The Apple iPod is Dead to Me

[QUOTE]Apple is discontinuing the iPod touch, the last version of the portable music player it still sells. Introduced 21 years ago in October 2001, it was a revolutionary device that put thousands of songs in the pockets of fans.

Will it be replace by another apple device or can a $10K iphone now do it all???

by Anonymousreply 1May 10, 2022 7:21 PM

what is gonna replace it?

by Anonymousreply 2May 10, 2022 7:24 PM

I loved my iPod Touch. It did almost everything an iPhone does, except without any phone in it. But you could also get a Google phone number or some other VOIP service, and essentially you almost have an iPhone. Unfortunately mine was stolen out of my car.

by Anonymousreply 3May 10, 2022 7:33 PM

Oh, no. What will we inherit?

by Anonymousreply 4May 10, 2022 7:36 PM

What's on the ipod's ipod?

by Anonymousreply 5May 10, 2022 7:37 PM

The iPod Touch looked like and was about the same size of a regular iPhone. The whole point of it was to be a small compact device for your music. I still have a Nano, which I love. I have a huge library that takes up too much memory on my regular phone, plus it never seems to sync up songs you originally uploaded from your CD collection. Apple always fucks things up.

by Anonymousreply 6May 10, 2022 7:46 PM

I also had a Nano. It's probably dead from sitting unused for so long.

by Anonymousreply 7May 10, 2022 8:06 PM

so are they coming out with something new?

by Anonymousreply 8May 10, 2022 8:35 PM

R8, the new thing is you don't own the music you purchase, you rent it.

by Anonymousreply 9May 10, 2022 8:36 PM

so maybe use my mini ipod for music?

by Anonymousreply 10May 10, 2022 8:38 PM

Use your Apple Watch, r10. Works great with some AirPod Pros for a completely wireless music experience, the kind you could only dream about when the iPod first debuted.

by Anonymousreply 11May 10, 2022 11:17 PM

You never "own" someone else's music. Whoever created it owns all the rights to it, unless they sold or gave the rights to someone else. They determine what happens to it and how it is used, until the day many years later when the copyright expires and it becomes public domain.

If you "buy" a copy of some music, such as a recording, you don't own the rights to it. The copyright owner still owns the rights to it. All you have done was bought a license for your personal listening of it.

You don't have the right to make another copy, to sell a copy, or to use it in a public performance. Those rights are still owned by the copyright holder. This has always been true.

by Anonymousreply 12May 11, 2022 5:16 AM

Yeah but you didn’t have to worry about the record company taking your CDs or tapes away, R12. That copy was essentially your property. Now you don’t even own a copy.

by Anonymousreply 13May 11, 2022 2:36 PM

I still use my iPod classic, but I had to get a reconditioned one because the memory wasn't big enough.

[quote] Now you don’t even own a copy.

You can still buy a copy if you want one, gramps.

by Anonymousreply 16May 11, 2022 4:56 PM

[quote] what is gonna replace it?

The iPhone.

by Anonymousreply 17May 11, 2022 4:56 PM

the 256gb version in all colors has already sold out on apple website and bestbuy.

But nobody’s buying them R16, and I’m probably younger than you, you smug motherfucker.

I refuse to listen to music on my phone or tablet. I have a sony walkman. it's maybe 5 years old but flawless.

by Anonymousreply 20May 11, 2022 9:36 PM

I still have my Close 'n Play. Is it worth thousands, too?

R20, I have a sony walkman too.

I also have 2 ipod touch. One of them is really old and the battery runs out in like 20 min.

by Anonymousreply 22May 11, 2022 10:02 PM

I have a red enamel Sony Walkman. It is a model what can collapse on itself smaller than a cassette tape. You have to extend the body first to use it. Very tiny, amazing machine. My dad brought it back from a business trip to Japan and it was a kind of luxurious gift for him to give to me. I think these things were quite expensive back then. Not junk.

by Anonymousreply 23May 12, 2022 8:15 AM

My father played music with a cactus needle touching a revolving black disc.

He told me the disc was called "Shellac" which is something made from female Indian Lac Beetles.

by Anonymousreply 24May 12, 2022 8:32 AM

can you still store stuff from apple stores on it?

by Anonymousreply 25May 12, 2022 8:40 AM

So I tried reviving my old “dial” iPod only to discover that although all my purchased music transfers easily into it- you cannot download any Apple Music Subscription media. Only Apple devices that are connected directly to the internet like the very latest version of iPod, IPhone and IPad can download this kind of media. There’s no easy workaround- aside from purchasing hundreds of dollars of music.

Also I use Spotify and YouTube Music interchangeably, so an old IPod is a no go.

by Anonymousreply 26May 12, 2022 9:23 AM

This makes me feel very old because I remember when the iPod was the *thing* to have & I really wanted one but they were initially too expensive; I still own an iPod Nano that will still works, but doesn't hold much of a charge and it makes me sad to feel like it's now the equivalent of owning a Victrola
