WHET Robby Mook?

Hillary's gay campaign manager.

I always sort of felt like he took the fall for her loss more than he should have and that he was also likely in way over his head in that role.

Seems to have fallen off the face of the earth---LinkedIn says he is running something called "House Majority Pac"

He did what all politicos do after an exhausting failed campaign. He sent his resume out, booked a long vacation, licked his wounds, rode some dick, then put his head down and got back to work.

[quote] I always sort of felt like he took the fall for her loss more than he should have

But if it had gone the other way he would've taken all the credit and fame. That's the risk one takes in that role.

by Anonymousreply 2May 11, 2022 2:11 PM

He definitely got a horrible reputation from that campaign, but it seems to have been kinda deserved. He was not just incompetent, but arrogant while being incompetent. Hillary herself stopped talking to him at all halfway through the campaign. There are great details in this book… if you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it.

I always thought he was really cute though.

Clinton Campaign Wasn't Fully Confident About Trump's Connection to Russia

Hillary Clinton's former campaign manager for her 2016 presidential candidacy testified on Friday that campaign officials were not "totally confident" in the legitimacy of data in their possession that allegedly linked former President Donald Trump with a Russian bank.

Robby Mook made the statement during the trial of Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann. The trial for Sussmann began on May 16 following an investigation by special counsel John Durham into the potential criminality in the government investigations of Trump's alleged ties to Russia.

Sussmann is charged with lying to the FBI in 2016 when he allegedly denied that he was working for Clinton's campaign while turning over data to the agency that alleged Trump's organization had a secret back channel of communications with Russia's Alfa Bank. Sussmann has pleaded not guilty.

Mook testified that Clinton approved of her campaign sharing the data with the media, despite them not being "totally confident" in its accuracy, according to Fox News. He also explained the rationale behind giving the data to a reporter would be that they could "run it down" and decide if it was "accurate" before printing it.

Mook, who appeared as a witness of the defense, was asked by government prosecutor Andrew DeFillippis during cross-examination about the campaign's plan to release the data. According to Fox News, Mook said Clinton personally "agreed with the decision" to give the information to a reporter.

The outlet also reported that Mook testified that he informed the data had come from "people that had expertise in this sort of matter."

On Thursday, former FBI general counsel James Baker testified he was "100 percent confident" that Sussmann told him he wasn't giving the information about Trump's alleged ties to Russia on the behalf of Clinton's campaign.

"He said he was not appearing before me on behalf of any particular client, and that he had some information that was of concern relating to an apparently surreptitious communications channel between something called Alfa Bank—which he described as being connected to the Kremlin in Russia—and some part of the Trump Organization in the United States," Baker said, according to CNN.

Baker added that the FBI had checked into the alleged link between Trump and Alfa, but had decided within weeks that "there was nothing there."

Durham was appointed special counsel in October 2020 by then-Attorney General William Barr. He was instructed to "investigate whether any federal official, employee, or any other person or entity violated the law in connection with the intelligence, counter-intelligence, or law-enforcement activities directed at the 2016 presidential campaigns, individuals associated with those campaigns, and individuals associated with the administration of President Donald J. Trump," according to Barr's order.

Newsweek reached out to Mook and Clinton for comment.

by Anonymousreply 71May 22, 2022 12:46 PM

I know this might be foolish to point out but the 2016 election really highlights the problem with the electoral college. All the states Trump did turn red: Michigan, Pennsylvania, were won by insanely small margins. Hillary basically lost because of white people living in the exurbs of the northeast and rust belt. It's fkin tyrannical. It's 2022 for Christ sake. Every citizen should get one vote.

by Anonymousreply 72May 22, 2022 3:09 PM

R72 So at the Superbowl, the team that wins by an insanely small margin should actually be the losers and the real losers named the winners?

by Anonymousreply 73May 22, 2022 3:15 PM

R72 And you have some GQP lunatics saying that rural voters should get 2x votes or some such horseshit, like this kook Lopez running for Governor in Colorado.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 74May 22, 2022 3:18 PM

R73 You know what I mean. I'm not delegitamizing Trumps victory. It's just sort of incredulous when you break it down and realize that is how our US president is chosen. I don't think the founding fathers ever had in mind a scenario like that presenting itself. And even if they did the founding fathers may have never imagined a world in which women, blacks, and poor white men were voting, so their original intent has to be placed in perspective.

by Anonymousreply 75May 22, 2022 3:44 PM

[quote]Hillary basically lost because of white people living in the exurbs of the northeast and rust belt. It's fkin tyrannical.

