. Reddit is like NYC, some good areas and some shit areas.
Tumblr has improved since the weird pervs, SJWs and stans left. Now the artists and eccentric but cool people have it back.
Snapchat I still have mainly to message guys I wanna hook up with..

I get images of: artists, architecture, urban design, historic architecture, historic cities, museums, art history, art and antiques at auction around the world, food history, travel, statistics expressed in maps, history cartography, concerts and releases of a few musical artists I follow.
Instagram is what you make of it. There's a suggested feed, 90% to 95%+ of which is more or less in line with things I follow, and then some oddball stuff and a video of an impossibly lean but muscley guy doing even more impossible acrobatic things with one hand and a lot of balance. If I click on the last, the outlier of my interests, it's like cutting the head off Hydra: another will appear, then 2, 4, 16, 64, etc. It will keep suggesting these things again based on your one lapse into curiosity of the flesh, and for a long time, finally slowing down to a weak trickle.
If you feed the beast, it gives you the thing it thinks you're afraid to ask for. Fat women swimming in an ankle deep plastic wading pool full of fudgesicles. Influencers. Men who haven't left their gyms since before the pandemic. Whores who want tickets to Dubai.
Instagram is the only popular social media platform that I really like becuase it's all about visual images, not fat people falling down, not political posturing, not pics of people's ugly kids (though I'm sure you can find them), not a screed about the goddamn liberals from an uncle who has lived too long, not a cut-and-paste message warning Instagram that the poster retains rights to her images, not the latest video of the "you won't believe the outrageous thing this Karen did at the Whole Foods!" For me it's just great images of buildings or paintings I've never seen but want to, or finding a contemporary artist whose work I didn't know.

OP, we like it that way. Thirst traps are popular bro
by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 27, 2022 8:35 PM |
The desperate search for content to stay relevant is exhausting and hilarious to watch. Like we’ve never seen mundane nobodies have lunch at a mediocre restaurant with tacky ambiance before.

You say it like it's a bad thing!

Andy Warhol got it partially right. In the future, everyone will be a world-famous whore for 15 minutes.

by Anonymous | reply 30 | August 27, 2022 8:52 PM |
Like all porn it's effective for about 5 minutes and then it becomes repetitive, and of all things, boring.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 27, 2022 8:57 PM |
It’s an algorithm dumbass… Like any other social media site. You obviously like what it’s showing you or it wouldn’t have shown it to you. Stop following those people if you don’t want them to appear on your feed
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 27, 2022 8:58 PM |
It's for exhibitionists at its core level. No attention is ever enough.