Regardless of whether the system should be changed…. Hillary knew the rules of the game in 2016, and she chose to ignore those suburban northeast and rust belt voters. Trump didn’t.

by Anonymousreply 76May 22, 2022 3:52 PM

R76, but that's the thing she didn't. And was she suppose to cater to those voters at the expense of alienating minority voters which she also needed. What really cause Hill the election was not low black voter turnout. True it was lower than 2012, but there was an influx of white voters in the rust belt. People who traditionally don't vote.

by Anonymousreply 77May 22, 2022 4:06 PM

How come nobody know who his boyfriend is?

by Anonymousreply 78May 22, 2022 4:08 PM

What really caused Hillary to lose the election is she called half the country "deplorable". Attack your opponent. Not the voters. Stupid cunt. And even worse she did it at Cher's fundraiser where the rich all laughed and applauded.

adjective: deplorable deserving strong condemnation. "the deplorable conditions in which most prisoners are held" Similar: disgraceful shameful dishonorable disreputable discreditable unworthy shabby inexcusable unpardonable unforgivable reprehensible despicable abominable base sordid vile hateful contemptible loathsome offensive execrable heinous odious revolting unspeakable beyond contempt beyond the pale egregious flagitious Opposite: admirable shockingly bad in quality. "her spelling was deplorable" Similar: lamentable regrettable grievous unfortunate wretched dire

by Anonymousreply 79May 22, 2022 4:11 PM

What also hurt her was her insistence that we MUST take in hundreds of thousands of Muslims and Syrian refugees. People saw what was happening in France and Europe and weren’t having it.

by Anonymousreply 80May 22, 2022 4:15 PM

Hillary also did not campaign in states like Michigan, Wisconsin and others. These were states Obama won. I voted for her because Trump was a fucking joke, but her arrogance is off the charts.

by Anonymousreply 81May 22, 2022 4:15 PM

Hillary gives off a strong vibe that she thinks she is smarter than everyone else in the room and does not suffer fools gladly.

That makes her a top-notch DLer, but a horrible candidate as people pick up on that.

Bill is also a very smart guy, but he never gives off those superiority vibes

by Anonymousreply 82May 22, 2022 4:18 PM

R82 She also ignored anything Bill said. Then again what would he know? He'd only actually won the presidency twice. Hillary always knows better. Or so she thinks. And her cult still runs around telling us how smart she is. She lost to Obama (a total unknown) and Trump (a reality show star)!

by Anonymousreply 83May 22, 2022 4:23 PM

Did he come up with “deplorables”? If so it backfired, as much as it is enjoyed here.

by Anonymousreply 84May 22, 2022 4:26 PM

Also Tim Kaine. Horrible choice fir VP. I'm sure on paper he hit all the margins but he was totally void of any charisma. Very nice guy, not calling him effeminate but you know he just read as sort of hen pecked Bobby. The visuals of him as her runner up, totally played into the narrative of Hill as this shrewd feminist whose agenda was to overpower white men.

R116 Everyone except for Hillary obviously considering he threw her under the bus, set her on fire and took a shit on her.

by Anonymousreply 118May 23, 2022 2:41 AM

I half-remember reading that Bill Clinton was furious with Mook toward the end of the campaign and they got into a huge shouting match.

by Anonymousreply 119May 23, 2022 3:13 AM

Bill Clinton saw what was happening after Brexit and kept trying to warn them the same thing was gonna happen here, and the campaign’s response was to roll their eyes at the out of touch old dude. You know, the dude who won two electoral college landslides. Him.

by Anonymousreply 120May 23, 2022 3:14 AM

I don't know if it was Mook but I did read Bill Clinton was furious that the campaign was ignoring what became known as the rust belt and trying to flip AZ in some cocky move.

Bill must say I told you so whenever he sees Hillary which I doubt is often.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

That article is gold r122

by Anonymousreply 123May 23, 2022 3:36 AM

It’s so ironic, Bill had the talent and star power, yet because of the whole me too thing brewing, they had to be careful about using him. Poor Hillary, I feel sorry for her in that regard at least.

by Anonymousreply 124May 23, 2022 4:22 AM

He was just what the democratic party wanted, which means he was not good enough for what he should have been doing

by Anonymousreply 125May 23, 2022 7:33 AM

R122 Yep. Hillary is just like Jussie (with his legal teams which we went through like Kleenex) and Meghan (with, well, everyone). They ALWAYS know better and do the exact opposite of what they're told to do. But they don't know better and, when they fail, they blame everyone whose advice they'd fought against or outright ignored for months.

by Anonymousreply 126May 23, 2022 11:28 AM

Looking at the "Why aren't I 50 points ahead" video five years later, it's so clear that the subtext was "why won't these simpletons acknowledge my superiority!!! How DARE they vote for someone else!!! Off with their heads!!!"

That vibe of "I am the smartest person in the room and I am clearly superior to everyone else" is why people who otherwise have no issue voting for female Democrats hate her.

And raises the question of why, given that she is clearly awful at the campaigning part of politics, did she decide to go ahead and run anyway? Sort of like saying "I can't carry a tune but I want to be a singer anyway!"

by Anonymousreply 127May 23, 2022 11:54 AM

It is a good question, R127. And one that nobody on DL will answer. The same DL that insists that she only lost because of 30 years of rightwing attacks on her somehow think, with that in mind, she was the perfect person to run for president.

Hillary had been divisive for 30 years. Even to Democrats.

Trump was divisive too but at least he was new to politics and he had a sense of humor and would make jokes and somehow a lot of people decided this billionaire "tells it like it is" and "says what we're not allowed to say" and even here on DL people got a kick out of his slams against Harry and Meghan etc.

Hillary however is a humorless scold (she reminded most people of their hated mother-in-law) with a shrew's voice and couldn't think on her feet. That's why during the debate when he responded to her that she'd be in prison (which got a lot of laughs and applause), she couldn't come up with a comeback (funny or not). She just slinked back to her chair.

She was a boring low-energy candidate just like Jeb Bush.

by Anonymousreply 128May 23, 2022 12:15 PM

I think the answer to why she ran is very much tied up in the complexities of her relationship to her husband and residual anger she had at him for always cheating on her.

In many ways running for president was Hillary telling Bill that his gift for instantly putting people at ease and making them like him wasn't all that, that she was even smarter than him and would be a much better president and that the whole getting people to like and support you thing he excelled at was unimportant because people would clearly see how competent and intelligent she was.

Had she not been married to Bill, I suspect she would have been quite content to be a senior BigLaw partner, one the young associates all feared and traded notes on how to handle.

by Anonymousreply 132May 23, 2022 3:55 PM

Reading this thread reminds me what a fantastic president Bill Clinton was. It's sad that Hillary has now ruined his reputation.

by Anonymousreply 133May 23, 2022 7:09 PM

Seeing those pictures of the younger Clintons made me nostalgic. I remember when Hilary tried to improve healthcare and she was really brutalized for it. She may be an arrogant person, but I wonder how much of all of the uncalled for abuse by republicans caused her to change?

by Anonymousreply 134May 23, 2022 7:23 PM

R134 She had been a sitting member of the board of directors for Wal-Mart for a decade before she did that. She was never innocent.

Walmart was a decent company back in the 90s, R135. I used to live in Arkansas in that era and it was a good store with decent products and fair prices. This was before it ran all other stores out of business and became a corporate monster that pays slave wages and sells cheap shit from China.

Those were different times, just like when people now want to rake Hillary over the coals for voting for the Iraq "war" (invasion, actually). It was a different time then too, post 9/11. I'm not excusing the behavior, but you have to look at the context of the times.

Computer scientists say they have strong evidence that the presidential election was rigged against Hillary Clinton in three key states.

Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania were potentially manipulated, according to a group of prominent computer scientists and lawyers who have urged the Democratic nominee to challenge the results.

The activists, who include voting rights lawyer John Bonifaz and J Alex Halderman, director of the University of Michigan's centre for computer security and society, believe their evidence shows that the results in these three battleground states - which lost Mrs Clinton the election on November 8 - might have been hacked.

As reported by 'New York Magazine', the group is not speaking on the record but is privately lobbying Mrs Clinton's team to challenge the election results.

In Wisconsin, the Democratic candidate received 7pc less votes in counties that depended on electronic-voting machines compared with counties that used optical scanners and paper ballots, and consequently Mrs Clinton may have lost up to 30,000 votes. She lost Wisconsin by a total of 27,000 votes.

The group has already held a call with Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta and campaign general counsel Marc Elias to argue that while it has not found conclusive evidence of a hack, the pattern in its results merits an independent review.

Mrs Clinton has made no indication that she will challenge the results and the White House is intent on a smooth transition of power.

The deadline to file for a vote recount is between tomorrow and next Wednesday for the three states.

The vote in Michigan has still not been called as the results on November 8 were very close - and the 16 electoral votes in the state have not been apportioned to either Mr Trump or Mrs Clinton.

Mr Trump has 290 electoral college votes, compared with Mrs Clinton's 232 votes. Michigan is likely to be given to the Republican side.

R126 that’s why I’ve never understood why we’re always hearing about how competent Hillary is. In addition to being a corrupt bitch that more than half the country hates, she spills the soup all over herself constantly. It’s comic how completely inept she is and always has been.

by Anonymousreply 139May 23, 2022 9:20 PM

[quote] Looking at the "Why aren't I 50 points ahead" video five years later, it's so clear that the subtext was "why won't these simpletons acknowledge my superiority!!!

It was clear THEN too for those honest enough to watch and listen

by Anonymousreply 140May 23, 2022 9:33 PM

2016: Black turnout was down with the exception of older black women. Bitter Bernie Bros stayed home or voted for Trump, for a large part. Hillary's team wasted much time and resources on the Latino populace. A big portion of them are not reliable voters or committed Republicans. Little effort was made to connect to rural whites, even to make a dent.

by Anonymousreply 141May 24, 2022 1:51 PM

"Did Mook agree to testify in exchange for clemency?"

No, he agreed to testify in exchange for clemenceau.

And who can blame him as this invokes time travel and a hot daddy rocking a silver mustache.

The problem is she should have NEVER been a politician. She is just not a politician. A lawyer, an academic, a CEO - but a likable, vote getting candidate for Middle America she was not. I wanted her and voted for her and worked for her - but she just didn’t have the Bill factor. The absurd manipulation of the electoral college is to blame ultimately. But she really had no right to be a politician - except that she was the wife of a brilliant politician.

by Anonymousreply 143May 24, 2022 2:20 PM

She’s best suited as a behind the scenes policy wonk. She should not have been the face of a campaign, as she has zero charisma and comes across as arrogant on the campaign trail.

by Anonymousreply 144May 24, 2022 2:43 PM

Anything to avoid saying that Hill is an elitist cunt and fools no one.

It is not Middle America or the working class's fault that Hillary Clinton is a cold-blooded patrician asshole.

by Anonymousreply 145May 24, 2022 2:45 PM

She's not even a patrician R145

She's a very middle class girl from suburban Chicago who desperately wanted the trappings of power. Thus her "I'll do anything for a dollar" attitude.

by Anonymousreply 146May 24, 2022 2:47 PM

Maybe he could get a job with Sarah Palin next time. She is running again.

by Anonymousreply 147May 24, 2022 2:50 PM

Hillary would have made an excellent federal judge and do well in most any cabinet post. She has the skills and experiences to be a fine President.

Her glaring weakness was campaigning. She just didn’t “connect” with so many voters. CC Her personality and introverted nature was a big factor. She needed to work around that better. Her choices of campaign strategists were the wrong choices both times. It lacked toughness, aggressiveness, and people who knew how to motivate multiple demographics to win.

I was a big Hillary supporter. She would have won though if Comey hadn’t injected his antics, and the Obama administration and media made an earlier and deeper effort to expose Russian meddling.

by Anonymousreply 151September 3, 2022 2:54 PM

R151 or if she’d somehow been able to figure out how to partake the grueling journey from JFK to DTW.

by Anonymousreply 152September 3, 2022 4:55 PM

Omg. Hillary had to find out the hard way, that the average midwesterner doesn’t give a shit about celebrities and what they think. She thought she bought Miami Hispanics by giving them a free JLo concert on election eve. 150 million bucks wasted on that nonsense. She sat back and let everyone else do all the work. Namely, the Obamas.

She took the month of August off from campaigning, while again, Bernie and Trump were holding multiple rallies a day. She put little work in, and got the return she deserved. I loathe Trump with every fiber of my being, but he was out in front of voters. Hillary wasn’t.
